Salvatore | Stallion | Guard
The blonde Marwari continued to follow his leader in silence. His focus constantly darted back and forth from Prophet to the band of Bachelors in the distance, who now seemingly...
A curled ear swiveled backwards to Adhara as she spoke. "I think we've been heard..." Shit. Of course, it was inevitable. Salvatore's head immediately ducked, and he swiftly moved into Prophet's silhouette ahead of him. "Exiles, we must move cautiously," the guard spoke with a soft tone, barely loud enough for his team to hear. But he took a particular note toward the appaloosa's longing expression at the Bachelor ahead. Peering over his team leader, he squinted at the figure in the distance. It was a mare... a pale mare. Blue eyes flicked back to his own herdmate as he pondered the idea that they may be familiar with one another. Even Shiya seemed to focus on the Bachelors. Did she not care to be seen? And then she began to move, but not anywhere she could hide. Shiya began to break right for the bachelors, and with a snort, the dunalino perked up in shock. "Prophet," he called to his leader, caught between chasing after the fleeing mare or shouting after her before she got too far. Salvatore recognized not a single one of the bachelors, and knew that interaction with them may prove unsafe. But what was this mare thinking?

Aragon had heard Adhara say "I think we've been heard...". Aragon lifted her dished head and scanned over bachelors with her blue eyes. It was true, they were now aware of the small band of Exiles. "Damn." She mumbled softly under her breath. Seeing no point in keeping the gusts of wind blowing strongly she let the breeze now. It only gently pushed her mane back now. She saw Salvatore move so he was closer to Prophet. Aragon flicked an ear to Salvatore as he quietly said "Exiles, we must move cautiously," She nodded, understanding the severity of the situation. She let her head drop a tad and continued moving. Carefully placing her hooves on the grass so they didn't make a sound.
She noticed a shape move from the corner of her eye. She ever so slightly turned her head and saw Shiya was separating herself from the group. She looked to the mare, confused with her actions. "Shiya?" She called softly to the mare as she head towards the bachelors. She looked at Salvatore with a 'Whats going on?' look on her face. Her attention turned back to Shiya and looked more closely at the bachelors. She saw the orange and white colored pelt of a mare she had fought close to in the war among the Olde. 'I thought she was apart of the Olde herd.. Maybe she was captured?' she thought to herself.

Mercedes didn't respond to Akira at first, too busy being stuck in distant memories. She snapped out of it once the mare touched her, jerking back with a gasp and staring at Akira with a scared expression. She shook her head, shaking off the voices until she could focus. "Forgive me for... That." She huffed, giving Akira an apologetic look. No one should witness her freaking out, especially another mare that she didn't know. Mercedes collected herself, taking a deep breath and holding her head high. "Akira, please run back and find Kyanos. I know these horses, we can trust them," she spoke with a solemn voice, one much different than her usual peppy aura. She glanced past the larger mare, noticing a mare had broken away from the group and was trotting briskly towards the two. Merce smiled affectionately and reassuringly at Akira, nickering lowly to her. "Go ahead, I'm going to find out what they want." The small mare swallowed her nerves, stepping around Akira and walking forward to meet the approaching mare.
Mercedes walked a few more steps before stopping, holding her head high with the sliver of authority that she had. "You, state your name and purpose," she called to the mare, keeping any fear out of her voice. She couldn't let her old herd see her so scared, they might think she was unhappy and try to take her back. As much as she missed them, she didn't want to go back. It was a forever internal conflict that raged in her mind. As her blue eyes held the approaching figure in a steady gaze, she tried to remember if she recognized her. So far, nothing. She recognized the stallions, and Addie... Merce was reluctant the most to see her again, knowing that she might be angry with her for disappearing without a trace. What did Nicolae tell them about her disappearance? She shook her head, forcing herself to focus on the current task. Now was not the time to be worrying over bittersweet reunions.

Syria | Exile Scout | Mare
It seemed time had slow down. She heard the mare spoke of being heard and it wasn't long until one of the bachelor's was upon them. None of them had time to think or breathe. This stranger called out to the one that was walking away. Syria let out a soft sigh. Nothing. No one had said a word yet and the silence was eating her away. Though if there was one thing Syria was sure about was to never accept a mission without having tons of backup plans. Be smooth let her diplomatic ways carry her for like a wave to the beach.
"Hello there." Syria chirped to the mare offering a sincere smile to the mare. "I'm Syria and it's a pleasure." Head dipped respectfully to the mare as this was her land that they all tread on. "We are just making sure all the Exiles are safe and home. Word had spread that some may have stayed back. We are here to make sure all that want to return can return home." Syria nodded to her as she looked to her group and sighed. "It may seem like we have been sent on a wild goose chase." Syria chuckled cheeks looking flustered embarrassed a bit by it all. "Sorry if we have caused some issues. Though we do ask have you seen others?" Voice seemed to pipe up with a small amount of hope. Maybe they had seen the others. Maybe this all was for not.

