[K H A L A ] (I apologize in advance, I needed to try and address as many people as I could! I won't write a textbook again, promise!)
The dark dappled mare was about to turn to the herd to address her herd mate’s words of welcome when Kanu spoke. “Khala will be our new leader-“ and her mind went numb. What? Leader? To say that was not what she wanted would be a lie, but this was not at all how she expected it to happen. . . She’d just come back. . . Wait, and what about Cael? Cael. The mare searched the crowd. Where was she? Where was the firey, spirited filly that had once been her closest friend? Gone. The rest of Kanu’s words registered. Given up on her? The Bachelors. . . had they? Did Cain? What had happened!?
“K-Kanu, I- I was not expecting that so promptly,” Khala admitted, turning to her herd. “I would have it no other way, but if this causes any of you dissent, speak now or forever hold your peace. Give me a chance once more to prove myself to you.” Her golden gaze wandered over those close to her, Ryder, Kanu’s bowed neck. At Moirragh’s question, she turned to face the dark mare, ears perking in her direction. “No, I have no plans, as this was a rather unexpected turn of events. I rather pictured this turning out differently. I would rather the herd decide than I be given the sole task. After all that is our way, the vote will determine where our herd is destined to move.” The chimera nodded in agreement with Kanu’s words to follow. They would vote, and he had presented the options.
Khala anticipated objections and opinions, but the first she was specifically addressed with was not one she was in favor of at all. The mare scoffed as she took a step towards Prime, the appaloosa High Guard, meeting her gaze straight. “Olde? Better?” she snorted at the blasphemy. “There is no herd greater than ours, and none freer, but do you really think that the Bachelors would even welcome us, sweet? Why have they taken our mares? A-And Cael,” A fire burn in the pit of her stomach at the realization that they had indeed taken her dear friend captive. “But would we be abandoning them?” Her piercing, warm eyes dove into Prime’s face, searching for her reactions. “Prime, I see your intent, and I see your heart behind it, but the Bachelors won’t want us. Haven’t they made that clear enough? If we remain here, or even join them, who is to say the conditions change? So, Cain has taken them as bargaining pieces, has he? Well let him. And I do not say this to be spiteful or to say that they deserve it, oh no, my friends. I will lead the charge against these brutes and their disgusting ways. Do you honestly think that he would risk loosing them by keeping us close? Or even harm them at the cost of their deaths? The only way they can be used against us is if we wanted them too. And think, for a moment. If you were in their position, would you want your herd to risk their safety for you? And, if we were to join the Bachelors, would we not, in the end, win? All of Chevalin would be under their rule. Now, I don’t know about you, Prime, but that is not ideal. Deception is easily seen through, especially when their leader is the King of Deception. No, this would not be wise.”
When an unfamiliar mare neighed close to her, Khala spun, pinning her own ears and turning her hardened gaze on the painted horse instead. What on earth. . . “Do you have an opinion to share?” she asked briskly. “Speak it now, or remain silent.” When the dark mare from earlier chose to stand beside Prime, Khala shook her head slowly. “There are too many holes. Too many risks. With a herd as large as ours, it will be hard to keep this a secret, you see?” She sighed softly. “Even if we were to try, they would not return our herdmates to us. They will be under guard day and night, especially if we are near. The moment they sensed any traitorous intent, how long do you think it would take for them to turn on us? One second? Maybe two if we’re lucky?” And then the herd broke into yelling. There were voiced from all around, horses yelling back at Prime and the others who shared her side. Those who opposed stood together, yelling, screaming. The noise was nearly too much for the long estranged mare to handle. Until another voice broke through them all. “SILENCE.” It bellowed.
A softer voice then spoke, the dark mare from earlier. She stood in the center, addressing her herdmembers with thoughtful rapport. As she continued, Khala found herself nodding with her words. Once she stopped and stepped back, Khala stepped forwards, pivoting on a hoof to look them all evenly as she had before. “No, we cannot abandon them, and we will not.” The chestnut slammed a hoof into the dirt decisively. “But what she says is true. We cannot conceivably deceive the Bachelors without actually aiding their cause. I myself could not stand here and say that I could lead you into such a dangerous situation, and I could not pretend to try and help them. . .” Her head shook slowly back and forth. “And, Moirragh,” she turned with a smile, “well spoken, but do not look for forgiveness with Olde. Afterall, we do not need it. If we join their side, perhaps we shall finally be seen as equals, and no longer thought of as weak unjustly. This herd has fought harder, longer and more fervently for survival than any of them dare to dream of thinking.”

