FIRE.
It licked at every wall, stretching into the sky as if to catch the clouds and set them ablaze. The shadows danced, moving in odd unnatural ways beneath each structure as they stretched out to grab at Cael's hooves. The mare took no notice, her mind racing as she bolted through the maze that was the Fallen City, further and further from her destination. Her heart pounded in her ear, deafening as her step matched each terrifying beat. At any moment, she was sure her lungs would explode through her chest, bringing an end to the nightmare that surrounded her. And yet, she kept running. The shadows around the captive twitched, seemingly reacting to her presence as they leaned in to touch the energy that gathered at her feet. Slowly they were growing, changing, as they fed off the subconscious power that leaked from the flaxen's dark form.
The flames surrounded her now, their intensity growing with each panicked breath that left her mouth. Her sight conjured up misshapen figures that moved just beyond the licks of fire; ones that echoed laughter as she passed. And then, without warning, everything went dark.
Slowly, painfully, the mare came to only to feel a dank wetness beneath her belly. Cael carefully rose, trying to ignore the soreness in her legs as she did so, and looked up at the small ray of light that poked through the wall above. It took a moment to register in the mares still muddled mind until she finally realized that she must have fallen through the rotting wood that covered that section of the street. "Damn it." She swore lightly under her breath, shaking off the pain that pierced her hind leg, and looked around. More light seemed to resonate further down the dark tunnel, perhaps there was a way out there.

The gusting wind was now howling through the streets, echoing through buildings with blown out windows, catching old shutters and slamming them back and forth. It was also catching the mirthful cries from inside one of the buildings and distorting it, twisting it so it was hard to figure out where it came from. Caligo's ears were perked forward to their fullest extent, trying to catch their origin, flicking to and fro in their attempt to pin-point. His lip curled into a wordless snarl of frustration, which threatened to explode outwards if it wasn't so critically important to be silent. As he and Arturo crept, they seemed to locate the source of the noise at the same time. Caligo's olive eyes flashed with triumph and with fervor, the Unicorns had personally delivered these individuals to him. Before he knew it, Arturo was peeling back one of the boards to allow them passage, and glancing back at him with a questioning gaze. Caligo's expression pinched slightly, and he suppressed his waves of rage. The other horse was right, it would do no good to go crashing down there, so what was there to be done? Luckily, the conversation afforded them some time. Suddenly there was a flash of movement though, and the mare went tearing off. Caligo nodded toward another alley they had passed through urgently, and trotted towards it, not fearing the sound of their hooves as the mare clattered towards them. He paused at the mouth of the alleyway and stared the appaloosa mare down, a wicked smile on his face - a smile of pleasure and triumph. Her voice, choked with fear, was precious to him. Caligo mentally logged it away, intending to play it on repeat as he stole the life from her. "Grab her." Caligo snarled to Arturo, already advancing.
'Niveus's' head snapped up, and he paused. He was reaching the edge of his separation from Caligo and pain was running through every nerve at the separation. He was about to disintegrate, however his duplicate had found something exciting. "Continue." He told Kali, nodding down another path, where they had previously heard a crash separate from anything they had heard prior, and in the other direction from Caligo. He strained against the magic, but the pain was unbearable. "Find whoever they are. Bring it back." He said calmly, looking at Kali unlike any way that Caligo had ever done, then turned and disappeared in the direction the others had gone, if only for the relief. Time was coming soon.

With some reluctance he agreed to allowing Delilah and Arietti to stay behind in the warehouse. "Fine, you can stay here," was all Ron had said to them before he took off after Lilith. They needed to find Cael and they needed to find her as quickly as possible.
Coming into the alley way they were greeted with the surprise. Ron's heart nearly skipped a beat. Before them stood two horses; a dark-colored appaloosa and a sooty buckskin. Both were completely unrecognizable to Ron.
Immediately Ron pushed Lilith behind himself, placing himself between her and the advancing stallions. His ears flattened against his skull, lips drawn into a snarl. "I'm afraid I can't let you do that," he hissed at the appaloosa. He looked the other in the eyes. "I advise that you both leave, I have no intentions for fighting - but so help me Unicorns, I will not hesitate to snap your necks," his shot a glare to the buckskin. If things did come to a fight, Ron knew he would not be able to take both of them on, however he could possibly use his gift to his advantage. The thought of what the two strange horses were doing in the Fallen City made him uneasy. The Exiles had returned to their homeland many weeks ago, as had the Olde. So what were these two doing here? Could they be Loners? Ron knew Loners could be wicked things to deal with, especially the thieves.

