Bracing for impact Sev listened to Cholena's words. Only, they were instructing and kind. At the assigning of his new job he felt determination well up inside of him. He nodded with a firm "Yes Ma'am." and wheeled around towards Rylynn. The grullo also lifted his spirits, using sympathetic words. He smiled and followed Rylynn to the trees.
"Sev hurry! We have to pile as many trees as we can on that thing when it's down in the bank!" Rylynn yelled.
"Yep! Got it... But Cholena told me to tell you that you gotta meet her at the pile so the Quiver Back catches scent of your blood. That way it will follow you into the death trap." Sevastyan called back.
He quickly got to work. Adding more and more trees to the pile, he hoped this plan would work. During the piling of logs, he glanced around nervously, unable to spot the Quiver Back. The others must have it distracted, somewhere. He continued on his way, trying to get as many trees on the pile as possible, still waiting for the signal to push them down upon the Quiver Back.
"Come on Sevastyan. Just keep getting more on there. We gotta crush this thing." Sev whispered to himself.

[Ghost//Bachelor Elite//Stallion]
The stallion was hardly paying attention to the conversations going on around him, as he was much too focussed on the quiver back. Rocks began flying towards the beast as Khala joined the fight, and Ghost did his best to stay out of her way to ensure she got in a few good clean shots. From behind him, the spotted stallion heard Cholena's voice as she piped up with a plan.
"Ghost.! Khala.! Lead the Quiver Back down the river.! We'll bury it under the trees there.!" The stallion didn't even get the chance to look back, as the massive creature swiped a paw across his cheek. Stumbling back momentarily, he regained his baring, flashing Khala a look that let her know he'd heard the pony's plan. Though he didn't like the fact that the smaller creature was ordering him around, he knew she had a solid plan.
Lashing out with his hooves, Ghost managed to make contact with the creature's nose, watching as blood spurted out as he crushed the soft flesh. The quiver back let out a mighty roar, enraged by what had happened. Turning to run, the silver stallion called back to the chimeric lead mare. "Khala! Can you use your gift to keep him going in the right direction? We can't afford for this beast to get distracted!"
Bucking, he kicked out at the creature once more as it grabbed a hold of his tail. He winced as fangs sunk into his rump, pulling away only to feel his flesh tear from his body. As blood oozed down his leg, the stallion was reminded of his last run in with a quiver back. It only made sense that he wouldn't walk away unscathed. He continued to run, limping some as he did. "Come on you foolhardy beast!" He screamed at the creature. "Is that really the best you've got!?" His heart pounded as he raced down the river bank, looking up towards where the others were preparing for the massive quiver back, hoping they had the strength to to do what they planned.

Rylynn furrowed her brows slightly, feeling somewhat torn before giving a nod to the stallion. "Alright." She huffed, "Roll as many trees down as you can when it comes!" Without another word, Rylynn galloped back to where Cholena stood at the bottom of the ravine, tossing herself down with a quick leap and landing not far from the mare. Regaining her footing, Rylynn cantered to Cholena's side and reared a bit, hoping to help with drawing the massive Quiver Back down the slope. Thank the unicorns, they were almost done getting rid of the foul creature! Though slight relief hit the brood, things weren't over yet, and it certainly wasn't the time to celebrate.
Watching as Ghost charged down the bank, Rylynn couldn't help but hold her breath in anticipation, inwardly praying that the beast would be led down and crushed under the trees. We can do this... We'll be fine. She reassured herself, furrowing her brows in a determined manor. This had to come to an end, and soon. And she could only hope that it would be killed under the weight of the trees. Rylynn suddenly found herself voicing her thoughts, "What if there aren't enough trees to crush it?" She murmured, a somewhat frantic tone to her voice, "What if it gets out from under them!"

