Much like the others within the two groups Clyde heard the loud roar and his reaction was no less the same. His head quickly moved to look in the direction of the beast and his blue eyes grew rather wide. He had never seen anything like an Ash Bear and a set of cubs before so this was very new to the large stallion, he pulled his ears back to the sides of his skull and looked to the rest of the group. “How are we suppose to deal with something like this?” He asked himself as he just sat there in wonder, his attention was soon caught by the mare known as Fay. He moved his gaze to the darkening sky and nodded his head to agree, “That just might work” he said to himself once more before looking to Ryder who now spoke. “Not to sound rude or anything but there’s water around here?” Clyde opened his mouth before even thinking, it was rather hard to think that any type of water flowed onto this land or anywhere close enough to them but then again anything was possible right?
“But I do agree with Fay…..” He soon added as he looked back at the bear and her cubs, they seemed to only be getting closer to the group and in no time that mother may be on top of them. Looking over to Ruaridh for their order’s or if he agreed with the mare as well.

While Kayden appreciated the fact that Ryder didn't make him walk next to any of the bachelors, he couldn't help but heave a sigh as the brown paint placed himself right next to the chimera. 'Please, for the love of whatever sadistic god is listening, don't talk to me.' He growled internally, purposefully glaring straight ahead as to discourage the other as much as possible.
His head and ears snapped up when the roar rang out across the landscape, his eyes narrowing when he caught sight of the bear and her cubs. "Thank you captains obvious." He muttered as Ryder and Jack both apparently felt the need to state out loud that the bear shaped creature walking towards them was, in fact, a bear. He rolled his eyes and snorted at their fearless leader's genius 'plan'. "Not to sound like and asshole, but where the hell are you gonna find water in a barren wasteland? Specifically a burnt-to-a-crisp barren wasteland," He snorted at their leader, "and I can't believe I'm saying this but the kid has a point." he said, jerking his head towards the filly. He thought for another moment before adding, "I think if we can make enough noise to be louder than it, that might scare it away as well...also..." he tailed off for a second to kick at the dusty earth, "Dust can be used to put out a flame just like water can, and there's plenty of that around."

Jack narrowed his eyes slightly as he heard a whisper of Kayden's rude remark, glancing back at the stallion. He pushed his ears back, and looked at Ryder, then Ru. This plan seemed hardly believable, but it was really all they had at the moment, unless someone thought of something else. He sighed softly, and took a quick glance around their surroundings, licking his lips. If Ryder's ability was strong enough, he could draw vapor from the air, as dry as it was, or possibly one of the remaining trees or bushes. He knew Ryder was strong, but was unsure how strong he could control his ability, as he had never seen it for himself.
Jack looked over at the other members of the bachelors. They were mostly large horses, and if they charged together, hopefully the bear would fear of losing one of her cubs to them, and would leave. One could only hope right now. He looked to Kaiser, who had seemed to already tango with some large beast, evident from the gashes in her neck. Jack was surprised he had survived those, but was glad that he did. Now, he would have to face a large creature once more, with the rest of the group. If they worked together they could do this.

The acrid air surged up each cavernous nostril, and scorched the impression of his surroundings to memory. There was nothing he wanted more than to forget the barren, and parched land in which they wandered. He strode beside Ryder, acutely aware of movement on the horizon, and with each step that drew them deeper into the hollow lands, Ruaridh was sure that the glow on the horizon was no longer as a result of the setting sun. He narrowed his eyes against oncoming darkness, and the shapes that manifested, were all too clear. If he were brutally honest, he was expecting the worst so this was almost as close. An Ash bear mother, her back ablaze, and her progeny. He cursed silently, the echo of his mind enough to sound the inward grimace of a tone repeatedly. As the group slowed to an uneasy halt, however, he tilted his ear to each voice in turn, as pretty much all present said their piece.
"...The air is far too dry, and we have passed no water so-" He smiled gently over at Clyde, and then at Ryder, keeping his eye and attention firmly adhered to the creatures that hulked towards them. Dousing the flame with water would be nigh on impossible- they'd need a miracle in the form of copious rain, and that wasn't about to happen.
He eyed the young mare, and the large chimera in turn, obviously mulling over their utterances and scheming behind eyes that served as nothing but bolted doors. His expression blank, and oddly calm despite the rising tension.
"Both Fay, and Kayden's ideas have potential... In combination." He inclined his head in an acknowledging not, and moistened his lips, ears twitching with a carefully measured level of anticipation. His attention remained half adhered to the threat at all times.
"We have enough in the way of number to charge en-mass. Not only that, we can create the noise, and mass the attack necessary to bewilder them AND stir the dust to choke the flame..." He uttered almost under his breath but audible over the sounds of silence, careful not to draw more attention to the group.
"Now, by my reckoning we'd need two groups. One to bombard them with noise, and the power of mass; and a smaller one to work under the shroud of distraction to douse with dust-" Ru quirked a brow, nibbling over his lower lip in thought. "We have sweet little time to decide, though... Speak up-"
Though they were upwind, their trajectories were to intercept at some point.

