It was on Ron's shoulders fell the responsibility of keeping the heart of the Bachelor herd safe - or at least, a small portion of it. Cain had given him directions to bring the mares to the Fallen City, stash them away from the chaos of the war, and watch over them for the time being. Though he wasn't doing this entirely on his own, Cain had asked for the broods Lilith and Delilah to help out Ron. Ron was happy to have Lilith and Delilah with him, it would give him some ease over their safety, but he was also unsure and worried about it. It was a double-edged sword for him. On top of those two, he had the brood Arietti and the brood Cael. He did not know Artietti but he knew Cael, who was one of Lilith's lovers. He wasn't on the best terms with Cael but they got along for the most part. Having been to the Fallen City numerous times before, Ron knew his way around, and of course he had some hiding places. There was one particular place, an old warehouse, that he knew of. It was often that he would go to that warehouse when he visited the city. He could recall one particular trip there; one that involved himself, Delilah, Lilith, a confused Exile, and plenty of physical activity. There were a few other groups of stallions leading mares to the city. Ron had hoped to stay close by the other groups, though as they all set out on their journey, he realized that wouldn't exactly be possible. If things all worked in their favor, they would all get to the Fallen City without a hitch. Just as long as the small band of broods listened to him and followed his orders - that was easier said than done, however. It was not terrible weather outside, the sun was shining and there was a breeze that helped with the heat. Ron walked a little bit behind the mares, thinking it would be easier to keep an eye on them if he walked behind. Just on the horizon was the shape of city, the familiar ruins beginning to form. They were close but they still had a little bit to go before they would reach the city. " Let's pick up the pace, ladies," Ron addressed them, moving forward into a trot. He moved up to Lilith and gave her rump a gentle nudge. " C'mon," he chuckled softly. [word count: 415] - [post one]

"Enjoying the view back there?" Lilith called to their lagging leader. She flagged her tail coquettishly, and shot him a distinctive look, all glittering eyes and a coy grin. "Should you really be so, ah... distracted?"
Chuckling, she returned her attention to what lay ahead. She'd found a comfortable spot right between Cael and Delilah, and for some time she'd walked abreast with them, trotting towards the city streets she knew just a little too well. She'd fond memories of of this place, of searching for shiny treasures or squealing girlishly as she and Delilah ran through the alleyways, poor Ron often in hot pursuit. She'd never found a single trinket within the urban decay, but she'd enjoyed every minute of the exploration, the adventure.
To have permission to be here took away a lot of the thrill, truth be told. But at least she was in good company, flanked on either side by dearly beloveds and led by her favorite stallion. Not that she was biased or anything. "It's almost like he doesn't want us to get anything done... and maybe we shouldn't." She whispered into Cael's ear. A flick of her tail had silver curls caressing the flaxen's hip, suggestive - as always. Lilith giggled, and quickly swung her head away before Cael could do anything untoward, like bite her forelock or scowl profusely.
"So... D," She murmured. She caught the mare's eye and quirked a brow, head tilting pointedly towards Arietti. The Olde mare was the only individual on their little excursion that Lilith didn't know... and she was eager to find out more, if the look she was giving her best friend was any indication. "What do you think..?" She asked in a voice that was airy, with only the barest hint of a drawl. The drawl was a habit she'd learned from her sister, back when she was a tender young thing, mimicking everything that the older mare said or did. The 'accent' was charming on Sheva's lips, but Lilith couldn't quite pull off that devil-may-care way of speaking. She'd spent the last few years trying to break the habit, but it would still peak out at times, much to her eternal dismay.

