Kaiser | Exile | Guard | Word Count: 301
Kaiser walked on, nodding with satisfaction at Ryder's answer. The sun was falling in the sky basking everything in red and gold tones the stallion was neutral. Slightly agitated from Fay's remark but was fine since her apology. He still didn't understand why the mare had even made it but right now wasn't the time to ponder it, instead wondering why the mare had come up next to him as if she was scared. He looked down at her with a raised brow before turning his attention back onto the shadows lurking around them, checking for grass beasts.
As Kaiser was keeping his eyes out on the horizon he came close to letting out a warning scream as he noticed a group of horses not far off. As they got closer his hair on his withers to his haunches rose after realizing it was a group of Bachelor stallions. Hearing the others muttering about them the stallion growled low in his chest, some of them probably knew why he had been chased off and he did not want to deal with anything relating to that right now. He pinned his ears back, lurching forward half a stride to hide Fay from their sight partially on instinct of protecting the group the other half knowing what the stallion could possibly do. Have done, think about doing to such a small mare. As they approached Kaiser brought his head down and pinned his ears back, he didn't attack, yet, instead spoke out to his leader to let him know what was going on with one of his guards; "Ryder..." He growled, "I do not like this," He said simply glaring forward at the group they were approaching. He did not trust them, and they would be lucky if he did not attack.

Ryder slowly walked forward, practically dragging his hooves through the ash toward the small group of Bachelors ahead of them. His blue eyes looked over them carefully. Most of them were tall and well built expect for one who seemed to be a little on the leaner side from what he could tell, and it didn't exactly look like a healthy, lean form either. As they got closer, Ryder could see ribs and hip bones poking through the skin, much like most of the Exiles had been before they had trekked to the Eastern island for safety and food. A shiver went down his spine at the very thought of it, and he snorted in distaste before turning his head slightly to address the bubbling questions that came from the rest of his team. "They are on our land. Cain is smart and sly; I don't believe he would send a group of just five Bachelors to unknown territory to harm us. They are on our turf, so we should have the upper hand here." Ryder said though worry still crept through him. What if these weren't the only Bachelors sent to the Southern island? What if this was only a small group of them, and the rest were corralling their herd for whatever evil purpose Cain might have for them? What if his family were in danger? 'Oh unicorns, I hope both of them are safe.' He thought to himself. The brown paint let out a short sigh, taking a deep breath to calm his nerves. "I don't trust them, but we can't just let them roam our land as they please without finding out why they are here." Glancing between Kaiser and Kayden, two stallions that he knew had been apart of the Bachelors at some point in their life. This was obviously not exactly a very merry meeting for them at all from the frustrated and worried expressions on their faces. "If they do attack, we'll run back to the herd to get reinforcements. Do not attack them first. I know all of you probably feel threatened by their sudden appearance. I'm not exactly thrilled about seeing them either, but we must not cause any unnecessary fighting." The High Guard took a small step in front of Fay as he finally came to a stop several horse lengths away from the group of strangers. Who knew what they would do with her if they were to capture her, and Ryder was not about to lose anyone on this mission.
Ryder cleared his throat, taking a step forward to speak. "Hi there, why might a group of Bachelors be on the Southern island? Did Cain send you here?" He called out, just loud enough for the other band of horses to hear, but not loud enough to draw unwanted attention from the predators that would probably be lurking in the growing darkness. They had nothing to give them, so what exactly could they want?