[ Prophet | Exile High Guard | Stallion ]
As a mare trotted past the High Guard, he flung his head slightly upward in surprise. They'd been approached. Before he even knew what happened, Syria had put her diplomacy to work. Prophet breathed a sign of relief before approaching the Bachelor mare himself. "Greetings. I am Prophet, High Guard of the Exiles, and as miss Syria says, we are just seeking Exile stragglers. We hope we haven't startled anyone." Prophet's voice remained calm, but it had strength behind it. They meant the Bachelors no harm, after all. Especially not on their own land.
His eyes, however, wandered back to where the pale Bachelor mare had come from. She surely couldn't be out here alone. Not with Bachelor customs. The stallion tilted his head, eyeing the mare herself. Her coat was beautiful, though the side of her face bore a long scar. He winced slightly, but remained still and relaxed in posture.

{ Akira | Slave Brood } At Mercedes' worried tittering that she run back, Akira cracked a small half smile. "Well then I wouldn't be a very good companion if I did that now, would I?" she chuckled softly, "In the mere hours that I've known Kyanos, the old bachelor is probably headed here now since we haven't returned. I'm not going anywhere.." Taking a few steps forward, she once more lined herself up side by side with the smaller mare. "Let's go see what they want. I don't do well in conversation, so don't worry I'll let you handle that bit," she suggested.
Allowing Merce to take the lead, Akira took a deep breath and swiftly trotted after her pale companion, staying close to let Merce know she was there to support her, but also giving her enough space to handle the situation on her own. It was very apparent that she knew these horses...or at least the herd they came from. Though Akira couldn't help but wonder why she would have left the exiles for a ruthless herd such as the bachelors.. It didn't quite make much sense in the buckskin's head, yet she knew the topic was sensitive from Merce's anxious reaction so it probably wasn't a good idea to ask. At least not now.
One of the exile mares with a white coat peppered with a beautiful splash of maroon spots immediately lept forward, eager to introduce herself and to speak for her group, declaring that they meant no harm, "Sorry if we have caused some issues. Though we do ask have you seen others?"
So there were more. Glancing silently to Merce, she wondered what she would say in response. As for herself, it had been...years since she'd seen the exile herd. When she had only been a small filly, her mother had taken her to the exiles while they still inhabited the east isle. Her mother had a sister there...and in turn she had a son, Kiro, Akira's cousin. He'd turned out as a Loner just as she, though a thief...she'd seen him on their journey to the mysterious fourth isle, but..never got the chance to say anything. She hadn't known what to say really...he'd changed so much. Turning her gaze to the black and white paint who approached next and declared himself High Guard of the exiles. He must be the leader of this group... Her pitch black tail gracefully swung back and forth, though she remained quiet and watchful...as she'd always been since her mother's death. At this point, it was all she knew how to do successfully. She doubted anyone would recognize her from the visit so many years ago; however, it wasn't something she had taken into account until now. Hopefully if anyone did, it would only put the other group more at ease knowing there were two who were previous family of the exiles.

Aragon sighed. It seems they would have to confront the bachelors after all. She trotted up next to Prophet, almost matching his pace with her little leg, seeing as he and Syria knew what they were doing. The young mare watched curiously, seeing how the horses interacted with one another. Aragon said nothing but offered a polite dip of her head and a small smile. She looked to a buckskin mare that began to speak to them. She relaxed, seeing that the bachelor mare meant no harm. But the white mare with the scar on her face seemed.. stiff towards the Exiles. She acted as if they would attack her. "Others..?" Aragon asked aloud she pondered for a moment and shook her head. There was no point in lying to them and saying they had.
Just as Aragon was about to speak her ear twitch. "Prophet." She said suddenly and turned. The wind she was controlling carried an unfamiliar sound to her ears. Her nose twitched and we eyes grew wide. "Look." She said as the rats became visible. Her eyes shifted "They're on 2 sides." She said, the only reason she could tell was thanks to her wind. 'This is a bad situation.' She thought. One rat had came to close and Aragon had let out a burst of wind and sent the rat flying backwards. 'Pest.' she thought.

