Greer ambled over to the least icy bush and devoured its leaves like the last supper.
"Well, you see after i left you i went off to find my brother laz, he was at our hide out as usual, and mind you it took me a month to find it again, so i stayed there for awhile, id been delivering messages alot so i gave myself a break. And not that its any of you buisness, i dont get those alot. So i hung there for a few weeks with laz, until he had to leave and go out on a trip to talk to an old friend about something he wouldnt tell me. Anyways im just hanging out and all of the sudden this jackass horse i met a month ago, just comes on in and Fairying hits me. I didnt have time to stand up before he gave me cuts left and right. But i managed to run and hes been chasing me ever since. Yesterday I though id lost him, but i was mistaken." She faltered. She remember the horses hooves coming down on her again and again until he thought she was finally dead. Tears welled up in her eyes and all the pain returned.
"And thats when i relised...i was scared."

Delvin listened as the mare explained the downright ridiculous strain of events that took place over the last few months. If she didn't look like she was mauled by the entire Bachelor herd he probably wouldn't have even believed her. He huffed as he watched her devour the nearest plant in sight, "Where is this cave?" he asked, wondering how she even managed to amble her way back to the Exiles after being attacked like she did. Maybe the attacker was still in the area.

"No its fine..." She said before coughing into the snow. Drops of red dotted the stark white powder. "I just need a few days of rest and ill be good as new." She said, nearly falling over. She looked up and saw the herd had moved down the hills, toward were the edge of the woods was. She mosied through the knee deep snow, still limping severely. She was out of breath quickly and had to stop after taking ten steps.

Delvin let out a humorless chuckle, "Plan on more than a few days," he muttered, following close behind the wobbling horse as she made her way down the hill. Thankfully she hadn't gotten one of her legs broken, or she wouldn't be walking at all, so there was that. "The herd won't mind you stickin' around," he informed her, "They're not ones to turn away a horse that clearly needs a bit of help." His mind drifted back to how his mother had joined up with the herd, even if it was for only a handful of months. They hadn't turned her away, and he imagined she had looked just as bad after her encounter with the cougar as Greer did now.

"I dont need help." She grumbled, even though she knew she did. Greer felt pain shoot up her leg as she put a little to much weight on the irritated muscles and tendons. She winced, but continued the hike toward the herd. She was hesident about joining up with them, but she promised herself she wasnt joining up with the herd, just with Delvin. Her mind wandered back, yet again, to the day she promised herself never to join a herd, because her parents said herds were evil and controlling. She wasnt sure where they got the idea, but she knew that her mother had been Olde and run away. She wondered why that was.
"So, Delvin, what have you been up to during the past 3 months?" She asked.

Delvin stopped with Greer a few yards from the bulk of the herd, far enough down the hill and close enough to the forest for them to be out of the worst of the wind. He looked at her wounds again, and while he was no healer he knew it would definitely take more than a few days for all of them to heal enough for her to go off on her own again. At least safely. He hoped for her sake that her apparent distaste towards the herd wouldn't interfere with the obvious need to rest and heal up, especially in winter.
His ears flicked forward for a moment at her question, before returning to their usual turned-back position. He huffed a dismissive sigh, "Scouting," he answered simply. There wasn't much to do on this island for him; his herd was confined to their plot of land, and no matter how much he grumbled and frowned it wasn't making the foliage grow back any faster on their own island. He was still itching to kick the teeth in of at least one Bachelor, though, but he kept that to himself.

Greer sighed, stallions, she thought to herself."Come on, that cant be all you did." She proded "If im gonna stick around you cant be so boring." She chided, nosing his shoulder. She took note of his scent incase she ever needed it again. He smelled like pine and snow. The cold, cleansing snow had scrubbed away the burnt soot smell of the great fire. She halted, leaning on Delvin carefully. She was small enough that she wouldnt impare him very much with her weight compared to his. She gently massaged him, trying to be somewhat social as she rubbed on his neck.

Delvin returned the look she gave him at his lackluster answer, "It can, and it is," he insisted stubbornly. He really hadn't done much, to his annoyance. War was looming, though, and as much as he hated being idle, he wasn't necessarily looking forward to a war either. He didn't think much of it when the mare leaned against him; hell, he was surprised she managed to wobble her way over here in the first place let alone stand upright by herself. He bristled a bit when she started rubbing her neck against his, and in any other situation he would've taken a calculated step away from that situation, but he was honestly convinced the mare might've toppled over herself if he did. He had his reasons for staying on the outskirts of the herd, and situations like this were one of them.