Ru was chilled. Yeah, yeah the temperature and humidity were enough to boil one's brain, but honestly, no one would've known his inner turmoil to look at him. He was calm, despite the concerns that swathed his otherwise logical thought processes. He settled into his role quite comfortably, assertive and yet completely reasonable. His pelt quivered, sending small wisps of dust into the atmosphere, and his mane and forelock were shuffled into disarray by his movement. Tossing his head, he glanced from each male present, and then back to scanning the horizon. There was no telling what was out there. They were in a strange land, at the behest of their leader, attempting to appear casual, and non-threatening was difficult considering the herd from which they came, Ru knew that all too well.
His group rallied, and pulled together just like he knew they would. Each individual a specifically chosen cog that would work a well oiled machine. He paced on, hooves glancing from the dusty surface of parched soil, ears flicking back and forth, picking up sounds carried by a fitful breeze. Narrowing his eyes against the dwindling sunlight, he pulled up. His head held high, and his ears pricked deftly forwards. In the distance, a mere stone's throw away were one inclined, stood a group of individuals who could only be at home in such a barren land. The winding path they had followed had brought them to the very individuals they were trying to repay. There would be many who would never concede a debt to Exiles, but Ru had a different point of view on that matter.
They'd been spotted. Well, it wasn't like they were trying to conceal themselves at the end of the day, but the fact that their presence had been noted could mean trouble on the horizon. The tension was tangible. The prickling of electricity, and zing of adrenaline coursing through veins blown wide with anticipation. This could be a fifty-fifty situation, in that it could go one of two ways. Ru was hopeful, however, that his group could keep it together enough to ensure a positive outcome.
"Ease up... Steady boys." He eyed the group with a certain degree of suspicion before he caught the gravel of Varien's bass tone at the periphery of his consciousness. He remained focussed and uttered softly:
"Stay in formation, stand your ground. Let's see how this goes-" It was a little gruff as he delivered his speech from the side of his mouth, uttered in nothing more than a stage whisper. He pawed at the ground, digging a trench with the toe of his hoof before shifting his weight restlessly.
As Ace brushed against him, his attention snapped briefly, and he frowned, slowly allowing his gaze to filter through those present before he took the necessary steps forwards to close the distance. The chestnut and cream brute from the Exile band seemed to be keen on determining whether they were friend or foe, which Ru could accept as normal behaviour, given the circumstances. He took his time answering, though, taking the time to read body language, and take stock of the situation as any sensible personality would-
"Evening... We mean you no harm-" Best to get that little nugget of information into the open as soon as possible, especially considering he was pacing towards them at that precise moment. Ru whinnied his announcement and greeting fairly softly so all could hear, but so minimal attention was drawn. He inclined his head ever so slightly and he came to a stop a good few feet from the Exile group. He quirked a brow, offering a gentle and charming lop-sided smile- "... Cain sent us to help reclaim your home. You helped us when we needed it most. He feels it is time that the debt is repaid."
He turned, then. Beckoning the other stallions closer with a twitch of his head, to formally introduce those who had come to the Exile's aid in THEIR time of need- "I'm Ruaridh, I bring with me Varien, Clyde, Lantern and Ace."
The distant caterwaul of a beast reached his ears, and they instantly flattened to his skull. "It seems you have a... 'Pest' problem."
"We are, very much, at your service... As it were."

The closer they got to the group of Bachelors the more and more uneasy Kayden felt. Anxiety fluttered in his gut like millions of butterflies all trying to escape. He felt ill and that just made him feel weak, 'snap out of it! You can frickin panic on your own time!' he chastised himself internally. The chimera took a deep breath, letting it out slowly, and forcing his limbs to not shake as they made their way over the ash and dirt towards the absolute last thing Kayden wanted to face right now.
"I do not like this." Kayden's ears perked up at the sound of Kaiser's growl. Well, it seemed at least the other ex-bachelor of their party shared some of his distrust --more like disdain-- for the other group of horses. Kayden just wished everyone else had the sense to feel the same. He glanced quickly down at the filly whom Kaiser had moved in front of protectively, though he himself made no move to do the same. He was worried, sure, but he wasn't at the point where he'd risk his own well-being to protect her --or any of them for that matter. Because, as it stood, the fact of the matter was, if it came down to a fight with these stallions, Kayden was more likely to bolt than anything.
When they were finally within speaking distance of the others Kayden made no move to step any closer than absolutely necessary, staying behind his own group a bit more than what could be considered a normal distance. He stayed out of the conversation that began to take place, though he held his head high in an attempt to feign confidence; unable to help the disbelieving snort and eyeroll that escaped him when the leader of the other group --Rory or something like that-- claimed they meant no harm. Yeah right, and Kayden's dam was a quiverback.

