Khazada-Guard-Exiles
Hearing another set of hooves headed in her and Delvin's direction, Khazada spared a glanced behind her to see Gallow racing towards them, no doubt to help the two drafts turn the tide. But when Gallow skidded to a stop, sending ash flying into the mare, Khazada gave a rather annoyed snort as the ash didn't miss her face. Forcing herself to take a step back just as Gallow struck out at one of the bears, the dun mare snorted and tossed her head a bit to clear the ash from her nostrils. Luckily for her, her forelock did well to shield her eyes from the ash.
Satisfied, Khazada sprang forward once more and lashed out with her hooves once just as the bears looked ready to finally turn tail and leave. No, they will leave, as Khazada was not going to give them another option. "About time you decided to join us, Gallow." The draft mare gave the spotted stallion a look but there was that small hint of a smile. She was grateful the stallion arrived when he had and no doubt Khazada realized he had been taking care of Outlaw and Amarante.
It would seem one bear got the right idea as after another strike with Khazada's hooves, the bear decided to retreat from the dun mare and spotted stallion. But Khazada wasn't done as the draft bolted past Gallow and after the bear. Snapping her teeth, she chased the one bear for a few strides before Khazada finally skidded on her hindquarters, sending dust and ash flying all around her. Standing there for a moment, she watched as one ash bear retreated and she couldn't help but smile, even if she was breathing rather heavy. "And stay away!" The mare cried as she reared up on her hind legs and struck out at the evening air with her hooves. However there were two bears and Khazada wasn't done just yet. The guard spun around on her hindquarters before racing back to join Delvin and Gallow in driving out the last bear.

Galloway - Scout - Exile
The sounds of Khazada coughing up the ash made Gallow feel bad, but he couldn’t think of anything else to really surprise the bears. He nodded at Khazada and gave her a smile. "Better late then never huh?" He chuckled and flung another hoof at one of the bears. Finally, one of the bears had had enough. He turned tail and lumbered away releasing disgruntled roars at his partner telling him he had enough.
Gallow watched as Khazada chased it farther away, giving it a few more last minute kicks and curses as it disappeared into the night. Gallow knew it wouldn’t leave the island, but at least it would mind its own business when the herd moved back onto their rightful land.
As Khazada followed the bear until it disappeared over the hill, Gallow jumped in with Delvin to attack and drive away the other bear. His heart was lifting at the sight of the first bear leaving and the fact that the end of the mission was nearing. Even though the fact that this group of horses would split up and go their different ways. He felt great having made some actual friends and didn’t want to loose them after everything. He glanced at the bay paint stallion, his breath uneven with each hit he threw at the last bear and the two horses, Outlaw and Amarante resting at the cope of dead trees, and the dun draft charging after the retreating bear. This was a great group of horses who were strong and admirable. Of course he never wanted to loose these new found friends.
With Delvin pounding away at the other bear who seemed more stubborn and intent on standing his ground Gallow joined and tried to kick the bear in its sides by circling it. He hoped that with two horses attacking it from all different sides would finally knock it down a peg and send it fleeing into the darkness.
The bears bellows was becoming obnoxious so Gallow screamed back right into one of its tiny fuzzy ear. The creature stopped bellowing and shook it’s head looking out around it kind of dazed. Gallow rammed his shoulder into the bear’s shoulder and started moving the large creature backwards while it was still dazed. He hoped with Delvin, Khazada and himself this last bear would be gone lickety-split.

When the smaller mare began lowering herself to the ground beside him, Outlaw's ears perked up and a small smirk spread across his lips. Even if he was wounded, he was still a player. The Guard was just about to take a breath in to start off with a famous pick up line of his, but before he could utter a word, Amarante was pushing him up against a dead tree that could only be described as a big hunk of charcoal.
"Easy..easy there Amarante." Outlaw chuckled and flicked the ear on his healthy side before continuing, "Believe me I wish I was healthy enough for...more taxing activities...but it looks like I'll have to 'take it easy' for awhile. he finished with a small huff. This stallion was never one to take it easy, but he knew that's what the Medics would make sure he did upon his return. At least that would make for a speedier recovery so he could go back to protecting his herd. But as for now, Amarante's mane was now in front of him in it's tragic state. Determination flashed across the strangely marked stallion's face as he began snipping carefully at the dark mane with his teeth in order to give it a more aesthetically pleasing shape. If Outlaw was good at anything besides flirting, it was making himself look amazing. And he was sure that he could rub that off onto other horses as well. Little by little, Amarante's mane began looking just like it had before she cut it...just a little bit shorter. However, the fuzzy feeling in his head was growing stronger as his body and resolve grew weaker. The blood loss was making him vulnerable to the voice again...for he was losing the strength to shut it out. Outlaw clenched his jaw with a shiver as he tried to keep the voice out while not making a scene that made Amarante any shade of suspicious. The strangely marked stallion instead tried to focus on the fact that his team had valiantly managed to chase off one bear. Khazada even trailed it a bit just to drive the point of 'stay out' home to the beast. All remorse the stallion had about chasing the creatures out was completely gone now. It seemed that when Galloway leapt into the brawl the second bear, though stubborn, was even starting to get fed up with the large hooves pounding his fur. Watching this was bittersweet for him though, sitting out for the majority of a protection mission made him feel pretty helpless. He hadn't even landed a single blow on any of the bears. What I did...it took Galloway away from the fight so he could take care of me...was it really worth it? Was that the right thing to do? Well...I can't change it now. he thought with a small sigh as he finished up clipping the bay mare's mane.
Distracting those bears wasn't where you went wrong, you imbecile. It was letting them get away with doing this to you. You should go back out there...teach it to fear you. Teach it that if it should return it would be the bloodiest return in history...one that it wouldn't walk away from alive.

