Yonne was distracted with the earth beneath her when the first calls came, missing them completely. It was only when Natalie moved into action that she lifted her head to look at what making the sounds. Lunar ravens... She narrowed her eyes and moved in closer to Dante. She wasn't a fighter, but her hind legs were strong and she wouldn't allow these devious birds to take off with any of them. "Of course..." She grumbled. Turning so her back was to the birds, she looked over her shoulder, reading to kick the beasts when they came near. The first few birds that swarm around them was startling, she kicked her legs, missed, but made the particular bird flapping about her to retreat. The couldn't catch a break now, could they? More birds came, and after a few bucks, she felt the body of a bird against her hooves and the telltale snap of bones. The Raven went tumbling to the ground. Alive, dead, Yonne didn't care, she had to protect the herd at all costs. "Ugh! Why must we be bombarded by these pests!" Another kick was given to the attackers.

Judah flicked his ears back in irritation at D'Angelo's comment before releasing a sigh. He knew the palomino stallion was right. If they didn't leave now, they never would. He was sure Natalie would take care of the cuts on Venus and turned to give the others one last look before trotting off to follow D'Angelo and Amblyn.
As the trio traveled the charred forest slowly come closer into view. It was a horrible thing to see what his home had been reduced to. Judah remembered the fields of green grass and tall shady trees covering the southern island. Once they had reached the edge of forest edge he watched the haflinger mare reach up and yank at twig. "We need twigs like this, I think. A bit bigger, maybe, but similar." Following her example he reached over to the closest tree to pull at a twig. Unfortunately he was only rewarded with a mouth full of ash as the brittle object crumbled in his mouth.
Judah pulled away with disgust as he tried to spit out the ash coating his tongue. Ugh! He hoped all the trees weren't this bad. Moving towards a a larger tree he reached up and pulled on it. This time he was rewarded with a firmer twig, and after a second tug the twig snapped off. Motivated by the sturdy twig, Judah moved his large body around the tree he was currently at to strip more twigs off.
When the twigs on the current level were stripped, Judah reared up to reach those higher. His pile of acceptable sticks were slowly starting to pile up. "Can anyone see that?" Judah paused in his work as he looked around in confusion. "Look, there's something in the sky." Tilting his head towards the direction the mare was looking at. Where those birds? His eyes widen slowly as he recognize the true nature of the flock. "I don't think those normal birds."

D'Angelo | Bachelor Stallion | Infantry __________________________________________________________________ The charred forest was a rather sad looking place. But although he was a Bachelor, he did have memories of the beautiful Southern Isle when it was still green and lush, back when the forests were thick and full of life. Now all that was left of that was a barren ash land. The trees stuck out of the ground like skeletal hands. It was far from the beautiful sight it once was. But by the discovery of little plant sprouts beneath the thick layer of ash, it was clear that the island was trying to make a come back. It was healing.
D'Angelo had been rather occupied with his own thoughts as he walked from tree to tree collecting branches. He was a bit too rough at pulling twigs down, and the end result was a lot of broken twigs that wouldn't be of much use at all. With a snort of annoyance he had decided to move onto something a bit thicker. As he searched, unfortunately he had no luck in finding any flat sided wood. There were some on the ground but most were horribly charred and crumbled to ash when touched. It was a rather frustrating task.
Similar to the younger stallion, the palomino turned his head toward the halflinger mare at her question. Can anyone see that? In the name of the unicorns, what was she talking about now? Look, there's something in the sky. D'Angelo completely stopped what he was doing. He took several steps forward and squinted his eyes, trying to get a better look at the flock that was heading in a familiar direction. A flash of sunlight through the dim clouds reflected off of one of the birds silver feathers and shone in his eyes, which almost instantly widened in alarm. He knew of those birds.
I don't think those are normal birds.
They weren't.
"No. Those are lunar ravens!" Quickly D'Angelo picked up the sticks he had collected, chosing the ones he believed would be of use. This was a horrible time to have separated and that flock looked rather large. Those birds were far more clever than they were given credit for. "Come on, let's go!" He didn't doubt that Natalie would keep her promise to him. That at least that young colt would be safe. But Camila and Rose were there as well. A pang of guilt tugged at his gut. Was he just overeacting? These were just birds, he didn't need to panic. But he swore he would bring them all home safetly! The infantry stallion broken off into a gallop but he made sure he didn't stray too far from Amblyn or Judah. As irritating as that halflinger mare was, he didn't want anyone hurt.