Ryder frowned in thought as one of the Bachelors, who he thought he remembered being introduced as Clyde, and Kayden both spoke about the lack of water in the area. "You'd be surprised how much water you can find in a desolate place." He countered though his tone of voice remained calm and even, not wanting to cause any more conflicts than there already seemed to be. Sighing quietly, the brown paint closed his eyes, focusing his gift to search for any signs of liquid nearby. That was one of the plus sides about his gift: being able to sense small bodies of water from certain distances. But, after a moment of feeling mostly dry dust and ash, the High Guard snorted. "There's a small stream nearby, but I don't think it'll be enough to do any good." He admitted, wishing his gift could be a little more useful in their predicament. It would have been pretty accomplishing to actually put his hard work in honing his gift into action.
At Kayden's suggestion of somehow tossing dust into the bear's flame, Ryder nodded, thinking of how they could do that without getting dangerously close to the predator. It sounded like it wouldn't be a very easy task to do, but it was worth a try. When Ruaridh finally spoke up and gave him a small smile, Ryder returned the smile to him with a sheepish one of his own. 'They all think I'm stupid.... This is going swimmingly.' He thought sadly. Maybe he should just hang back and let everyone else voice their plans first like Ruaridh had, and then figure out a plot from there. This whole leadership thing was so new to him, and Ryder felt like he was trying desperately to get his herdmates to like him after many of them had thought that he wasn't fit for the role of High Guard. 'Try to relax. You aren't doing yourself any good by thinking like this.'
Taking a deep breath, Ryder spoke once more, putting a bit more confidence into his tone. "Let's do this. Two groups sounds like a good idea. I think some of the bigger horses should be apart of the group that makes all of the racket, soooo..... Clyde, Kaiser, Jack, Ace, and Varien if you all agree. The rest of us can follow up and try to get rid of the bear's flame by stirring up some of this dust. Plus, it'll be even harder for the ash bear to see all of us with all of that going on."
Ryder gave the group of horses an encouraging nod, hoping to get rid of some of the nervousness that must be going through them at the sight of the dangerous beast. "Is everyone ready?" He asked just as the bear stopped in her tracks, peering into the darkness at the group. It stood up on two legs, trying to look as big and menacing as it could as it roared at them. It came down with a thud and charged, pounding through the dust covered ground toward them. "And here we go." Ryder mumbled under his breath, tensing his muscles to prepare himself for when the rest of his group took off.

Dipping his head gratefully to the exiles and Clyde he passed out a few 'thank yous' before hurrying off in his position near Lantern and Fay. The lanky white thoroughbred next to him was unfamiliar, as were most of the Bachelors chosen to go on this mission. Ace wondered if Cain had isolated him like this as some sort of punishment. Perhaps the pale Marwari hoped that if this sickness didn't finish him then some sort of predator out here would. He wasn't sure his leader cared whether or not he lived. They hadn't been on the best of terms, it wasn't even Cain's fault really. Although he would never admit it out loud he actually had quite the amount of respect for Cain. He was almost decent, not a brainless brute like some of the others. Perhaps he could earn Cain's respect as well on this trip. Not like it mattered anyways, he would be free of the Bachelor herd one day.All he had to do was wait until his sister was ready.
Nodding he agreed, "I can be quite loud."
It was true. Oh so very true. The donkey side of him allowed him to bray. It was obnoxious and a rather awkward sound but maybe the bear would be intimidated by it.

