[ Khala | Exile Leader ] The Bachelor took little time to step forward and greet her head-on. Ghost raised his roman nose proudly, and addressed her as one of his rank ought. "We are here to fulfill the promise our leader, Cain, has made to you and aid you in restoring and reclaiming your homeland." Oh? Was that so? Khala's ears perked forwards curiously, and her golden gaze narrowed ever so slightly to size this horse up. Was he being sincere? Did Cain actually wish to send this party here to help them, or were they just the distraction? That stallion always seemed to have something up his hoof. . . "My party isn't much suited for combat, but I'm sure there's something we can help with." Again, Khala's ears flicked back, returning to her guarded, pensive posture. Taking a moment to turn to her companions, the leader quickly assessed their feelings based on their body language and expressions. Maori was reserved, but the way she kept her eyes on Khala suggested to the mare that she was awaiting orders, though she seemed relaxed at the sight of the small band of mares in tow behind the massive grey. Cholena, on the other hand, was tensed and did not look eager at all to be facing her old herd mates. And there was little Dawne, cute, precious little Dawne, reaching out in friendship, innocence bared, and complements ready. "We are at your service, for the time being that is."
Khala turned finally to fix Ghost with her steadfast gaze, his nod of respect an appreciated gesture, and a meaningful one, if she was at all observant of his actions. There was much to consider before the Leader would simply consent to the presence of these outsiders on her land. For a moment, she wondered if she could pull off such a thing as keeping more of their precious broodmares, as they had taken one of the Exiles before., but quickly wrote the idea off. She would not stoop as low a blow as an eye-for-an-eye. It took time for her to respond, as she was trying to glean as much information off of the group as possible. Her knack for Observation made that fairly easy, and she inevitably came to the conclusion that they were sincere in their actions, whether she was happy about it or not. She did not at all enjoy the fact that they were here, but she wasn't about to turn away four prime laborers from their cause. If they simply took a look around, they could see that. It would be folly. . . At least one of them was here and willing to be of service, these rowdy broodmares on the other hand. . .
"I cannot deny that we would be grateful for your help, and it is just, given how much support I and my herd have given you in the past. Take heed, Elite, I need no help in claiming what is rightfully mine, and no debt will be between us again after this day. We were finished long ago being pawns in your game," she finally spoke, raising her head to stare Ghost head-on. She meant none of this as a threat, simply a friendly warning. If Cain thought he could use this later, he would be sorely mistaken. . . "So long as you are here and at our service, I will accept it, as it is." With another pointed glance at the mares behind him, she added, "If you try anything, our alliance will be abruptly," she stamped a hoof to emphasize this point, "ended." [ post 3 - 599 words ]

[Ghost//Bachelor Elite//Stallion]
"Hey! I remember you guys! You're herd lands were quite pretty when I saw them. Are you here to make ours pretty too?!"
Ghost smiled a bit as the little filly popped out from behind her mother, her forelock flopping haphazardly in her face as she spoke. "Aye, indeed we are little one." He said, his gruff voice softening as he spoke to the child. The spotted grey filly reminded him of his own daughter who was currently under the watchful eye of the brood Bat Sheva. So giddy, naive, and full of hope. Silently he hoped either youngling wouldn't lose that as they grew.
As the stallion went to turn his attention back to Khala, he noticed the filly's mother. Cholena. The little brood had run away a few months ago, and had been presumed dead. Ghost stared at her for a moment, rather impressed that she'd managed to slip into the Exiles ranks without being detected by the bachelors. She was a fighter for sure. He snapped his focus back to Khala as she began speaking once more.
"I cannot deny that we would be grateful for your help, and it is just, given how much support I and my herd have given you in the past. Take heed, Elite, I need no help in claiming what is rightfully mine, and no debt will be between us again after this day. We were finished long ago being pawns in your game.So long as you are here and at our service, I will accept it, as it is. If you try anything, our alliance will be abruptly, ended."
"We are here only to repay the debt, as Cain is one who keeps his word. I agree with you fully, once we leave here today, our herds are finished. The debt ends here. I will inform Cain of your wishes upon my return. As for now, we will help in any way we can." He paused for a moment, glancing back at the spotted pony who stood nervously behind the leader. "Your terms, I believe are quite fair. The horses who stand with you now are yours, and I have no intention of breaking the tentative alliance we have by trying to drag any of them back with me. They are all Exiles, and that is the way it should stay." He nodded as he spoke, attempting to put the Exiles at ease. It wouldn't be good to ruin relations with the Exiles now especially since proving they could be useful allies. Looking down at Khala coolly, he began speaking once more. "Our broods our yours to command, and I am at your service. Just point me in the direction I can be of most use. There is obviously much to be done, and I believe we've wasted enough time with idle chit-chat."

