Ryder ran as quickly as his legs would take him. The dusty, dry air pulled at his mane, whipping it behind him in a flurry of brown and white. The heat of the moment burned out the stinging pain from the wound on his hindquarters where the bear's claws had dug into his skin. He was sure that it wasn't a serious one, and it was definitely one that he could mend on his own with his knowledge of herbs and a few other medical remedies. The problem would be finding the herbs needed to keep Kayden's large shoulder wound from getting infected. Ryder snorted, his brows knitting together nervously. 'I need to make sure everyone returns safely. I have to make sure this place stay safe for all of them and my family. I can't let my son grow up on that island where his mother might be taken away from him for some stupid deal.' The brown paint thought, powering himself onwards until the stream appeared before him.
Ryder came to an abrupt halt, stopping on the edge of the small, bubbling flow of water. A sigh of relief rushed out of his mouth at the sight of the flowing liquid. Hopefully, now his gift would be useful and work well enough to help quench the flames. "Alrighty, here we go." He mumbled to himself, closing his eyes briefly as his mind honed in on the water below him. The stream bubbled at the surface as orbs of water formed in front of him just as he had practiced a thousand times. His blue eyes opened, and a grin spread across his face at the sight before him. 'Perfect. Now, I've run with orbs before... hopefully, it'll work again.' Ryder inhaled a deep breath, turning away from the stream and taking off. The orbs followed after a moment of hesitation, and Ryder pulled them alongside of him.
After another long run, Ryder returned to the sight of the fire dripping sweat and limping on his back, right leg, but all of the balls of water had remained intact, and right now, that was the most important thing. The High Guard galloped around the flames to where everyone else was fighting the raging fire and saw something that he definitely hadn't expected. Ice covered the ground, leading to one of the Bachelor stallions, Varien. He could see the weariness on the other horse's face, and he understood exactly how draining using a gift could be. Ryder himself felt his hooves dragging slightly in the ground with each step he took, but he concentrated on his gift, keeping the water in the air beside him. Without a word, Ryder tossed a few of the orbs into the flames where Varien had focused the frost, extinguishing a small portion of flames to a smoldering pile of ash. At the success, Ryder continued, hovering more orbs until they were above the flames, and then, he dropped them into the fire that sizzled angrily at the water being cast on it. A small portion had been put out, but the main body of the fire was still raging. They would need a lot more water, dust, and ice to get rid of this flame entirely. "Keep it up, everyone! Stay strong!" Ryder shouted out encouragingly, trying his hardest to keep their strength up. "I'm going to go get more water." He said to no one in particular as he broke out into a gallop toward the stream once more.

Kaiser bellowed as they charged the bear and her cubs, managing to hold them off some. They had gained some time but yet had lost even more once the stallion realized what was going on. Fire... The stallion whispered under his breath, this land he had called home for many seasons stood ablaze yet again. He screamed in outrage, the dust catching in his throat and forcing it to end in a coughing fit. No... No! He thought to himself, How... No, this cannot happen again, it just can't! We'll have to turn and go back to the bachelor for aid again if we can't get this blaze out! He whimpered to himself, a deep fear he had always had implanted in him began to rise again, but now they were starting a second charge in hope to snuff out the flames. Kaiser could only hope that it would work.

Kayden pinned his ears and snorted at Jack when the other stallion ordered him to stay still, though he complied, or rather, couldn't bring himself to stand regardless. He watched the others continue fighting off the bears with something like anxiety turning in his gut. He was honestly quite helpless lying here, and every instinct he possessed was telling him to run.
And then the ground caught fire. At some point one of the bears' backs reignited and had set the surrounding land on fire. Memories flashed through Kayden's mind of when his home had first burned down. It had been red and hot, and he was lucky; he had gotten out without even getting burned, but he still remembered the sounds of those who had been less fortunate. A couple of blinks and a shake of his head broke that chain of thought as the chimera struggled to his feet. He glanced up and his brows furrowed in confusion at the sight of one of the bachelors...freezing the ground? It took Kayden a moment to realize that that must be the large stallion's gift.
That thought gave him pause though. He was having trouble moving as it was, and he didn't even have a gift...'useless' The word popped into his mind without his consent and he nearly flinched from it. Determined to prove his own subconscious wrong he limped forward until he stood beside the singular female of their group and began to snuff out some of the smaller flames with dust.