Fay wanted to pin her ears in annoyance. Her small size sent her into the group who wouldn't only stir up dust? "aw, you big guys get all the fun" she muttered playfully to the tall, muscularly built stallions. It would be an adrenaline rush to charge towards a flaming ash bear! and what a story it would make. but no matter, she had no choice but to join the smaller stallions to stir up a dust cloud and try to snuff out the bear's flame. she uttered a small sigh and in moments like these she wished she was a huge draft. "so how is this going to work? I get one group charges and all. but the rest of us run by and cause the ash to stir up? or?.." she sounded stupid for asking but didn't want to have the wrong idea and mess it all up.
ROAR!- the earth shaking growl from the charging mother bear made all the horses stand erect and alert. The aggressive and obviously angry mama began bolting towards them. Her large paws made it sound like thunder was coming like a uncontrollable storm towards them. There was no time for anyone to answer Fay and they needed to get their plan into action now. The group meant to make noise charged and Fay hurried after with the others, rearing and shaking her head in determination. The snorting horses ran towards the family at full throttle. Suddenly the thought of getting burned by the ferocious bear struck her and she feared for herself and the others.. The crippling pain of being scorched by flames came back to her and she wanted to halt in her tracks but determined to prove worthy, she thundered on.

Varien's attention never shifted from the family of bears, but he continued to listen. A feeling of distaste for the Exiles began to grow in him the more they spoke. They had absolutely no respect for their impromptu leader. It was not Ryder's fault that there was no water. The paint stallion was most likely not used to there being a complete and utter lack of liquid in the area. Even if it was a absent-minded idea, it was still better than anything anyone else was offering up. Varien thought about "accidentally" kicking Kayden during the hectic plan, but decided he would wait and see if there was a good opportunity for doing so.
As the group argued over what they would do, the bears caught the large group of equines in her sights. Immediately threatened by the large beasts, the she-bear let loose a defensive roar. Her cubs, timid as they seemed, also seemed like they would turn aggressive if anyone were to approach. With another smaller, quieter roar, the mother ash bear stood before charging at the group. If she had not made a sound before, the rest of them may have been unaware of the approaching predator, and casualties would be imminent. With nostrils flared, the dapple stallion reared slightly as he broke into a gallop, directly at the bear. As he neared, he focused on her trajectory, thinking about where he should stop, and how far away she wold be able to attack.
"Stay at least six feet from her! And do not underestimate the cubs," he reminded over the sounds of shrieking horses and small flurries of dust. Varien listened for any sounds of smartassery, ready to "accidentally" get after someone.

Words would do no good here, only their actions in the coming moments would determine their fate. He huffed a soft chuckle at Fay's reaction to the plan, and quirked a brow, but his expression fell almost instantly. There would be no time to explain, he would have to rely on theirs and his own common sense to get them through.
The atmosphere shattered, and his attention swung with little hesitation to be confronted by the razor edged grimace of a mother who feared for her cubs. Fear aggression and rage etched sourly on the beast's expression as she lurched forwards offering her hollow war cry. Her jowls slicked with frothy saliva, and her eyes bloodshot reflecting the surging flames that were destined to be choked out.
Ru hopped on the spot, drawing himself into a neat half rear, his chin pressed to his chest and his eyes focussed with a soul-filled determination. The she-beast meant business, though she may have been bulky she picked up momentum quicker than Ru was expecting, and though the Cubs appeared nervous they fed from their mother's bravado and pursued her at either flank hanging just a whisker behind. They were getting far too close as far as Ru was concerned, and each had a mind of their own. He was sure that the larger male cub had sighted him, but chose to ignore it.
The fjord kicked up his heels and tanked in the same direction as Ryder, his thick legs thrown forwards and pumping like pistons. His companions sent off on a different path, Ru glanced at them briefly before turning his attention back to the matter in hand. Their heavy footfalls, and their throaty bellows appeared to take the she-bear by surprise, and yet her resolve didn't appear to falter even though she slowed her pace. There was one thing, though, as Ru drew chest to chest with the Exile leader-
"Keep them as a unit! Make sure they don't splinter..." He whinnied, pushing on with a hefty snort and tossing his head. Keeping an eye on three entities rather than them running as one would turn the tables quickly, even despite their numbers.
His gallop was fluid, with a long and effortless stride. The vibrations through the ground from dozens of pairs of hooves felt more like a quake than a stampede, but then the creatures wouldn't know the difference. Confusion from below, and from above with battle cries that he was sure would alert others to their position. They'd have to deal with that particular issue should it arise.
The groups drew closer, and the bear and her cubs powered on to the point where Ru could pick their individual scents from the fray. His breath came in violent gusts, vibrating his nostrils. The cloud of dust already in their wake was spectacular, he only hoped that they could muster the same in the few short strides they had left before impact. The male cub growled softly, his hollow eyes settling on the group approaching from the left.
"Keep it together!" He almost barked, calculating the point to turn and skid, to send the torrent of dust necessary to choke their quarry.

