Sevastyan continued on, working hard, with no idle chatter to fluster his brain. All the others seemed to be picking up on the work, rather than yelling at each other, so Sev wasn't frightened when he noticed Maori nonchalantly walking to a tree next to the one he was working on. She seemed quiet enough, and as they caught gazes for a second she did a friendly smile at him. He slicked his ears back and did a sheepish grin, making him lose his footing for a second while he shoved. Luckily, he regained it before he fell, and he looked around to make sure no one saw his foolishness. Giggling at himself, he resumed pushing the tree. His was rather small and was toppled over with ease. As he looked around once more he noticed poor Maori pushing a rather large one by herself. "Oh dear. Don't you know how to pick on a tree your own size?" Sev asked a little annoyed, more talking to the imaginary Maori in his head than the real one. He spoke quietly, hoping real Maori didn't hear the question, as he thought it was kind of rude. He sauntered over to the little mare with big aspirations (as he now jokingly referred to her in his head) and helped push. "So, uhh... want some help?" Sev asked her with a sideways grin. He nervously giggled, hoping she wasn't going to tell him to go away. Poor guy was just trying to be nice, after all.

Smiling as Vashti took her offer (and sighing inwardly), the mother gently draped the ribbon around her neck. Her second action was to detach the other sash that was tucked around Dawne's neck. They had shredded a small portion to keep tied around her throat to have ease of carrying it around constantly. Frowning that she hadn't wrapped her daughter's eyes earlier, the mare gently draped the cloth over her eyes after managing a knot in the red fabric, tightening it under her jaw once around her head. Inspecting that her sockets were covered, Lena gave an approving nod and a small huff to her filly as she tapped her nose with her own. Vashti then coaxed Dawne to follow her, a slight pang in her heart, the mother always full of worry. But Dawne would be just within her sight, she wouldn't allow the grey filly to go anywhere she couldn't supervise her, not after the attack....
Snorting, she shook out her mane, recently release black curls shaking about. She had to focus, if she clouded her thoughts with the past, she couldn't focus on the task at hand, or on watching her foal. With a heavy sigh, Lena trotted over to Eila, the mare currently shoving a tree with her shoulder. It wasn't that large, but she knew that these trees were either deeply rooted, or possibly petrified. Assessing the size, she made her way to the side just next to the other stout mare.
"Here," she offered softly, smiling at the fjord mix, "Let's work together."
With that, the pony mare rose up, planting her front hooves on the trunk of the tree. She pushed, occasionally rearing back to kick out at the tree with her upper body. Inch by inch, the tree was shoved back, until the base splintered and gave away. Lena again smiled at Eila. Motioning to the next tree, "We can gather these up into a pile, then ask what Khala would like to do with them when they're done."

[ Khala | Exile Leader ] The Exile Leader watched as her assigned teams quickly broke off into smaller groups, pride slowly prickling her hide. It gave her unspeakable joy to see how eager they were, also, to restore their homeland. She had had her reservations when bringing them back here. . . plenty of reservations, and fears, of course. There was much to worry about, but at least their eagerness was not one of them. As they slowly drew away, Ghost approached her, voice dropping to a low register. "We are here to help, not to be berated by your herd members. I have been civil, and will continue to be so, but if there is another incident. . . I will not hesitate to put an end to it myself. I have respected your conditions for this tentative truce, I only ask that the same courtesy be extended to me and mine." The anger and irritation in his voice was evident in each word, though as he spoke, Khala's own irritation quickly jumped up a few notches. She didn't hesitate for a moment to place herself in his path, meeting his eyes with an unwavering gaze.
"This is no place for threats, Ghost," she told him plainly, a fire burning behind her golden gaze. "And if you wish to judge all of my herd by the actions of one, then you are sorely out of place. You take care of your own, and I shall take care of mine. This is not your home, but mine, and any 'ending' you may do could be viewed as a hostile action. Unless you want two herds at your throats, I'd suggest taking a more peaceful course." Khala held his eyes for a long while before pulling away. "As you said yourself, we've spent enough time with idle chit-chat. I'm not interested in playing power games with you or tossing threats around. You came to offer your services and I've accepted them, so let's actually stop this arguing and get to work. I'm tired of standing and not acting." Turning away from him, she noted Sevastyan and Maori working together, and thus, that left her and Ghost to pair off and begin working. A scowl turned her lips downwards, and she turned back. "Looks like it's you and me, for the time being," she huffed, annoyance clear in her voice. Already she was growing weary of the arguments and tension between hers and theirs. At least the mares were quick to want to cooperate, and already they were working hard down by the banks.
The chimera pivoted on a hind-hoof and resumed Ghost's path towards a larger, ash-coated tree, allowing her gift to begin to sense the condition of the earth around the base, picking out where the dirt was looser, and where the roots' grip wasn't as strong. "If we hit it on these-" she struck a few of the roots with a front hoof- "roots, it will give way much easier than if we simple tackled it head on."

