With scurrying feet, Cael cantered down the street her heart fluttering like birds-wings. It had been a long time since she had felt such rush of pure adrenaline coursing through her veins and all at once, she realized how much she missed it. No one was around to tell her what to do or where to be; both bachelor guards and leaderly duties long past. But the feint clip of hooves behind her did not go unnoticed as they reemerged from the back streets she had just crawled out of. Originally, she had thought it to be the others, particularly Lilith or Ron, looking for her when she did not show at their meeting place. But now, the gut-wrenching hold of danger gripped her gut again and the odd little voice in the back of her mind told her something was off. Taking a quick turn down a dark ally, she cloaked herself in the shadow of ruined buildings: waiting, watching. It did not take long for her follower to come cruising by and the flaxen to realize this was not a horse she was familiar with.
The dark mare froze, her breaths shallow as she watched the horse dash out of sight. She had not even recognized it to be of Bachelor or Exile herd which only left one option...OLDE! Her fluttering heart skipped a beat. Olde herd never been her enemy in particular but they were enemies of the Bachelor herd. "Lilith.." the mares names passed her lips like a breath. She had to find her now!
Carefully, the captive leaned out to glance down the street where the other had disappeared; the soft beat of hooves now echoing in the distance. It gave Cael enough of a cue to leave, rushing from the shadows and in the opposite direction. The feint sound of a scuffle bounced off the stone walls, the voices unrecognizable but it didn't matter. Determination drove the mare forward until the shouting became clearer. Quickly, she ducked into an ally, disappearing as she had done only minutes ago; her dark pelt cloaked in the darkness of the shadows.

Kali's hooves rang on the road as he galloped past alleyways, the city unfamiliar before his eyes as he galloped haphazardly, careening down a twisting passage. Where was the horse he'd been running after? Skidding to a halt, he swiveled his ears, searching for any sign of the mysterious horse who'd crashed into the bridge. All he knew about it was that the stranger had a bright red tail, like fire. He'd caught a tiny flash out of the corner of his eye as he'd run towards the stranger.
But now, he saw nothing. Not even the tiniest flame-like lick of mane or tail to show where the stranger was. And the buildings seemed to be crowding in, trapping the black overo in a maze that he could not escape. Whirling, he stared back the way he'd come, feeling panic well up within his chest. What if he couldn't get back? What if he ran into Calligo? Or his creepy twin? What if he ended up running straight into a patrol of Bachelor stallions? The stallion's breath heaved through his nostrils as the thoughts mounted.
Calm down. Just breathe. Go back the way you came. Kali thought to himself until he felt his muscles release. Slowly, he began walking back towards the broken bridge, hoping he could find it without becoming even more deeply entrapped.

In any other circumstances, Delilah would have taken utter advantage of Arietti's outstretched muzzle of support and comfort, but at the moment, she was stunned into silence, frozen as she pressed herself against the wall with her pale eyes wide and staring. Arietti's tune changed quickly however, and instead of attempting to comfort Delilah, pressed her for more information on who was outside the warehouse, surely about to burst in any second. If it had just been Arturo, she could have handled that. Actually, any horse could be outside those doors and she would be her usual, mischievous self, but Caligo was out for blood, for her life. Though it was against the Olde's creed to take lives, he was prepared to suffer for his sins. Now she was exempt from the rule anyhow, her herd changed. "Caligo..." she whispered, looking over at Arietti finally as she regained control of her body. She opened her mouth to speak more, but then Lilith's voice rang through her ears. Frantically, her hooves started moving of their own volition, slipping on the paved floor of the warehouse as she scrambled to get her legs under her. She scanned for places to make her escape, and saw a broken out window, a light going on in her mind. She ran full force towards it and made her leap, crossing an alleyway and crashing through the window in the building next door. It wasn't her intention, but nothing truly was at this point. Glass flipped from her thick mane, while other shards were slid under her skin, little streams of blood betraying their embedded locations.

