As she questioned the mare, a large blur of gray skittered towards them, killing several of the rats. Her eyes widened as Evalynn realized it was Kyanos who was barreling towards them, moving faster than she'd ever seen him move before. A blossom of respect unwillingly blossomed in her as she realized he put himself at risk to follow after her. He quickly pushed behind the wounded Exile, giving her a nip to get her moving, and while it hadn't been her Kyanos had bit, the action spurred the large paintaloosa into action once more, and she nodded quickly as he spoke, and surged forward, slamming her hooves into a larger rat that had tried to cut them off.
While she cleared a path for them, her sides clearly heaving in exhaustion, she tried to keep her flames large enough to dissuade the rats from trying to rush them, but she noticed every couple seconds her flames would falter, almost fizzling out even with her willing them not to. As they moved as a unit back to the safety of the church, she felt a tugging at her mane, and she glanced back, seeing the silvery mare was using it to keep upright. Soon the sight of the church came into view once more, and Evalynn moved a little faster, her muscles screaming in protest at the abuse. As they were nearing the doors, her flames flickered again, going out for a little longer, and it was enough for a rat to leap at the side the Exile mare was not on, and sank it's yellow fangs into her throat.
The sensation, painful as it was, did not scare her nearly as much as the flashback that she suddenly was fighting losing herself in once again. It brought back memories of the battle when it had been her teeth lodged in anothers' throat, and she forced herself not to think of it, instead shaking the rat off her with a quick hopping buck. Though successful is freeing herself of the vermin, the rat obviously intended on taking at least a chunk of her with it, and she felt an agonizing fire blaze across her neck as the rats teeth tore a sizable piece of flesh from her. She stumbled slightly, and ushered the mare into the church so as not to hold her up.
As Evalynn righted herself, she managed to keep in front of Kyanos, and when she heard him closing them off from the rats, a wave of relief swept through her, and she gazed into the building, seeing all of her group, and she assumed all of the other group, had made it into the church. Knowing that everyone was safe -relatively speaking-, had Evalynn letting herself succumb to her exhaustion, and she moved into the large room, folding her legs underneath her as she ungracefully dropped to the floor to lay down. Now that the adrenaline had faded, and her energy all but spent, she could now feel the various scratches and bites she'd received from the rats she had stomped. It seemed they had gotten their own small form of revenge upon her legs, but those were nothing compared to the missing chunk from her neck. Still, all Evalynn could do at the moment was lay there and pant, eyes squeezed shut in a grimace. The paintaloosa's black ears still swiveled slowly, listening to the quiet voices in the building. How she wished she someone she was close to here to comfort her, like she could hear Mercedes had.