Eila | Slave brood
------------------
With one ear on Ghost (constant vigilance, always, always) and the other twitching irritably in time to Vashti's squeals, Eila was quite distracted and thus slow to ascertain the approaching Exiles; she had only a fraction of warning when, so attuned to Ghost's body language, she noticed his sharpened attention. Nostrils flaring as she finally took in the new horse's scents (all of this choking dust dulled the senses) Eila felt a sharp tug of anxiety, deep in her gut, though her face remained still. What now?
But of course, she quickly realized they were Exiles, not more Bachelors. She was just jumpy. Get a hold of yourself.
Eila halted with the rest of her group, and although she kept her head lowered, bushy forelock concealing her gaze, she listened avidly. You could never, never have too much information. Something, the mare thought in exasperation, Vashti had yet to learn- the youngling was still kicking up her heels in total disregard for the proceedings. It didn't make her herd look good, and for a moment Eila felt a vindictive sort of pleasure at that... but it faded quickly as she considered the logical conclusion of her herd losing face. Ghost wasn't an unnecessarily violent stallion, nor one who seemed to take pleasure in degrading the mares, but... if he felt embarrassed enough, or if word got back to Cain that the broods had caused problems... Again, Eila felt a twinge of anxiety, and, despite her desire to stay unnoticed, she couldn't help herself.
"Vashti," she hissed through gritted teeth, under the rumble of conversation between Khala (for of course, she knew who the chimera was by now, and Ghost), "Vashti, come here."
However, even distracted as she was by trying to save the hides of Rylynn, Vashti and herself, Eila did not miss Ghost's last words to Khala. "Our broods are yours to command."
Like so much property. Suddenly, Eila found herself unable to meet the eyes of the Exiles not out of a desire to unobtrusively listen, but out of shame. Shame for a wasted life.

Cholena | Exiles | Scout
At her daughter's outburst, Lena hushed her, the shushing sound harsher than she would've liked, but hopefully she got her point across. Slowly, she slipped from her daughter's red lead, letting it fall to the ground momentarily as she set a hoof forward, "Dawne, stay put for Mama; I'll be right back by your side."
Slowly, she left her filly close to the other Exiles, stepping forward as she saw Ghost eye her with interest. She knew that the young infantry stallion that tried to stop her escape wouldn't speak of her, especially since she evaded him after injuring his leg. She had been missing since the throes of war, and she had no doubt she was an unexpected face to see. Coming to Khala's flank, blue eyes stared up at the Elite as he spoke, offering their aid. Her eyes narrowed, but she didn't linger on him for long. Instead, she focused on the mares near him, all of them familiar. Although she didn't know them personally, she knew of each of them: Rylnn, Vashti, and Eila.
Their lowered heads and trembling bodies, pulled at her heart, well, except the golden mare that is. She was a freer brood to the herd she lived in, but her life was full of contradictions and for that, Lena pitied her. Staring at Eila as she hissed at the younger mare, Lena caught the authority of Ghost, her ears flattening as her former sisters' did as well, "Our broods are yours to command."
Lena snorted, the sound scoffing at the bachelor stallion. Her glower didn't waiver as she boldly took a step forward. He had claimed he wouldn't try to take her back, and now that she was free of his grasp, she had courage. She didn't care if she spoke out of turn, or that she might be biting off more than she could chew, but she needed to say something.
"Your broods," she spat the word venomously, sarcasm in her tone, "Are mares who have feelings and pride, and I won't stand for you to speak so lowly of them on our homeland."
Carefully, she walked past Khala, possibly overstepping her boundaries but it was worth it. The mare treaded lightly as her hooves sunk into the ashen earth. Her eyes softened as she reached the closest mare, Eila, Lena lowering her head to look into her hidden gaze, "Eila.?" She nickered softly, blowing a comforting huff out of her lungs, "Would you care to help my daughter and I today.? I promise to keep you safe for the time being."
The chimeric pony offered a small smile, one of sadness and guilt; she had left them, she had left every herd sister she had in order to escape. If anything, she wanted them to feel equal, to feel free, if even for a few measly days, she wanted to help them out of the darkness. She had no doubt that their minds were as barren and lost like the island they were standing on; and like the island, Lena wanted to help these mares too, as much as she could before they were ripped away from her.