Amarante - Scount- Exiles
Amarante blushes at his comment, she was far from innocent so she knew what he meant by that statement. 'But there is a time and place for everything.' she though getting more comfortable. She wondered briefly if she should rejoin the others after this. She could help a little while outlaw rested. She giggled to herself, swatting him with her tail. "Your supposed to be resting not making comments like that." she said jokingly. She giggled moving her tail while he finished trimming it. She stood there looking at him, assessing him to she ifhe was well enough to leave alone. He was still bleeding but it couldn't be helped. His best chance was to get to the medic soon as possible.
"Outlaw, I'm going to go help the others. We will get you help soon." she said. She assessed her leg, if she didn't run to quickly she wouldn't hurt it much more. She cantered towards the other, noting one bear was gone. If she got to them they would have no problem taking out the other bear. She was wounded too but not as badly as outlaw, and though her should wound burned she ignore it, When she got to the fight she reared to her full height, screaming at the bear to leave.

Delvin - Scout - Exiles
Delvin breathed an inward sigh of relief as he watched Khazada strike a wicked blow on one of the bears, before the wretched beast turned tail and fled the clearing with the guard hot on its heels for good measure. Only one Ash Bear remained, and now that Galloway had slid into the fight with a flurry of ash, the odds were finally weighed in the team's favor.
The fact that Galloway had returned to the fight hopefully meant Outlaw and Amarante were in stable enough condition to be left alone, which relieved the scout a bit as well. The herd didn't need any of its members lost so soon after they returned home. Outlaw's wounds had looked serious though... He hoped the young guard wouldn't have to give up his rank because of one of these damn Ash Bears.
The bay scout didn't have much time to reflect on much before the remaining Ash Bear let out another roar. Apparently having its companion flee wasn't enough. With a huff Delvin reared onto his hind legs and again struck out towards the filthy beast, feeling his hooves warm instantly as he struck the predator's pelt. Galloway was soon by the bear's side, lashing out at every possible opportunity. The bear let out a frustrated yowl and he tried to choose a horse to focus on, and Delvin landed a particularly hard blow right on the side of its head. The creature went reeling back onto all fours, and Delvin noticed Khazada was almost back to he and Galloway now too. He was panting and out of breath, but there wasn't much fight left in the bear. It had no chance against three horses now that the other had fled; all the group had to do was hold out a bit longer, and then they could get Outlaw back to the herd.

Khazada-Guard-Exiles
Despite being exhausted as she was and out of breath, the draft mare lengthened her stride just as she finally reached Delvin and Gallow. Once again Khazada slid on her hindquarters, sending another wave of ash at the remaining bear. With her ears pinned back, Khazada snapped her teeth at the beast before she struck out with her hooves again, the adrenaline in her veins keeping her going at that moment. Her whole neck, shoulders, and chest were stained with sweat from her efforts but Khazada continued to lash out with her hooves, her amethyst gaze only showing her own fury she had that this bear hadn't turned tail and retreated.
However Khazada didn't miss Amarante join in. Not wanting the smaller mare to risk getting more injured then she already was, Khazada gave the smaller mare a forceful push away from the bear just as the draft took her place. "Get back to Outlaw! Your not fit for this!" Khazada ordered, giving Amarante a look, as if daring for her to argue. She was sure she came across being rather bossy about it but Khazada didn't wish to see the smallest member of their group turn out like Outlaw. And if that meant making her stay out of the blunt of the fighting, then so be it. But as a guard, she wouldn't let the smaller mare get even more hurt then she already was, and besides Khazada had strength and height over the mare if she had to use it. Though Khazada hoped the mare would see reason with what the draft was trying to do.