Prime || High Guard She was not surprised by the objections to her notion, more so by the presence of a unexpected support. As Moirragh got to her side Prime couldn't help but to feel slightly touched that she would side with her. And her words made her amber eyes spark, Oh they shall. But not at the cost a offensive attack would claim. Something other equines, Delvin and Ryder was quick to point out before she got the chance to develop her plot further. Her ears would turn towards Effie, a mother concerned for her foal. Her questions left the high guard somewhat puzzled.. The scars marked on her own muzzle came from protecting, Leif against grass beast.
"Effie!" She raised her voice as the mare urged for this important decision, to be rushed at a time when there were still so many questions in the herd. Prime took a few steps closer to mare, looking more hurt than anything as she believed that she might yet again have failed to be the guard she aspired to be for this herd. "I understand your desire to keep your kin safe. But I fail to see how you can trust the Olde to be such a safe bet? I admit knowing little other than, the facts stating that they were the once to send of the first exile to the south for not agreeing with their worshiping. My own father fled from them because of their ways. I agree we need to gain our built but these lands are flourishing and could provide the strength just as well to build it and with the advantage of studying our 'comrades' closer. AS for the matter of protection. If we side with them we do not need to live any closer to them than necessary and keep cautions of them. Need proof of my word, when I say that I have no intention of letting anyone lay hoof on your son? I gained these and I shall gain more, as long as I can still fight. Your son will be under my protection. Yes the day will come when I will fall, but by then he will be old enough to fend for himself." At this she looked down towards the colt, she knew his dreams of becoming a guard and with time she had no doubt that he would be a grand one, just as his mother. Turning her attention towards Delvin and Ryder, they seemed to misunderstand her somewhere along the way. Or perhaps they saw something she didn't want to? As Moirragh spoke out the high guard would turn her head to her with a held back snort, forgiveness from Olde? Why? Khala's words caused her to bite her tongue not to snap at the mare, she might be in favor from some but it would take more than Kanu's word in order to gain her trust. Could she not get the chance to finish her plot before everyone dismissed it?
"...no. My intent was not to take it that far as to end up leading them to victory. Deception only works so far and my hopes was to keep it until the point of the battle. To use it to trap them between Olde and us and eliminate them. Not even the 'King of deception' is immortal, lead the charge but allow me to clear the way for you. I would lie to claim that I see you as my leader yet for the loss of Cael is still to fresh. I do not know you as some but I see the fire burning in your Eyes as it did in hers and the fact that you are by this herd my sister, I shall grant you my being as long as it serves for the benefit of this herd and that you will give me the opportunity to prove my own worth in it." She meet the flaming eyes with her own burning with detmermination. Allowing the others to settle down before she spoke once more. She wasn't going to step down until she had made her intentions clear for them all. Allies only reach to a certain point it is not to be mistaken for safety.
"I'm not saying we should go about it their way and ram into the herd. That's foolish, a sure way of losing good equines. No, what I speak of would take planning and wits to see thru. Difficult, no doubt. Impossible? No. Cain have gotten too much say in matters affecting our herd, if this deal was to go down at all it would be on our conditions. If not.. I will look forward to see his corpse on the field. I don't trust Olde to give a shit what happens to us. They might allow us to stay without further loses, but I hardly believe than they will choose to protect.. " She couldn't say mares, they were not defenseless. She was not defenseless! " The old or our young, no matter what side we end up on. In the end the truth is that we will fend for ourselves. There is no deal that will ensure otherwise, this I state upon that if the choice came down and I had to save either an Olde or Bachelor, my heart will always pick an Exile to live and die for." She looked around the gathering of equines and she felt the bangle on her leg heavy her down with the weight in her words, as well as raising the echoing of her heart beats. Landing on the roan that held it more than any of the others, her amber eyes softened and for the first time she didn't attempt to hide the truth from them. She would indeed life and die for this herd but her heart would belong to him, Rowan.