Cholena | Exiles | Scout
Lena was thankful that everyone had followed her plan. She was no leader, and she held no high position of authority, but they listened. A sigh escaped her as she shakily stood, water lapping at her fetlocks as she waited in the water. She heard Rylynn and Sev stack more and more of their felled trees on the edge of the hill, the lady brood eventually leaving the rest of the task to the exile before heading to her side. Lena could see the panic in her eyes, nostrils flaring in anxiousness as she stood there, blood dripping from her coat.
"What if there aren't enough trees to crush it.? What if it gets out from under them.!"
Lena frowned, and with a quick glance at Ghost who was charging like a bat out of hell towards them with Khala and the beast in tow, she turned to the mare beside her, "Rylynn, I promise you it'll be okay, even if the trees don't kill the beast, it will hold it long enough for us to flee to the beaches and lose it."
The pony smiled, gently pressing her nose to the other mare's shoulder in a comforting way. Her mothering instincts managed to always touch more than just her daughter, and Lena looked at the slightly younger mare. She had probably never left the Bachelor Herd, she had probably never seen a beast of this size. She was scared, frightened, and all the emotions that Lena felt when she was attacked by grass-beasts all those years ago. Lena was saved that day, saved by the love of her life and now she needed to save someone. She would save them, she would help and try her damnedest to do so.
"I'll promise you what I promised Eila," she said, the small mare a picture of determination much larger than her size, "I promise to keep you safe for the time being. I won't let anything hurt you, not more than it has."
The scout slowly positioned her frame blocking her pair, eyes locked on the destruction and chaos behind the spotted stallion. For once in her life, Lena felt strong; she had always let everyone down, herself included. Everything in this situation caused images of her life, vivid memories flashing in her mind - Hok'ee's bloodied face, Camehwait's lonesome wails, Dawne's cries of sorrow and terror, and even her own screams of despair when she was enslaved on the island they just returned from. That kind of sadness should never happen, and she wouldn't let it happen here, "....I won't let anything hurt you, again."

Meandering in the river, most of Vashti's attention was focused on keeping up with Dawne, who had the attention span of a darting minnow. Thus, she didn't react the first time she heard the adults raising their voices on the bank; they were probably just arguing again. It wasn't until the word "quiverback" drifted on the breeze and down the bank that Vashti froze, listening. A quiverback? How exciting!
Ghost was yelling his plan to lead the younglings and others to safety, and then she heard Khala releasing a battle roar and saw her charging towards the bear. Dawne was panicking, holding back sobs. Her mother, the brood Lena, went off to help fight the bear.
Then an idea came into Vashti's mind. She didn't want to run and hide, she wanted to prove herself and fight too! She was a golden mare after all, she would be apart of the infantry in a few years...well actually, more than a few years, but never mind that.
With everyone else distracted with what to do, Vashti took that as her moment. She went bolting up the river bank, running towards the Quiver Back. Luckily it was focused on Ghost, thus distracting it from her as she came charging it at. She released her own battle roar and launched herself at the bear, barreling her little frame into it.

Eila | Slave brood -------------------
This was working, this was working.
Hastily, Eila clamped down on her burgeoning excitement; she was far from safe and now was definitely not the time to let her guard down! Especially with such a large and dangerous predator nearby. Speaking of the quiverback... Eila took one of her many pauses, straining her ears to discern the sounds, to sort them and make sure she was still undetected. No one seemed fussed about her absence, and no one seemed to be coming even remotely her way. Breathing out a measured snort, Eila began walking carefully away, the direction the Exiles had come from. Eila didn't know if they'd accept her or not, seeing as how it would enrage the Bachelors, but even if they didn't, they would probably let her at least exist on their land as a Loner. Maybe. It was worth the chance.
She was farther away now, and judged it soon that she'd be safe enough to break in to a trot, with the ash to conceal her passage. Eila stopped again, looking over her shoulder towards the group and trying to ignore the situation she was leaving them in. She wasn't any use anyways, a short mare with a club foot. At least, that's what she kept telling herself, as she began to turn away again. Briefly, the swirling dust cleared in front of her. Just briefly, but it had been enough for the squinting fjord to see a small, dark form hurtle past, in the direction of what Eila knew was the beast. That wasn't... no, it couldn't have been-
Although the dust was chocking her vision again, there was no mistaking the thin, fierce roar that filtered through the air. Vashti.
Eila's heart stopped. Surely... surely one of the others would stop her, would protect her... And anyways what did Eila owe the bratty little golden mare, who had done nothing but poke and tease.
But if Eila's mind was still hesitating, her hooves were not, and the stocky dun had broken in to a canter by the time she passed through the shrouding dust and back in to her midst of the herds. She felt more than saw Vashti's- silly, brave Vashti- collision with the quiverback, and ice coursed through her veins.
"VASHTI!" Eila whispered, except it wasn't a whisper, it was a battle shriek, with her ears flat against her neck and her lips peeled back to reveal bared teeth.
The beast had staggered and then whirled, more annoyed than anything at the filly's onslaught. It turned towards the youngling with a rumbling growl, eyes flashing.
"HEY!" Eila screamed at it, rewarded when the eyes swung to her, distracted from the vulnerable Vashti. The quiverback was looming as Eila's traitorous hooves carried her ever further from freedom. "HEY," she shouted again, a desperate bid to keep it from Vashti. But the beast had turned back to the sprawled filly, and with a scream of denial, Eila put on a burst of speed, leaped clear over Vashti, and crash landed in to the beast, unable to keep her hooves even if she wanted to. Snarling more akin to a predator than a horse, Eila sank her teeth in to the animal's flesh as she went down.