The voices continued to mumble behind the walls, but yet Ari didn't hear their words. All she could hear was the blood rushing through her ears in excitement at the possibilities of finally being able to go home. She didn't resent anyone for holding her here... not really, but that didn't change the fact that she wanted to go home, back to those she loved, and who loved her. It felt like forever before the frightened mare finally answered her, and for a moment she was totally lost. Caligo? She felt like she knew the name... but she wasn't sure. She'd heard it before but where? Then she remembered her list of names she had collected of the Olde, names of horses she had yet to meet and befriend. Caligo was from Olde! She was right! They were here to save her! Before she could celebrate though she heard Lilith's voice calling for Delilah to run. Run? But why? Oh no! Suddenly she was able to put two and two together. Olde may have been there... but they were enemies of the Bachelor. If they were here, they would fight.
A loud clatter drew Ari's attention back to Delilah who was now missing. Quickly she trotted to the window, looking through to the building with now broken glass. She grimaced at the thought of breaking through that. As she watched the buckskin mare running off to escape whoever it was that was here. Momentarily she was torn between going after the mare to assure she would be ok, that she would stay safe, and going in to stop the fighting between the two herds... or try at least. They would listen to her, right? She was a member of their own herd. They had to! Delilah would be alright... right? Her hooves were glued to their spot as she swayed back and forth between the two options. Curled ears fell back in determination suddenly and she turned, running out of the warehouse toward the loud hustle of hooves. Coming into the alley where they fought she skid to a halt, almost running right into Lilith and the spotted horse with empty eyes. She blinked in shock and confusion for only a moment before she shook her head, pulling herself together. "STOP IT!" She yelled at the top of her lungs, her soft voice not fitting the intensity in her tone. "Don't hurt them!" Her words were directed toward both parties. She didn't want to see her herd-mates harmed, but she also didn't want to see her new acquaintances hurt either. She was sure there was some other way to settle things besides this. Why chose to draw blood when things could be talked through? War sickened her, and the fact she was stuck in the middle of one made her heart ache. "Please." Her last word was soft - desperate.

Niveus yelled as the enemy mare barreled into him, thrown onto the sidewalk and nearly out of bounds from his proximity to Caligo, which caused them both to have pain shoot straight through them, down to their hooves and into the tips of their ears. Caligo hissed in fury, staring cruelly at the mare who had called out for a 'Delilah', and it wasn't long until a crash was herd and the sound of hooves tearing away. "You handle this." Caligo growled to Arturo who was fighting the large bald-faced stallion, before he started to take off after the hoofsteps that he heard, with Niveus in tow though he was limping painfully and seemingly wished to get away from the small spotted mare. He skidded to a halt as he heard another mare's voice imploring them to stop, and whipped his head around, green eyes narrowing on the champagne mare, his mouth drawn. Niveus turned as well, their manes nearly entangling with one another as the wind howled again, sending shutters flapping and old cloth flickering in the wind. It was an eerie sound, the song of the city, with its hollowed out guts still welcoming the wind which animated it. It truly seemed the perfect ambiance.
But what of this mare. Caligo took a few steps forward, looking at the new attendee of their little gathering, and realized she was one of those that was lost in their last clash with the Bachelors. Her defense of them, or rather defense as he saw it his mind, set his teeth to grind and his eyes narrowed into slits. "What allegiance do you owe these horses?" Caligo snapped, taking a few steps toward her, a snarl curling his lip. "Have you already forgotten your herd, your Unicorns, girl? As it seems they have not forgotten you. You are fortunate that we found you, but we intend to come back with all of those we lost...and finish what we started, as the Unicorns would want us to do." Caligo shivered as Niveus disappeared, as his time was up. He was too drained now to summon him again, but the fire to find Ancaesi burned hot within him. "Give us what's ours." Caligo murmured to Ron, his voice a low grumbling hiss. "And perhaps we'll leave you alive. I'd spare the mare though. There's no reason for her to have to suffer in this disgusting herd of debauchery and treachery." He paused for a moment, his familiar eyes flashing to the spotted mare's crimson gaze. "The other one - this Delilah, though...her suffering is necessary."