Cael's pace matched Lilith's perfectly, her hips casually swinging with the occasional pump into her silver flowers flank. Their party moved at an even, steady pace over the grasslands, still a good distance behind the others who were headed in the same direction. Occasionally, Cael's gold eyes would glance in the Ron's direction as he followed closely behind the party of mares, his massive form lingering over them longer than the captive would have liked; not that she had a say in any of it. She had never gotten along well with the bachelor despite Lilith's many attempts to amend that fact. It was the silver lady's quick touch that caught her off guard, her small jump of surprise repaid with a quick snort and blush that hide beneath her dark coat. Being in a party of Lilith's lovers was going to be an awkward and interesting experience, to say the least.
The flaxen leaned forward, looking past the chatting lady's to eye the one horse that stood out in the odd coupling. She had spent little time with anyone that Lilith had not introduced to her first and Arietti was no exception. The lone mare felt oddly misplaced in the "extended" family, her quiet demeanor leading Cael to believe she was shy. The captive cast a wry glance toward the flirting broods but said nothing, her mind preoccupied with too many things. Joan had been left back in the main herd, under an assured caretaker that Lilith had so generously found. It only made the dark mare worry more, knowing the crowd her lover hung out with from time to time. Still, she trusted Lilith and tried endlessly to shake the worry from her head.
With a heavy breath, Cael pushed forward to pace herself in front of the others but close enough to keep Ron from getting on her case. From afar, she could see the unshapely ruins forming on the horizon and littering the once beautiful landscape with a minefield of debris.

Somewhere along the line, the Fallen City had come to be somewhat...comfortable. Though it was not the place that Delilah had been captured, she got the same feeling she did as when she crossed the land bridge to start her life anew, nearly 10 years ago now. It was like a snake shedding its skin and wriggling free of an old life. There were so many memories here now, it was familiar. Even the rats were familiar, she realized as a few skittered away after watching for a bit too long. One horse or two, perhaps they could take, but more than that and it became a headache. Delilah giggled to herself and rubbed her side against Lilith, as if seeking comfort from the older mare from the terror that were the Fallen City's rats. She cast a glance back at Ron after he had nipped Lilith's plump rear, and quirked her head slightly. It was a good group to say the least, though it wasn't as thrilling as she would have liked. Delilah was hoping ever so much to go across to the East Island and catch a glimpse of her charming, striped friend and his slightly goofy, awkward spotted friend. For some reason, Naphtali hadn't been the same since a few days after the night at the warehouse, and while he liked to hang around and flirt with the Bachelor mares, any time he caught sight of Lilith or her lover Cael he seemed to amp up the awkward and slink away like a grassbeast with its tail between its legs.
Either that, or to be assigned wherever Brutus was. He was always good fun, her type of fun...or at least half of it. Ron left something to be desired when she needed the masochistic side of her stroked. It completely put her out that he was their guard for the time being, for she doubted she could get enough of a rise out of him to feed the chaos loving beast within. She sighed dramatically, sides heaving. Cael also put her out too, jealous thing that she was. Delilah had hoped for so long to be a part of that, but for some reason that she could never fathom, never got invited. Cael's presence spoke volumes of how boring the day would be, as Lilith was likely to not to poke the Ash Bear that was her grumpy lover. That left only one article of interest left, which was the oh-so-deliciously-innocent Olde 'rescue' as Delilah liked to call them. It seemed that her best friend had read her mind as when Delilah glanced over, Lilith was already looking at her with expectation. "What do I think? Oh, I think lots of things." She murmured, loud enough for the others to barely hear. "But the first is how much I want to nibble those curly ears. I wonder if she's into roleplaying." She added under her breath, before slipping away from Lilith in an attempt to get closer to her newest quarry.