Dawne breathed a sigh of relief as the soft fabric was wrapped around her head. Then her mother shifted away and the fur on Dawne's face grew warm again from the sun. She smiled, bright white teeth forming a stark contrast against her dark coat.
"Oooh I can't wait to go and play in some of the water. Do you think it'll be safe to drink? or should we not try? Maybe..." The filly just blabbered on, her voice just happily spitting out words without real meaning. Her fuzzy ears were turning this way and that, and then there was nothing under her feet and Dawne, rather ungracefully mind you, slid down the river bank, mud pushing from under her hooves and splashing in the water.
The filly paused for a moment, looking like she was about to cry. Though, when she turned around to look at Vashti she had the biggest smile on her face that any horse could have ever seen. She leapt, partially dragging the older foal along with her as she planted her hooves into the cold water of the river. She began nosing her way through the water, pushing duck-weed like plants and mosses towards the bank.
"Oh, Mamma and Eila, we can use some sticks if y'all have them." The filly's southern accent poked through and echoed towards the large group. In the meantime though, well while she waited for sticks she wandered farther into the low-flowing water.

MAORI | EXILE | MEDIC
While she was bungling to get the tree into movement, she didn't notice that Sev's attention focus changed from the tree to her. She cursed the damn tree in her mind for not working with her, but working against her. And at the same time she cursed herself for choosing such a large tree, while there were enough smaller once she could've started working on. But stubborn as she was, she wasn't going to give and back down; this tree would be going down, no matter what she had to do for it.
It was when she took a step backwards and snorted in frustration that she saw that Sev had moved himself towards her and now offered his help to her. Shy for the fact that she couldn't handle this tree herself she turned her ears sideways, a soft smile decorating her small face. She saw that he was a bit nervous, but she couldn't tell why. Maybe because they were back on the death lands that once were their home and that he didn't feel comfortable being back here again. She couldn't blame him if he were - she herself would've rather stayed away, although it had really awoken her curiosity now that they were here. But maybe it was something else - she didn't know and couldn't quite put a finger on why.
''I'm afraid I have to take you on that offer,'' she said giving him a warm and thankful smile again and than looked back at the tree again, almost in desperation.
As he shoved his body forwards and his weight against the tree, she did the same. The tree let go of a large cracking sound, probably loosing part of it's death roots in the process, and finally giving in and tumbling over. Maori didn't expected the tree to now go down so easily, so when the pressure from the standing tree fell away, she almost tumbled over face first in the ashes, but luckily - if you could call it that - Sev was standing next to her and kept her from falling over. Instead, she softly but clumsy stumbled against his dark body.
She led go of a soft high "oops" and vastly set a step back again. She smiled and looked up to him from underneath her long, wavy forelock. ''I'm sorry,'' she spoke shy and a bit ashamed. ''I didn't thought it would come down that fast,'' she said now a bit more nervously, smiling.