"No, I have not earned my gift yet," she said to finally answer Kyanos' question. She studied him curiously, intently listening to the other two mares as they went off together to investigate the voices. She stood close by him. The other mare, Evalynn, was keeping a tight lip, it was clear to see her uneasiness.
Iscah gave Kyanos a curious look but followed, going with him in the direction that the other two mares had gone. Soon enough they had caught up with the others but there was a surprise awaiting them; Exiles. She was shocked at first, questioning why Exiles were on Bachelor land, and especially in the city. There was a few of them, one of them being a blonde-haired stallion with curled ears much like herself, as well as a few cute mares. She moved ahead of Kyanos to approach the Exiles. "Greeting, Exiles" she chimed into the conversation, batting her lashes at the chestnut appaloosa.
She heard the rats before she saw them, their mangled grey pelts and red eyes sending chills up her spine. With a shriek and reared and moved to hide behind Kyanos. There was no way she was letting one of those disgusting creatures ruin her pretty coat.

Suddenly there were more voices that joined in with the two mares he had sent off. Kyanos could hear the conversation ahead. So far it was calm. No harsh words or threats had been thrown and he couldn't be more grateful that it seemed at least for now the mares had been able to keep out of any fights for the time being. It wasn't the presence of the other horses that made him suddenly pick up into an unsteady canter, but the other sounds he heard around them. Tiny little claws were scraping on the hard ground of the fallen city and they were approaching... quickly. He had to get to the mares before they did.
When he reached the side of Akira and Mercedes he tripped on a crack in the pavement, almost doing a face-plant into the hard, rough surface. Thankfully he was able to catch himself with a knee instead, but he had shred the skin off of the joint. The feeling of fresh warm blood dripping down his leg made him grimace, not because of the pain, but because of what he knew the iron smell was going to draw the attention of some very unwanted guests. He hardly heard Iscah's greeting to the other horses as he quickly jumped to his hooves, his ears pinning back as he heard the sudden dash of the rats as they suddenly poured in like a grey flood.
Any other time Kyanos would have kicked the mare for suddenly moving so close to him. If there was one thing he hated it was having others intrude on his personal space, but at this moment and time he found no way around it. In fact, they would be safest if they stuck together. Figuring the mare would move with him he threw himself beside the other two Bachelor mares and the Exile's who had met with them. "Stick close together." He demanded between gritted teeth. He didn't care if he wasn't technically in charge of the other herd, as far as he saw it they would be better off if they all stuck together. He'd worry about weather or not he could trust them later. If they cared for their life they would work together... right? His thoughts were not able to resign on the matter though as a rat flung itself toward him. Quickly he struck out a hoof to hit it on the off side of it's shoulder. He was reminded of a similar occurrence with the late leader of the herd. At least these were not as big as grass beasts. Another rat flung itself at him and he narrowly knocked it in the head, forcing a shrill squeak from the horrid creature. There were so many of them, and from the way they jumped into a fight with a group of several horses told him they were hungry, which meant they would stop at nothing to get a meal. Dammit! Now what?!

Salvatore | Stallion | Exile Guard
The Marwari grew considerably less paranoid as Prophet confronted the foreigners confidently, yet at the back of his mind he wondered how his herd could be so accepting of these foreigners. It seemed rather suspicious that the mares in front of his group were approaching without the presence of a stallion, and that's when it clicked in. Bachelors, of course. But where was their leader? These mares seemed to have no issue confronting his own clan, but he trembled at the thought of the way their captain may act.
One by one, the females spoke up and introduced themselves. Each of them were arguably very attractive, and seemed to be kind in nature - at least on the outside. At last, when the last mare made her introduction, Salvatore followed suit. "A pleasure to make your acquaintances," he blurted with a cool tone, not stating his own name as he made eye contact with each of them. And soon enough he noticed the bachelor male that the blonde lady with the flower crowns was nearly attached to - something the male did not seem entirely impressed with. The skinny Exile male made eye contact with the shorter grey stallion, pinned his ears and gave a respectful nod. "Sir," Salvatore spoke boldly acknowledging the presence of the Bachelor male, before pricking his ears and widening his eyes at his badly injured knee with a grimace. He was nowhere near as intimidating as bachelor stallions usually seemed, and that brought a great weight off Salvatore's back, at least for now, because bachelor stallions always had a somewhat intimidating aura about them. The dunalino watched with worrisome eyes as rats lunged themselves at the injured male, kicking away at any that got too close to his own hooves in order to lessen the amount that got to the wounded one. It was of his greater interest to offer assistance to this newcomer, but Salvatore decided it would be wiser to wait for prophet's lead before making a move that could, in the end, to be more foolish than anything.
But the rats just kept coming, and now they weren't only attacking the wounded, but they started clawing at the others as well. Bloody hell, what perfect timing. A pack of hungry rats was not what either of these groups needed right now. Salvatore felt two rats clawing and gnawing at his front pasterns, gently at first, until they drew blood - then the pain grew more excruciating. "Nasty little vermin," the Marwari hissed before lifting a hoof and crushing the skull of a rat between his hoof and the ground below, and as more blood dripped from his ankles, more rats swarmed at his feet.