The gusty wind teased the young mare's golden locks, pulling some strands out of their braids to dance around her neck. Her tail, in its messy bun meant to keep it from dragging, was held just a tad upright, though not nearly as high as was the usual for the pretty Arab mix. Deep, ocean blue eyes gazed down at her dainty little hooves as they picked their way along and as a result her nose continued to drop lower and lower the less she thought about the world around her and where she was going. Her curved ears flickered here and there at the different sounds of the other horses with her, but mostly just to be sure she stayed with them, not so much to listen to their words. They could have been gossiping about the unicorns living underground and she wouldn't have heard a single word. Her mind was busy... busy with worry. The bachelors were wanting to get revenge for what had happened in the last war, this she'd been aware of for a while. What worried her though was how they might do so. Her father would fight for Olde of course, that would never change... but what if he got hurt? What if he was... no, she couldn't bring herself to even think such things. To lose her father... she didn't think she could take that kind of heartbreak. She had to continue to hope for the best and pray that the unicorns would defend those who honored them. Please, she thought, stay safe. I will return to you, I promise. If only her words could be carried to the one family she had left.
She very well might have worried through the whole trip, withdrawn within herself, unaware of what was gong on around her. She didn't know any of the horses she was with and at the moment didn't have any motivation to get to know them. Still, it was beside her to refuse a conversation if someone attempted to start one with her, she just wasn't going to be the one starting it, not today. Her attention was drawn momentarily from her inner thoughts when she realized a body moving her way from the side of her eyes. Afraid she might have missed something important she lifted her small dished head and offered a polite - but rather distracted - grin toward the spotted mare... well, half spotted. She'd seen her around in the herd. One couldn't miss such a uniquely colored horse after all. She wasn't the stalker type so she hadn't paid much mind to what the mare was like, though she did remember noting that she seemed quite peppy and in general happy where she was. Even though Arietti couldn't fathom why any mare, or even stallion, could desire to stay here, she wouldn't allow herself to judge anyone who did. She suspected she would never understand them though. Blue orbs swept over the rest of the herd quickly, scanning for a sign she had missed out on some important piece of information while she was busy worrying. "I'm sorry," she began politely, her voice soft and sweet, like a young child's. "Have I missed something?"

With curious ears he listened to the broods, giving Delilah a questioning glance when she moved from Lilith to get closer to Arietti. "Play nice," he told her. His gaze shifted back to Lilith and remained on her for the most part, admiring the view of her rump that he had. He held back the smirk that dared to show.
He thought about how the kids were doing. He knew Vashti had gone with Ghost and two broods to help out the Exiles, and Iscah was with another guard and some broods on their way to the city as well. The younger ones were with trusted caretakers, some he knew were already in the city. He was glad he wasn't off with the other groups of stallions who were sent to fight. Ron was much more content leading the broods to the city.
As they got closer and closer to the city, he could swear he heard some voices, which he thought were likely from the other Bachelors in the city. The other guards and broods were likely getting close or even at the city already. "Delilah, Lilith...you two remember the way to the warehouse, yes? We will be heading there, I believe it is one of the safer parts of the city for us to be in. Not many know of it or know how to find it."