Kali shuddered as Calligo's strange twin ordered her after the crashing sound. Not only was she being given orders by Calligo himself, but now this strange, empty-eyed creature was as well? The mare felt resentment prickle along her spine, and she had to force herself to hold back a sneer, keeping her expression open and calm. If she thought about it, really this was a blessing in disguise. Kali would be alone, untended by Calligo and his creepy twin. What was to say she had to hurt whatever she came across? Unless, of course, it was a stallion who thought he could attack her. That, Kali had no problem with. Her only concerns were for mares and foals; the innocents. She would not hesitate to rend tears in Bachelor stallion flesh.
Deciding that her course of action would be changed by whatever she found, the mare nodded, turning on her heel and cantering down the roadway. The crash they had all heard was large, and Kali wondered what could have made it. Certainly, not a small animal, so it must be one of the Bachelors. But mare or stallion? A prickly unease formed about Kali's spine as she made her way through the city; she hated the small, cramped feeling it gave her, and the nervous energy that surrounded her due to being in an unfamiliar place. Kali was not a fighter to begin with, and she was alone, possibly outnumbered, and in unfamiliar territory.
Oh please, let whatever she came across be a helpless mare or foal. The farther she ran, the dimmer Kali's enthusiasm about wailing on Bachelor stallions became. Reality was beginning to set in. This was war. Shaking her head, Kali tried to focus her thoughts.
She would have to be ready for whatever she came up against. Setting her expression to one of determination, Kali steeled herself as her hooved began to hit wood, making hollow sounds as she ran.

Grab her, the appaloosa had said, and Lilith's vision had silvered at the edges, fear clutching her throat. But no sooner had she called out to him, Ron was there, steadfast and vicious between them. An ember of love sparked in her chest as his lips spilled violent promises, and she felt safe there at his back, knowing how well he kept them.
She was careful to keep her eyes on them, to resist the urge to look back. Delilah and Arietti were still within the warehouse; with luck, they would remain put, and these strangers would be none the wiser to their presence. Lilith would throw and break herself against them before they so much as touched a hair on Delilah's body. She swore it, let it light a fire in her as her gaze narrowed on the appaloosa's face.
Her heart stuttered. He looked so much like her.
"Who are you?" She found herself speaking before she'd even consented to it, the words spilling sharp and desperate. Her gaze flicked from the appaloosa (just like her, a mirror image, anxiety coiling in her gut, why?) to the buckskin and settled there. His was a softer, kinder face, for however much it mattered.

ArturoIn the corner of his eye he suddenly saw a grey and white horse appearing. It was the mare that he had seen before and now she had spotted them. Arturos eyes narrowed suspiciously as he mustered the arabian influenced mare. Before he could speak, Caligo hissed his command at him and Arturo glanced from Caligo back to the mare that immediately got company and the big, bald faced stallion stood in front of her. They certaily weren't going to leave. He heard other voices in the building and he wanted to know if there could have been captives in there. He studied the black stallion, it was doubtful that they where Exiles. He straightened up, his muscles tense, approaching the stallion like a bull that was ready to charge.
"You are Bachelors." He suggested and his lips bared some teeth as he looked from the stallion to the mare and back to him. His mind traveled towards Obscura before they had been separated, her tiara on her head, they had exchanged one last glance before they had been pushed into war. "Do you have captives with you?!" He growled at the stallion, still not knowing if they actually were Bachelors, but it would have been a too big of a coincidence if they weren't. Anticipation suddenly crawled down his spine, he wanted to punish an Bachelor stallion so badly. Without even getting an order or answer from the stallion, he jumped towards him, aiming for his front leg to force him down.