Ron locked his eyes on the buckskin stallion. As the other thundered at him, Ron sprung forward, their bodies colliding. He tried to sink his teeth into the other's neck but the force of the collision sent him crashing to the ground, smacking against the hard brick of the alley way walls. He landed on his side with a grunt, now bearing a few scrapes on his lower legs. He did not wish for it to come to this - to fighting - but these Olde stallions did not seem to want to settle it any other way. Ron quickly got himself back on his hooves, shaking himself off. His body ached.
Lilith had taken off after the double of the appaloosa, Delilah was doing unicorns knows what, and Arietti was hopefully still safe in the warehouse.
Then he heard Arietti's soft, innocent voice, yelling at the top of her lungs for them to stop. He looked over to where Arietti was, standing there staring at them bug-eyed.
The appaloosa's voice made his blood boil. His precious double had disappeared now. He took a step towards where Arietti and him stood.
"Delilah has done many bad, terrible things...but she has surprisingly done some good too. She has been with the the Bachelors for many years, she is not yours to punish or make suffer, you will not lay a single hoof on her," his eyes narrowed. "If you really want your captives, then take them. But you will spare Delilah, she is a Bachelor, meaning she is ours. Take Arietti, she is pure and innocent - but for the love of unicorns, spare Delilah."

The enemy stallion lay at her hooves. Lilith bared her teeth at him, eyes bright and wild, her nostrils flaring with every breath. She didn't hear the wind as it shivered through the skeletons of urban decay. Blood thrumming in her ears, louder than drums or bells or the sound of Delilah crashing through a window. For a moment- and only a moment- she considered pounding her hooves into his head, striking at him until the skull caved in, growing soft and wet. But that was a brutality she did not possess. The opportunity passed, and the stallion rose without her hindrance.
"Stop-" She began as he darted away, and Lilith moved to follow, to run him down again and again until he gave up his pursuit... but then Arietti was screaming, grabbing everyone's dumbfounded attention. Don't hurt them, the pearl plead, as though she truly believed she could convince them to spare bachelor lifves. Lilith would have laughed hysterically were her throat not so tight. Arietti couldn't recognize the hate in the appaloosa's eyes, sweet child that she was. She didn't realize that he'd already made up his mind hours, day... maybe years ago. Tears pricked at her eyes as she was reminded of her youngest children. Joan, Matilda, Taavi... such innocent babes, unable to understand that hate didn't always need a reason to fester. Would she see them again? She wished her sister were here. Sheva would know what to do. She always knew what to do.
"This herd is my home." The mare snarled, taking one step forward. She was nothing but a tiny mare with quick, delicate hooves, but it did not matter. Her eyes were wild again, her voice barely louder than a whisper. "If you touch her, your gods won't be able to save you from me. I'll rip your throat out. I'll rip it out with my teeth, and you can pray for them as you bleed out at my hooves, but they won't come."

As Ron crashed into him and on the ground, the drive forced him down too and he scraped his front legs over the pavement, opening the skin. As his legs started bleeding, he scrambled back on his feet, backing away some steps from the bald faced stallion. The bachelor clearly didn't wanted to fight and this wasn't honorable by any means. His scratches quickly closed with the help of his gift and left his skin unscarred, healed and painless. And suddenly Ariettis voice called through the alley.
Arturo raised his head and looked at his herd member, they had found her at least, listening to Caligo's voice. "Caligo is right Arietti." Arturo knitted his eyebrows as he addressed the pearl mare and looked from her back to Ron. "Where is Obscura?" Arturo's voice rasped, "WHERE IS SHE?" He yelled, staring down at Ron, looking over to Arietti and to Lilith. He didn't care about Ancaesi or any Delilah, he wanted Obscura and nothing else. "By the unicorns. If you don't hand her out to me I will sacrifice you all to the unicorns. Every single one of you!" Arturo growled, all his control lost. The last time he had felt this fury, he had been 16 and beaten down Marius. He would even snap the delicate black and white mare's neck. Arturo's eyes flashed at Caligo as he mentioned Delilah and then he understood, Delilah was Ancaesi. Arturo had always been slow. "What do you want with Ancaesi, Caligo?" He barked at his spotted superior as the wind ripped at his mane. "We have other things to do here. She chose to leave. We have Arietti, they have to bring us to Eve and ESPECIALLY Obscura and we are done." His eyes darted back to Ron. "Did you understand my words?" He bellowed, completely ignoring their defending words for Ancaesi. The chimera mare left them almost ten years ago, running away now. She didn't wanted to come back and she was a lost cause anyway. The unicorns had made her leave for her sins and it was better for her, it was the unicorns punishment for her behavior. And this was also Arturo's punishment for the time he had been entangled with her sweet promises. Still, he didn't wanted to harm coming to her.