Her mother's swift shush and push made Dawne feel the slightest twinge of betrayal, she was only trying to be friendly. She quickly recovered though and kept her smile, even though she was now hidden behind the bulk of the group. She sighed. A sharp venomous voice reached back to her ears and Dawne instinctively flattened her ears and backed away from the front, suddenly fearful until,
"Is that mamma?" Her soft voice cracked a bit, she spoke in so low a whisper. Not to anyone in particular, but so soft her mother wouldn't hear. She didn't want to hurt the mare's feelings in any way. Not her mommy. Never her mommy. She stayed put though, not wanting to get mother angry, it was never that Lena spoke to Dawne with harshness, unless she were scared. It hurt, but it was understandable to the filly.
"Are there any foals with them? Maybe we can work together to patch up the banks so they don't collapse, or to make a little camp ground for us to sleep with moss laid on the ground so we don't choke on ash." The filly spoke excitedly, finally thinking of a job she could do and would do without a doubt. She smiled with certainty and lifted her head up to the horses in front of her, forelock flipping out of her face and showing a hopeful smile and peaceful, relaxed expression. Her ribbon had been dropped, she could tell now. It was limp. She felt an immediate disconnect and frowned, her happy demeanor falling into unrest. Lena had let go of the filly's ribbon, that never happened. Something strange had happened and Dawne had no reason to understand it. So she promptly stepped forward, towards her mother and ran smack into one of the poor horses in front of her.
"Ooof!"

While the Exiles and the Bachelors made their greetings, which was dandy and all, Vashti was still chasing the rabbit and having some fun on her own. She tossed her head and laughed, making the occasional buck or leap.
Although it was faint, Vashti heard Eila hissing at her to get back. Vashti slammed on the breaks, her feet slipping out from underneath her in the process. She crashed forward into the dirt and released a loud yelp. When the dust settled, she quickly bounced back up onto her feet, a mess of grass, dirt, and ash on her pelt. She snorted, looking over to the forming group of Exiles and Bachelors. Her sides were heaving and she breathed heavily, but there was a grin plastered on her face.
She cocked her head in curiosity, looking at the Exiles that had approached them. There was one mare who stood out, the buckskin chimera. She could have sworn she had seen the mare before...never mind, she didn't really care.
Vashti trotted her way over to join her fellow Bachelors again, going to stand by Eila's side. "Whaaaaaat? I was just having fun," she giggled, flicking her curly forelock out of her eyes. She looked at the buckskin chimera approaching, watching her as she addressed Eila and spoke. "I'd like to help you out too!" she piped up once the chimera had finished.

[ Khala | Exile Leader ] "We are here only to replay the debt. . ." The leader listened to his words closely, making sure to note everything as he said it. If there was even a glimmer of a lie behind what he said, she would catch it. ". . . Cain is one who keeps his word. . ." Khala had to hold herself back from loosing an annoyed snort. At least the Bachelors still held some honor, even if they had hurt her herd (and stolen her best friend) in the process. It was irritatingly ironic to her, and a short flick in her ears indicated this to the group. ". . . they are all Exiles, and that is the way it should stay." You're darned right, that's the way it should stay! All the hypocrisy from their past, and who knew what would lie ahead in the future- but all they had to deal with was the here and now. And, as Ghost soon pointed out, the here and now required more attention than they were giving it. ". . . I believe we've wasted enough time with idle chit-chat!"
"I couldn't agree more-" Khala began to speak before noticing that the small chimeric form of Cholena had moved ahead of her and was approaching one of the broods behind Ghost. The spotted red mare had averted her eyes, out of shame? The leader could only guess, but that was the first observation she made and she couldn't help but feel confident that it was accurate. "Your broods are mares who have feelings and pride, and I won't stand for you to speak so lowly of them on our homeland!" Yes, Khala also felt pity for the mares that stood before her, for their lives had been taken away from them. They were forced into this bondage. . . no matter how long the Bachelors would side with the Exiles, this one thing would always be unforgivable in her eyes. Mares held just as much- if not more - power than stallions. Sure, they had to fight harder and train longer, but the results were worth it in the end. She, herself, was a living model of this equation, and look how far it had gotten her. But, no matter how strongly she felt about this, Khala could not let this disrespect to her and the Elite slide by.
"Cholena," came her firm tone, "no matter how much - or how strongly - we disagree with another herd's way of life, there is never a reason to be disrespectful to someone of a higher ranking. It's something that sets us apart and holds us higher than those who simply seek vengeance." The little mare had had a harder life than most, and from what the leader understood, she had only recently left the herd that stood in front of her now. If anyone deserved to feel wronged, it was probably her. . . Khala turned away from them now to again face Ghost, her gaze hard and cold, as if daring him to try and add to her scolding. She would talk to her again in private later. "Now," she began again, turning towards the group as a whole, "we have work to do!" As she had been assessing the land already, Khala formulated that smaller groups would work wonderfully in this instance, and taking into consideration what the precious Dawn had inserted, she decided what to do next. "The river bank is not far from here, and if we ever want water to return to our home in abundance, we need to be sure that it stays in the banks and that all this debris stays separately as well. There are many trees charred from the fires that remain standing, and they need to be removed. I want these trees lined up along the banks as a wind barrier. If you can, take mud and twigs to fill in the gaps. It will be messy work. Dawne, and you-" Khala pointed to the younger looking brood with an X scar across her brow, "feel free to work on the bedding area and making the mud. Cholena and Eila, if I heard correctly, you two can follow them and begin working on felling the smaller trees." Keeping those four together seemed like a logical decision to her, as it appeared the elder brood was looking out for the younger one. "As for the rest of us," she turned to her Exiles and Ghost, "We begin the harder work with the larger trees and rolling them to the banks. Let's get to it!" [ post 4 | 751 words ]

