Her ears turned out to the sides as the nickname hit them again. The name she chose for him didn't seem to faze him at all, which also bothered her. It wasn't enough to make her agitated though.
"Alright, stick close, i don't want you to get lost in the wood." She glanced back at him as she picked up into a gallop. The first drops of rain had started to freckle their coats as they made it into the protection of the silver trees.
Darting into and out of the trees with practiced familiarity, she kept glancing behind herself to make sure he was following her. There was large oak they could take refuge under deeper in the woods, she'd only found it one time before in such a situation, and she hoped she could find it again.

Gaius | The Exiles | Guard
The stallion nods in agreement, also following in a strong gallop- his strides long and muffled. Gaius soon became in sync with the mare, not missing a beat as he followed close by. The land may be foreign but there was no secret to the forest's tricks. However the weather seemed to decided to make itself known abruptly. The little dribbles of water droplets soon became thick pelts as it descended down- hard, splattering the horses below it's wrath. It took no time to make the once well-groomed male to become a drowned rat. This thought alone made Gaius groan rather loudly. He'd rather not think of his (presumably) ridiculous appearance.

Arriving safely below the thick branches of the grand oak, she panted catching her breath. The air was thick with the smell of rain and humidity, almost choking one would say. The only thing that seemed to make it bearable was the cool breeze that drifter through the trees.
Nefertiti's once shining coat was now soaked to her skin, causing her to grumble to herself before shaking it out in hopes to make it look better. It didnt work. She now looks like slightly puffed wet dog, her mane and tail only drifting a little less. As she groaned in frustration, a icy gust caught her square in the chest, causing a chill to run through her body.
The woods always felt magical to her, and even now in the rain, you could almost feel the magic-rich air floating around you. The silver leaves of the trees shone in what little sun was coming through the clouds, glittering with the heavy rain that fell onto them.
Looking back to ensure Gaius was still behind her, she turned herself to stand parallel with the thick branch above her, to minimize the rain onto her coat. "It should pass by soon, if not I'll take us to the city and we can wait in a building."

Gaius nodded at the instruction, setting himself under a lush branch that did a pleasant job of blocking most of the rain. The ground under not as drowned as the rest around it. He couldn't help but practically drool over the scenery, it was gorgeous- nothing like the dying, frail lands of the southern isle, it was completely opposite. Ever detail seemed to shimmer with the rain and gave off a mystical air to it. He loved it. The stallion let out a relieved sigh as he leaned against the tree lazily before he spoke softly, at random- not able to stop himself- "So.. what's it like living in the Olde herd?" Boldly said if he may add. But the tone was so dreamy, just picturing the luxury.

Nef was taken aback by the question, as it completely caught her by surprise. What should she say? Of course every herd had it's high and lows, but she wasn't sure what to emphasize. Her eyes search around for a sign as to what to say, with her thoughts praying.
Oh Compromiser, a sign would be just DELIGHTFUL right now...
Almost as soon as she thought it the rain started lesson its harsh fall, and she looked upwards at the tree with a weird look. Muttering to herself, she rose and eyebrow to the sky. "That'll do." Turning to look back at Gaius she shook her head before speaking, to clear her thoughts.
"Well, it's actually quite wonderful here. This forest for example is one of the most magically charged places in all of chevalin, which makes training and learning that much easier here." She started, looking off into the distance. "The silver river which leads here starts in our praying pool, where it's believed the Unicorns answer our prayers. At least that's what we're told." Turning back to face him, a tender smile crossed her face. "Though my favorite place on the Island has to be The Shatter Lands. In the spring all the fields and islands are covered in the most Gorgeous wild flowers. Its as if a rainbow itself where sleeping in the fields."
Snapping herself out of her daydreaming stupor, her smile faded away to reform her composure of a Knight. "Did you originally plan to come here with the Exiles who fled the fires? Or did you get tired of the brutish Bachelors?"