At Cholena's gentle touch Rylynn let out a relaxed huff of air, quickly calmed by her reassurance. "Thank you." She murmured, giving a small smile toward the mother of Dawne. The brood couldn't help but find a new respect for this mare, she was so calm, so dauntless, so protective. "You're a good horse, Cholena." The brood nodded before turning her attention back to the monstrous beast before them, however it was only when the other mare mention Eila did her ears perk and her curiosity spark. Where was Eila anyways? She had barely seen her this time, and surely she hadn't be sent back to the Eastern Isle had she? With narrowed eyes she craned her neck around, searching for the dusty red brood through the clouds of ash.
Suddenly, Rylynn whipped her head back around at a shrill, and familiar, little voice. "Vashti!" She screamed at the youngling, almost in sync with Eila, horror in her eyes as she forcefully rammed into the Quiver Back's hind. What on earth was she doing!? Without a second thought, Rylynn charged up the bank at an unstoppable gallop, teeth bared and head low in a snaking manor. To her surprise, Eila had began attacking as well, her teeth sinking into the Quiver Back's flesh with zero hesitation. And it was a good thing too, they needed all the help they could get right now.
Mimicking the other brood, Rylynn sank her teeth into the beast when she forcefully crashed into it, her awkward and sudden halt sending dust and ash into the air, making both her and the Quiver Back choke slightly. As it turned to face her, the grullo struck out her hind hooves, kicking him sharply in the head with a crack, and when it stumbled back slightly she dove out of its next attack range. Now, she was focused on Vashti. She slid to the younglings side and gave a hard snap to the filly's rump with her teeth, "Get back with Dawne and Maori!" She snarled, abruptly shoving the golden mare back towards the bank, "And stay there young lady!" She couldn't believe this. The effort of everyone had been wasted by the feisty little brood, and now it would be far more difficult to corral the enraged Quiver Back. She could only hope that once this was all over, Ghost or Cain would give her a mighty scolding.
With rage, the bristling beast stood up on its hind feet, extending its head out slightly, before letting an aggravated roar escape its jaws. Rylynn gave a rear and gave a sharp neigh back before charging at it head on, using the little weight she had in her shoulders to make the creature away from the youngling, and when it lumbered back she took her front hooves and rammed them into the soft flesh of its belly. It gave a loud snarl before taking a paw and knocking the brood back with a pawful of long claws, causing the already injured horse to stagger and fall to the ground, bloody claw marks now stretching across her neck and a clump of her ivory mane ripped from its roots.