Each step was placed with precision as the dark mare made her way to the small opening, Cael's heart still racing with the lingering affects of adrenaline. Ears perked, straining to hear anything beyond the dank stone walls and rotting wood that engulfed her but there was nothing beyond the steady drip of water. A small sigh escaped her lips creating a cloud of mist that quickly vanished in the dim space and sending a shiver tickling up the flaxen's spine. Whatever the unicorns had in store for her, she was certain she wouldn't enjoy it as much as them.
The brightness of outside was blinding, golden eyes slowly adjusting to the change as her focus returned to view the street above. The land was lifeless and dead, reeking of the rotten foliage and mold that clung to each structure. It was silent. Taking the moment to look around, Cael pushed forward to stand on sturdier ground and studied the street she had run down. Or at least, she thought she had run down. They all looked the same to her, each corner mirroring the last in a successful attempt to confuser her. Yes, defiantly lost.
After looking both ways, Cael settled on moving right hoping the warehouse and the others were in that direction. If she could reach the edge of the city, at least then she would know where she was. A subtle noise stopped her though, hooves stranding steadfast as she strained to hear the unmistakable clip of hooves against pavement. Were the others out looking for her? Ron would most defiantly be furious when he found out she was gone.

Kali was huffing by the time he reached the giant hole in the bridge. What the? Pulling up short, the black and white overo snorted, eyeing the treacherous rotten boards with narrowed blue eyes. Turning in the narrow street, he trotted a few paces back, then made a second about face, aiming his vision at a spot beyond the broken place, on what he assumed would be safe landing. Picking up a canter, the stallion launched himself over the gap, trying to ignore the murky water that lay beneath his flying body. With a thump, he landed safely on the far side of the gap, cantering off quickly. He assumed that the crash they had heard was made by whatever left the hole...but where were they now? Eyes peeled for Bachelor stallions, he moved unsteadily through the streets. He was at a disadvantage here; he knew nothing about the layout of this city. Even though the Olde horses had a city of their own, it was different. Or, at least, it felt different. Perhaps his mind was playing tricks on him. Either way, Kali was on edge as he searched for whatever had made that hole.
Kali had no idea how he was supposed to find the hole maker in this twisting mass of passageways, so he turned randomly, hoping he wouldn't become lost or stumble onto a Bachelor patrol while he searched. He might not want to follow Calligo's orders to incapacitate the Bachelors, but Kali kept reminding himself that Calligo's orders came from Vasska. Belief in the unicorns or not, Vasska was a wise leader, and he did command respect. And with respect came obedience. How Kali was supposed to follow those orders, he didn't know. In fact, he was about to give up when the sound of hoofbeats ahead pricked his ears. Aha! A lead of some kind. Quickening his pace, he saw just the tiniest flash of red. Maybe his mission wasn't doomed after all.

And then they were gone, causing a dramatic sigh to escape from Delilah, and a narrowing of her eyes. Arietti could not be more boring now, when she wanted to know what was going on with Cael, and wanted even more so to directly disobey Ron's orders. Why? Just 'cause. He was so enticing when he was angry, and it was a curious thing to watch him suddenly stuff it down. "You...stay...here..." Delilah said aloud, to no one, blinking a few times, before glancing over at Arietti. "You better come with me, we're going to go investi-" Her sentence was cut off by the sounds of voices outside, causing the slave mare to press herself against the wall in an attempt to hear. Thrill crept up from a tingling in the frogs of her hooves, spiraling up her legs and clenching around her heart. Delilah's green eyes flashed with mischief - who was out there? A pang of guilt touched her gut and she looked down. Her adrenaline-junkie behavior was going to get her best friend, and those she loved in trouble...but it was so hard to feel bad for more than a minute. They'd survive. Everyone did, that's just...how it went. They might not be happy, but they would forgive her. No one could stay angry at Delilah, it would seem. Well, no one who mattered.
Not bothering to invite Arietti again, Delilah slipped out of the warehouse and peeked her head around the corner, to see Lilith and Ron from behind, standing off against..."Oh fu--" Delilah whispered, perhaps too loudly, before skittering backwards into the warehouse, too fluttered to even bother turning around. Her heart was racing, which she loved, but it was not for good reason. How did THEY get here? And why? Did they know where she was? How? The thoughts were coming too fast now for her to keep up with, and she couldn't shake them out. There was nothing in the world that could draw her out of the warehouse now but someone elses' force, or an assurance that they were gone.