Galloway - Scout - Exile
Gallow was now just as out of breath as the other two. The flat gallop from before had sucked up a lot of his energy. The poor spotted stallion wasn’t as in shape as he had hoped. But he kept going. He knew this was their last stretch. With Khazada returning from chasing the other he knew it was only a matter of time before this last bear gave up.
He hadn’t seen Amarante and Outlaw amidst the battle since he left them. He hoped that meant that no one was getting worse and that Outlaw was still conscious. But when his ears caught the faint sound of loping hoofbeats Gallow’s heart starting beating in fear. He took a pause from the fighting and glanced behind him. Amarante was heading their way with a determined look on her face. Before Gallow could ask if anything was wrong Khazada shouted at the mare to stay back and keep Outlaw safe. That’s when it clicked that she was going to jump back in the fight.
As Gallow opened his mouth to support Khazada the bear behind him bellowed deeply. It seemed it had caught the fourth horse in its sight and decided that four against one was not in his favor. The creature started slowly backing up, still trying to stand its ground. Stubborn as a mule.
With a smile on his face and a look of triumph Gallow jumped back in rearing and roaring his own cry at the bear. He thrashed his hooves wildly in the night air and watched as finally the bear turned tail and lumbered away after the first.

This time, the oddly marked Guard did notice Amarante's blush. It was very faint to him in the dark, but it was still there. Just barely. A weak chuckle left him but wasn't directed at the smaller mare, for he didn't feel how he used to. He didn't see the blush as an invitation, but only as an instance. Outlaw sighed as he remembered the last time he took that very expression as an invitation, and paid the price. Bitterness engulfed his chest for a moment, gripping his heart and making it ache as the scene of the rejection played through his mind. It wasn't a lovesick 'woes-me' ache, it was a good pain. It hurt, but that pain taught the Guard a lesson that he had to be learn. Don't lead someone on where no love could ever blossom.
When the horse standing above him replied to his innuendo, all he did was smile and small nod. "Right right...resting." he murmured, his ears flicked backwards and his dark brown eyes downcast. The stallion definitely felt more than a little under the weather by now, and not just because of the pulsing gashes on his once beautiful face. Those negative thoughts coupled with the voice making itself known once again on top of the fuzzy feeling was enough to make him irritable and indisposed. But he kept it to himself, for Amarante didn't deserve to be lashed out at. She had only tried to help him this entire time. Well...until now. The young Scout announced that she was going to help finish off the last stubborn bear. Outlaw parted his lips to object to her departure because the thought of being alone ailed him though he would never admit it, but before he could say a word she was already off without a breath's hesitation. Now his ears flattened and he pushed up against the tree she propped him up on to try to get comfortable now that he lay in solitude to watch the fight he should be participating in.
All alone and covered in blood once again. What a pretty picture, albeit a familiar one. chided the snarky voice in Outlaw's head, instantly reminding him of when he had fought his own father and left the Bachelors. That was the last time the voice managed to take control of him before that night. The air rushed through his nostrils in frustration as he replied inwardly, Shut up. Thinking about that isn't going to help, it's in the past and there's nothing I can do to change it. The voice sighed wistfully, sarcastically as it continued, Oh I suppose you're right. But you know, if you never left this would never have happened to you. You could've been loved by many a mare back on the Eastern Isle, but instead you're living on a land ravaged by fire and permanently marred. No self respecting Exile mare would be interested in a stallion with such repulsive marks on his face. This time the snort that left the injured horse was angrier. Outlaw was almost ready to ram his head against the tree to attempt knocking himself out completely cold so he wouldn't have to listen to this anymore. But doing that in this state would likely kill him. Even the audacious stallion knew that. You're the one who made me go at those bears like that rather than get them to chase me or something!
While Outlaw was arguing with some part of himself, the second team seemed to have finished off the second bear. They would be over soon to help him up so they could go home, with luck that is.
That's where you're wrong, Outlaw. I only offered that option up to you...you are the one that took it.

Amarante - Scout - Exiles
Amarante watched the bears leave with a smile on her face. It was finally over and they could all go home. She wondered if the bears would ever decide to come back, though, she hoped that they wouldn't.' It was hard enough getting rid of they this time.' she thought to herself, taking in everyone's injuries. Outlaw was the worst off but everyone was sporting battle scars from this battle. She knew her shoulder would scar but at lest it would be the one she kept her hair over. She realized Outlaw would probably be the worst scarred out of all of them as he had taken the worst of the attack.
She felt for the stallion, because she knew he had prided himself on his looks and now those were marred. She had noticed when she blushed a look of pain had passed over his face, even the darkness couldn't hide, and wondered why. She limped over to the others happy it was over, they could go home now. She thought of the wounded stallion before she got to them and turned around liming back towards were he lay resting. She couldn't carry hi the entire way but at least she could help him to Gallow she thought.