[Ghost//Bachelor Elite//Stallion]
"I couldn't agree more-" Khala's words were were almost immediately cut short by the small but fiery Cholena.
"Your broods are mares who have feelings and pride, and I won't stand for you to speak so lowly of them on our homeland!"
Anger grew like a wild fire in Ghost's eyes as he glared down at the tiny mare, his ears flat against his neck. How dare she speak to him that way?! How dare she cut off her own leader in the process?! Bowing himself up, he prepared to say something to Khala about the matter, when, much to the stallion's surprise, she spoke up unprompted by him.
"Cholena, no matter how much - or how strongly - we disagree with another herd's way of life, there is never a reason to be disrespectful to someone of a higher ranking. It's something that sets us apart and holds us higher than those who simply seek vengeance."
The chestnut chimera's strong voice carried an authority that caught Ghost off guard. Good. At least she was willing to deal with the insubordination of her own herd members. Eying Cholena angrily once more, he turned and nodded to Khala, his fury quelled for the moment. He'd stand back and bite his tongue for now. The little mare had been corrected, and she'd do well to keep her thoughts to herself from here on out. If she lashed out at him again though, Ghost wouldn't hold himself back. They were here as a favor, repaying a debt as instructed by Cain. That didn't give the Exiles a free pass to walk all over him, or his herd and their traditions. He wasn't going to stand for it.
Ghost listened as the lead mare delegated tasks to the broods, sending Vashti and Eila with Cholena and her young foal. Something about that just spelled trouble in the old stallion's mind, and he made a mental note to keep a close eye on them as he worked. Khala's voice rang out clearly as she continued assigning tasks. "As for the rest of us, We begin the harder work with the larger trees and rolling them to the banks. Let's get to it!"
As the rest of horses dispersed throughout the immediate area, Ghost took a few steps closer to Khala. "We are here to help, not to be berated by your herd members." His voice was low as he spoke. "I have been civil, and will continue to be so, but if there is another...incident..." He said the word slowly, emphasising every syllable as it left his lips. " I will not hesitate to put an end to it myself. I have respected your conditions for this tentative truce, I only ask that the same courtesy be extended to me and mine." Hints of anger and irritation intertwined with his words as he spoke, staring at the mare with his icy blue eyes for a moment before walking off towards one of the larger scorched trees. The sooner they took care of this mess, the better.