The bears had been wiped from their minds. A new danger demanded their attention.
Through the vast clouds of dust, the glow of the blazing soil seemed to diminish, and all at once there was an uncharacteristic chill in the air. Ruaridh couldn't quite work out where the chill was coming from, and as he dug his hind hooves in, and liberally flung clods of ground in fanned showers over the close vicinity, his eye caught the frame of one of the larger males in the bachelor group. Ryder flinging orbs of water, bending their paths and having them burst and drop onto the ground, sizzling as they evaporated to nothing.
Ru hopped, wincing as the slices over his hind legs opened with each movement, oozing yet more blood that trickled down the medial aspect of his thighs. He stood for a moment, the familiar glitter of morning frost, and the way their breath hung in the air. Varien was visibly struggling, tired and yet putting his whole effort into it and Ru could only marvel at his courage. He hobbled towards where the male stood, giving an encouraging nicker. "Ryder, perhaps try to drop water nearer Varien!" Anything would be a help, given the strain on the male's features and if nothing else dousing his surrounding area with water may prevent scalding.
The flames retreated as the frozen fingers of Varien's consciousness spread far and wide, radiating from his hooves by the power of sheer will and determination that came deep from the soul.
He looked between the others, still busily pulling together and working as a team. They were exhausted, and yet they were fighting hard. He narrowed his gaze against the dwindling flickering of suffocating flames. As the frost advanced, the fire receded as if being whipped by a relentless master. They cowered, and hissed and yet found themselves wanting. They grew smaller, some of the lesser flames started to snuff. It was working, the power of winter against a raging, parching summer. Varien and Ryder, along with their team mates were pushing the flames into submission. He frowned, finally resuming scooping dust onto the smoldering ground, and stamping the embers to nothing.

Varien's concentration nearly blocked out the small mare that came up beside him. Why would she support me? A Bachelor male? The questions were quickly erased from his mind as he felt his focus slipping. There was no room for error at this point. The stallion could feel small crystals forming on his hooves, but the ground was another story. There was merely a thin blanket of frost, barely enough to keep the flames from spreading to more ground. His muscles were trembling with the effort, but he dared not relent. A little more... Just a little more....
With a hiss and a wave of dust, Varien jumped slightly as Ryder dropped water on the flames in front of him. They were extinguished, but there was still more patches of fire that they would need to douse in order to defeat this. Breaking away from the smoldering ground before him, Varien trotted over to the next area, getting as close as he could to the wildfire without getting burned. Already he had felt sparks and coals hit his chest and legs, leaving minimal burn marks. With a deep breath, he reoriented himself, shutting his eyes and drawing more liquid from the ground, as well as his own body, in order to create a frosted barrier around the fire. Varien's mouth dried, and he felt a runny substance coming from his nostrils and dripping down his lip. His gift was taking a toll on him.

Shocked still for a moment at the other stallions' displays Ace forgot to help. Both of them had their gifts. The dark chestnut had never seen any other horse use its gift before. What a strange thing ice flowing from ones hooves and water following the other. Ice crawled slowly toward the flames and that paint, Ryder, had splashed water extinguishing some of the flames.Unfortunately Varien's frost didn't seem to be very effective and the blue stallion was already looking more and more exhausted by the minute.
Snapping out of it he surged forward skidding to a stop. This sliding motion sprayed a thick wave of dust over a small area. The fire died down enough there that he was able to stomp out the rest. Embers burned the scarred flesh around his ankles and he winced slightly before stomping them out completely. Jumping to the side he pick up his hooves and showered down more dirt upon the sparks for good measure.
There that patch was dead now onto the next. Once again charging forward before sliding to a stop next to Varien he sprayed dust over the flames hoping to at least subdue them for a moment.