Rae
The seal bay mare bared her teeth at Khala. She felt no need to show respect to the returned mare. This was outrageous! How could Kanu just address her leader, so quickly? She faced the mare, ready to snap. When Khala spoke to her she tried to have a response and follow through on the request to "speak her opinion now or remain silent."
She opened her mouth, ready to shout her opinion. About how they needed to get Cael back before anyone was addressed leader or any herds joined others. She parted her dry lips to say something, anything. All that came out was an awful noise. It was the noise a door made when it scraped against a wood floor and its hinges squeaked because it hadn't been used and abandoned. She did this several times before tears streamed down her cheeks with frustration. She half reared, pawing the dusty ground before pinning her ears and going silent again, only to have everyone else growing loud.

Dang.
Something was up. It’d taken the mare some time to notice, having been so focused on the area surrounding the herd for possible danger that she had zoned out to the quiet chatter of the horses she protected that it took a roar from Rae for her to at last snap out of her vigil. Instantly, Storm swung around, eyes wide, nostrils flaring to see the herd gathered around a center point that was invisible to her through the crowd. Fearing the worst, the black guard charged forward in a lumbering, uneven stride, though it was gradually improving from the state she had been in some time ago when they had first arrived; she barrelled fearlessly through the outer layer, though soon noticed the lack of fear in the air, to her confusion, and slowed to a quick trot. Prime was going on about something or other in an obnoxiously self-righteous tone, but she ignored it as she stared at the fiery chestnut figure before her. It couldn’t be… she was supposed to be dead. “Khala?” Stormcry croaked out, her voice shocked and the most vulnerable it had been in many months, a childish expression of disbelief on her roman-nosed face. Although a little underweight, she looked mostly well, her eyes sharp and determined as she spoke to each of the herd members, Storm’s ear only catching short snippets. Her breath snagged harshly in her throat, loud and with obvious sickness. Khala was to be leader? The thought stunned her for a moment, though she knew the previously High Guard had the physical capabilities, and most likely the mental ones too. But did she still know each of the herd members, their strengths and weaknesses, their fears and ambitions? What if- Stop. She commanded her flurried brain, sucking in a deep breath to slow the adrenaline pulsing in her veins. Her comrade was home safe, and for now at least, that was what mattered. A few minutes of celebration would not change the herd’s fate.
Stormcry stepped forward, looking at horses as she went with a gaze that suggested she believed they should be quiet and silence their bickering, at least for now, until she was standing almost nose-to-nose with the other mare. “I’ve missed you, Khala.” She said softly, a smile pulling at her weary face. “And I welcome you home; though I wish it could have been under better circumstances. I grieve with you for Locke and Donna.” A moment more she remained, a supportive figure, before she turned to stand beside her to face the herd and swept over them with a pale, moon-hued gaze with a slight authority that was not quite that of a guard but more so of a mother who had been stretched far and thin that seemed to silently command calm. “How can we fight so quickly? Our friend, our family, has returned despite us thinking her dead for a year; and your first thought is to bicker over leadership and decisions like a bunch of hens over the last seed, despite your bellies already being full, instead of celebrating the life, her life, that we have been given?” Her voice rang out, cracking in places with the threat of a cough, and she knew not if they would even listen, but they were acting like scared, selfish foals who knew no better. "That is not who we are. That is not who the Exiles are."

[ Ryder ]
Ryder listened with a dissatisfied expression. How could they want to side with those brutes? He knew they had captives, but there was no way the Bachelors would let them near their horses in fear that the Exiles would try something. Cael and the other prisoners would have guards surrounding them at all times, and he was sure that Cain would have his best warriors watching over them. As Khala spoke, Ryder nodded. He agreed with her wholeheartedly. Their new leader appeared to be quite cunning and definitely fit for the position they needed for her to take, and it seemed that she was a natural at it. The sooty mare spoke to Prime with an authoritative tone, making sure she understood her point. "I agreed. There are too many horses here to successfully make the Bachelors believe any deceitful ideas that we have. They'll see right through us. Not everyone will be able to keep our secret safe if we decided to go that route. We are Exiles! We stand strong no matter what life throws our way, but right now I believe we need to seek out Olde. If we fight by their side and win, we'll win back out lost friends," he said, loud enough for everyone to hear him. His eyes shifted around at the horses around him. Rae seemed upset and distraught, and he couldn't imagine how hard this must be for her since she couldn't speak. It must feel like being trapped inside your own mind. "Prime, I know you are thinking about what is best for the herd as a whole, but if we do what you wish, the Bachelors will crush us in an instant if they even see a hint of our betrayal. You saw for yourself how cunning Cain is. He'll be able to spot our plan from a mile away." Ryder tried his hardest to make sure his voice remained even and not angered as he spoke to his good friend.
As Stormcry's voice rung out over everyone else, Ryder's ears flicked in her direction. It was true that they were acting ridiculous, but it was the crack in the dark mare's voice that made Ryder take a step toward her. He knew that she had not been well recently, but he also knew that she wouldn't want him to point it out. He gave her a nod before returning to his mate's side. The stallion let out a calming breath before he spoke once more. "So what will our plan of action be, Khala?"