Ryder took deep breaths of the already dusty air, staring down the bear and its cubs as they charged toward them. He had had hopes that the cubs would stay away and that they would only have to deal with the mother bear, but of course, the cubs were glued to her sides, running with her toward the large group of horses. Slobber and foam formed on the sides of the ash bear's mouth, and its roar pierced the silence around them. If any other creatures heard all of this noise, they would be sure to come and investigate, but they would have to figure that out later. Right now, they needed to fend off this bear and scare her away.
As the other group split off and charged toward the bears, screaming and hollering, the Thoroughbred stallion galloped after his own group, catching up to gallop beside Ruaridh. His slender legs pumped underneath, carrying him with ease across the ashy ground. His nostrils flared as he tried to keep his breathing even. The bears seemed to be getting closer and closer, and it was much too close for Ryder's liking. But, they had a job to do, and it meant that they would have to get close to these dangerous beasts until they had reclaimed their homeland.
His torn ear flicked toward the Fjord stallion beside him as his whinny spoke over the thundering of their hooves, and Ryder nodded in understanding. Better to keep them together and not have to look for and chase after three separate predators. "Got it." The High Guard called back, praying that everyone else had heard.
They got closer to the mother ash bear and her babies, and Ryder could smell the musky scent of the beasts mixed with the burning fire on their backs. His mind flashed back to the fires that had raged over their home, destroying the land they had taken so much time in tending to and nourishing it. Shaking his head, Ryder pushed back the horrid memories of that time, focusing instead on the task at hand. It wouldn't be long before they ran right into the beasts, and if he didn't focus when they turned, he could end up skidding right into the bears claws.
His heart hammered in his chest, seeing the bear and her cubs getting nearer and nearer. He could see the menacing glint in her eyes and the primal need to protect her cubs and her territory. Only a couple of horse lengths away from the deadly sharp teeth of the ash bears, Ryder shouted. "Turn now!" The brown paint put on the brakes, skidding to a halt and putting as much weight as he could in order to toss up the dust under his hooves at the bears. He heard the bears cough and choke, but the dust that came up around them smothered any sight of them.
After he had stopped, Ryder quickly took off again, darting in the opposite direction to get out of the bears' path. Dust clogged his nose and mouth, and he coughed lightly at the choking sensation of the thick air trying to go down his throat. "Is everyone alright?" Ryder asked, blinking his eyes rapidly to get rid of the ash in them so that he could catch some sort of sign that the two groups were alright. If anyone were to get injured, he would feel like it was his fault as their leader. He should be there to protect them and make sure no one was hurt or worse even on this dangerous mission to track down bloodthirsty predators. 'Please let everyone be safe.'

He could already feel adrenaline pulsing under his coat. The last time he had been near any sort of bear it had killed his brothers. Ace hated bears, but he had to admit he didn't like the idea of harming a cub. Youth of any sort should be cherished and protected. But then again these were bears. Cruel, heartless, evil bears. Letting out the loudest, most deafening bray he could he heehawed and high tailed it towards the growling monstrosity. Ears pinned past what should have been physically possible he arched and curled his neck like a snake before braying again. The smallest cub looked up at him with hate filled eyes, fearful from the weird looking long eared food no doubt. Stupid cub charging alongside his mother like that, he should have stayed behind where it was safe and far from hard falling hooves.
Picking up both feat he reared a little then hopped kicking out towards the bear. It didn't hit her, it was just a warning blow. It was enough to get a growl out of her though. He could feel her slobber spatter across his pelt as she whipped her head from side to side. Muscles flexing he prepared to lash out at the creature.
He nodded when Ryder spoke. He probably couldn't see it whether Ace had been okay or not. "Not eaten yet," he replied to the exile leader with a laugh.
The mule almost wanted to fight though... almost.

Nodding his head, Clyde made his way next to the other larger stallions that had been picked to make the loud noise. He stood there proud and ears to a point, he was ready for anything as they waited for the word. A sudden angry and enraged roar pierced his ears sending them to the back of his skull. “Great” he snorted as he shifted his gaze to the mother bear who now was charging at them, this was just what they needed her and the two cubs ready to eat them. “I sure hope this plan works” he said to himself as he dug his right hoof into the ground under him causing a small dust cloud to form which he now began to regret for the moment. At this point in time Clyde was ready to take off after the mother bear and make as much noise as he possibly could, waiting for the word he looked to Ryder and Ru for the go. Once the word had been given Clyde let out a loud whinny that seemed to race with the group as they approached the mother bear, his hoofs sounded like thunder as the pounded onto the group. He made as much noise as he possibly could as he let the smaller horses make the dust cloud. Once the group had turned around he first seen Ryder and knew that they must have done something right? He didn’t stop pounding his hoofs or letting out angry sounds till he would see the rest of them come from the large cloud.