Delvin - Scout - Exiles
The bay scout stood on all fours again, sides heaving as he watched the beast lumber away into the burnt forest. It was about bloody time, stubborn oafs, he thought, giving the fleeing bear a snort for good measure. Khala and the rest of the herd would be happy to hear there were two less Ash Bears roaming around on their territory.
The stallion couldn't say he was happy, however. Outlaw had nearly lost his life, and Amarante didn't look in good health either as she limped away after her stunt on the rocks. Khazada, Galloway, and himself weren't any worse for wear, though he suspected they'd all be sleeping like the dead tonight. Delvin gave himself a hearty shake, attempting but ultimately failing to rid his coat of the ash and gore that covered it.
"Gallow, how is Outlaw?" he asked the spotted stallion, giving the younger horse a look that conveyed a deeper message. Would the ambitious guard make it or not?
"And how about the rest of you, eh? That wasn't an easy fight by any means; you should all be proud of yourselves," he continued, looking over the rest of the team. Setback after setback seemed to be hitting the Exiles lately, but somehow they were all still standing. And now they were one step closer to regaining control of their island. Delvin could only hope the other teams had had comparable success.
"We need to be gettin' back before mornin' comes around," he continued, "Let's go see if we can figure out how we'll get Outlaw back."

Khazada-Guard-Exiles
Khazada resisted the urge to chase after the second bear but instead stood with her head held high as the bear left and was soon out of sight. Snorting, she lowered her head as it would seem all her extra energy was spent and finally she was feeling the effects of her previous fighting. She however flicked an ear in Delvin's direction and gave a small, tired nod of her head just as her forelock fell back over her eyes. Giving a quite sigh, she turned her head in the direction Outlaw was still just as Amarante was making her way back over to the wounded guard.
Part of her just wanted a moment to rest but Khazada knew they best get underway and return back to the herd. Pushing herself to move, the dun mare trailed after the smaller bay mare. Ash still stirred under her heavy hooves as she almost dragged her hooves though after a stride or two, the draft picked her feet up a bit more as Khazada seemed to realize they had indeed succeeded in their task. With all the set backs and even with two of their own becoming wounded, they actually did it. This thought in itself seemed to lift the mare's weary, tired spirit as she approached the other guard.
However a feeling of sympathy came over Khazada as she really saw what damage had been done to Outlaw. For one who so prided themselves on looks, no doubt the scarring on the stallion's face would impact him more.
Stopping a few feet, Khazada lowered her head before reaching over and giving Outlaw a slight nudge on the shoulder with her nose to grab his attention to her. "Think you can walk, Outlaw?" The draft mare asked, her tone showing her concern for her fellow guard. Of course he'd need support to stand which no doubt she or the others could provide. But that all depended on if the stallion could even stand without falling.

Galloway - Scout - Exile
The smile on his face still stood stark against the fierceness of the battle. His heart was beating erratically and he could feel the course of adrenaline slowing in his veins. They had done it. It was not at all what Gallow was expecting from this mission. He hadn’t even thought of someone being as injured as Outlaw. Most creatures don’t pack that much of a punch.
Thinking of Outlaw, Gallow turned his attention to the wounded Guard. He watched as Amarante and Khazada ambled on over to him.
Delvin spoke up and directed a question at Gallow. The spotted stallion saw a more serious question hiding underneath. Gallow glanced again at Outlaw then proceeded to give Delvin a truthful answer.
“I do believe he’ll live. As long as nothing else comes after him. The blood had begun to clot as we moved him somewhere safer. But if we don’t get him back soon infection will take hold and he could easily succumb to that.” Gallow kept his voice low. He didn’t want to panic any of the others.
At Delvin’s words of praise Gallow stood taller and felt stronger. This was his first real task set out to him by their leader. He felt so much older by the experience. Especially with the scent of blood still in the air.
Gallow’s ears instinctually swiveled around him. They suddenly stopped directly behind him. He flattened his ears flat against his neck and swung his head behind him. Two figures came creeping out of the dead forest. A chill seeped into Gallow’s bones and his heart picked up speed again, sending new found adrenaline into his blood.
“Delvin, behind you.” Gallow gritted his teeth, keeping his voice down. Whatever they were he didn’t want to grab their attention. But it didn’t matter how quiet he was; they crept even closer. The moon and stars lit them up harshly.
The creatures looked like moose. But something didn’t blend well with that thought. And then Gallow noticed the single horn and the sharp incisors dipping below their lips. They were… "We have a Peridium mother and her calf. Everyone make a barrier around Outlaw. They smell his blood.”
Gallow’s eyes narrowed in anger. They had just defeated two fully grown ash bears and now were being subjected to the wills of two blood thirsty Peridium. And to make it worse one was a calf. He could already see it twitching uncontrollably as the smell of blood grew stronger the closer came. How were they going to run them off? Two horses injured. Two horses drained from fighting. Even Gallow was feeling feeble after his small part in the battle.
We can’t let them defeat us.