MAORI | EXILE | MEDIC
She hadn't expected the pony mare to be so determined of giving her filly to her, giving all the responsibility of taking her to safety in her hooves and throw herself into even more danger by throwing her for the claws of that beast, to make him rumble down the bank.
"Maori, please get the younger ones to safety. You're right, the safer place is not down here, but she needs protection more than I. If something happened to Dawne I would never forgive myself."
Maori smiled a bit uncertain, but when the mare had spoken out what she wanted and turned herself to Dawn to speak to her and say a short goodbye, she smiled of determation. "I would give my life to keep her safe,'' she spoke to Cholena. She wouldn't let anything get near the filly. Dawn had gone through enough in her short life.
With the ribben now tied around her neck and Cholena took off towards Ghost and Khala, she was determined to not only get Dawn, but also get Vasthi into safety. She made sure her body was at the side of the pulling stream, so Dawn would have less resistance of the water to walk through, and started to walk, determined to not stop walking until both of the fillies were up on the bank, or even farther away from what happened. She shortly looked over her shoulder towards Sev, smiling doubtfully, but than turning her head forward and walking slowly, but steady through the river. She felt the stream pull at her hooves, but the strenght of it was no were near strong enough to pull her over. And now that her body walked next to that of Dawn, she hoped the filly didn't feel much of the pulling.
She tried to make her voice less fearful and less panicky, and when she spoke, she even bashed herself with how calm she sounded. ''I will take you to safety Dawn. Just like how Khala will keep your mommy safe,'' she said with a soft smile on her face. She softly nudged her nose against Dawn's grey neck. And that was when it struck her. She had done everything on autopilot, not thinking over things, but just doing them because there was no time to think. But now that she was alone with Dawn, she suddenly felt so heart broken from the inside. She had a lump in her throat, her mouth suddenly so dry from the ashy air around them. It could have been her own filly, at her side...
With tears forming in her eyes, she softly shook her head and with that the thought of her mind. This wasn't the moment, she thought to herself. When she picked herself up back together and turned her head to once again look at the fillies, one of them was gone out of her sight. She suddenly stopped walking and looked over her shoulder, there were Vasthi was already running up the beast and made even more chaos than the chaos that was already happening. She couldn't help her, not from here, and she had Dawn at her side; she couldn't do anything with the filly's life given in her hands. She couldn't risk Dawn's safety over Vasthi's, even though it broke her heart.
Thus she decided all that she could do, was call out to her. ''VASTHI, COME ON OVER HERE,'' she neighed loudly, while she with that same determined step walked further through the stream, almost getting to the bank on the other side; leading atleast Dawn into safety.

[Ghost//Bachelor Elite//Stallion]
Ghost galloped onward, heading towards where Cholena and the lady brood stood. Just a few more moments and they'd be rid of the beast for good. Then he heard it. The tiny but fierce battle cry of a youngling as Vashti charged at the creature, throwing her insignificant weight into her blow. Just as quickly, Eila and Rylynn were were on top of the quiver back as well, screaming and fighting to protect the young idiotic filly. Could nothing go right? Rearing up, Ghost wheeled around on his heels, running straight for the creature as Eila viciously attacked it. "NOT ON MY WATCH!" He roared, leaping at the creature in an attempt to push it away from the mares and regain it's focus and wrath. He watched in horror as the beast swung a heavy paw at Rylynn once more, knocking her down into the shallow waters."Eila! Get Vashti and Rylynn out of here NOW!" The spotted stallion's voice was filled with irritation and rage as he rammed his full weight into the creature, knocking it off balance as jumped away, taunting the beast in an attempt to get it to follow him once more into the trap the others had carefully laid out for it.
The spotted stallion glanced at Cholena as she stood in the middle of the river alone, dauntless and full of fire, waiting for the creature to catch the scent of her blood as it oozed from her wounds. The warm, sticky liquid matted her fur and trickled down her legs to mingle with the water below. Using his gift, Ghost vanished, darting toward the river bank and racing toward the pony, intent on getting there before the creature even had the chance to get close. Cholena might be the bait, but Ghost wasn't about to leave her defenseless. The quiver back looked around in confusion before finally catching the scent. Blinded by hunger and rage, the quiver charged toward the injured mare, sure she would be an easy meal.
"Sev! Now! Push those trees now!" Ghost called up to the other stallion, watching from behind the little mare as the massive beast drew closer to the spot the trees would fall.