Natalie Flattening her ears against her skull to break away from the yell Natalie couldn't believe what the herd had just become. They were arguing and it seemed nothing was being solved at all this way. Khala was right and she agreed with what she had to say. The bachelor herd wasn't the right choice it put the herd at the most risk that way. Seeing reason she now knew clearly that the best thing for them to do was side with the Olde. Taking a deep breath Natalie lifted her ears up and took a step forward. "I agree with both Khala and Ryder. The bachelor herd would see us crashed the moment we even thought to betray them. There is no good ending for us with them. The Olde would be a smarter choice for it would give us a better chance to save Cael and Seeker." She said to her herd mates. She didn't often speak up around so many of her mates but she felt she needed to. Some of the horses needed to be reasoned with and the bickering and fighting needed to be stopped for Stormcry was right. They were Exiles and right now they weren't acting like the at all.
"Your right Stormcry. This fighting among ourselves isn't who the Exiles are. So instead of this foolish arguing why don't we take a moment to calm ourselves before we address any of this any farther." Natalie said in calming voice keeping rather soft and even tone. She wanted to calm everyone to make them take a moment so they could think more clearly.

((Delvin))
Delvin's stoic frown deepened as the debate continued, though it was becoming more of a shouting match at this point. He had to consciously make an effort to keep his ears from pinning themselves flat against his skull. He kept out of the rabble for a reason, but this needed to be discussed. He listened closely to Prime's rebuttal, but shook his head. It just wasn't possible. Cain was a clever shrew of a horse; he'd see through any facade they tried to pull, and probably from an angle they themselves hadn't even considered. Another member of the guard took up the mantle and began giving her input, but the questioning voice of Liora managed to pull his attention out of the stream of opinions for a moment. He sighed, quickly tiring of the whole experience himself, and leaned his head down so the painted mare could hear him over the sea of voices, "Khala wants to know what the herd wants to do; or at least what our plan of action should be in the upcomin'... war," he finished, surprised to find that the last word was a bit of a challenge to get out. It was a surreal thing, to find yourself on the brink of a war, and with a leader you had all but assumed died a long time ago. He turned his brown eyes on her and shook his head exasperatedly, "If you have somethin' to say to everyone, best speak it now," he said, "Things are gettin' loud."
The paint turned his attention back to the rest of the herd, and saw Ryder was the one speaking again. The lad had a sensible mind, and Delvin wasn't disappointed as he spoke his piece. The Olde may not be ideal, but it was the only viable option they had. He nodded in agreement until what he could only describe as a screech tore through the air, setting his nerves off even more. He tensed, and spotted the source of the racket. A dark colored mare who looked as though she was about to have a fit, but the energy seemed to leave her as quickly as it entered. He steeled his voice again and spoke his agreement, "Ryder's right. We're not about to join up with the Olde for good. We're still Exiles, but we're Exiles who need to gain the upper hand, and this is the most sensible way to do it." He paused, but he wasn't about to start censoring himself now, "If we were caught in a plot of deception, it wouldn't surprise me if Cain decided to teach us a lesson by takin' it out on his captives; our stolen herdmates." It would be the best way to crush the herd's morale further, and for all of the Bachelor's talk of force and power, Cain's true strength lay in manipulation and mind games, and he wielded it well. Prime || High Guard
"You who fled to Olde before when things looked bad, do tell me now if the Olde too is holding on to some secret battle force I should know of? What good will they do against those brutes? Pray that their unicorns will aid them? You rather turn to their foal tales than to do something useful and for once stand and not run off like a coward!" She huffed as her voice had raised during her speech to Ryder, the treason in his act still stung like a thorn in her side. He dared speak with such remarks that they all where exiles when he hadn't had any trouble leaving them all?! If Cain had no use of the bounds to their herd to being with he wouldn't have shown any interest to allow them to remain on his land. That he wouldn't see value in their numbers was unthinkable to her. If he now was so cunning he wouldn't let such a chance pass him, perhaps this decision was needed to be dealt with more urgent. And here they were acting so passive? Stormcry wanting to throw a celebration at the life of one single equine when so many other's was at stake?! Prime shook her head, how could she ask for them all to be rejoiced of their new leader when their old was still so fresh in their memory. Even less for those that knew nothing of the mare other than what Kanu had told them. She couldn't help the sting of jealousy that cut thru as Stormcry that held such spite towards her began to favor Khala, even over the rest it seemed as she claimed that they should have embraced her without a second thought.. it doesn't work that way. Not even for Cael it had been a open favoring to obtain the leader role. "We do all hold the right to speak our minds, and this situation calls for it more than any if we are too come down to a good decision. Pardon if I do come off as harsh for it but all in this herd that haven't even laid eyes upon Khala before and you ask that they should turn their focus from their own survival to celebrate hers? Even if it is a admirable and surly an interesting tale to be told... You know what Storm, I agree. Let's slow down a little after all there is no fire on this land." She didn't know if her little joke would be received well but it was a honest attempt to ease the tension. "Khala, I don't have anything against you being my leader until Cael is back, once she is I might have a different opinion which I think you can understand. As it is now it's a lot to take in at once, none the less, it would be of use to know just whom it is that we are to stand behind and fight along sided with. Please Khala do honor us with the knowledge of your travel further, if nothing else I'm sure that it would make the shifting of leaders easier on us all. For some of us do not hold the gift of voicing our minds." At this she would shoot a nod towards the clearly upset mare at Ryder's side, Rae. Her emotions hadn't gone unnoticed and Prime felt like it was a needed matter to attend.

