"Fate be changed. . ."
Your leader is gone. . .
Your herd has no home. . .
With Chevalin on the fringe of war, you must decide the fate of the Exiles. Do you stand alongside Olde as you did in ancient times, do you fight for the brutal Bachelors, or do you fall back to try to survive on the desolate lands from which you fled?
And now, your leader has been taken from you. . . Cael is gone. . .
Another question must be asked: who will lead you? Some Important Notes:- The end tally of votes said that the majority of the Exiles wish to join Olde. Since they are democratic, this majority determines where all of them will go. Now, there will be a time to voice opinions, so no worries guys! Your characters will be able to give their passionate speeches! Just note, the vote rules all and cannot be changed!
- As you may have noticed, Cael has been taken captive by Cain, and is now being held by the Bachelors. Which means, your herd is currently without a leader! Khala, one of the previous High Guards lost to the fires and believed dead, has returned to you now with words of confidence and reassurance in the power of the Exiles. She will be taking control of the herd.
- However, this also means that the position of Captain is open for a vote! Since this role is classically filled by a member, this RP will be the opening for nominations to this position. Kanu is obviously still in the running and may of course be re-elected. If you wish to nominate a character, note the group for admin review and reply about what to do! Only active and loyal horses may be nominated! You cannot nominate your own character! It must come from someone else. Also, please don't ask people to nominate you! Let's keep this fair and open for surprise!
- This also means there could be a change in the High Guards as well! But that is to be discussed where concerned with Exile Law.
- Guys, HAVE FUN!!! I know I (Rusty) am really, really excited for this to all go down, and I hope you're as stoked as I!
Event Rules: 1.) Absolutely no controlling other member’s characters! No power-playing with your character! No one is untouchable! Also, no Gary or Mary Stue-ing! Again, no character is perfect! 2.) This role-play will not have an established posting order considering the amount of characters that are going to get involved. However, you must wait at least three posts between each of yours. Try to be active with each other and try your best not to leave anyone out! This thread is very important to what will be happening to the Exiles, and we need as many people involved as possible! 3.) Report to an admin any rule breaking! Please do not try and confront them here in the forum, instead, note the group so that the admins may take care of it in a civilized fashion. 4.) Because this is a special event, this RP will not be counted like normal RPs! For participating in this event and posting at least three times, you will earn +5 WG! In addition, you can earn +1 TP for every three posts you make! (ie, 6 posts gains you +2 TP). However, you must make them within the word limit (200 minimum -500 maximum) or they won’t count! 5.) Post your word count after each post you make! The forum has a nifty counting feature as you type down in the right corner for your reference. Add this onto the end of your posts, please! 6.) Do not go above 500 words! We only have two weeks for this RP, and longer posts are harder for everyone to read and keep up with! Note: the first may be longer, but only because it will be setting the scene. If there are ever any questions or comments concerning what is happening here, please note the group with the title: To RusticLass: Exile Mass RP Characters Signed-Up:

[ Khala ]
A blanket of blackness wrapped it's stifling warmth over the already humid climate of the Eastern Island. In the distance, bright flashes of light signaled the approaching storm, the thunder telling the distance between it and the bright chestnut mare. Her figure was silhouetted by a sudden boom and lightning strike. She stood above the herd that she had lost so long ago. . . It had been nearly a year since she had seen them all. They were so different, all of them. Even now, in the slight glow, she could see their frail forms, sides still recovering from months of starvation. With a sigh, her own still thin sides shook, pain twinging through her body at the movement. For a year she had wandered alone, seeking hopelessly for something she could never find- but now. . . now, she had found a new purpose. If there was one constant in her life, it had been the Exile herd. If there was one people she could serve, it would be them.
Khala lifted her muzzle and loosed a shrill neigh of greeting, eyes picking out the forms of the horses bellow. A few she still easily recognized, Kanu, Roxanna, Ryder. . . The first she had seen not a week ago. Kanu had found her wandering onto Eastern, and he was the one who gave her the news, filling her in on what had happened over the last year. Her childhood friend, Cael, had become leader, and he, Kanu, one of her pupils from many years ago, had become Captain. A smile touched her lips at the thought. While her absence had meant the loss of her position as a High Guard, it was no matter, she could work her way up once more. She'd done it before, why not again?
It appeared the herd was deep in discussion, their body language speaking for their muttered words. Something had happened. . . something terrible. Khala did not need her previous gift of telepathy to know exactly what they were feeling. Nervous. Scared. Humbled. Conflicted. All of it shown in their hunched posture, flattened ears and straightened, tense legs. The chimera's ears flicked backwards. What had happened here? What had happened to the noble and free Exiles of Southern? Bachelors. It could only be explained as such. They had taken a mare before, perhaps they came back again. Her lips drew back into a disgusted snarl, golden gaze turning to look over the plains in their direction. Evens he had begun to hear the tales of their new leader, Cain. With eyes narrowed, she began her descent from the hill, flicking her loose braid over her neck to rid her face of it's fly-aways. "Exiles," she called. "Greetings from an old friend, now returned." {Efflorescence}
Effie was thin, bedraggled - motherhood had not been kind, then again neither had the bachelors. Many horses were speaking and little of the information was going in her grey ears, she sighed heavily and nuzzled her little Leif, keeping him close away from the others. "Go to the Oldes!" she heard one horse cry "Go home!" cried another. Home. She thought bitterly, a place filled with smoke and fire and barely enough food to support the frail horses here. "I think we should go to the Oldes, Home will not support us for long enough, we will die from starvation quicker than any war will kill us." Effie was tired of being under the bachelors thumb, and now with Cael gone, what were they to do?
Effie turned her head and took in the sight of the Chimera mare and listened to her words, "Exiles," she called. "Greetings from an old friend, now returned." Effie was Startled, surely Khala had perished in the fire She turned her body to face the mare now "Khala" The name rolled from her mouth, and she cocked her head to the side. "You perished? Quite obviously not. Yet you return now - why did you not seek us out before" Effie had a million and one questions for the returning mare, she would need to give her time to answer.Effie wanted to say she wasn't surprised, the mare was resilient - she would have to be to have been a high guard. "I suppose I should say, welcome back"

((Delvin))
The bay stallion couldn't stand still. If Delvin was angry before that arrogant snake masquerading as a horse marched into their camp, he was livid now. It would be a lie to say that he was surprised. Taking their leader was just the insurance those cowards needed if it turned to war between the herds, like everyone had begun to fear. His hooves tore through the grass and topsoil as he turned sharply to the left, shaking his head and muttering to himself. He'd crack the skull of the next Bachelor he saw, deal or otherwise. They never should've come here, and they certainly never should've made that deal in the first place. This is what they got for stooping to the Bachelor's level; you end up trading off your own kin for a bit of grass and land, but they should've known the Bachelors wouldn't stop there. He'd rather starve in the sun on the Southern Island twice over than watch this mess keep unfolding around them. But it was too late for that. They've all made their beds, as a herd, and they were going to have to come out of this as a herd.
He looked around, at the mass of horses around him. It had been a while since he voluntarily mixed himself into the herd action, but they couldn't afford to be scattered now. They needed a plan, and they needed one fast, and as much as the paint hated to admit it, running off to nick the ears off the closest Bachelor stallion he could find wasn't going to solve anything. He raised his head to look for Ryder, the only one he could think to discuss with right now, and spotted another horse stood atop a nearby hill. He pinned his ears and marched a few steps forward until the figure spoke, and while Delvin recognized the voice, he didn't have a name to place it to right away. He swiveled his ears forward and grumbled to himself as the memory resurfaced. It was that guard mare, Khala; the one who was lost during the fires. He assumed she had died, along with all the other missing horses, but apparently he was mistaken. How she managed to find them was beyond him. (381)