"She won't know until she tries..." Lilith purred in Delilah's wake, content to watch the leggy mare's endeavor from afar... for the moment, at least. Cael's nerves were already simmering; if she was going to risk bringing them a boil, she needed a good reason. Arietti was cute and had the most delectable little ears she'd ever seen, but Lilith wasn't sure if the Olde-born had an interest in Bachelors. She wasn't even entirely sure that Arietti's door swung both ways. Delilah had told her horror stories about the northern herd and their restrictive customs. She understood that Delilah was a delightful little exception to the rule, and suspected that Arietti was not. Straight until proven interesting, she decided, and saw no reason to investigate when Delilah was going to do the work for her. If she was wrong - if the precious little chestnut was interested - she might have to reconsider poking her ash bear.
It seemed that just as her thoughts turned towards Cael, the mare lurched away from her, outpacing them one length and then two. Lilith was seized by a split-second of absurd paranoia: Horod's hoof, she read my mind. The silver lady's eyes widened until her better sense reared its head, and she tittered at herself, shaking her head so that her multi-toned curls bounced across her withers. Ron had asked them to pick up the pace, and Cael had acquiesced... the only one to do so, in fact. Lilith didn't have much intention of doing the same, and if Ron didn't like it, well, he'd just have to nudge her rump a little more wouldn't he?
Speaking of backsides, the view had just gotten a lot better. She studied it shamelessly, watching the captive's tail whip like fire in the wind, her strong, lean legs eating up the ground, her lovely rump--
Did she hear voices?
Lilith frowned as her concentration shifted from admiring Cael to listening to their surroundings. Yes, there was certainly prattle coming from... if not nearby, close enough that her sensitive ears could pick them up on the wind. She didn't recognize them, which had her stomach knotting. Perhaps they were simply too far away for her to pinpoint a face to... or perhaps they weren't Bachelors. It was a paranoid thought, almost as silly as believing Cael had read her mind. Olde horses wouldn't be lingering here. They were hock-deep in Bachelor territory.
And yet...
Her ears flicked backwards as Ron spoke. The warehouse, was it? Yes, she supposed that would be a good place to hide everyone for the time being. It had been relatively rat-free during her last visit. "Of course I remember. The place is so near and dear to my heart." She laughed, but some of her usual mirth was missing. Those voices were giving her a terrible feeling. "Darling... Cael, could you wait up a moment?" She called. She glanced over her shoulder to look at Ron. Of all the horses present, he had known her the longest, and she trusted that he would understand the look she was trying to convey: stick closer.

For the most part, Cael realized, she was being ignored; though it bothered her very little. She was used to doing things alone when Lilith was not beside her, content to simply make her own path toward wherever they were going. The biggest problem here was, she didnt know where they were going. The Fallen City had been no more than a speck on the horizon since her first hoof-step onto the East Island, its carnage of debris always too cloaked in uneasiness to allow her any chance of drawing near. Now, with large misshapen shelters closing in around them, the air was quickly becoming heavy with dread.
The captives ears twitched as she felt the slight breeze from Lilith's mane caress her back-end, her nerves slowing getting the better of her as they seeped into her dark pelt. The voices that had started as whispers were quickly becoming louder, bouncing off the stone walls that towered over the horses heads. It could easily be another group of bachelors, one they had trailed behind for most of the shorty journey, but could it also be something else? A soft snort left Cael's nostrils as she tried to shake off the odd feeling of being watched by more than just the broody Ron and her silver lady a few steps behind. Sadly, it was failing.
The sudden sound of a snapping twig made the dark mare halt in her tracks; forgetting how closely the others followed. Not even Lilith's gentle words had reached her ears as she stood tense in the ever growing city around her.

Delilah had no idea the plethora running through the mind of the once-Olde mare, the complications at home, her desire to return - and frankly she didn't give much of a care either way. Her mind had one track, and she would ride that train until it broke down. At the invitation of the other's small, nervous smile, Delilah's heavily lidded eyes batted a few times and she arched her thin, finely muscled neck toward the other mare, putting her face just a little bit too close for most others' comfort. "Miss something? Oh, no...I don't think so." Delilah said with a grin and a slight purr to her voice. Vaguely, she thought she remembered young...Arietti, Delilah thought she heard, from the Isle of Olde, back when she was an upstanding citizen there. Back then, they had both been fillies and she hadn't been nearly so interesting. "I had this craaaaazy idea though. Why don't you and I--" Ron's voice easily overpowered her own hushed whisper into her fellow slave's ear, and she shot him a look that offered violence for doing so, her lips pressing into a thin line of hatred.
To the warehouse it would seem. Delilah's head snapped up to attention, away from Arietti for a precious moment, as she sought around for it. It was easy enough to find, and she set her sights on it. Back to the mission at hand...except someone just. kept. TALKING. In disbelief, Delilah bored holes in the back of Lilith's skull, until suddenly Cael stopped suddenly. Delilah couldn't roll her eyes quite hard enough to express her feelings for this moment, so she merely danced around Cael's still form and took the front of the herd, her ears perked for whatever was so damn interesting. Nothing...except. A mischievous grin curled on her lips. Oh yes, those were certainly voices - male by the sound of it, and they did not sound pleased. Delilah couldn't spirit herself away fast enough. "Let's find them." She said in an excited whisper-shout to the others. The Olde herd hadn't crossed her mind - they were a distant dream and she couldn't see their righteous hooves crossing the landbridges again. No, certainly they had to be Bachelor stallions, and could only be a more interesting bunch than this. But...
"Let's play a game, shall we?" She said, a ball of nervous energy, popping back to Arietti's side, giving her withers a playful little nip. The look in her eyes gave away all unsavory intentions she had, at least to those who could recognize it. "We'll race to the warehouse. If you win, I'll leave you be...and if you don't, I get a taste of those curly little ears of yours." She added under her breath, her expression now utterly ravenous. "I'll let you be Cain even. Who will I be?" Delilah said as she dashed off, thoroughbred legs carrying her at high speed through the obstacles of the city. "I'll be...me! Yes, that sounds perfect."