Outlaw's visible deep brown eye observed the conclusion of the long, strenuous brawl with confidence and hidden concern. He found that the more he filled his mind with other horses rather than what would happen to himself, the less inclined the voice was to speak. Distancing himself from himself made the situation easier to cope with for the time being. Nothing was stopping him from taking care of his own issues when he was by himself later on. His tense posture against the burnt black tree he was leaning on finally relaxed a little as the second bear turned tail and began lumbering away after it's counterpart. The Guard wanted to get up and chase their sorry asses not just off The Southern Isle, but off the very edges of the planet and out into space. But obviously he was in no position to do such a thing, laying there covered in his own blood. How he longed for it to be something else's. But Outlaw blinked rapidly for a few seconds to clear his thoughts just in time to see his team making their way back over to him. They're coming back. We can finally get back and tell Khala that those bears won't be coming back anytime soon. If they are strong enough to support me...I don't think I can walk that far by myself. What am I thinking. It's just walking, I can do it myself. the stallion thought to himself as he lurched to his hooves as carefully as he could manage as to not crack the somewhat clotting blood.
But as he stood there awaiting the fatigued horses to reach him, his visible eye narrowed. Galloway and Delvin were murmuring to each other with their heads close together, their ears flicked in his direction. They're probably talking about how to get me back in this state...All this blood loss isn't good for traveling. thought Outlaw to himself with a sigh. With his luck he'd pass out on them and they'd all have to take turns dragging him back. Just the thought of him getting dragged though the ash and getting even more covered with the stuff was enough to make his frame shiver. Finally, the other horses reached him and asked if he was fit to walk.
"Yes, I can walk. I'll be fine." the stallion assured the fellow Guard with a smile. None of the others had spoken to him yet, so until they did, Outlaw decided to save his strength and stay quiet. However before the party managed to make it so much as thirty lengths, Galloway spoke...of two Peridium that were following them. And they seemed to be after him! The scent of his blood seemed to be too much of a temptation for the starving beats. Outlaw's black tipped ears flicked backwards in frustration at Galloway's order...the order to surround and protect him from a scruffy moose and her little wretch. As the new wave of predators approached the group, the strangely marked stallion's nostrils fluttered with a soft snort. His visible eye narrowed and made contact with the eye of the mother Peridium Moose. The look he gave her was a threatening one, an aggressive move especially for him. One that almost dared her to lunge and try to hurt him. It would seem that Outlaw was having none of the nonsense he had received from the bears. There was no way he wouldn't land a blow in a second fight now that he was on his hooves and able to move.
All of this was fueled by the infuriating fuzzy feeling in the Guard's mind that distorted his way of thinking. He no longer seemed to want to avoid the inevitable fight even in his critical condition. His body language reflected this, even when no words confirmed it.

Amarante - Scout - Exile
Amarante was a bit startled when they where faced with yet another opponent so soon after their last battle. She had never seen a moose like this one, but had heard of them before and their blood thirsty acts. She shivered, fear written on her face. This wasn't good out all, Outlaw's blood must have drawn them to the small group. She wasn't sure she could fight again, her leg was hurting terribly and she wish nothing more then to go home. "This was the worst possible time for this to happen,' she though silently to herself. There was no way out of it though, she only hoped the meese would see horses as a big enough threat to presade them not to attack.
She backed towards outlaw keeping her eyes on the meese. As scared as she was there was no way she was going to let the meese eat her new friend. She looked back at Outaw and was surprised to see a threatening look on his face. There was still some fire left in him, but hopefully he was smart enough not to attack. He was still wounded, and that would not end well for him. Amarante snorted plotting in her mind, She had been bleeding as well but wasn't any longer, maybe she could play a diversion, though. Enough for Outlaw to get away. "Guys I could distract themm long enough for Outlaw to get away." She said in a questiong tone. Not totally sure of the plan.