Shiya | Exile Scout | Mare
Though she had grown oblivious to her company, Shiya had her attention fixed on the vision before her and nickered a sweet greeting. As swiftly as excitement and joy had filled her at the thought of finally seeing her Mother again, it was just as swiftly stomped out of her. Something was not right.... The whiteness she took for a large body of mane and tail moved as if it was a horse. No it was....when it had finally clicked within her sleep-deprived mind what she saw before her was not her Mother but two mares: a white and a gold and black, she was crushed. She crept to a stop a distance away from the two, confusion written plainly on her face as she stared at them. Flinching as the white one rose her voice to her, Shiya was at a loss. What could she say, how could she explain herself. But she was saved by herself when the one called Syria spoke up. And when Prophet chimed in as well, Shiya felt a heaviness weighing down on her heart and so she quietly crept back, her head low and ears drooped. Of course it wasn't her Mother, how stupid of her to think she would come to find her or even just happen upon her. Dully she watched as the other horses spoke amongst each other, even when newcomers arrived upon them, only moving to shake out her filthy pale gold coat at first. Then she heard it, tiny scratchy sounds scampering towards them. Snapping her head up to attention, Shiya pinned her ears back terrified at what she saw. Tiny gray creatures she had never set eyes upon swarming their way towards them. "Wh-what are they...?" her little voice trembling, before the rats suddenly leapt for the group. Squealing in fright, the mare thrashed herself about trying to loosen any creature that had landed on or bitten her, crushing any that unfortunately found themselves under her hooves.

[Adhara//Exile Scout//Mare]
"Shiya, wait!" Adhara's voice seemed to catch in her throat as she watched the younger arabian trot towards the Bachelors. Without giving another thought to anything, she charged after Shiya, intent on protecting the little mare she viewed as her sister. As she drew closer to the strangers, she heard the pale mare speak as she approached. "You, state your name and purpose," Her voice was unmistakable, it was Mercedes. Adhara's heart almost leapt out of her chest at the realization, only calming down as she heard Syria's diplomatic voice call out in reply. Time seemed to stop in that moment, and everything seemed like a blur. Horses were speaking to each other, feeling each other out, but she could only stand there in utter shock.
"Mercedes." She spoke the little mare's name softly as she walked towards her in a daze. Was this really happening? Was Mercedes really alive, or was it just some similar creature sent to torment her? "Is that really you?" Her voice grew stronger as she reached the pale mare, studying her momentarily before getting enough nerve to nuzzle her once lover's neck. "What are you doing here? " She whispered, the shock finally staring to wear off. "I thought you were dead!"
As she spoke, she quickly became aware of the other horses who stood nearby, conversing with each other. They seemed amiable enough, and things were looking like they'd still work out alright, even with the Exiles unable to gain intelligence unseen. Maybe they'd gain more info this way than they would have had they avoided running into the Bachelors. Remembering Shiya, she turned toward the small, shaggy mare, taking note of the disappointed look on her young face. Addie would have to ask her what she had been expecting once they returned home.
"Wh-what are they...?"
Shiya's worried voice caused the grulla to turn toward the oncoming attackers. "Rats!" Addie shouted, charging toward a rat as it leapt at Shiya. The little mare thrashed about, catching the rat in the head before Adhara slammed her fore hooves into the large, hairy creature's body, effectively snapping it's spine. "I'm so, so sorry..." She whispered, feeling her eyes well up in tears as she stared down at the lifeless body. Shaking her head, the appaloosa tried to blink the tears away so she could focus. There would be time to mourn the loss of life later, for now she had to ensure she wasn't morning the death of a friend as well. "Shiya! Merce! Stay close to me! We need to stick together!"