Sev had a look of astonishment at the little Bachelor filly, foolishly running into the Quiver Back. The other two bachelor mares caught up to help defend the brazen foal. Then Ghost joined the fray, determined to keep his herdmembers safe. They had the beast chasing them now, and Sev continued to watch in anticipation. They had gotten the beast right below him, but he still looked to Ghost's signal for fear of messing it all up.
"Sev! Now! Push those trees now!" The large spotted Elite called to him.
Without hesitation Sevastyan reared up, and practically jumped on the logs. They tumbled all at once down upon the beast and Sev came crashing down with them. Once the trees landed on the huge monster, Sev quickly scrambled off of the pile, landing in a muddy embankment. He sat there in the mud, looking at the death pile with wide eyes. There was no movement, but one could never be sure.
"Do you... Do you think it's dead?" Sev asked anyone willing to answer.
He tried to stand up, but one of his front legs gave out, still a little stunned from the fall. Falling back into the mud, he noticed all the scratches he had attained. Blood slowly ran down his body. Looking at where the Quiver Back was, he waited fearfully for his leg to start working again.

The small mare sighed in agonized relief. It was over, the moments passed by tensely as they awaited movement from the pile. A single paw was outstretched, and the still limb suddenly washed over a sense of guilt on the pony. She was taught all life had meaning, and they had taken one. She knew there was no other choice, and she knew that if she was prompted again, her decision to slay the beast wouldn't have changed. And yet, she felt sorry for the creature, only trying to survive in the desolate wasteland that the Exiles had abandoned to find a better, more suitable home. The Quiver Back had no such choice, or luck, and was left behind to starve and die. She didn't questions its intentions, but that didn't mean she couldn't feel sorrow for a death.
"Thank you," the chimera nickered softly, eyeing the stallion that stood near her. She never thought there would be a day she would thank the Elite, but because of him and his cooperation, they were safe, Dawne was safe. The mother slowly scanned the area - the great pile of logs crushing the beast, water trickling out of many crevices, horses injured, scared. She saw Maori with Dawne still tied to her neck, the three broods together trying to assess damages. All the energy rushed out of her, adrenaline no longer forcing her body to move and survive. She felt weak, but now that everyone was safe, she allowed her legs to give. Her small frame splashed into her water, the mare taking comfort in the cool water that washed over her as she lay on her belly.
She didn't realize how tired she truly was until she say still for that moment; everything went silent, muffled, and she felt numb. It was probably due to blood loss, she knew this, especially since many of her scars were due to traumatic instances such as this one. Lena let out a shaky breath before trying to force herself up, but her shoulders shot down pain like lightening striking the ground. Biting her lip, she sank back into the waters, eyelids heavy as she stared at her own scarred knees.

Vashti's attempted attack on the Quiver Back had backfired on her. The youngling went sprawling, crashing into the ground. Of course she had angered everyone else, hearing them shouting at her and giving her looks of anger and dissaproval. Rylynn and Eila came to her rescue, both broods moving in front of her to shield her from the sharp claws of the bear. Vashti scrambled away to safety as both broods went to attack the bear. She ran to where Maori was, ears flattened against her skull, head held low. She watched from safety as the adults continued their attacks on the Quiver Back, leading the bear into the river with the intent of crushing it by rolling logs down the riverbank. With all their teamwork, the plan worked out, and the Quiver Back laid in the river with a bunch of logs crushing it. Vashti was a bit shocked but also pleased. Now she would have to deal with the adults scolding her for her actions. She knew her dad was going to kick her ass once he found out about the stunt she pulled. Well, at least she had gotten her short ten seconds of fun. Vashti glanced around the group, unsure of what to do now. The logs were supposed to be used to line the riverbank, but instead they were now on top of the Quiver Back. Were they done their job here?