Quickly, Cael skirted the building, the cold walls moving ever closer as if they threatened to crush her beneath their weight. It made her pelt crawl as the shadows loomed to engulf her, the only noise from the scuffle that lay just beyond the wall. The mare let out a silent breath in an attempt to calm herself, refocusing her mind as she moved further down the passage and finally stumbling into the structure. The wood floor creaked under her weight causing her to slow her pace. The crumbled opening across the room was the only exit and her only chance to make it to the warehouse.
Then she heard the shouting, clearer now as she neared. "Stop it!" it was a mares voice, possible from the pearl captive they had dragged along with them but Cael couldn't be sure. The voice that followed was calmer but harder to make out. Defiantly not that of Ron or the others she had traveled with. Worry swirled in her gut and quickly she passed over the rotten frame toward the opening; peering out into the space beyond the structure. There! She could see them, their forms only several strides away. But, there were others; horses she did not recognize.
Golden eye's landed on Lilith, her spotted silver pelt easy to pick out among the small group. "Stop-" the panic in her voice gripped Cael's heart. It didn't matter who these newcomers were, Lilith was in danger. The shouting then began, pulling the flaxen away from her mate and toward a hulking stallion. He stood over Ron, rage thick in his voice. He wanted the captives. No, he wanted Obscura and he looked about ready to do anything to get her. She huffed, a flick of her tail the only expression of her annoyance. Were Olde really that dull? It would be non-sense for Cain to send the captives to one spot for precisely this reason. This bought of idiocy needed to end.
Gathering her hooves, Cael sprung forward, launching herself from the opening and charging full speed toward the stallion who openly threatened the group. He would be her first target. It took only seconds to reach them and at full speed, the dark mare knew she could do at least some damage. Head down and ears back, her shoulders hit him first as she threw her entire weight into his massive side sending them both flying to the ground. She knew the repercussions of her assault would linger by the next morning but it didn't matter. She had someone she had to protect.

The sound of Kali's hoofbeats was quickly drowned out by some sort of commotion ahead. Wondering if the horse she had been chasing had come this way, the black mare picked up her feet, moving into a cautious trot. While she was not going to abandon the mission that Caligo had sent her on, she would not rush in headfirst, either. That was how her herdmates had gotten injured, or even killed, in the last battle. Kali remembered treating gruesome wounds with a shiver; she had little experience when the fighting broke out, and she had to learn to toughen up quickly in order to keep her herdmates in one piece.
The sound of a mare's voice caught Kali's attention, and her ears swiveled to pick up whatever she could hear. A mare was a good sign; mares in the Bachelor herd were captives, slaves almost - Kali knew that. Unlike in the Olde herd, they were not trained fighters. Which, considering that she was no fighter either, Kali figured was a good thing for her.
Peering between some broken down buildings, the mare's eyes widened as she caught sight of a mare with flame-red mane and tail; that was the horse she had been chasing! Seeing the mare leap into action, Kali wondered why a mare from the Bachelor herd would act so. But, perhaps, she originally hailed from another home. A loner perhaps, or an Exile from before the fires? Either way, Kali decided she did not want to cross the mare. So, taking a few careful steps back, she melded into the shadows, watching the fight.