[Ghost//Bachelor Elite//Stallion]
"It wasn't a threat, dearie, it was a promise." He snorted loudly as she continued. "...And if you wish to judge all of my herd by the actions of one, then you are sorely out of place." The large stallion almost let loose a hearty chuckle. He had no intention of judging the Exiles based on Cholena's behavior. No. He'd had many encounters with the Exiles, and he had been insulted many times over. In all honesty, he'd just had enough of them. His ear flicked toward Khala as her voice seemed rise. "You take care of your own, and I shall take care of mine. This is not your home, but mine, and any 'ending' you may do could be viewed as a hostile action. Unless you want two herds at your throats, I'd suggest taking a more peaceful course. As you said yourself, we've spent enough time with idle chit-chat. I'm not interested in playing power games with you or tossing threats around. You came to offer your services and I've accepted them, so let's actually stop this arguing and get to work. I'm tired of standing and not acting." Ghost bit his tongue, quietly trying to calm his rage as the mare got out of his way and continued on the path he'd been taking. Now was not the time or place to get into an argument. Khala had been right about one thing. This was her home, and he was there to help. nothing more, nothing less. Quickly, he glanced around at his herd mates, making mental notes of where each of them were and what they were doing before continuing on his way.
"Looks like it's you and me, for the time being," Khala's voice was filled with annoyance as she spoke, and Ghost let out a mirthless chuckle. "I suppose so." He watched as she walked toward the mangled, lifeless, husk of a tree, reaching out with her gift."If we hit it on these roots, it will give way much easier than if we simple tackled it head on." Ghost took note of how easily the mare had sensed the condition of the tree and the earth that surrounded it. If he hadn't already been filled with irritation and anger, he might have been mildly impressed. He nodded once in response to the mare. Rearing up, he threw all of his weight and strength into his forelegs before crashing down on the mangled roots. Overly dry splinters flew as the roots tore away from the trunk easily. Glancing at the Khala, he threw himself against the tree, pushing it to the ground and pulling it away from the few roots that still clung to it. "How do you want to do this?" He asked calmly, "Do you want to go pull a bunch of these from the ground and then take them wherever you want them to go, or do you wanna take them as we pull them?" The spotted stallion glanced around the plains, taking note of the many trees that needed to be felled. Ghost knew how he would handle this mess, but as Khala had said, it was her home. Besides, he was curious to see how efficiently and effectively the lead mare could handle the task.

Sev sighed with relief and beamed at her when she accepted his offer. They leaned against the tree in unison. His muscles tightened and strained and the tree gave way. It crashed down but Maori was still leaning on it. Poor Maori lost her footing and fell into Sevastyan's side. He jumped and flattened his ears back, looking at her with wide eyes. He let out a small yelp of surprise and she did an "oops" while stepping away. Heart beating faster than before he stared at her with large green eyes, full of fear. The poor thing stood still as a rock and she apologized, smiling at him bashfully. He gave out a stress relieving full body shake and giggled. "It's alright, but you scared me half to death..." Sev said cheerfully. "I get really frightened when those kinds of things happen, so don't worry about it. I'm just glad you didn't fall into a bunch of ashy dirt. That would've been... awkward." The weirdest thing about today was, in fact, today in general. But the day's not over yet, and many more a thing is to come, especially in these times of trial and indeed error, Sev mused to himself.

Vashti listened to the other youngling blabber on. She looked over to her, opening her mouth to speak just as the other made a rather ungraceful slide down the river bank, jerking at the ribbon tied around their necks. Vashti went sliding down with her. Her front legs buckled and she crashed forward into the river with a splash, landing in a sort of kneeling position. "Unicorns, you need to be more careful," Vashti huffed as she got back up on her feet. She looked at Dawne, seeing a big grin plastered on her face. Without a warning the filly leapt away, forcing Vashti to follow. "Hey, be careful!" Vashti said, splashing after her.
"Are there fish in this river?" Vashti asked as they went to work. She moved so she was alongside the other youngling. She looked over to where Eila was, watching her and Cholena. She wondered how long they would be here helping out. Perhaps a day or two, she thought. If all she had to do was help put mud and twigs along the river bank, then this didn't seem as bad she initially thought, there could be some fun in it. "Oh right, sticks," she nodded when Dawne spoke. "Eila, is there sticks up there? We need some."