As the Exiles approached, Ruaridh had told them to stay steady. Varien shifted, keeping his ears perked and his expression neutral. He could not stay relaxed, though. The presence of what would typically be an enemy, on enemy territory as well, did not sit well in his stomach. As he looked upon the faces of the Exiles, he tried to recall their faces. He took quite a lot of time identifying and educating himself on the members of the southern herd, but they were very reluctant to share personal information, or even the time of day. He supposed that he could not blame them though.
As they continued to exchange niceties, Varien sighed. An ear flicked to the side at the feral sound of an animal, and he looked over to Ruaridh. "We should hurry this along," he suggested quietly, his eyes flicking to the Exiles. "I don't think that the predators are going to wait for us." He shuffled a bit to the side, flicking his tail. He gazed at each individual equine, stopping on one of the stallions in the back. Four diamonds scarred across his face. Varien's immediate reaction was to call him out, but a pang of empathy held his tongue. How could he bring attention to such a stallion? The dapple grey new the struggle of having to hide. And with those scars, there was no way that the Exile, formerly Bachelor, would be able to stay shrouded from anything. So he moved on.
Varien looked to the horizon, flaring his nostrils and swiveling his ears. Thank Horod for my exceptional eyesight... He thought to himself, and also reluctantly thanked Ba'Yagu for his ability scroll of observation. Drawn out of his thoughts, he stiffened as he saw a small shape moving along the horizon. He dared not call attention to it, just in case it was nothing.

Jack slowly moved with his companions towards the group of standing bachelors, his face blank as he thought of why they would be out here. He didn't trust bachelors, sure he was familiar with a female from their herd since the war, but the males still seemed aggressive in his mind. He took deep breaths as they got closer, the new scents drifting towards them on the wind. He felt uneasy about this, and the long shadows cast from the sun seemed to make this meeting even more ominous.
When They drew close enough to talk to the unfamiliar group, Jack stopped beside Ryder, staying in formation as the leader of their group spoke. He pushed both ears forward, though gained no sound from his left ear. It was not the biggest weakness to Jack, and had grown used to it since he had lost his hearing. It helped that it was no noticeable as well, and could only be exploited if he were to have told someone that he was partially deaf. He glanced to Ryder, and then the rest of the members of the group, eyes lingering momentarily on each face. He had seen some of them fighting during the war, but had not had to treat them after the bloody battles. He did not want to have to heal them today, either. With a frown, listening to the leader, Ruaridh, speak "Cain...wants to help us?" he questioned softly, furrowing his brows slightly. If Cain was offering help, that may mean he wanted some else too, something more than the mares they had been taking. He was about to ask his question a little louder, when the sound of the howl drifted through the air. He looked at Ryder "Ryder, we have to decide whether to accept or refuse their offer quickly. Those beasts aren't going to wait for us to have a pleasant conversation with the others." he said, his last sentence filled with a faint ton sarcasm.

Clyde moved together with the other stallions in his group, he did this with his head held high but his attention away from the conversation. He had heard the sounds of the animals around them and agreed with Varien this needed to be speed things up, “I agree with Varien” he said as his ears flicked back a little. He was beginning to feel very uneasy sitting out in the open where just about anyone or anything would be able to pick the groups off easily. Though with the two groups working together they could have a much better chance but their would be injuries, he moved his gaze to the Exiles. He seen in the back a stallion hiding behind the rest and the stallion that moved in front of the mare. Clyde could easily tell they were not so welcomed here or at least not by the group they were not.
Clyde took in a deep breath and before he exhaled the sounds of howls reached his ears, he lifted them right back to a point. These creatures were getting much closer to them and made him feel even more uncomfortable, the night was falling upon them soon as well so with that Clyde slightly lowered his head “Ruaridh I am sorry to sound so rude” he spoke as he moved his gaze back to the group of Exiles, “but we should really hurry this along I don’t think we have much time till these monsters around make us into their next large meal” he then added as his blue gaze moved to the dark areas around them.