Kaiser | Exile | Guard | Word Count: 325 Kaiser had taken to silence as everyone began debating on a plan. He was in his own little world knowing that there were three bears right near him, and that he now had to charge at said bears and kick dust up to hopefully put out their flames. Mind you, they were only putting out their flame temporarily! Why had the stallion been chosen for this task?! He hated bears, ash or quiver backs, he hated the damned creatures after what they did to his mane! The stallion glared at the creatures, only stopping once Ryder had directed him to join some of the bachelors, 'great just what I need to do' the stallion growled to himself as he walked to the group and ready to fight if any decided to call him out on his past.
After joining the others he bellowed as they made their charge, the sound echoing from deep within his chest. After nearing the creatures the stallion decided upon a risky move; as they got within fifteen feet he slid on his side, allowing a large billow of dust to puff out into the air. He bolted to his feet and carefully aimed a hind kick at the mother bear's head as he ran a safe distance away. He made contact, he felt that, but it wasn't enough to kill her. With a snort Kaiser came to a stop in between Ryder and Kayden. "Ryder I don't think we have any choice now but to go in and fight them! Their flames will be out temporally, if we go in quick once the dust clears we should be able to at least take the mother down!" Kaiser said quickly and loudly, coughing as the ash stirred up as he tried to speak over all the loud noises. He could barely make out the two stallions he was standing next to as the ash hit the wind and picked up.

Jack took a deep breath as they stared at the oncoming bear, the darkness eliminated from the area due to their bright flames. He looked at the other members of the charge group, and back to the bear, cracking his neck before readying himself to run. He took deep breathes as they began to move, heading towards the bear. As he moved, he stomped his legs down hard, trying to make his footsteps as loud as possible, and bellowed at the bear, ears back. He was glad he was particially deaf, and expected to be fully when this was said and done. He bared his teeth and made his way forwards with the other large stallions.
As the other group kicked up ash, Jack's voice quickly got hoarse, and he felt the need to cough come, but continued to stomp and yell at the bear, who seemed to be coughing just as much as Jack felt he needed to. When the large cloud of ash arose, Jack shut his eyes, and moved backwards, his yelling faltering as he coughed, his chest heaving due to the ash. He kept his eyes closed, and stomped his feet hard, opening his watering eyes to look at those around him. He heard Ryder's words, but could do little to answer.

Ryder blinked his eyes rapidly to rid them of the dust and ash that had risen from them kicking it up. He searched through the cloud, looking for any signs of anyone to finally see a few dark shapes amongst the dust. As the large-eared, Bachelor stallion, Ace, spoke, Ryder couldn't help but chuckle a little bit. "Good, I hope it stays that way." He responded back, coughing quietly on the particle-filled air floating around him.
His torn ear swiveled toward Kaiser as he trotted up beside him and nodded. The bear's flames wouldn't be choked out forever by the ash. Kaiser was right; they would have to fight or somehow scare it off, but from the angered state it had been in, the mother ash bear didn't really seem to be intimidated by them at all. "I think if we run at her while her flames are out, we might be able to scare her off and chase her somewhere. I don't like the idea of anyone fighting her even in a group as large as ours... those claws are awfully sharp, and it wouldn't take much to seriously hurt someone. If we can't scare her off though, fighting might be the only choice we have left." The brown paint said, shifting his eyes over the scars on Kaiser's mane that were obviously from some sort of large beast. Ryder worried what seeing another predator was doing to Kaiser's state of mind and prayed that he kept a cool-head even with his past situation with deadly animals. They didn't need anyone freaking out or putting themselves in danger for no reason.
Ryder squinted into the dust as it was picked up by the wind. The bears were nowhere in sight, and the flames that had distinguished them against the darkness where gone. 'Great, if the bear was smart enough, it could-' Ryder didn't have a chance to finished his thought as he felt something heavy hit from the side. The smaller stallion grunted, falling onto the dusty ground as the huge mass ran into him. A surprised whinny escaped him when he finally caught his breath again. The ash bear mother was standing over him, rearing onto her hind legs and ready to slash down at him with her long, sharp claws. The bear had used all of the dust as a cover! The beast growled, a noise that rumbled deep within her chest. One of her massive paws was on his hindquarters, hindering him from scrambling away from her and back to safety. "A little help over here!" Ryder croaked out, spitting out ash that had found its way into his mouth.