Eila | Slave brood
-------------------
Red ears twitched at the sound of approaching hooves, but Eila had been expecting Cholena to follow and thus did not jump or swing around to look at the mare. She snorted her agreement at working together, but did not speak. Head bowed as she shoved against the trunk, Eila could feel when Lena started adding her own efforts.
"Watch out-" she said suddenly, feeling the tree about to give and stepping back, watching it splinter to the ground in a puff of ash. Eila almost flicked her tail in satisfaction, before eyeing the dust cloud and thinking of how much more her tail would stir it up. No tail flicking for her.
"Thank you," she said finally, turning to look at Lena. She didn't know how to react to the mare's gentle friendliness. In the first place Eila was enough of a quiet, solitary brood on the fringe of the herd that she didn't generally have to handle others approaching her with requests for companionship. And... Lena was free, now. She'd done what Eila wanted to, so desperately, and had succeeded where Eila had failed. She'd escaped once, oh yes, but had never made it to the Exiles. And of course, had been recaptured. By a golden mare.
"Eila, is there sticks up there? We need some."
Speaking of golden mares... looking away from Lena, Eila peered down the bank at the two younglings. Alarm made the mare's ears fly forward, and she took several quick strides to the edge of the bank. "Vashti, be careful," Eila called, her anxious gaze on Dawne, who was splashing happily in to deeper water. "Don't wander too far from the edge- you don't know how deep that water is," Eila continued, forgetting herself in her anxiety as she flicked her tail and delivered a cloud of ash to the air. Coughing, the mare watched the two younglings for a moment, then turned to get them the requested sticks. If they had a job to do, they would be less likely to get in trouble.
"We'll have to keep a close eye on them," Eila murmured to Lena, feeling awkward telling a mother how to handle her own foal and yet unwilling to keep quiet- however cautious Dawne was, this was also Vashti they were talking about, after all. The mare walked over to the recently felled tree, and began to gather sticks in her mouth, occasionally stepping on a larger one with a crack to break it up. Moving back to the bank, she lowered her head and dropped the bundle, letting it slide and rattle down the gentle slope towards Vashti.

The mother smiled at the former herd mate as the tree collapsed with a thud, sending a cloud of ash in the air. Sneezing, the mare felt her body recoil with the violent burst of air escape her body, sending her black curls every which way. Smiling sheepishly, she followed the other mare to the edge of the hill, looking down at the two young fillies frolicking in the water. She, too, worried about how the water was like, and slowly, she made her way down to the bank as well.
"Eila is right," the mare agreed, nodding her head as they scolded the foals' recklessness, "You should be more careful, the both of you. Try to stay closer to the bank, the last thing we want is you to hurt yourselves."
Smiling to reassure the two they weren't in trouble (and huffing a comforting blow into her filly's face since she couldn't see), she followed the brood back up the hill, hindquarters rippling as she pushed herself up. Being short had its advantages, but this was not one of them. Lena sighed in relief once they reached the top again, glancing down as Eila spoke. Again, she smiled, the concern she had for Vashti reminded her of her own concern for Melia when she was still in the herd. The memory made her frown, the thought of the flaxen filly without her made her fear for her well being. Shaking her head, she focused again on what the fjord mare had said, flickering her ears towards her voice.
"We should," she agreed, glancing back down at the foals that were compiling mud and rocks for their task, "I have no doubt they mean well, but they're still foals. Unicorns only know what trouble those two could get into. It might be best if one of us checks in on them every once in a while. We can alternate watch on them."
Following her partner, she snapped twigs and branches so that she could carry them to the hill. She mimicked the idea of the other mare, gently rolling the bundles down the hill, twigs stopping as they splashed at the bank of the river. Taking a quick once over of their work, Lena moved back to her own task, trotting to the next tree to be felled. Throwing her hooves up, she shoved all of her weight into the push, hearing the small snapping and splintering of the charred wood.