Ryder galloped back to the stream, panting heavily as he reached the water's edge. Sweat dripped off of his body, and blood from the wound on his side oozed down his leg. He was utterly exhausted from the fighting, running, and overall stress of the day that he had had, but the paint stallion took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves and replenish his body of clean air before he pulled up orbs of water from the stream once more. A determined frown set on his face and knitted his brows together. The fire couldn't destroy this land, their home. Ryder didn't know if he could live with himself if it did. It would be his fault for not thinking of a better way to put out the flames and ultimately save the herd, and he would also be accountable for his family's well-being. The Exiles were not meant to be on the Eastern island. They needed to be here; the Southern island was theirs and theirs alone. The Thoroughbred cross surged forward, dragging the balls of liquid alongside of him as he galloped back toward the red, hot flames that sent waves of smoke into the darkened sky above it. 'Come on. Just a little more.' He urged himself forward continually until he finally pulled up beside his herdmates and the Bachelors that had come to their aid. Ryder looked out at the fire for a brief moment with a proud smile, seeing the two opposing herds working so closely together against one force. The fire itself had died down considerably. Its circumference had at least shrunk in half since he had left last. They were doing it. They were defeating the fire! Ryder moved forward, and the spheres of water hovered over the heart of the fire where it was trapped from the layer of ice that Varien had created around it during his absence. With a deep breath, he sent them falling, dropping the water over the large fire. His ears perked up to the sound of crackling and sizzling as the water and fire fought for control, and with nerves knotting up his stomach, he watched as the tall flames died down to a more containable height... or at least Ryder hoped that it was more containable. Just as he was about to go get more water from the stream, Ryder felt his legs buckle beneath him, sending him sprawling on his knees. The stallion grunted heavily, barely able to lift himself back onto his hooves. The running and the heavy usage of his gift had drained his energy and made him barely able to lift his hooves off of the ground. 'No, not now. I have to keep helping. We're so close.' Ryder thought frantically, looking at the other tired horses around him. Snorting in frustration at himself, he forced his legs to carry him toward the fire. His blue eyes caught the movements that Ace was making, and he began stomping along the edges where the fire was still crackling on the ground below him. The tendrils of flames licked up at his legs and burnt his skin, making him flinch and grit his teeth in pain. Once that was stamped out though, Ryder moved to the next spot and then the next, slowly working his way around the fire. Word Count: 558((OOC: One more day y'all! Let's keep it up! Kayden was utterly exhausted and yet he continued to force himself to move; stamping out the flamed despite the heat and pain. He'd felt pain before, he could handle it. At least that's what he told himself mentally. Physically his body was telling him a completely different story. His legs were trembling, the movement of his hooves growing clumsier by the second. It didn't help that his already nasty shoulder wound had been disturbed by his movement and was still oozing blood at a rate a normal horse would have found slightly alarming; not to mention the smaller wounds on his hindquarters. Unfortunately for Kayden, he wasn't exactly a normal horse.
He paused for a moment when he noticed Ryder stumble, he wasn't about to ask the other if he was okay; it was obvious he wasn't, and none of them were. A quick glance to the side told him the large gray bachelor wasn't faring well either, though --again-- there was nothing the chimera could do about it other than continue to smother the flames by his feet.
It took Kayden a couple of minutes to realize that the world dimming around him wasn't because of the flames going out. A couple seconds later he realized he was quite literally swaying on his hooves, the sounds around him growing muffled. "Aw shit." Was all he managed to get out before his magenta eyes rolled up and closed as he fell to the ground, unconscious.

Sweat hung like a white lather over coats, and the air hung close, coating their lungs with the ash of a burning wilderness. Ru's eyes were burning, bloodshot. His fetlocks and tail were singed from his relentless stamping, and kicking into the burning beyond. Varien's ice shield was spreading, but the progression was slow. The parched ground and the dry air were playing havoc, and those using their abilities were struggling to keep up with the hunger of the flames. He only wished he could help. He wished he'd visited The Witch long before today and had been blessed with his gift, but as it stood, he was relatively useless.
Kayden's wavering registered in his periphery, he glanced to the side in time to see the stallion drop to the ground. Ryder stumbling pulled his attention away from the scene momentarily, and Ru was relieved to see that Ryder managed to scramble back to his feet. Finally he glanced to Ace, Fay and Varien. In a split decision, he sprung from the smoking ground, his fetlocks a glow with the promise of ember, and he cantered at a flat pace over to the sprawling chimera. Skidding to a halt, he lowered his muzzle to the shoulder of the exile male and nudged him, pawing at the ground.
"...Gods. Kayden?" He pawed at the male's back gently. He stepped away, adopting a somewhat barrier like position as he turned to watch the fray for a second.
The flames had diminished substantially. Cold fighting heat. They were down to a mere few square meters of angry burning to extinguish. As far as Ruaridh was concerned, however, Kayden was too close to the tide line, not only that but if they were to move- he'd not make it on his own in his state.
"CLYDE, ACE, Over here! Help me move him!" Ru bellowed, half rearing in the flickering light cast from the dwindling flames. It wouldn't be long now, and all that would be left would be the winding tendrils of smoke that would remain a memory to their battle.
He hoped to whatever force there may be that they could hold out for just that smidgen longer. Judging by the extent of glittering frost, and the recession of burning orange flame, they were on the home straight.