Finally, D'Angelo and his group were leaving and Camila finally began to calm down, her tension slowly easing from her mind and body. A small bit of it remained however as she thought now how to bring up conversation with the other exile mares. She wanted to make friends with them and so she continuously glanced up from her work to look at each of them, debating which to talk with first. Or perhaps she could talk with all of them at once? A group conversation! That would be nice. But now came the harder part- how to start the conversation. She tried several times, opening her mouth and then closing it once more, always shaking her head. Camila had never been one for idle conversation so starting one was a lot harder than she imagined. Finally though she mustered up the courage and confidence to say something. Just as she was about to open her mouth to ask a question about their lives, Dante spoke up about a sound in the distance.
Camila lifted her head and looked in the direction that the colt had, listening intently. Indeed there was a sound, birdlike in manner, and a dark cloud moving toward them. It wasn't a cloud though and Camila instantly knew what it was. Just as the words formed in her mind, Natalie spoke her thoughts.
"Lunar Ravens."
This day just kept getting more stressful as it went on. Camila snorted in aggravation, and moved her body closer to the smaller horses of the group, Dante and Rose, as the birds swooped in quickly. It was a massive flock, great in number, swarming them instantly. Thankfully, Camila had learned a bit from her father on how to fight them. She reared, bucked, and bit at them, hearing the cracking and breaking of bones between her teeth and beneath her hooves. The ravens were smart though and came for her eyes. However, she was smart as well, shaking her head furiously and headbutting them away with viscous force. Though they wound her as well, leaving puncture wounds from their beaks, around her face especially.

Dante | Bachelor Colt | Youngling -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dante watched with terror as the silver flock came rushing down towards them, but before they hit, Natalie jumped into view. Never the less of the shield, Dante crouched and screwed his eyes shut. He heard the rustle of flapping wings and the loud screeches the animals where making all around him. Some seem to say something, but he couldn't make out what. One 'word' was repeated over and over in low caws.
Dante felt a body being pressed up to him, and he dared to open his eyes. He and Rose seemed to be surrounded by the other group members, who where furiously fighting off the small attackers. Blurs of white passed around them, it was pure chaos.
Suddenly the colt felt harsh pinching on his ear, and a weight pulling on it. "Ow!" He yelled out as he started to shake his head in reflex. A raven had taken hold of his right ear, using his claws to try and get a hold, scratching the colt's face in the process. Out of panic Dante started to buck about. He didn't know if he was hitting anyone, or where he was going, but he needed to get this bird off!
The panicked colt squinted his eyes in pain and tried to look around for something to help him. And then he got it!
With one swift movement he let himself fall face first to the ground and rolled over due to the momentum. With a painful tear the tip of his ear was gone, and the bird lay belly up on the ground. As the colt quickly scrambled to his feet, the lunar raven did the same, and quickly flew off, a little lamely.
Dante shook his head to the pain. As he did so he felt wet drops hitting his neck and face, but that wasn't important right now. He saw more ravens shoot about, closer his way, so the colt stumbled back inside the circle of protection. He fearfully swiveled his head around, watching the mayhem as the others fought the pests.