{ Ryder }
Ryder's ears flattened further as the debate carried on. He kept his mouth firmly shut as he listened to his other herd-members' inputs. Some wanted to go to Olde to seek out Vasska for help, and others wanted to return back to the their island. Ryder found himself looking at his son, Leif, and mate, Effie, as the talk continued. What direction would he want to be suit his family? He had to protect them after all and staying here on the Eastern island was certainly out of the question for him even if the brutes that owned these lands still had captives from their herd. It had been their decision to let the Bachelors take them, and the paint scout was sure that they would hate to see the Exiles give up. No! They were fighters, survivors. They would make it through this even if they had to make sacrifices. Ryder's torn ear flicked in Effie's direction as she spoke, and he nodded at her comment. "I think Olde is our only option. Surely, no one will want to join up with the Bachelors," he said, glancing down at the grey and white foal between Effie's legs. As a father, Ryder couldn't bring himself to take the foal back to the charred piece of land that would only lead to Leif growing ill and weak.
His head snapped around as a chimera horse whinnied in the distance. Khala. The last time he had seen her, the fires were still roaring through their land and taking lives with it. He had thought for certain that the mare had perished with the flames. "Khala, welcome back. You've come back in the nick of time," he said with a hint of a chuckle in his rough voice. Khala had been a high guard before he had joined the herd, but they had met previously.

| Moirragh | Again and again, the bellowing voices of the rest of the herd echoed in the mare's skull. The chaos and desperation were taking a good grip on the herd, and that was something she couldn't stand- chaos. She wanted to keep her mind organized. There was a situation- a captive leader, a confused herd and a war declaration. There were also choices to make... choices that could determine what became of her, but that for now only brough uncertainty of the future.An uncertain future. Her knees shook just by thinking what could happen to her herd -her family- if they all took the wrong path. Her nerves had taken over her mind long ago, since all this ruckus had begun, and the realisation that she could actually be in serious danger hit her hard. There she stood right now- squished between some herdmates, listening to the decaying melody that the arguing voices ahead of her made. Almost trebmling, she stood close to those she trusted, and listened. But she had things to say, things to declare- and she couldn't bring herself to it. What if she was wrong, not the herd?Ragh was torn in two. A hard but subtle new voice joined the others- but this one shut the rest up. 'Exiles' it called. 'Greetings from an old friend, now returned.'And with that, Moirragh completely shut her mind down. This was way too much to take.

Adair watched the unfolding event in silence, his jaw clenched tightly and a grave look on his face. The herd was debating what to do, after that horrid leader of the accursed Bachelors came and took the Exile's own leader. Adair had overheard that there was an agreement that they would no longer take any mares or colts captive as long as Cael was held captive, but the large stallion did not believe that the agreement would hold out for long; creatures such as the Bachelors were certainly not honorable folk. And not only that, but apparently a war had been declared between the Bachelors and Olde. Adair tossed his head slighltly, moving his thick forelock that was blocking his vision in one eye. He continued listening to the chaos in silence, no matter how much he wanted to voice his opinion. He frowned as he heard one of the herd members cry that the should return to the Southern Isles-- what used to be their home. 'Home..' Adair thought. He wanted nothing more than to return home, but was was there for the herd? Nothing! No, returning home was not an option; the last thing Adair wanted was to see his little brother die of thirst or starvation. Siding with the Bachelors definitely was not an option; Adair would have rather thrown himself off of a cliff than to stay under that barbaric herd's rule. That only left the Exiles their last option: to turn to Olde and side with them.
"Exiles, greetings from an old friend, now returned." Adair turned his head towards the sound of the voice, his ears flicked forward. He saw a chimera horse, whom he assumed was a mare from the pitch of her voice, standing atop a hill the looked out over the small patch of land that the Exiles were on. He narrowed his eyes at her; he certainly didn't recognize her. Perhaps she was with the herd before Adair and his sibling had stumbled across to the Exiles...? (360 words)