She smiled apologizing, especially know that she scared him off a bit, her ears turned sideways in discomfort. She didn't know why he got so startled, but she felt sorry for making him feel that way. When he said it was just fine and that it happened often; that it was not completely her fault she startled him, she slowly turned her ears forward again. His cheerful words got onto her and she raised her head again, while she nodded. ''Well, I guess it would. The grounds here aren't that clean, and than you had to pull me up again and all,'' she grinned, while she looked down to the ash filled ground. It was only now that she saw the big stain of ash on her dun chest. She smiled. The trees, of course, we're filled in ash too, since the bark of the trees was completely burned back when the fires consumed their homeland. But she couldn't care less, they were going to work around the water later, and there wasn't much ash that couldn't be washed away by water.
Still she couldn't help but lower her head and giving her body a good shake, so most of the ashes swirl from her body, back to the black ground. By doing so, she forgot about her forelock for a moment, but as soon as she felt her eye getting exposure, she shook it back over it. It didn't feel good. She wasn't completely blind on that eye, but covering it and not using it felt better than having half eyesight at one side, and having a good eye on the other. She smiled at him and than looked over to the other horses. Khala and Ghost were still stuck together, something that relieved her. If someone would see through Ghost's plans, than it would be Khala. And if someone would keep Ghost to his promises, it would also be Khala. Plus the fact that if they had to team up, she would've probably ended up with Ghost, or the stallion next to her would have teamed up with him. And with the anxiety he showed just a minute ago, that wouldn't have been a good idea.
She turned her head back to Sev, just as her focus. ''Is it the lands full of ash that make you feel nervous? Or the unexpected company we have?'' she said, eyeing shortly towards Ghost and the Bachelor broodmares he got as his company, shattered around paired up with the Exiles that were their company, their family. She spoke on a soft tone, because it was ment for Sev's ears and his ears only. She looked around for the next tree, which she found not far away from the one they had just brought done. She didn't know if he was into the teaming up that had happened, so if he wanted to work on his own it was just fine too. But she found herself to be much more at comfort with him at her side, maybe just because he was so polite and more introvert, just like she was, so she wouldn't mind having him at her two horse team; not at all.

Sev smiled at her words. She did escape the fate of an ash covered earth, but the trees still had her soot-covered. Looking around, he noticed most everyone had a large black stain on their shoulder from toppling trees. He chuckled, sneezing when Maori shook herself off.
"Excuse me!" He said, sniffling.
Maori was very sweet, and he could feel how comfortable she was with him. Sevastyan closed his eyes and grinned. He sensed that he had found a friend in her. It was a good thing too, because with all these Bachelors crawling around, well, you need someone to be there for you. Still, he had some fears, one being that he felt he couldn't be there if she needed him. Looking back on his past, he noticed he wasn't super great with those things. Thinking of his father made him shudder. Maori wanted to know why he was nervous, and he didn't blame her. It would be little awkward telling her, but he went for it anyway.
" Honestly, it's neither. I uhh... have anxiety problems. Since the fires, you know? I think we all went through a little bit of a character change... Some more than others." He whispered, clearing his throat in an embarrassed manner.

( I'm so sorry everyone for not being active! I've been caught up with school lately and had exams and a whole bunch of stuff going on, but I'm all done with that and promise to be more active ;o; )
Rylynn shuffled her hooves awkwardly as both the Exiles and fellow Bachelors split off into little groups, she didn't know a single horse from the Exiles besides Khala, their leader, and she barely knew the three she accompanied on their journey. Though it was amazing to be on a different island, she missed the comfort of the clear plains, and felt gloomy in the ashy terrain. But then again, who wouldn't?
After listening to Ghost, Khala, and a few others, spoke among themselves, a task was finally given and Rylynn was ready to take action. She had lost track of the time she had spent standing, but judging by how cramped her legs were, she assumed some time. Eila and Vashti had gone with a somewhat familiar looking mare and her foal, and Ghost had now parted off with Khala while two other Exiles shuffled off to begin the uprooting of trees.
"Just keep to yourself." She murmured under her breath, shifting the weight in her hooves before wandering over to one of the many charred trees that looked suitable for the Brood to knock over. She stood in front of the for a moment, inwardly wondering on how she'd really get this tree down. She was by herself on this one and knew horses weren't about to stop and help her, but that didn't bother her, in all honesty, she'd probably be able to get more done on her own.
With a quick snort the mare positioned herself in front of the tree and pushed forwards on it with her shoulders, the tree crackling slightly as she applied pressure. Her muscles bunched beneath her grullo coat and her legs were planted firmly into the ground, her thick neck pressing into the tree as she did her best to push it to the ground. Finally, after some awkward shoving with her shoulders, the tree was now slanting quite a bit. Swiftly the mare reared, taking her front legs and shoving the tree to the ground, maneuvering around the base of the tree as the roots began tearing from the earth. THUD. The tree finally hit the ground, it weak branches crackling and breaking off.
"This isn't going to be as easy as I thought."