"What allegiance do you owe these horses?" His snarled words hit her almost as hard as the frightening glare from those green eyes. Never had she seen such pretty eyes look so very terrifying. His stare sent a shiver down her spine and for a moment she wasn't able to answer him, merely listen to his words. They were words fueled by anger, hatred even, words that made her flinch with each syllable. "I hold no allegiance to them." She finally answered, her tone brave and bold though the swishing of her tail and her darting eyes refused to follow the same facade as her voice. "but they are horses still, and they have done nothing to me. I see no reason to spill another horse's blood if it can be avoided." Her blue eyes glanced between each of the horses here. "And I think it can be." Ron was strict, but she knew he wouldn't risk the safety of those mares he was so close to just for one little useless captive like her. He'd let her go if they would agree to peace, right?
Then Lilith spoke up, just as much hatred flickering in her voice as had been in the stallion's. She flinched to hear such a sweet voice so filled with anger. Everyone seemed so willing to jump into a full fight instead of trying to talk things through. They could come to an agreement, a crossroads. They could meat in the middle where both would benefit. Wasn't that better than spilling precious blood? She couldn't help but be stirred by the stallion's mention of Delilah's suffering. Could someone truly be filled with that much hate? "No one's suffering is ever necessary." She argued softly, her voice filled with the pain of the reality that anyone could think such a thing.
Her attention was torn suddenly to the buckskin stallion as he urged the appaloosa to make a decision. She recognized a name, a name she knew well, Obscura. That's right! She knew she recognized him. It was Obscura's new husband. Her heart broke at the thought of them being torn apart so soon after their marriage. "She's not here." She said regretfully, lowering her head as she gave him an apologetic glance. Ari stepped forward, moving her small body in between the Bachelor stallion and Arturo, hoping she could end this useless fighting. "None of the other captives are-" suddenly there were hooves and a flash of black and orange and before Ari could make it out Cael had crashed herself into the poor heartbroken stallion. He only wanted to return his mate to her home. Should that be so much to ask? Ari grimaced, flying backwards to keep from being brought down with them as the two fell to the ground, bumping into Ron in her attempted dodge. No. She had been so close to quieting things down... or at least she had thought so. And now the Exile had come in and thrown herself into a fight that was nearly ended anyways. Why?

Caligo's eyes narrowed carefully on the opposing stallion, sizing him up, the faithless creature that he was. Ancaesi, doing good? The thought caused a laugh to creep up his throat, but it died in his mouth and simply left a smirk on his lips of amusement. "Of course she would fit in here, it's all she's ever wanted since she was a freakish, godless filly." He snarled, rolling his eyes. At Arturo's response, he had to restrain himself from snapping his teeth at him, tearing out more of his mane perhaps. How dare he undermine him before the enemy? "Her welfare is, and never has been, any of your business. You bring shame to Obscura by even mentioning that whore in the same breath." Caligo snapped, before looking back at the horses who opposed them. "Let me be clear. By sparing you, I meant killing you and as such, sparing you the shame of continually creating more heathens to spoil the world that the Unicorns provided us. I have no place to question their divine declaration, allowing you and your ancestors to have this cursed land, however I feel I would be doing them a favor to remove you and your ilk from their paradise." Caligo said, looking critically at her, his eyes boring into her own as if he wished to peel them from her skull there and then.
"Clearly, you have been brainwashed, Arietti." He added as the mare spoke up again, talking about horses and blood. "Or are simply soft, as your gender dictates. Nevertheless, you will return with us, and be reminded of where you came from." Caligo murmured, all but waving her off. However, the next bit of information, he was rather invested in. Obscura wasn't here, none of their captives were. No matter. If Arturo and Kali, wherever that empty-headed mare wandered off to, could manage to bring down the stallion that protected this lot, it wouldn't be hard to continue on and find what they had come for. In any case, Caligo was out for blood and retribution. His mouth opened to speak more, when he saw a streak of orange from out of the corner of his eye, and he flinched backwards instinctively. However, she caught Arturo full on, her rage clear even though she spoke not a word. He thought about the situation as rapidly as he could, for if he attacked the stallion, the spotted mare would surely come for him and two-against-one seemed like it would not go in his favor. He didn't trust Arietti to jump in on his behalf, nor did he think her so far gone that she would assist the Bachelors. He had to do something, though, and as such he let his rage fill him, and he lunged forward directly for the bald face'd stallion's throat.