Fay continued to stand by Varien, trying to help keep his balance but also not be crushed by him if he collapsed. She watched in fear as Ryder stumbled and fell to the ground, exhaustion pulling his body to the ground like a boulder on his shoulders. Kayden was the next to fall. The blood from his shoulder caking his fur and slowly drying in a crusty mess. The first and degree catching in his open wound certainly wasn't good.
The small, fragile looking stallion lay motionless on the ground and Ruaridh rushed over to him to try and wake him up. Then Ace and Clyde where both called over to help him. "great" she muttered as only the slowly faltering Varien, her and Lantern where left to deal with the still threatening flames. Though they had died down Fay had to pull herself from the grey dapples side to kick dirt at the smaller patches of fire still left. It flickered and licked at her hooves and the scars from her past injuries started to burn up and open once more. She whinnied in pain and fear. "oh please, i can't do this again!" she wailed as she recalled the pain and terror from the great fire. The anxiety was getting to her but she had to shake herself from it again. More dirt was kicked into the air and ash covered her coat. The flames were no longer a threat and she had to fall to her knees to cough violently. Slowly blood trickled from her mouth as her lungs where teared from her body from the smoke. Her eyes, legs and chest burned and she lay completely battered with bloody burns re opening on her legs. Her consciousness was faltering and the world was blurring. The last flickering of the remaining fire caught her gaze and she could only stare at it. In her half conscious state she wheezed out "Kr-Kris…" as the flames took shape of a familiar face she had once known. But it disappeared as soon as it had came and she closed her eyes in pain. word count: 355

Jack tried his best to keep the stallion down, but stumbled and could only watch as he ran towards the flames. He shook his head, hurrying to the fire and trying to stamp out some of the flames that were branching off. He looked around for Kayden, taking a glance at everyone else. If anyone died, it would be his fault. He was a medic! he was supposed to take charge and make sure the injured were taken care off, not running off to get themselves killed! his mind was in a haze, and all he could do was watch as horse after horse fell, his lungs bunring. As the flames began to retreat, Jack began to run over to Kayden, before he noted Fay faltering, and stopped, running over to her. He quickly helped her up, and nudged her as gently as he could away from the remaining flames, looking at her reopened wounds, and the fresh burns as well "shh, Fay," he said softly, looking over to where Ru was calling others to move Kayden. He turned his attention back to Fay "you've done all you can. I need you to lay down, and listen to my voice. I'll make the pain go away" he said, glancing over at everyone else. He needed to tend to the burns and cuts from the bears quickly, or else infection would set in. "why did I leave my pack back at the herd, ugh" he scolded himself.
Jack began to look around for anything that could help sooth a burn, keeping an eye out for any signs whatsoever of lavender. If he couldn't find any, the best he could do was to douse the burn in water to cool it, and wait till they returned to properly treat their injuries. He looked to Varien, who seemed to be using the last of his strength into conjuring ice, and to Ryder, who was in the same situation. Jack gritted his teeth, and turned back to Fay "I'm going to get some water" he soothed.