The grullo smiled fondly at the mare, her words were compassionate in the tales of the Olde herd. Just hearing the fine detail of it all, the beauty of the sights, it driven him more to once again be in the herd that generations before had. He wanted to pursue this paradise. "Sounds wonderful" he whispered; more to himself. The question, however, took him by great surprise. It may have been repeated and twisted in wording, but he should have known that this would come around again- the male can't run from it. So he laughed. laughter that was borderline awkward and uncertain. It was fake. "Nah, I didn't come with them.. and the Bachelor's aren't much of a bother for me- Actually..." He strained to swallow before making direct eye contact with Nef, showing the defined seriousness in his neon eyes, "I came here to-... to come back to my destined home..."

"Your Destined Home?" She repeated back to him, the words sounding strange to her. What could he possibly mean by that? Her eyes looked away from his to the sky as a clap of thunder exploded overhead, bringing with it more rain.
The rain began to pour once again, though the tree provided ample shelter for the time being. Nef set her eyes back to his, before taking in a deep breath. "What do you mean by that, if it's not too bold to ask."

Shaking his head slowly, Gaius smiled "No, it's not bold of you..." he said softly, looking off to the side; he chuckles lightly, thinking about how ridiculous this whole situation is. "Because I'm trusting you- I'd think I'd let you know that my family was once here. all of them. and frankly the 25 years I've been around didn't stop the yearning to return. I've never been here and yet something is pulling me back.. I think I'm just destined to be here- you know?" The grullo tilted his head in question, awaiting an answer with searching eyes. He's said too much for his liking so it's only natural for him to find some sort of mutual trust between him and the other to keep him at ease.

Nefertiti rose her eyebrows in surprise and a smile grew on her face. Maybe he had a chance to stay? She didn't know why that made her happy at the moment, but it just did. Maybe she could show him the beautiful places he so desperately longed to see?
A frown started to grow in its place though. He was an exile, which meant he or his parents did wrong. It would've been before her time, since she was only 21, but maybe her parents had known? Her father was a healer mage after all, he might definately've known.
"Why'd your family get sent to the exiles?" She said in a soft whisper, just barely audible above the rain.

Gaius | The Exiles | Guard
His eyes quickly lowered to the grass beneath him, letting the rain drown out all noise as he kept silent. Trying to explain how they ended up on the Southern Isle is a little hard to explain honestly, it's not a simple thing to discuss. especially if because of that event, created pent up hatred as well. Yeah.. it's not the safest thing to bring up.. keeping his gaze down as well as his voice, he started with a long exhale. "How we ended up there, huh? well... I guess you could say that my-... my father kind of messed everything up for my mother." He than turned away from Nef, so his face was not in her line of view. Last thing he needed was for her to see the burning flames of hate in his eyes and the anguish adorned on his face. "He was a Thief- a loner.. and happened to be the most idiotic stallion out there.. When my mother was pregnant he decided to steal something from you're king's father- to be honest I didn't know what but the action terrified my mother and even though she didn't take part.. she was still the victim of it. she was so terrified of my well being- me not being born yet that she fled to the Southern Isle... "A long sigh broke through the prolonged silence, "Please don't think any less of me because I'm a son of trash"

Nefertiti listened intently, her eyebrows raising slightly in concern for this stallion. Echos of a distant murmur in her early memories of her father speaking of such a thief rung in her ears. There were many thieves among the loners, so she shook the thought.
Assuming her mother thought as most of the Olde do, The Bachelors were right out, and since she was scared of a loner, and let alone accustom to the herds, she would have no choice but to run south. In the end she thought his mother made the best choice for him, and she cracked a small smile.
It faded quickly as he called himself trash. Her brows furrowed together in frustration.
"You are not who your parents are..." She spoke, quietly but firmly. "So stop that right now. Hell, it should say something that i don't even consider you trash, since that's how we're all taught to treat outsiders." She stopped, thinking to herself that it might not be the best of words, so she tried to correct herself. "But that doesn't matter, you were not made an exile by choice or understanding, and to me that makes you still Olde. Fairy what the king says, Fairy what your father did, and Fairy anyone who made you think you were trash." Her voice seemed to raise as a touch of passion hit into it.