Caligo's green eyes were heavily lidded as the bald-faced stallion issued his threat, and his brows were drawn together slightly. They rolled in annoyance at the other horse's monologue - Caligo didn't care about the other horse's intentions, or his advice. Caligo had Arturo on his side at least, and as such, felt perfectly save. Even though he had no idea of where that silly black overo had disappeared to, now that his double was not with her, he trusted Arturo would seek vengeance for his wife. As the thought occurred to him, Niveus came around the corner, giving Ron the same unimpressed, vaguely disinterested expression. Caligo smirked and his double did a millisecond later, as Arturo flung himself forward at the stallion, however his expression warped into one of sick rage as he saw Ancaesi's spotted face round the corner from the warehouse then slip right back in. Get her. Caligo thought, and Niveus went, attempting to avoid Arturo and the stallion's squabble, but forgetting the presence of the mare that the other had been defending. He barely cast her a second glance, as Bachelor mares were generally not known to be threats. They were too broken down, simply waiting to be freed. Yet she did speak, out of turn he noticed, but the question made him smile in earnest. "Me? Adviser to Vasska, and champion to the Unicorns...oh, and your friend Ancaesi's brother." Caligo then placed his attention back on the stallion, inching toward the warehouse to give his double more leeway for the pursuing of his beloved sister.

"Fine, you can stay here." Came the somewhat hesitant order from the stallion before he and Lilith took off to go find their missing group member. Without a word of argument Ari stepped to the side out of the way, watching them disappear into another alley. Quietly she stepped into the warehouse with the eccentric, confusing Delilah. She had been about to try and make some sort of conversation - formally introduce herself maybe - when the mare began to speak... and then cut herself off just as quickly. Ari watched in complete silence each stage of the mare's discovery, from hearing voices, boiling over with energy, going to look... and then running back in. When she returned she swore the spotted mare looked like she'd seen a ghost. "Is something wrong?" Ari asked softly, approaching the mare with an outstretched muzzle in a gentle, kindly display of comfort. Her attention turned toward the crumbling wall she had just been through. Was there something out there? Were the others ok? Had they been found by enemies?
Suddenly a thought crossed her mind. Enemies for the Bachelors were... friends to her! Her eyes suddenly widened and she felt her heart fluttering. "Who's here?" She asked more desperately, looking over to Delilah as the voices carried to her curled ears. Her gaze was more stern, no longer the sweet friendly little thing, but filled with energy and excitement. "Olde?" She pressed on, taking a step toward the spotted horse. Could it be? Had they come to rescue her? Was she safe? Could she finally return home as she had promised? Too many things ran through her mind and she was so tempted to run right out to see, but she hesitated on the slight chance something else was there. "Delilah." She whispered firmly, trying to keep her tone soft in case they shouldn't be found, but not able to wait for her to reply. She needed to know. She needed to know now!

Olde, they were definitely Olde. The buckskin jumped at Ron and he managed to just barely dodged the attack. From the corner of his eye he saw a blur of spots go past him and first he had thought the appaloosa had taken off until he saw him still there in the alley. For a moment he had a sense of panic that he should go after the double, but he could not leave Lilith here with the stallions and Delilah and Arietti could handle themselves.
"Unicorns," he cursed under his breath. Ron took a few steps back, putting some distance between himself and the buckskin. He tried to distance Lilith from them as well. "Well, I cannot give you your captives," he told the buckskin, preparing himself in case of another attack. He eyed him cautiously. "Champion to the unicorns?" Ron snickered at the appaloosas words and shook his head. That sounded ridiculous to him. Though, most things the Olde said sounded ridiculous. Oh, those silly unicorn loving Olde. Confusion then crossed his face. "Ancaesi? Who in the world is Ancaesi?" he questioned the appaloosa. He gave a quick glance back to Lilith, though was cautious to not keep his eyes off of the stallions for too long.