"What happened, why are you shouting at Vashti?" The filly whipped around like she was looking at things, but could not see. Things, things were just moving so fast. Then there was silence, one big crash and silence. The heavy breathing of the other filly told Dawne that Vashti was back to being right beside her. The filly walked up to the older one and quietly began to clean the grime off of the other filly's coat while she waited for the all clear signal. Anything to occupy her.
Then it was given and the foal tentatively took a few steps towards, what sounded like from the odd way the water flowed, a small pit or ravine. She picked up the dank scent of dust and coughed before then picking up the scent of metallic liquids. She began to nose her way around, having left Maori. The river wasn't as strong here so Dawne was doing fine. That scent though, so harsh to her delicate nostrils. She made her way farther downstream to where she finally bumped into someone. That stallion she'd been brought to by Lena earlier. She smiled up at Ghost and asked, quite innocently considering all that had happened,
"Where's my mom now?"

"What happened, why are you shouting at Vashti?" The little blind one asked.
She stayed silent for a few seconds. What had Vashti just done? Something incredibly stupid, she thought. But she wouldn't say that out loud. The little filly shouldn't have to worry as much as one with eyes would. ''Vashti was brave and wanted to hel-'' before she could finished her sentence, loud noises cut her off.
They'd almost been at the other end of the river, ready to climb up the bank, when the huge beast crashed into the water and ended with all the wooden stumps upon him. He disappeared under the ashy, death trees and for now, all of the life seemed to be suck out of them, seen from the lack of any movement from the pile. She was a bit shocked by what she had just seen; everything had happened so quickly, that it had just went by her. All the hurt ones, the panic, the little ones had to be safe. Holding her breath she quickly looked next to her, and luckily she found an out-of-breath Vashti next to Dawn. She smiled from relieve, but than went back to worrying and looked over to the other horses. Her eyes found Rylynn down in the shallow rivers, Elia standing next to her. Than she found Ghost, at the side of Cholena. The body of the small pony mare had given in to her wounds, and had given in to get down in the river's water beneath her.
It was than when little Dawn tucked on her neck, and the ribbon's knot got loose. The little filly walked carefully towards the scene and she decided to let her, but to make sure she arrived safe, she slowly walked after her, making sure the filly was within a step's reach.
All those wounded once, and she being the only one with the skills of healing. She felt as if she couldn't breath for a moment, and than she realized she hadn't seen Sev in the whole bunch. Her ears turned anxious. He had been above the hill, throwing the logs down when Ghost signed him. But where was he now? She quickly scanned the area, and than she found him; he was just about to fall back into the mud, after he called out to the others. A worried look filled her face; but when she saw he could still lift his head, she knew there were bigger wounded once around her she had to tend to first.
It was than when she arrived at Ghost and Cholena. She looked down at the pony mare and how she tried to keep her eyes open, but how her lids kept closing them. This wasn't good. She quickly eyed to Ghost, who had little Dawn at her side. ''Ghost, we have to get her up and out of the river. If she stays here, her wounds will keep on bleeding because the water won't let them close up. And when she keeps on bleeding...'' her voice starved away in the ashy, bloody air around them. She looked at the stallion in desperation. She felt helpless. So many who were badly wounded; she felt so bad for not being able to help them all at once.

His leg buzzed from the shock of the fall. His scratches were pretty minor, and had stopped bleeding already. Besides being a little tired, he had fared better than most. A twinge of guilt crossed his mind. Everyone else could be half dead and what was he doing? Sitting in mud. Sev thought again, well it's not like I can get up at the moment... still... it's pretty lame of me.
The time ticked by as everyone stood around, trying to take it all in with a somber, non-adrenaline run, attitude. Sev scanned the area, trying to spot everyone. Counting off names in his head, it was clear that everyone was more or less okay. Then he spotted Maori... and Cholena. He cringed at the battle wounds covering Cholena's flank, continuously seeping blood. He tested his leg, and now that the shock was gone from it, rose to his feet. He waded through the lazy current, towards Maori, Cholena, and Ghost.
"Well, now what do we do?" Sev tentatively asked the stallion. "Most of us took a pretty good beating from... that.. that thing."
His own words echoed in his ears. They all had killed that stupid Quiver Back, together. Pride for his herd, and even for the Bachelors, welled up in his heart.