Gaius | The Exiles | Guard
Her words took a KO to him, hearing them left bubbling warmth inside that he tried desperately to ignore. To have someone tell him this- to say that he's not like them was so-... comforting. The word sounded odd to him, and not many were much of comfort let alone being a shoulder to lean on. Not like he really needed it. But he laughed none the less; laughter that perched through the thunder and filled the area around him. It wasn't fake- just joyful- happy even? Either way he felt better than he did a few minutes ago, hell, he felt better than he did years ago. He was thankful for having met Nef. He settled down a bit as he turned back towards the Olde member, smiling gently as he spoke "I'm glad to know that was cleared up by someone," He joked, "I never had such a good laugh in years."

A warm smile formed on Nef's lips as he smiled and laughed a genuine laugh. His real laugh sounded much more inviting and jovial than his sarcastic ones, and she quite enjoyed it. His laughter almost seemed to warm her to the core, but she shook it off.
Gotta play it cool, Nef.
"I'm just surprised no one told you sooner, honestly." The mare admitted, shrugging it off like a kid trying to be cool, moving her eyes off in a tad to exaggerated fake interest. "I mean, I thought it was obvious. But I' glad you feel better about it now and stuff."
By the Unicorns I must look like an idiot-
A bolt of lightning struck one of the towering silver trees about quarter mile away, filling the air with a loud crackling before dissolving into a loud rumble. This caused Nefertiti to jolt in her place, launching herself full force forward and into Gaius, shrieking like a banshee.

Gaius | The Exiles | Guard
The Exile all but blinks, hardly fazed by the crackling of the tree and the joined rumbling of thunder soon after. Slowly he opens his mouth to ask a simple question to the Olde but a small gasp escapes the grullo instead as a sudden heavy weight is pressed up into his side; the extra warmth radiating onto him was oh-so welcoming and even tempting to innocently press back, however, he freezes momentarily realizing that this mass of heat was the body of Nef- the mare that was- during one moment- at a comfortable distance away from him and now literally up onto him, quivering and waling over the merciless storm releasing it's rage. She was against him. '...What?' He gaped 'Is she seriously--'Gaius could barely comprehend the event that had just occurred; processing the fact that she was so close to him- pressed up against him and he had done nothing to prevent her from doing so... He didn't want to prevent her- he secretly wanted this sort. What was he even thinking anymore? Was he even himself right now? Had he just thought that? He just met her! Gaius wasn't some hormone-driven teen who seeks anyone- anything to satisfy them; even in the slightest! The bustling thoughts had left the male to laugh once again, loud and booming, bouncing against the bright colored trees surrounding them as he continues into his hysterics; Unable to stop himself at this point. He found everything hilarious up to this point. What was he even laughing at? Her? Himself? This situation? Possibly all three- he didn't care anymore. He didn't care whether the situation seemed ridiculous and that he had done no effort in soothing the frightened mare properly, the only comfort he gave however was a mutual press to her, craning his head down ever slightly in a sort-of-comforting embrace he could muster while his body jerks at the hiccuping laughs he was producing. Blessed unicorns, he was surely a lost soul.

The small Arabian stood close to him, shaking softly with the fear that had momentarily washed over her. Her eyes darting around through the trees and the pouring rain to see if she could spot the monster that had scared her. The warmth of his body soothingly warming hers as her shaking began to slow. The thunder still rumbled over head as the storm continued to wash the land, echoing out through the sky and trees with the stallions laugh. Nefertiti froze as she felt the tall stallion reach his head over her neck to comfort her, his laughing only slightly muffled now. Her heart seemed to leap in her chest as she smiled softly to his touch, letting her body relax but her mind was in a whirl.
What am I doing?
Shaking the thoughts from her head, she lifted her eyebrows as she regained her composure. Giving a huff, she looked away from the stallion with false disinterest. "That Lightning." She started, glancing back at the stallion. "One of the few things that catches me off guard. Sometimes." Pursing her lips to fill out her disinterested face, she turned her head more curiously towards Gaius to see his reaction. If not to see if he was still laughing, then to see how well her 'playing cool' really worked on him.