Kanu || Current Exile Captain
As Kanu watched the herd intently, he was confused. Where these the Exiles? Cain had wanted them to erupt into a mess of tangles chaos. And he had gotten what he wanted. This pained Kanu beyond words, but he didn't want to lash out at these scared horses, for he was just the same. He turned to Rae, hus ears pinned, "Rae! You have a right to speak your opinion but you must keep your dignity. I understand it is a shock to replace Cael so soon. But you are only having a problem with this because of how you're seeing it. You mustn't see it as being unloyal to the one who has led us for many years, you must think of this situation as one that will help us get Cael- and everyone back. Which is what we're trying to do." Kanu paused, taking a breath. "Khala, I know this is a very sudden change for you, but I would not have bestowed this upon you if I- and all of us- didn't think you were ready. You have showed immense talent when you were a high guard. I know you will do us all proud." His words were sincere and he meant every one. He had run over what had happened to the Exiles since they had arrived on the Bachelors land, but Khala was disoriented and Kanu was positive now that she mustn't have registered all he had said.
He turned to Prime. "Prime, your arguement is valid and I understand where you're coming from. The Bachelors need to pay, they have taken so much from us. But, joining Olde will help us increase our chances of seeking revenge and showing Cain that he cannot just take our mares, he cannot play us like we're dumbfounded foals and he absolutely cannot drive us to the point of bickering, fighting and insanity! We are all beginning to come together, finding a final decision to solve our dilemmas. I am proud to call myself an Exile, and I am proud to call Khala my leader- and good friend." He abruptly stopped, letting his words sink in. He didn’t know how else to express his faith in these horses. He just hoped they could pull through enough to see his intentions. He smiled at Storm, who always had a calm air about her and he admired that.
Moiraggh also had a valid point. They all did. He wanted so very much to please them all, to make sure they didn't feel as though their opinions were being shot down. "Venturing to Olde seems to be the most ideal of choices, Vasska may not be the most welcoming or warm spirit, but at least he'll actually hear our alibi. Cain is hostile and devious, there is no way to be able to predict what he'll do once we agree to jpin his side. I'm aware Cael and the otherr captives are still at risk, but at least by joining Olde we will not be a herd full of captives under Cain's iron grip." His head was high and he stood by his words. Feeling as though Olde would be the final decision.