Fay was surprised when Kaiser stepped protectively in front of her. She had to lurch to a stop to prevent walking into him. At first she felt offended. 'what? think the small ones can't handle themselves?' she thought then realized he was doing a smart thing and not trying to push her buttons. those stallions where known for stealing mares and the awful things they do to them as slaves. Fay shuttered and lowered her head almost to the ground to look under Kaisers belly and with wide mysterious eyes she took in the sight of each bachelor. They where strong and tough. they all wore 'x's across their muzzle and stood with pride but respect as they faced the exiles. Their rock hard appearance withered away as the howls drew over the group and every horse paused to swivel their ears to the noise. Even fay lifted her head high to see if she could spot anything in the lurking land. nothing emerged so the groups went on discussing their purpose. "Cain?.. helping us? sounds like they'll want something in return or there is a trick to this" she added softly to the mumbles of the exile, though no one in particullar answered. The blue eyed brown stallion tilted his head to look at her but fay only held her gaze, not tearing her eyes away to show any sign of fear. Even if they attempted to take her she wouldn't go while she was still breathing.

Ace raised his head and looked them over. Two of them bore the infamous marks of the Bachelor herd. He, however, did not recognize either of them. The chimera looked nervous despite his stance. Squinting Ace realized why. Four diamonds marked his shame forever. Poor soul, brutes found out his secret, he was lucky to be alive. And then peeking out from under the one with the pure x was a little mare. Her large eyes peered from under the barrel of her protector. Bright and filled with curiosity they reminded him of his little sister. A small smile escaped him at the thought of his only living relative in his herd, the only one keeping him there. The smile dropped however when a howl filled the air.
Ears swiveling he tried to locate the sound, but it was quiet once more. Suddenly conscious of the steadily slowing scarlet flow from his nostrils he tucked his head in and tried to stop the flow on his leg. It was of no use only smearing slightly on his leg. Dread filled him suddenly, he was becoming a prime target for the predators of this island. Sure he was big and strong, but he was not necessarily fast and this annoying nose bleed would give him away. He could single hoofedly give away their position.
His eyes shifted the a dead tree with some moss that had been left clinging onto the trunk. Breaking rank with an apologetic glance at his mission captain he walk over to it. Rubbing his face along it he managed to stanch the flow and fill his nostrils with the old dried moss.
"I think we should probably go kill something now," he whispered anxiously to his leader as he leg yielded into position beside the yellow stud.

Kaiser | Exile | Guard | Word Count: 216
The stallion pinned his ears as he noticed one of the smaller stallions in the band notice Fay after studying Kayden. Kaiser blinked, did he know the ex-bachelor? Glancing back at his herd-mate Kaiser eyes widened noticing the four diamonds, he frowned and gave Kayden a small nod to show his understanding before stepped forward. Coming up next to Ryder, careful to keep Fay out of sight, he stood tall next to his leader. "Do you think we need their help, that and do you believe they will even help." Kaiser kept his voice low, so only the group of Exiles would hear before looking down at the ground for a second. "Ryder..." He starts softly before looking over at the other stallion with sadness, "I was once one of them... And with that knowledge I highly suggest we do not trust them, speaking from experience they are not less the cruel to even their own kin..." He said, his words dripping with hollowness, he had seen what that herd could do and he didn't want his group to suffer the pain first hoof.
Kaiser's blood ran cold as the howl entered the silent night, he over back into his position in the formation and held his breath waiting and listening for movement of the beasts.