Rae stood at the back of the group. She was thinking of her opinion but it wasn't so easy. She knew she wanted to be with Ace, the only horse who had ever truly cared for her; but he was in the Bachelor herd. A herd of savages. Then again, they could go to Olde. Surely, there would be shelter and food there. Her ribs ached at the thought of food. She hadn't had a good graze in what felt like months. Her stomach still felt like it was filled with soot and ash, inhaled in the fire. The fire that had killed what was now, their only chance. Khala. The chimera mare had been a strong support to the herd but ever since the great fire, she had been unseen to any of the herd horses. Most believed she'd been burned to a crisp in the great fire which stripped the land of its nutrition. But now, she prayed to the unicorns (no matter if she beleived in them or not) that someone, Khala or not, would come to their rescue.
Rae was snapped out of her thoughts at a strong, familiar voice. "Exiles." It spoke. "Greetings from an old friend, now returned." Everyone's head turned in disbelief. Could it be...?

Alduin l Exile Scout l StallionAlduin stood in the back of the gathering group, father away from any of the horses bickering away. His ears pinned back to his neck, eyes wide and nose flared. Alduin did NOT want to be here. He would much rather be alone. Honestly, he should be a Loner but since he was so fragile he needed the protection of a herd. Alduin had a few horses who he wold gladly stand by but they were no where to be found. Seeker had sacrificed herself for the good of the herd, giving them much needed time in the Bachelor lands. Cael followed suit and gave herself to Cain, allowing more precious time to the herd. Baene had left the herd for which Alduin still was unsure of. He only hoped that the white stallion was safe where ever he was.
Alduin continued to stand awkwardly at the back of the group when a flash of brown caught his pale red eyes. At first he thought he was seeing things. On occasion he would see his mother appear before him but never had an appearance been in the presence of others. And the way the herd reacted only confirmed that Alduin was indeed not seeing things.
Khala, a mare who everyone thought had been lost to the flames, standing before them like she had never been lost. "Exiles," she called out, her voice calm and firm. "Greetings from an old friend, now returned." Alduin stared at her dumbfounded. Khala had been lost to the fires for such a long time. Even if she did survive the fires, the predators would have picked her off easily. How was it that she was standing before them now, looking as if she never left, her voice calm like she had just returned from a pleasant walk not only a few moments ago?
How was she so strong?

[ Khala ]
The sooty mare's countenance slowly fell once she realized what the muttered words had been arguing about. As her skeletally thin legs brought her slowly closer, the voices became clearer. Olde. Bachelor. Home. North or South, East or West. They were discussing where the herd was to go. Sadness filled her eyes as she thought of the place from whence she came. Their home was decimated, and though the first signs of spring were beginning to show when she left, it would take far more time than this to heal their land. It would take years, if not a full decade before Southern would be habitable once more. They could not return there, not now.
Khala soon stood among her old herd members, muzzle lifted with a warm smile. It did not last long, however; no longer than it took for Effie to ask her question. "You perished? Quite obviously not. Yet you return now - why did you not seek us out before?" The chimera forced her face to grow stoic, hiding all emotions as she had always taught herself, hiding the anguish beneath her skin. Why indeed. No-one had known of her feelings for Locke. Not even he, in the end, knew of them. She could not hold the truth from them, but she could hold her emotions to herself.
"I did not come because it was not yet time," she replied coolly, looking up at the taller mare. "I left with Donna in search of Locke, our fallen leader, as I now know. Both were perished in the fires, and I am the one who found their bodies." She cast a quick glance at Ryder, the stallion she had helped escape the fires, wishing so desperately that she could have saved them all. . . "I was lost, and my herd was gone." Khala turned back to the crowd, lifting her muzzle slightly, as if it would make her seem taller, if only slightly. "But I see now, that the Exiles have not perished, though the other herds would love to see us do so. It took me many moons to come to this. . . and my journey after was long and arduous." A swift motion of her head to the rest of the crowd soon followed these words, her expressive ears flicking backwards as her gaze landed on each horse about her individually. "Now I see that this was the right time to return. . . With all that has happened to us, it is hard to see what destiny has in store for the Exiles, but I assure you, my loyal herdmates, we can see this through together. After all, when have the Exiles ever given up without a fight?" (449 words)