((OOC: It's ok Whiskers We're just glad you're back!)) [Ghost//Bachelor Elite//Stallion]
Ghost waited for Khala to respond, only to find she seemed quite lost in her gift, listening to what the earth was telling her. Sighing impatiently, he began rolling the felled tree toward the bank, alone. It was a bit awkward to push at first, but once he got it going, it moved along quite easily. The stallion let his mind wander as he worked, mulling over the work that still needed to be done. Two of the Exiles seemed to be working well enough together to knock down some of the larger trees, Cholena and Eila were doing a decent job with some of the smaller ones, and the two younglings were surprisingly making progress with their task. Only one horse really seemed out of place, a lady brood who was working alone and seemed to be struggling with her assigned job. Giving his tree one last push toward the bank, he gently rocked it into place, making sure it was stable and wouldn't roll away unexpectedly.
"Rylynn," The stallion called to the paint mare as he headed towards the mess of charred trees, making sure to use her name. "Come help me with these. Thing's will move a lot quicker if we work together." He huffed, slightly irritated at the prospect, but knowing his words had been true. Things would be much faster with everyone working together. Glancing at the pair of Exiles, he changed his direction, heading toward them instead. Maybe they could get some sort of line going where two horses knocked over the trees while the other two pushed them to the river bank. It would definitely be more efficient, he just hoped the Exiles would listen to what he had to say. Keeping his head level and his demeanor as calm and non threatening as he was able, Ghost approached the pair, glancing back to see if the painted brood had followed.

MAORI | EXILE | MEDIC
She softly giggled when he let go of a sneeze, probably due to the ashes that she shook out of her coat. ''Bless you!'' she said playful with a soft and just as playful nod. She wanted to comfort him, just like how he comforted her, but it seemed to be not as easy as she hoped. Still she felt he was more relaxed than he was a few minutes ago, and maybe that was as best as it could get now. After all they were still on these ash filled lands and accompanied by Bachelors. Most of them being a broodmare, but it were still Bachelors.
She felt a little bit thrown of her feet from his whispering answer. She didn't expected him to be so open. She would've expected something that couldn't be called a lie, but couldn't have been called the truth either. Just something you say to get on with the conversation, even though her question had been honest. It felt good that he dared to be so open with her; it made her feel more confident about herself. Maybe she was better company than she'd counted herself as.
She smiled understanding and nodded in agreement to his words. Many had changed, some even had gone completely mad; that part of the some of us not being with us anymore due to that exact fact. She understood completely where he came from.
''I understand... I think we all died a little on the inside, that day. But I believe most of us get out of it stronger, eventually,'' she smiled towards him, a determined twinkle in her golden eye, her voice as low as a whisper, just as his was, thriving on the soft breeze that made her curls tickle her curly neck. She wanted to open her mouth again and let go of another whisper when she heard heavy footsteps coming their way. She turned her ears towards the sound and soon her head followed, looking back over her shoulder. Her eyes found the huge spotted grey stallion that called himself an Elite, heading their way. Even though his mannerism was neutral, she couldn't help but burry her ears against her skull. Her whole attitude changed. Just like she was comfortable and at ease a second ago, she was now completely tense and hostile. She snorted loudly and softly pitched one of her hooves deeper in the ash, as if she wanted to warn Sev for the stallion that was coming for them.