Greer nibbled at some grass she managed to unbury from the snow, and then proceeded to crunch on some twigs. Yummy. She thought to herself. Winter was her least favorite season, being so small she found it hard to keep up with it, and there wasnt many places for a dark coated horse like herself to hide.
"So Delvin..." She trailed off. There really wasnt much else to talk about, their last meeting had been pretty short. Her mind wandered back to when she had kissed him. She wondered if he had liked it or if he didnt appreciate it at all. She hoped that if she mentioned it he wouldnt hate her. "So where's your mate?" She asked quickly, hoping not to annoy him. She had always figured he had a mate, possibly down in the herd or maybe even dead. Maybe thats why he was so bitter. She didnt know him well but he seemed kind of cranky. Or maybe he never had a mate and your just being stupid, Greer thought to herself.

Delvin snorted at the mare's next question. Lovely, another prying mind, he thought. He supposed Mirea was kind of like his mate way back when, but they had never declared it or made anything official. Besides, he hadn't seen her in years. He didn't even know if the fiery mare or her son was still alive. As for his herdmates, well... You don't attract much attention when you keep to yourself and skirt the group. Which, incidentally, was just how he preferred it. "Don't have one," he answered, scuffing one front hoof through the snow in front of him. It was definitely getting deeper, but remnants of edible grass could still be found if you dug around enough.

Greer felt a sense of releif as he answered but she disreguarded it. "Oh..." She said plainly. "I've never been much for romance either" She said, chuckling quietly. She had only ever had a crush on one horse, before she knew what a dick he was, but she didnt like to think about that kind of stuff.
They nibbled quietly on grass, before she wobbled over to a tree who had only a few leaves bearing its nearly empty branches, and layed down next to its trunk. She leaned on it, sighing in releif. Her aching muscles felt cold and peaceful as the cold frozen snow compressed them.

"Hmph," was the bay stallion's only acknowledgement. She was still young; she'd figure out the perils, pitfalls, and pleasures of romance eventually. That is, if some other insane loner didn't try and wipe her out like the one she told him about did. He watched as she limped over to a tree and plopped down into the white powder. He followed, lingering around the tree as he watched the surrounding land as per usual. He wasn't one for much herd interaction anyway, so he had no qualms about keeping his distance while he made sure some other calamity didn't befall the loner while she recuperated.

Greer woke up the next morning to sun shine, and a few inches less snow. Most of the snow around the tree had melted during the night, she guess her body heat had done it. She spotted Delvin a few yards off nosing the snow searching for the grass that was left. But...where was the herd? She looked in the woods and the surounding feilds but didnt spot them.
She waddled toward delvin, and proceeded to lean on him. The bleeding had stopped and her smaller cuts and scratched had scabbed over. The larger ones were pink and fresh looking but they werent bleeding anymore. The wet cold snow had washed off the blood and soot off her coat. "Good morning" She grumbled.

Delvin heard Greer as she somewhat clumsily righted herself and ambled over to where he was trying to graze. He lifted his head and noted how she looked around, ending up with a slightly confused look on her face, and he guessed she was wondering where the rest of the Exiles had gone. "They're not far," he announced, "Just on the other side of that hill," he said, nodding towards one of the rolling mounds of white. "How're your injuries?" he asked, wondering if she was sound enough to climb the hill or not. He liked to keep the herd in sight, at least, but he knew if something had gone wrong to the point where he couldn't have handled it, the herd would've heard him calling for help.

Greer nodded, slightly releived to now that help was close if it was needed. "They are ok, mostly scabbed, but ive stopped bleeding which is good. But my legs hurt like a bitch." She said with a small laugh as she walked toward the hill. She stayed close to Delvin, feeding off his healthy warmth. As she used the rest of the little strength she had to crawl up the steep hill, she nearly fell over but powered ahead with grunt. When they breached the slippery mound the herd lifted its heads and some whinnied in greeting. She smiled at them in a small attempt to be friendly.