Natalie | Exile Mare | Guard:
Even as the flock came down upon them all and the mayhem of everyone fighting not only to protect themselves but the youths Natalie stayed calm allowing her guard training to take over and fuel her actions as she fought off the birds with hooves and teeth. Keeping them off her face she used it to knock them away from her only to grab them with teeth to kill it or wound it. There was so many of these curse it birds that there wasn't any way that they would come out of this without any wounds. For she herself already had a few on her including the lose of the tiny white flower she had in her mane had been ripped apart by the birds. Suddenly hearing the pained yell from Dante Natalie made the mistake of looking away from the bird for a sharp beak sliced into her face. With a yelp of pain she snapped back crushing the silver raven between her teeth. She had only caught a glance of the blood that was the wound on him. She cursed the birds and herself for her promise had crumpled but that didn't mean to would let anything else happen. Willing her gift to flow she planted her hooves on the ground lifting small rocks up out of the ash and throw them with force into several of the birds knocking them out of the air. She had hit them in places that would keep them from taking off for now but it would help kill the numbers and right now that was what was needed. They had to bring down the numbers much as they could because maybe then the birds would leave. Her hours of practice with her gift to make it useful even in times of fighting had paid off for the time being. With the adrenaline flowing through her body she was able to ignore the pain from the wounds she was getting. It was the price she was paying for not moving quite as much now to use her gift but that didn't stop her from nabbing bird from the air with teeth. She would protect them, The youths behind her and those around her. It was her job and the task entrusted to her by their leader she wouldn't let her down. As birds had started to treat she took this time to actually take her eyes off of them to look over the horses around her to see just how badly everyone had been hurt.

Venus was happy that her venture outward was not all for naught. She noted her friends looking to her cuts, which were not nearly as bad as they seemed, just barely skin deep, and she would wash them before tonight's rest. The stallions were gone now, and Ambyln was with them. Venus trusted Ambyln would keep them in line, but how brave she was to willingly take a bachelor deeper into their home. Camila, one of the Bachelor mares, complimented her idea with a smile, but the oh so wary Venus returned her friendliness with a sheepish grin. She let the others talk while she took inventory, there was a filly and colt among the bachelors. They're not that scary, right? And the mare was strong enough to take her on, but even the children could, too. Venus shook these worries out of her mind and looked to the young. The smallest of them, the colt, was very hardworking in his digging. Venus's spirits lifted to see that someone from such a horrible place could be so willing to give what he could to return the wealth to her home. She began to approach him and try to come out of her own shell, but the colt-Dante's attention was turned towards the sky. "What is that?" he said, eyes on the sky. Venus turned her own eyes upward to see scattered specks closing in. The Lunar Ravens quickly presented themselves. The horses closed around her and the children with equal speed as the bird attacked. Venus hopped up in hopes to scatter them, but it never lasted for long. She wasn't a defender, she was a nurse at best! Venus admired Yonne and her tact, and the others, too! They could take on any stallion, but herself? Oh no, she'd proven she couldn't long ago. The small mare's attention was grabbed as the colt took a tumble with a raven. The colt's ear was torn, and that worried her, but he seemed to not be bothered. While Venus was distracted, the others managed to scatter the horde, thankfully. "Dante, are you alright?" Venus asked the colt once things settled down completely. She inspected his ear carefully and concluded that he would be fine, but he'd need to keep it clean from infection. He'd Be joining her at the water, should he need instruction. These thought shook a new trait into the mare's mind. She was being motherly? Venus never had a desire to be around children, but sure enough here she was, nursing one. She shook herself out and looked away in embarrassment. On the horizon the stick hunters returned, with not too many sticks and worried looks on their faces. The bachelor was leading them, and Venus tried to remain sane. She lifted her head and stiffened her body, trying to appear brave to him. inside her mind she screamed very loudly, but her lips remained pursed in a frown. Everything is going to be fine. Oh no he's coming closer. . . 505 Nextito: Ambutt