Wide blue eyes blinked softly when the mare moved so very close, though it didn’t bring much of a reaction from her. After all, not too long ago she was the bright bubbly thing that was always in other’s faces. Even if she didn’t have quite that much energy anymore, she didn’t have a very big bubble at all. She almost let out a visible sigh of relief when she was told she hadn’t missed anything. The last thing she wanted to do was miss out on something important. This whole war thing was a big deal after all. “Oh…. I’m glad.” She replied softly with a slightly less forced smile. If she wanted to get out of this – and who knows, maybe even escape – she was going to have to pay more attention. She couldn’t afford to get distracted at this point. For now she would have to push aside her worries so that she could be ready for whatever chances might come.
Her curled ears flicked in curiosity at this spotted mare’s odd behavior. She seemed rather irritated by everyone else’s conversations, as if they were interrupting something very important. She was curious as to what it was she had been about to say though when she’d been cut off, but it seemed she would never get a chance to ask her. Soon everything seemed to just… well not quite fall apart, but the relaxed walk had certainly come to an end. The dark mare who had been leading the way came to an abrupt stop, and afterword everything else seemed to follow quickly. First came the voices, muttered sounds that had been heard by others before, but only just noticed by the distracted pearl mare. Then suddenly Delilah had exploded with energy and excitement. First running in front of everyone else and then suddenly returning to her side. Ari was so very confused by everything that was going on, and her confusion only multiplied when she announced a race and then took off. Wait… what? She was acting like some young foal the way she took off so joyously. Ari was both confused and envious of how she could be so carefree in this event. Cain? How can I be Cain? Now she was completely lost both by her words and her actions. Before she knew it her curiosity had driven her legs forward, carrying her at a brisk run after the odd mare. She wasn’t so much interested in winning the race, as she was hardly competitive, but more she hoped to get answers to the hundreds of questions that ran along inside her head. “Wait, shouldn’t we be concerned about the voices?!” She called as she ran after Delilah. It was lucky for her she was fast on her own long, slim legs, but fast enough to catch up to a Thoroughbred mare with a head start? That was to be debated.

The body language Lilith was giving off aroused concern in Ron. He gave her a nod to let her know he understood her message. "Stay close," as his gaze swept over the group. Their nerves were not hard to pick up on. They had all heard the voices, the sounds echoing off of the looming city buildings. "This city is dangerous, I do not wish to see any of you inj-" he stopped himself, a little startled by the abrupt halt Cael made. His brows raised in concern. "Cael, what troubles you?" he asked her. And then his attention was brought to Delilah, hearing her excited whisper of "let's find them".
"I swear to the unicorns, Delilah, this is no time for games," Ron warned, eyes narrowed. "You can goof off when we-" and then she was off, sprinting through the city streets with the Olde captive in tow. His jaw clenched. "DELILAH!" Ron barked, his voice echoing off the buildings. He looked to Lilith and Cael before he took off after Delilah and Arietti, his large frame thunder through the streets after them. Of course he was angry, he was supposed to keep them all together safely and bring them to city, not have them running off! He certainly wasn't the fastest horse, and Delilah's thoroughbred blood certainly gave her aid in that department, but he had stamina on his side.