Cholena | Exiles | Scout
Lena simply stood where she was, staring at the older brood as she refused to acknowledge the sister that left her. Ghost's threats meant nothing to her, he may have been a higher rank, but he was no longer her superior. The small mare wasn't violent by nature, but she was protective (overly so) and had a strong desire to help those who couldn't help themselves. However, Khala's words stuck with her a little more than the brute's, and the chimera turned to look over her shoulder at her leader's face.
"I apologize, Khala," she said softly, words sincere, "I did not mean to disrespect you. Forgive me, as my feelings towards these mares are strong, and my emotions have made rash judgements."
The mare lowered her head and flattened her ears in submission, wincing at the familiar feeling it gave her. She hated having to live under the command of others, but she knew Khala was right. If they were to work together, she would need to watch her tongue. Watching for her leader's approval, she finally raised her head, eyeing the draft stallion with an unreadable expression, eyes holding a coldness that matched their color.
"Please forgive me, Elite," she muttered as courteous as she could, using his "title" to hopefully appease him, figuratively being the bigger horse in the situation; as he stormed away to do his work, she let out a weary sigh. She hated confrontation, but living under his hoof for so many years could only stay cooped up for so long. Again, she looked at Khala, obeying her orders and confirming with a slight nod.
"Yes, Khala," she affirmed, slowly turning to Vashti who eagerly offered her assistance. Lena smiled brightly, knowing that the youngling would be great company for her little filly, "Come this way, Eila, Vashti, I'll introduce you to Dawne and we may get started."
Another warm smile hit the mare's face as she turned about face to head back towards her band, although she stopped next to Khala, the mare pausing momentarily to voice a small concern, the whisper barely audible except to the ears it was directed to, "Do not let our guard down, Khala...I fear that all may not be as it seems. The words of a Bachelor must be taken with a grain of salt."
Quickly, the whispering pony flashed a smile at her chimeric leader, but her eyes held the warning she gave. As she walked back to Dawne, the mare thought of the trickery that landed her in the Bachelor herd to begin with. The soothing lies of a stallion led to her demise, she wouldn't allow that to happen again. Shaking her head, the movement sending her black curls across her back, she rid her dark thoughts. Now was a time of rebirth and growth.
"Dawne," the mother called, nuzzling her curious filly as she gently gathered up the red ribbon that lay limp, "This is Vashti, she's a bit older than you, but she's very kind. Mama is going to have you and her work together while she works with Eila. You'll follow Vashti for the afternoon and help with the mudding and patching."
Looking at the golden mare, she offered the crimson lead to her, awaiting her response. Should she agree and slip the ribbon around her neck, Dawne would be in her hooves for the time being, and Lena was putting much trust in the older filly to guide her own carefully.

Dawne put a faint smile on her face, her run-in with the horse in front of her had left her only fazed and now the small filly extended her nose, softly touching her mother's neck and then bumping over to Vashti, taking in the scent of the young mare. The dark black pits of her face seemed to be burning, "Mamma, before we start can I have my second ribbon, I think I'm getting sunburn." The soft skin around her eye sockets and her scars was quite prone to burning and the filly didn't want her exploration to be itchy and painful.
She lifted her head up to Vashti smiling kindly, her happy grullo face alight with excitement,
"Which would you like to do more, I think doing the river bank first might be more tiresome but fun. Then we can clean up in the river and do the bedding last. So then we can go to sleep first or have time to explore!" Dawne loved exploring and all, but it wasn't always first on her mind, since oh. Well sometimes she got lost and she got into enough trouble with her own adventures anyway. She didn't want Mummy to snap at her again.

The Bachelors sure have raised the energy of the place, Sev thought to himself. He had backed away from the group, as all of their conversing, yelling, and bickering had made him nervous. He was here to help, even if that meant being in a large group of horses, but nonetheless, it still made his nervous. He had, of course, been listening to them and seeing if any of it applied to him, but removing himself had been a must if he were to keep his head on straight. Khala barked orders and the Bachelors, albiet rather grudgingly, listened, much to his surprise. Sevastyan needn't be told what to do, for even though he was a ways away from the group, he had already started working. He had pushed down a couple of trees already, and was working on getting the second one to the banks. "Everyone is so on edge." The dark bay stallion remarked to himself. Luckily, no one seemed to want to bother him. As long as the excitement stayed over there, he was content to work on the land by himself. He rolled the long charred log into place with one last shove. This was a strange day, Sev mused, but it certainly isn't too bad. (210 words)