It was becoming blatantly obvious that Varien's ability had run its course. All that the dappled stallion could do now was stomp out the flames just as everyone else was. Taking a step back, Varien swayed on his feet. He shook his head violently, trying to ignore the black haze that was forming at the edge of his vision and focus on the fire. With a small rear, he slammed his large hooves onto the nearest remaining flames. The action took a little longer to recover from than he would have liked.
Looking around, he noticed quite a few of the other horses out of commission. The small mare that was beside him was being moved so she wouldn't be injured, as was the ex Bachelor Kayden. Not many were left to smother the fire, but not many were needed.
Miniscule patches of fire were left, and they were easily subdued by the remaining equines. Only then did the large draft allow himself to succumb to the exhaustion of using his gift. With a cough and some stumbling steps, he turned away from the smoldering ashes to look upon the horses that were injured. "Is everyone alright?"

Fay lay in the dirt with a sense of peace as the sound drowned out from her ears and all she focused on was the dying flames. A small smile flickered across her muzzle as she whispered to herself "we did it" she had no energy to look up and see if everyone was all right but knew in her heart they could pull through this. A small exhale ended in a fit of coughing and rattled her chest cavity. She could only whimper and let Jack do his work so that the rest of the patrol could make their way back to the herd. The trip had been long and exhausting but the feeling in her chest of accomplishment was strong. She felt better knowing she had helped at least a bit to the others. She let her mind rest as she waited for Jack to return with water for her aching body. The thought that the exiles just might be able to return kept her at ease.

Ryder trudged forward, stomping out the remainder of the flames that still quietly crackled on the dry ground beneath it. His breath came out in short pants that rasped each time he breathed in. The smoke from the fire had taken its toll on him, and his ankles were burnt from the flames that he had stepped on, but as he looked out at the dwindling fire, he couldn't help but smile. "We did it. The fire is out." The stallion mumbled to himself, his voice hardly coherent. His legs quaked beneath him from the pain and exhaustion that he felt, but he knew that it wasn't over just yet. He had to push himself a little more to get his group safely back to the herd. His ears swiveled toward Varien when the ice-wielding called out to the horses around him. Ryder nodded silently, stilling trying to gather enough strength and breath to be able to speak. "For the most part, I think." He finally was able to croak out.
His blue eyes swept across the horses around him, most of whom were out of commission now that the flames were out. A silence filled the air in replacement of the crackling and sizzling of the flames. Nothing made a sound except for the wind blowing around them, and for the first time all day, Ryder felt a sense of peace. Maybe their herd would finally be able to come home to where they belonged. They wouldn't have to deal with the Bachelor and Olde herds' quarreling or have to fight in a war that wasn't their own. Maybe they'd get a chance to live happily and peacefully once more.
Forcing his burnt legs forward, Ryder stumbled to where Kayden had fallen unconscious on the charred ground. The wound on his shoulder still dripped blood, but it had slowed considerably. Ryder would definitely have to make sure to thank him after all of this was finished with. He had gotten that scratch because of him after all. The High Guard came to a stop beside the fallen chimera stallion and the Bachelors around him, focusing his attention on the Bachelor group's leader. "We greatly appreciate you and your herd's help, Ruaridh. We might have lost our island again if the bears and flames hadn't been taken care of, and I'm sure, by now, you're tired of seeing us Exiles running around on the Eastern island." Ryder rasped with a sheepish chuckle, dipping his head in gratitude at the other stallion. He then flicked his eyes from Kayden to Fay who was being helped by Jack and, eventually, he glanced down at his own charred ankles with a wince. It could be worse though, and it appeared that almost all of them had been injured in some form or fashion. Wounds healed, and all he could really think of, past the slight tinge of stinging pain, was the relief at the thought of coming home to the Southern island. A little pain was certainly worth that. Ryder turned to look for Kaiser, spotting him a short distance away. "Kaiser, would you mind helping me carry Kayden back once Jack gets back with water for Fay? We'll need to get moving as soon as possible. We can't risk being out in the open when we're so vulnerable right now." Ryder asked, stepping away from the unconscious stallion to the young mare. Her breath was raspy from all of the smoke and soot that she had inevitably breathed in, but Ryder fought away a sympathetic look. Instead, he stepped in front of her, locking eyes before giving her a proud nod of his head. "You fought hard, Fay. Khala and the rest of the herd will be proud to know how well you did. Rest now though. Jack will be back soon with some water." Ryder assured her, offering a friendly smile as he gazed out into the darkness.