Evalynn followed behind Kyanos, and beside Iscah, now hearing the voices bouncing off the walls of the city. Mercedes sounded unsettled, but otherwise unharmed, though she wouldn't bet her life on it. So, as they closed in on the two mares location, Evalynn picked up her pace slightly, overtaking Kyanos. As the mares slid into her sight, her eyes widened as more horses were now beside the two. Her heart fell slightly, realizing they were not, indeed Olde horses like she had hoped, then her ears pinned back as she realized they were Exiles. As she neared the mares, she did a once over of them to make sure they were unharmed, though the Exiles postures didn't indicate they were or already had harmed the mares.
As she looked over the group, she saw two horses she recognized. Prophet and Shiya. They had fought for Olde during the battle. A tension she hadn't realized she had, lifted slightly.
Before she could say anything to the pair however, a scurrying and a plethora of shrill squeaking began sounding as rats started appearing. Her eyes widened as she saw they were not backing down from such a large grouping of horses, and a sliver of fear shot through her as she looked at their emaciated bodies, and determined eyes. Several of the faster rats flung themselves at the horses, causing Iscah to shy away and hide behind Kyanos. Not that it mattered. With how many rats there were, and seeing they weren't about to back off, she doubted hiding behind anyone would help the mare. As more of the rats began attacking, several crunches were heard as hooves stepped on the filthy bodies, not seeming to make even a dent in the squirming tidal wave of oncoming rats.
As several of the rats made their way towards her, Evalynn let out a feral whinny and reared up, crashing her hooves down on a couple of the rats. Without a second thought, an almost whip-like flame appeared and she willed it to engulf the group of rats that were coming her way, making sure not to hit any of the other horses.
"Kyanos! We need to get the group out of here! We're sitting ducks here!" she looked back at the gray appaloosa, her hatred for him replaced with a need to get the group to safety.

{ Akira | Slave Brood } The diplomatic conversation continued for some time as each of the two groups were silently trying to figure out what the heck the other one was really doing there. Merce continued to take the lead for her group of bachelors in speech but it wasn't long before Akira's ears swiveled behind her to catch the quick hoofbeats of Kyanos and the others. Right on time. It was a bit of an odd feeling. Being independent and on her own for so long, she never had to deal with the feeling of being excluded. Merce certainly had connections to a few of these horses and even from the sight of Evalynn relaxing somewhat, Akira was able to determine she knew some of the exiles as well. And when the graceful gray made her way to Merce, embracing her and showing her with soft, gentle questions of where she'd been, Akira's heart sunk a little. She was a loner. These connections were the things she purposely avoided, because she couldn't handle losing them. Yet it stung...knowing she was the outcast among everyone there. No one would recognize her. No one would care who she was because she wasn't part of a herd. She was a ghost. Ba'Yagu had certainly had perfect intuition when awakening her gift of invisibility...even though it seemed she already was pretty good at it without the physical power.
Taking a few steps away from Merce, she gave her and the gray some space, not staying particularly close to anyone, which is probably the reason why she was one of the first to notice...the dreaded rats. She heard the scratching of their tiny claws on the rock first, accompanied by the shrill squeaks that they'd found their target. She'd never seen such a wave of dirty grey and brown masses pouring through every crevice toward them before. Sure she'd seen rats, but never in this volume. And they were hungry... Her hooves skittered on the cracked pavement as Akira swiftly tried to back up, but her rump soon met other horse flesh as all the equines huddled together. At this point, it didn't matter finding herself squished between two stallions, Kyanos and the pale Marwari. There were too many of them! What were they going to do?! Why was everyone just standing here, they needed to move or they would be eaten alive! They were practically ringing the dinner bell, just standing around in a giant huddle. Akira's shrill whinny echoed throughout the ruins as one of the rats lept upward and latched itself onto the sensitive tendon beneath her heel on her left hind leg. Swiveling so she didn't accidentally land a hoof on one of the other horses, she bucked violently a few times, at last sending the culprit flying as well as a few of his furry, fanged friends. "Evalynn...?!" she called out nervously, knowing that her fire manipulation would be one of the only things that would do some good in this situation. A flash of orange and yellow answered her question as a group of the vermin went up in smoke accompanied by Evalynn's voice advising Kyanos that they needed to move.
"Evalynn's right! There are too many of them and they keep coming, we have to outrun them or we're going to be eaten alive!" she called to Kyanos, continuing to stamp her bloody hooves, the tender flesh up to her knees covered in scratches and bite marks.