[ Ryder ]
Ryder flinched at the mare's harsh words. He knew it would be coming eventually, but to have Prime yell at him for his mistakes in front of the entire herd? Now that stung. He stomped a hoof, snorting a bit. "I did not run away when things got tough. I left to see what other options our herd could have. I could have stayed on Olde with Effie to live peacefully while the Exiles fought for their lives, but no! I came back, did I not? I did not abandon my herd or act cowardly! I came back to fight with you, to fight for what we all believe in," he said, not taking his cold, blue eyes off of the fiery mare, Prime. He sighed, shifting his gaze to the ragged scar the lined his chest. His brother had done a great deal of damage on their journey back, but if Ryder had to take one thing from the negative situation, it was to always fight for what you believe in, and Ryder believed in every single one of these horses. He knew they could fight and win if they made the right decisions.
The brown paint flicked his ears toward Prime as she spoke further. This time directing her attention to Khala. There were certainly some things that Ryder could agree with that Prime said, and he turned his focus toward Khala once more even though his eyes flicked over to Prime every now and again. He hated when she was mad at him, and he questioned whether he could successfully win her back this time. Prime had grown to be like a sister to him, and Ryder couldn't imagine if they stopped speaking for this.

Rae
Rae sidled closer to Ryder, one of the only other horses here that she knew. She heard primes insults, and pinned her ears yet again. This was a mess. This wasn't what the exiles were about. The exiles were supposed to be the most peaceful of the herds, but right now they appeared anything but. Right now, they were attacking each other.
Rae let out another small whinny to try and get everyone's attention, she nudged Ryder and shook her head at Prime. She knew that this was what happened when herds split. Different opinions would clash, fights broke out, and soon nothing was left.
"No." She said. The single word was all she could manage to utter, but it was all she wanted to say.

~Liora~
Delvin was right. She had to speak up now if she was going to have any say in what they were going to do. The shy, timid mare that Liora was had to be let go at this point. She needed to say her part. She needed to stand up for what she believed was the right thing to do. Everyone's voices were drowning her ears in a mixture of words that blurred the beginning and ends of sentences. The only one who really seemed to break through was the mare Moirragh, who had stepped into the center of the group and addressed them all at once. That seemed to have grasped their attention. It certainly took hold of Liora's.
The paint mare's attention was dragged back towards the stallion she stood next to. Delvin was speaking his part, and she agreed with him. In fact, almost everyone at the little meeting was speaking up, so, why couldn't Liora do it? The words were stuck in her throat and she knew she needed to let them out.
So, she took a few steps forward. Not too much, but just enough to get herself noticed. She waited for the chatter to die down enough for her to speak but it just wasn't happening. It was now or never. Her words were soft and quiet as she began "Those mares, our kin that sacrificed their happiness for ours can not go to waste. They did that for all of us. And some of you want to just go back home? We can't go back home. If we do, what our kin sacrificed for us would have been for nothing." Liora's tone grew as she became more passionate about her words. "We must prove to them that what they did was not in vain. That is why, I believe we should ask for assistance from Olde." Liora gulped down her fear of the others judgment as she continued. "The Olde doesn't like the Bachelors, just like us. I'm sure that if we plead our case to Vasska, he will understand and want to help us fight back. We must save Cael and the others from the grip the Bachelors holds on them, and on all of us. If that means war, then let there be war." Liora fell silent once again, and stepped back into position next to Delvin.