Eila | Slave brood --------------------------
As Cholena pushed her way forward and began to lay in to Ghost, Eila gave an involuntary jerk of surprise, yellow eyes flicking from the diminutive mare to Ghost and back again. She recognized Lena, now. Vaguely, they hadn't traveled in the same groups but of course, all the broods remembered the names of those who escaped.
Despite herself, Eila felt a spark of triumph, and hope, proof standing in front of her that successful escape was possible. But of course, she herself had been free for five glorious years... before she had been returned to this, all due to bad timing, illness, and a golden mare. And so the Eila suddenly felt the hope recede, replaced by anxiety once more. Careful, please be careful, she wanted to plead to Lena. Don't risk falling back in to this, your freedom can be taken away again so easily...
But then Lena was there, right there, beside her, and Eila froze. Fear spiked in her gut; and both ears flicked to focus solely on Ghost- if repercussions were to come, she'd have to be ready to move, and quickly. To Lena, she said nothing; after all, it was not for her to accept an assignment, without Ghost's consent. Tense, she waited for the backlash.
But thankfully, it did not come. Or rather, was diffused by Khala, and Ghost let it be. Once again Eila was grateful that it was Ghost accompanying them, rather than a more temperamental stallion. Issac, or Brutus... they would have knocked Lena down swiftly, and probably Eila along with her. She repressed a shudder, listening to Khala delegate. A strong, self-assured and capable mare. And free. Eila didn't even know her, but she knew then, that if it came to blows Eila would fight with the Exile leader. She would not be taken, as Cael had been, however "willingly". Not that, the mare admitted grudgingly to herself, she expected such behavior from Ghost. Like he wants to have another difficult mare in tow, anyways.
Consent given by Ghost and Khala, Eila silently followed Cholena, glancing back to make sure Vashti was following and hadn't raced off after another rabbit. Assured that Vashti was on board, for the time being, Eila hesitated, then awkwardly made her way towards a slender, charred tree. She didn't want to be accused of not following orders; that never went well for a brood. Eyeing the husk of a tree, the appaloosa lifted a hoof and gave it a tentative shove.
Ow.
No, not that way. Especially with her aching club foot. Well, she was stout, if short, mare. Arching her neck, Eila leaned her shoulder against the trunk and began to shove.

MAORI | EXILES | MEDIC
Even though she really tried to find him sincere, she couldn't find the gut to believe him. She held her guard up, but knew she wouldn't, and actually couldn't, do anything about it as long as Khala was there to keep an eye out for that Bachelor brute. She snorted softly when the tasks were spoken out and let her eyes glide over the now rather large accompany she was in. It was than when her eyes caught Sev and how he had already started working. A small smile cleared up on her face and she decided that it might be a good plan to do just that. She felt most at comfort at the stallion's side, maybe just because he was so introvert, maybe just because she was so too. It made her feel comfortable, and at her place, and thus she decided he was the one she wanted to have at her side when working.
When Khala and the Bachelor stallion came into movement, she did so too and separated herself a bit from the others and chose a tree just aside of the one Sev was working on. She looked at him for a split second, but she didn't wanted to bother him with silly socializing when he didn't feel anything for it. She just smiled friendly and than focussed on the death tree in front of her. The bark of the tree was completely black, burned to death, covered in ashes. She softly shook her head to get her forelock a bit out of the way so she had the feeling she could see more, and than started pawing at the tree with one of her front hooves, but apart from creating piles of ash-dust, there didn't happen much. The tree was rather large and her pawing didn't make it move at all.
She snorted out of frustration and bowed her head down, thinking of how to do this was the best way. She turned her guarding ears shortly against her skull, while she turned her hindquarters towards the tree. She stayed there a few seconds, seeming to trying to regain power, and than bucked out to kick both her hooves against the tree. A loud cracking could be heard, but the tree didn't break nor get down. With a sigh Maori turned back to the tree. Maybe next time she had to choose a tree that was more of her size. And maybe doing this messy was the only way of doing this. Thus she stepped forward and pushed her slim shoulder to the tree and started leaning into it. There was finally movement, but not at the speed she would've liked seen.

Vashti looked from Cholena to Dawne, then at the ribbon. There was hesitance but she gave a nod and accepted the ribbon. She stepped a bit closer and with Cholena's help the ribbon was slipped on around her neck. The youngling had little idea what she was getting herself into and how much responsibility came with having to lead around a blind foal. She looked at Dawne with curiosity. Lookin at the empty sockets where Dawne's eyes would have been was a bit...unsettling to look at.Vashti flicked her ears back. "Let's just...umm," she glanced to Cholena and then back to Dawne again, "we can go to the river bank first."
She looked at Cholena. "I'll uh..take care of her," she told the mare. She then gave a light tug at the ribbon and turned around. "C'mon," she mumbled to Dawne. She was not entirely clear on what they were supposed to do, as she had not been fully paying attention. Fill the banks with twigs and other things and use the trees as some sort of barrier or something, that's what she got out of what Khala said. Seemed simple. Obviously her and Dawne would be useless with helping to move the trees.
She lead Dawne towards the bank of the river.