Ryder eyed the group of Bachelors carefully, feeling the uneasiness and suspension in the air around him. He definitely hadn't thought that they would be running into a group of these scarred horses ever again especially since they were no longer on the Eastern island. As a yellow stallion spoke up, it was obvious that he was the leader of this little band, and Ryder's ears perked up to hear his explanation for their trespassing. The large stallion stood there, giving Ryder and the rest of the group a rather friendly look. Cain had sent them to help out the Exiles? He knew better than to trust a lot of the Bachelor herd, but having fought alongside them in the war, he had also learned that many of them were decent horses. Their herd was just a bit... questionable at times.
The brown paint listened to his bristling companions, taking their worried words into account. None of them were pleased to see this group of Bachelors on their land, but who could blame them? The Bachelors had taken their leader into captivity and forced them to surrender other mares in exchange for land they desperately needed. While Ryder knew that Cain could be quite the snake, Ryder also knew that Cain liked to have a plethora of horses on his side. This whole 'kindness' offering might just be a way of sealing a bond between the herds for when Olde came back around to start up the war once more.
Sighing quietly, Ryder looked back at his group. "If we decide to ignore their offer, Cain might take offense and do something about it in the future. Plus, having more horses working with us might help us to get rid of these predators. I've been with the Bachelors before, and I know how many of them aren't to be trusted, but accepting their offer might be our best bet." As he finished, a loud howl pierced the dusk air, causing Ryder's head to snap in the direction of the sound. They didn't have time to be thinking about this. "Cain might be manipulative, but he knows when he wants an ally. I have a feeling he doesn't want to make any more enemies than he already has right now." Ryder turned back to large stallion in front of him, recognizing him from the sparring match that he had had during his time with the Bachelor herd. 'He doesn't have the scar.' He noticed before clearing his throat to speak. "We accept your offer to help."
Pointing to each horse, Ryder introduced them. "This is Jack, Kaiser, Fay, Kayden, and I'm Ryder. I don't think we have much time to really get to know each other before the predators start to come out, so I think we should get down to business." Ryder said, dipping his head with a friendly smile toward Ruaridh.

Jack turned his attention to Ryder when everyone had shared their thoughts, waiting for his response. He nodded at the stallions words, taking into account what Cain may do, if he felt disrespected. He agreed, in his mind, that Ryder was right, and they should be thankful for the small truce. They needed to get their home back, and to try and heal it back to it's once beautiful state. Rejecting help that was offered would not help them reach their goal. He turned to Ru once Ryder was done, watching their reactions as Ryder, nodding his head in greeting as he stated who they all were.
Jack squinted his eyes when he smelt the faint trace of copper. Blood?...he thought, eyes quickly scanning the group. He quirked a brow when he saw the red liquid dripping from the liver chestnut stallion "are you alright?" he directed his question towards the long eared horse, offering a faint smile. He was a medic, and even simple things like a nose bleed needed to be treated, especially with hungry predators around who had most likely all ready picked up on the scent. "I'm sure there are cobwebs or something of the sort around here that could stop the bleeding." he offered, watching the dripping blood for a moment before looking up to his eyes.

Clyde moved all this attention to the sounds around the group of horses, he could hear them moving far off and shivered at the thought of how many of them were really out there. With his eyes scanning around them looking for these hidden monsters he spots a fellow member of his herd breaking off from formation and he had only just met this stallion, Ace was his name. He moved his head to the side as the stallion back back to their leader’s side “Ace is everything okay?” He asked in a quiet tone so that the other group wouldn’t hear him. The the scent of blood Clyde knew the predators would easily be able to track them down in the matter of minutes or even seconds. The idea of this snapped him back to the conversation as they waited for the answer from the exiles, he was getting a little impatient with the waiting and wanted to speak out to have them hurry along with their choice. With his final thoughts of wanting to step up and tell them that this was taking to long, that Cain just wanted to help for what they had done for them in the war and then the choice was made.
He took in a deep breath before he did end up speaking out of turn, he nodded his head and thankful they finally agreed to let them help. He then looked to the stallion named Jack who was now offering to help with Ace he was a little shocked, he moved his gaze from Jack and then over to Ace.