Kanu || Current Exile Captain
Tensions were high, with the recent capture of their Exile Leader, the stranded horses were like birds trying to fly against strong winds that wouldn't allow them to propel forward. He was amongst the horses, trying to calm those who were slowly slipping from sanity. He had now spoken with each member of the Exiles more than three times in one hour. He was exhausted, but he did everything in his power to keep his strength up for his family. They needed him, most of them didn't admit it and most of them probably didn't even need his help, but he didn't care, the only thing he was thinking of right now was the wellbeing of those that had suddenly been dumped on this god forsaken island.
He approached Morraigh, she didn't look well, and Kanu worried.
"Are you ok, Morraigh?" He asked, able to determine the answer, this was the hundredth time he had asked that question today, but he needed to make sure he was keeping an eye on everyones levels of stress so they didn't fall ill. Without a leader, Kanu was the one who needed to keep the herd in order, obviously it was a difficult job but with the help of the high guards and elites- who had been a great help- he had managed to keep them sane for the most part.
Before Moirraigh had a chance to answer, all attention was averted toward a slim figure. It was Khala, the former high guard of the herd. Kanu wasn't shocked, he had been helping her recover for the past few weeks before she decided to reveal herself to the herd. When he found her a few days prior, she was hardly a whisper of what she once was. She was stranded and starving on the ground, so Kanu helped her. His shock was almost too much for him to take once he saw her in the mud, so he did know what the other Exiles were going through right now. He approached her,
"Khala, you look much better than you did a few days ago. I'm glad you've decided to show yourself today." He said to his old friend. He was glad to see her doing better, she was so strong and he admired that- he always had. He didn’t doubt that the rest of the Exiles agreed.
He knew today was the day that he may be denoted to a lower rank. He had been trying not to think about it but the uneasy feeling had slowly been drilling at the sides of his stomach, making him feel queasy. His whole life was now built on being the captain, and he believed the job had moulded him into someone more mature and able to endure more than what he was. He didn't know what he'd do if he was demoted. For now, his attention was taken from the vote and placed onto Khala's arrival. She had a new air about her, she seemed more confident and the passion in her eyes was where it used to be. He stood next to her, giving her a smile.
“Khala will be our new leader- we have not given up on Cael, only increased our chances of getting her back. Khala knows what she is doing and I am positive she’ll guide us to wherever our future lies. As of now we follow her, loyal and true to her every command. She was supposed to be the leader a long time ago, and now the day has finally come for her. Welcome home, Khala.” He said, his head held high and his voice projecting across the whole of the herd.//

|| Aragon ||
Aragon took in a deep breath, flaring her nostrils and let it out. She twitched her ear and looked around. Ever since the group got back it had been chaos. Cael was a bachelor slave and while aragon did not know her well she knew she was good for the herd. She listened to the herd and nodded or shook her head when needed and occasionally voiced her opinion. It sounded more like bickering the more the horses talked. 'I'm going to get a headache from this.' She thought as she watched. Aragon looked to Ryder, who she had considered a friend. He kept his mouth clamped shut for awhile. "Back to olde.." Aragon said. "Would they let us come back?" She asked. Aragon heard a voice and her ears pricked up to where the voice was coming from. She had joined only after the fire but remembered the smoke and how it choked her. Aragon heard Ryder talk and looked at him then back to the mare. 'Khala..' She thought and tried to think back to when she first joined after the fire she remembers mourning but that was it. 'Everyone seems to remember her so it must be good that she came back.' Aragon thought. (Word count: 205)