As Ron dodged away from him, his teeth snapped closed without flesh to meet. His neck low and ears vanished, pressed to his skull he watched the Bachelor stallion, when he glanced a spotted face, hissing as it vanished again. That voice… it sounded way to familiar to Arturo. He raised his head, staring at the corner the mare had just appeared and disappeared. His eyes wandered back to Ron, as he saw Niveus trying to slip past the bald faced stallion and his mare. As he mentioned the captives again, Arturo’s eyes narrowed and hatred clawed up in his throat. „So you have them.“ He hissed, and his head lowered again and just as he wanted to start another attack, Caligo answered the mares question to Arturo’s surprise. He glanced back at his superior, champion to the Unicorns… well it was undoubtedly that he and Jediah were the most devoted members of the Olde, they must be cherished and blessed by the Unicorns. Though as he heard Ancaesi’s name his eyes narrowed. What did they have to do with Ancaesi? Was she here with this group? He knew she had fantasies of the wild and ruthless Bachelors and the thought had always excited her. He remembered that one time they had roleplayed a Bachelor capture….. Arturo shook his head, his thoughts trailing off, why wasn’t he able to focus, it had been always the same with Ancaesi, with her involvement, things just turned chaotic. Though the stallion in front of him didn’t know Ancaesi… and Arturo suddenly realized, who the spotted mare had been. His ears pricked in surprise and he stared back at Caligo. „Ancaesi is here?“ He didn’t know what he was supposed to feel in that moment, he had been lost and relieved when she left. She had drawn on his energy, turned his live upside down, made him question his believes and made him break the law. His heart pounded in his chest, he didn’t wanted to find Ancaesi…. he wanted to find Obscura. His thoughts swirled in his mind, she had left Olde voluntary, she wanted to be part of the Bachelors and would she want to go back? Arturo glanced back at the corner, where Ancaesi just had appeared minutes ago. She certainly was enjoying them, even if they would have abused her, then especially … but. What if she had enough and was desperate to go home? The Bachelors had many Olde mares as captives, but the lastest had been Evalynn, Arietti and his love. He glared at Ron again, he was standing between the mares, him and their freedom. He was a Bachelor and had to be punished, the Unicorns had brought them here together, so they would receive their punishment and their mares could be freed. With a sudden growl, Arturo pressed his hind legs into the dirt and thundered towards Ron again, jumping at him, aiming with his wide spread jaw at the stallions neck, his front legs operating as a ram towards his shoulder.

As the formidable buckskin lunged for Ron, Lilith spooked, darting away with a little buck. The scuffle of their hooves made her heart flutter, a songbird throwing itself against the cage of her ribs. The Summer Fields swam behind her eyes, dark with blood and the corpses of her people. Robin had died alone, her throat torn out. Lilith's throat closed up as the memory turned to a vision. Delilah, dead at her hooves, bled out by this spiteful creature who thought himself a paragon of righteousness.
Niveus' spotted coat caught her eye. He was slithering towards the warehouse, a snake among wolves, and Ron was too preoccupied with the larger stallion to stop him. Niveus scarcely glanced her way. With a savage spark of delight, she realized that he didn't expect her to be a threat.
Perhaps she wasn't. She was dainty and relatively pampered. Her skinny legs had never struck another horse beyond play, and her teeth had certainly never tasted a foe's blood. Fighting, protecting, getting injured in the line of duty... that was what the stallions were for, or so she'd always been content to accept.
But an edge was an edge, and she wouldn't waste it. Even less would she shy away when someone she so dearly loved was endangered.
"Delilah, run." Lilith implored, screaming it, and then she threw herself at the body double with everything she had.