Lilith had the misfortune to be behind Cael when the mare hit her breaks. The resulting collision was as comical as it was inevitable: there was a crash, a yelp, and quite suddenly both mares found themselves on the cracked concrete, legs entangled and Lilith's curls in her face. The lady fleetingly forgot about the voices and the terror writhing in her gut. All she could really focus on was how much her leg hurt, caught between Cael's bulk and the punishing asphalt.
She would forever remember this moment as the only time she came into contact with a rump and didn't enjoy it.
"Cael," She hissed, flicking her forelock from her vision and giving the mare a pointed shove with her hoof. "Why on earth did you stop?"
But then Delilah was racing past them, pretty long legs devouring the street, and Arietti- bless her- rose to the thoroughbred's bait. Lilith was not surprised; her best friend was foolhardy at the best of times, and she had a way of luring others into her mischief. Perhaps the victims fed off her energy, eager to get caught up in her enticing, reckless attitude... or perhaps she just had a Gift for it. Either way, Lilith appreciated the magic she could work... most of the time.
Now was not one of those times. Lilith still had a bad feeling deep in the pit of her chest, and of the group she worried most for Delilah, thoughtless as her friend could be. The chimera attracted trouble like a magnet, and the echo of her hooves reverberating through the city would certainly attract something. "We have to catch them." She whispered breathlessly, heart in her throat. Ron had already decided the same; she felt it as he whisked by, heard the thunder of his gallop. Lilith turned wide eyes to Cael, and then together they untangled, lurching to their hooves.
"Go!" She told the flaxen mare, knowing well that the captive could outpace her. Perhaps between Ron and Cael, they could catch up to Delilah before the voices ferreted her out. "I'll catch up."

It took a long moment for Cael to realize just what had happened, coming to her senses on the rough ground as sharp rocks dug into her heel with Lilith beneath her. The flaxen breathed for a moment, mind heavily racing as she tried to figure out what she had missed in her absent nervousness but was quickly drawn to the sound of hooves clicking off into the distance. Delilah, apparently, was not patient enough to wait. Golden eyes fixed on Lilith, momentarily locking into place with both a questioning and apologetic look. It was rare for the mare to ever feel so flustered but something deep inside her chest was pulling her back, away from the thickness of the Fallen City that now surrounded her.
Just as she was about to apologize to the silver lady, another thundering voice echoed followed by the heavy gallop of hooves against pavement. The rush of wind pulled the breath from Cael's lungs, leaving her more confused than ever and even more nervous as she watched Ron run after the other mares. Lilith seemed to mirror such feelings, a slight panic in her voice as she abruptly rose to follow, calling Cael to do the same. There was a moments hesitation, as the captive tried to gather her thoughts as to what exactly was going on in all the chaos; Delilahs gleeful laughter still echoing off the walls around them. As the air quieted, the flaxen finally found her feet jogging to catch Lilith and then promptly matching her pace. "There is no way I'm leaving you alone in this place." Her voice was breathless, as if she had just sprinted across the island and yet floaty as if still caught up in a waking dream. Not only was she not going to leave Lilith alone in this mess, but she knew hide nor hair of this place. They could be anywhere.
Cael allowed her ears to swivel, glued to the lady's side like a foal on her first randevu. Things rarely spooked her but this place... it had an eerie glow about it; something was not quite right. She could still hear the faint giggles of the mares, and the occasional gruff voice of Ron as they bounced off the oddly shaped rocks. The whispers she had heard earlier now had quieted but still caught her ear like a soft breath. Hopefully, the others would wait for them or this would turn out to be a long night.