Adrenaline was helping the pain of the glass shards be all but a dull ache, rather than a sharp searing pain in the soft flesh of her neck, her chest. A flap of skin was dangling from her shoulder, muscle attached to it, but she forced herself to keep running even as the blood flowed and the muscle fought to keep pace as it started detaching grotesquely from the bone. As she caught sight of it, she screamed in horror, and ran faster, though this caused even more pain to course through her. Everything was reaching a fever pitch in her head, and as her adrenaline peaked, she felt everything fall away into blackness.
When she woke up, it was an odd sensation. Somehow, she could see in every direction all at once, a panoramic view of the city around her. Delilah could not hear in the same way that she could before, but it was almost as if she could...sense the sounds. She heard fighting off in the distance, and she sought to move toward it. Her name, her old name, was being screamed in anger. Her brother was there, she remembered, and fear clutched her heart...though she didn't have one. What was she? Delilah tried to inch toward the action, and inch she did, root by root, at less than a snail's pace. Orange-red petals floated around her, and she felt this strange sensation that they were...her and another scream sought to exit her - however nothing came out. She had no mouth through which to scream.

His face twisted with disgust and anger. "They are not here, you fool," he spat at the buckskin. He honestly had no idea where the other captives were anyways, they were off with different groups in the city and each group found their own places to hide. "Do you see them, Olde? Huh?" he shook his head. Arietti's desperate pleas for peace really didn't seem to help much at all and the appaloosa was soon speaking with his ugly, hate filled voice again. His anger was rising too. Each word that they all spoke just fueled the fire. His lips pursed into a tight line. Did this stallion really believe killing him would do the unicorns a favor? He was delusional, he was the brainwashed ones!
Ron stepped forward to speak again but an unexpected burst of flames flew across in front of him and all of the sudden he saw Cael launching herself at the buckskin. "CAEL!" His voice echoed in the alley. This was going too fast for him to register because the next thing he knew the appaloosa was launching himself at Ron just like the buckskin had early. Thankfully he was able to dodged his attack too. "Lilith!" he yelled for his lover's help as he reared, aiming to knock the appaloosa in the head (or at least in the neck) and splatter some blood on his pristine spotted coat.

"She isn't here, you great imbecile." Lilith whispered, echoing the words of Ron and Arietti. She didn't know where the mare was, but assumed she must already be deep within the city, sheltered away in the belly of some rotted building or hunkered down in the tunnels that ran beneath the cracked streets. Obscura was a precious captive, Cain's one-up on the Olde King. She would be protected, kept safe, and that was precisely why Lilith had left her youngest in the friesian's care. Oh, my babies, she thought, chest aching with emotion. At least they were sheltered, not hock-deep in the mess she'd found herself in.
Her ears tipped forward as appaloosa spoke, and then flattened to her neck. She'd no time to respond, however, for in the next instant everything was happening at once. Cael had appeared, barreling into Arturo with the violence of a wildfire, and Lilith had but a second to shout her name before the serpentine stallion was moving past her, flinging himself at Ron's throat. Fear and fury clutched at her stomach as she turned with the Olde stallion's movement and leapt into his wake, craning her long, slender neck in the hopes of catching his flank with her teeth. She'd swore to rip his throat out, and though she had meant it, the gravity of the situation had her stomach in knots. It was one thing to want to kill - another thing entirely to follow through. Selfishly, she hoped that Ron would be the one to strike the finishing blow, if indeed a finishing blow was to come.
A flash of speckled silver caught the corner of her eye. There was another horse on the field, so close that their sides brushed and the click of their hooves echoed in the lady's ears. Lilith jerked her head backwards as the mare... as she, herself, but somehow not - slipped alongside the warring stallions and tried to shove herself between them, intent on catching the brutality of their hooves against her own flesh rather than allow them to continue fighting.
The body double, a mirror image of herself save for her all-white eyes, spoke. Her voice carried up and over the clash of bodies, echoing in the lot. "Enough."