~ Shiya ~
Standing silently at the fringes, Shiya watched the herd as their voices ebbed and flowed, washing over her like waves. It was little moments like this when the mare suddenly felt like an outsider, among them but never really a part of them. They knew each other well enough to call themselves a family, for her it felt like she was just sticking around so she won't at least be alone anymore. Her thoughts turning dark, she however sensed eyes were on her. She glanced up to find it was Kanu's eyes that was watching her. Simply seeing the concern in his eyes eased her thoughts, thankfully that at least she had Kanu to look out for her. Before he looked away, she gave him a brilliant smile, trying to tell him she was okay.
As soon as Kanu had laid down the herd's options, it was like the storm was suddenly here as everyone erupted with heated words and strong opinions. Remembering and understanding words was far easier for her nowadays as more memories came back but soon she felt like she was listening to a different language that she barely knew. Deception...devils pay...war...Momentarily her twilight eyes followed the huge dark mare as she moved a distance from the group and spotting approaching the group before she almost leapt out of her coat at a particularly loud scream. This was all just turning into chaos.
Unsure if anyone else saw the brief look of dismay in Kanu's eyes, Shiya did. She wondered how it must feel for him to watch what he would call his family unraveling. Stepping toward him, she immediately stopped, unsure if it was appropriate for her to go to him. Even if it was to lend him some support.

{S T O R M C R Y} An exasperated breath rushed from her lips as very few seemed to heed her words. Disgust bitterly twisted her stomach as Prime spat words this way and that indignantly, clearly unimpressed that she wasn’t getting her way. When she turned her sharp tongue on Ryder, however, the dark mare’s temper shortened until she was scrabbling for calm control for the sake of the angst-filled herd; the small few that had listened to her and were also asking for quiet were drowned out in the sea of angry arguing and harsh speeches. Rae had valiantly gotten out a word, and she focused a sympathetic look on her for a few heartbeats, a small nod given to the speechless mare so that she knew she had been considered, been noticed, been heard. Prime continued on, however, such stubbornness in what Storm considered a bratty tone, refusing to accept that majority of the herd was against her in her insane idea. She’d had enough of the paint; she had gone too far this time, turning on a herdmate who had done nothing but care for his herd and family. The black guard fought to urge to sort things out with violence, and in her cold dislike, shrugged off her soft, kindly attitude as she without hurry walked down from Khala’s side to the High Guard, steps measured and even. It was time she got a taste of her own stuck-up medicine.
“Prime.” Stormcry said sharply, voice crisp in the flurry of sound that was being flung about recklessly. “How dare you turn on your own herdmate? To call him a traitor, a coward when he has done nothing but right by the herd and what he thought was right for his family? You may be of higher position than I, and sure, you could probably punish me for this if you see fit; but I no longer care. I’m sick of you. You will never admit that you are wrong, that maybe, just maybe, by the impossible chance, that someone knows better than you do. Of course, it’s understandable; you are twenty-one, after all. You’d have seen everything by now, obviously. You would know better. You have been in the herd a full three years, compared to my twenty-seven or Khala’s thirty-four.” She was getting out of hand now, spite and sarcasm creeping into her usually even tones, and before she took it too far she reined herself back in to stop harsher words spilling from her mouth and to get to her point. “If you are so quick to question Khala’s abilities and plan from her lifetime with us, then why may I not question yours? I do not respect you, Prime. Nor do I trust you to lead my herd to safety. And I do not accept you as my High Guard.”

((Delvin))
Delvin's patience was wearing thin; this arguing and nit-picking was getting them nowhere. He gave Liora a brush with his tail to let her know he agreed with her words as she fell back beside him. It would be better if everyone was at least arguing about the situation, but things were quickly turning personal. The High Guard, who Delvin was able to pick up through the shouts and screams was named Prime, was turning her rage on any horse who seemed to have a different opinion than her own. Normally he wouldn't have given a toss what the mare decided to implicate, but she seemed to be taking out the brunt of her anger on Ryder. The scout ground his hoof into the dirt, his annoyance quickly flaring into something more personal. Not only was she wasting time attacking her herdmates, she was wasting time attacking his friend. He took a step forward, thoroughly intending to come to the other scout's defense, but another horse beat him to it. He listened intently as the dark-colored mare turned her sharp gaze onto the High Guard, and began a speech even he wouldn't care to be on the receiving end of. He was always slightly in awe of how proficient mares were with wielding words, usually doing more lasting damage than any hoof or tooth could do.
Instead of interrupting, or even adding to the mare's argument, Delvin remained in place next to Liora. The Guard had said everything he had lined up and then some, and while he couldn't speak to her final comment, seeing as he didn't actually know either of the mares, the venom between them was shockingly apparent at this point. Delvin did manage to catch Ryder's eye from where he stood with his family, and the tall stallion gave him a short nod, letting him know he agreed with the Guard's words. (317)