{ Ryder }
Ryder's ear flicked in Aragon's direction as she spoke. He hadn't realized she was there with all of the commotion, but he was happy to see her. The small group that had left and come back from Olde had grown quite close during their long trek... well, most of them. Bryce seemed to have grown more and more distant especially after Leif's birth. Ryder was sure that his half-brother felt abandoned, but if he was going to be hostile enough to leave a ragged scar on his own brother's pelt, Ryder didn't want him to go anywhere near Leif or Effie. At Aragon's question, Ryder hummed in thought. "Well, they didn't exactly know we were there the first time, but I'm sure we can talk some sense into Vasska. There is plenty of room on Olde for another herd especially if we only stay until our own island is habitable again," he said with a nod. He didn't know Vasska personally, but the Olde leader had to be better than the wicked king that ruled this island with an iron fist.
Ryder listened to Khala's words intently. Her strong personality seemed to emanate from the sooty mare. She held her head high and had a sort of authoritative air about her. Khala had saved him from the fires, and he owed his life to her. At Kanu's words, Ryder nodded silently. Khala was the best suited of them all to take the position. The Exiles needed a leader, one who was strong and clever. To survive this long on the Southern island alone, Khala was certainly the horse they needed to lead them. His blue eyes sought Effie's to see her reaction to all of this. It was a lot to take in, and both of them had responsibility riding on their shoulders to protect their son and make the right decisions for him. At one time, Ryder and Effie had discussed leaving the herd, but how could they now that the herd needed them the most? No. The Exiles needed to stick together and fight for their lives as one. "Welcome home, Khala," he said, dipping his head respectively to the new leader.

~ Shiya ~
It was the coming of the storm that drove Shiya to return to the safety of the herd. Ever since the storm that caused the Great Fire, she had grown wary of the dark clouds, the flashing lights and the rumbles and booms that accompanied. As always, her ears swiveled around constantly, instinctively listening out for predators or horses while she was out on her own. She knew the dangers of going off on her own, especially with her wounds still somewhat mending. She could be killed or, as she was once told, captured by the Bachelors. However even after spending most of the autumn, winter and now spring amongst horses, the mare was still a little uneasy being around others, especially large groups, after years of self exile and so journeyed off. Never too far, for Kanu's peace of mind, unless curiosity got the better of her. Though she did find as of late, her absences had grown fewer. This time however she had needed some space to wrap her mind around recent events; the black mare leader with firey mane and tail, Cael, went with the stallion strangers, Bachelors. From what the reactions of Exiles she had seen from a distance, it was not a good thing. Yet she could not understand why they had let her go with them.... Breathing in the hot moist air as she briskly trotted down into the fields the Bachelors permitted the Exiles to stay, Shiya searched for those she knew in the sea of horses. Shifting her gaze from one horse to another and another as she approached, the filthy mare knew many by face value at least now. While she had grown more at ease and had managed to fill out during her time with the Exiles, Shiya had noticed many had grown thin and greatly stressed instead. Arguments swiftly reached her ears, though the topic caused them to droop worriedly. They spoke of leaving; some say to go back home, but many saying to go to the 'Olde'. Another island? Uneasily shifting her weight on her hooves as her tail twitched, she was left unsure. Snapping her attention to a mare stranger, she was vaguely aware many of the voices had gone silent. Though a few were quick to greet her, including Kanu! They knew her. Khala. And they wanted her as the new leader. She trusted Kanu to know what was best for her and the herd and so she had no argument but...what of the leader before her? What will become of her?

| Moirragh | Kanu's words were still recoiling in her head, as well as the stallion's approach to Khala. His question had momentarily distracted her, but before she had a chance to answer (not that she may have been able) she found herself looking at the ground once again.
She shot her ears forward and quickly glanced at Kanu, standing besides Khala- which was currently being bombarded with obvious and painful questions. Khala herself looked dreadfully thin, and scarred, if not physically possibly mentally. Her head slowly moved to one side to another. Ryder, Aragon, Alduin... she was unable to read their faces -they must be just as puzzled as she was, even if a bit more self controlled. Opinions and words were being exchanged between them, and Ragh tried hard to not lose both track and her mind to her fears.
What were they talking about now? Cael...the leadership? Olde?
...The other herds!