Amblyn | Exile Mare | Guard
There was something wrong. Amblyn could feel it in her bones. The shapes had gotten closer and she could just make them out from where they were standing. They moved quickly and had when some of the spots dove down towards the group they'd left behind, her eyes widened. They were attacking!
"They are dangerous!" she called. "We need to get back now!"
Dipping her head to grab some of the twigs she'd found, she wasted no time setting off in a quick gallop. Mane and tail whipping in the wind, she used her strong legs to carry her towards the danger. They'd left the younglings behind!
She followed D'Angelo's quick pace, watching closely and staying near enough that neither could be caught off guard. If the flock of birds turned on them, they'd need to stick together.
As in front of them, the others fought off the pesky birds, Amblyn scrambled to get to them faster. With a mighty lunge, she propelled herself forward, throwing the sticks she'd been carrying at one of the birds and catching it in the head. It swerved mid-air from the impact and just ducked under a kick from Amblyn's hind legs.
"Gather around Dante!" she shouted, remembering her training. "Present one front!"
The haflinger mare made sure to stay flank to flank with D'Angelo now. Their bulk would have to keep the others safe. With her rear towards the foal and the other weaker members of their group, she reared every time a bird dare come closer.
"Guess we can work as a team after all," she said, glancing at the strange mix of horses around her. With a grin she kicked a bird out of mid-air, making sure it couldn't follow through with its descent towards D'Angelo's head.

Yonne focused on the birds behind her that she missed the one that had attacked Dante. With her ears pinned back, she turned and snapped at the creature as it flew away. Giving Dante a pleased smile, she turned to face the birds and reared up on her hind legs. Standing tall, she beat at the air with her large hooves, diverting a few ravens who decided that retreating was far better than getting their wings snapped by a large mare. More kicking, bucking and rearing was needed by the group until finally the swarm of deadly birds truly began to retreat as a whole. Glancing over the group quickly to make sure they were alright, she bolted after the birds who lagged behind. That at least seemed to get them to move, as screeching and flying feathers signaled their haste. Bobbing her head, she called out to them. "And that's what you get when you mess with the wrong horses!" One last satisfied rear was given, before she turned and rejoined the group with her head held high. Countless scratches littered her face and hindquarters, but she didn't seem to care about them at all right now. She looked to the group, particularly Dante, and then looked around. A large feather was located on the ground and picked up, before she walked over to the colt. Holding the feather to him, she spoke through her teeth. "I think you earned yourself a trophy. You're going to be a great stallion one day." She gave him a smile, then looked over the group again. Now her wounds were starting to sting, and she resented her pretty face being marred by some birds.

Dante | Bachelor Colt | Youngling ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The chaos nearly seemed endless. White flashes shot down to nip at the colts mane. The caws and screeches seemed to get more and more desperate. But then Dante heard the bellowing voice of the bronze halflinger mare. The stick searchers had returned! And this changed everything. The fight was over quickly after their arrival, sending the ravens back into the far sky. The colt could hear their continued protest fade in the distance.
Dante took and deep breath, filling his lungs to the fullest, before letting out a deep and satisfying sigh. The distress and adrenaline washing away. He perked up at the question of the bay exile mare. "Euh, yeah, I guess." He answered a little wary. It wasn't until then that his ear started to throb and sting. He cringed at the feeling and shook his head again. He stilled when the young mare bowed over him to inspect the wound, and he tried to give her a confident smile, saying; "Really, I'm fine." He didn't wish to worry her.
Suddenly she gave him a weird, kind of shocked look, and quickly broke their gaze. Dante furrowed his brow in confusion. Then to his right the sooty pintaloosa mare, (Yonne?) came walking over. She presented him a large silver feather. The colt looked up to meet her blue eyes in awe as she stated this was to be his trophy.
With hesitant, but growing pride, he took the feather from her, and returned her kind smile with a big grin, feather clasped tightly between his teeth. "Thank you!" He said cheery and totted off with a buck of glee. Feeling the wind pull at the silver quill in his mouth, the colt started to fantasize what kind of stallion he once would be. 'Wow! Mom and dad are gonna be so proud when they hear this story!' He thought excitedly, as he pranced away with his head held high.

Amblyn | Exile Mare | Guard After a swift, decisive fight with the birds, Amblyn stood panting not far from the others. They'd rounded up and fought as a team. It made her proud, even if she wouldn't show it. She supposed she could deal with these strangers, if it came to it. They seemed admirable enough. Even that stallion, really. She snorted at herself, then took to fixing her mane. Those darned pests had tugged and pulled relentlessly, but nothing serious had happened and she'd just suffered a few scratches. She was just tired and out of breath.
"We did it," she murmured as she ambled towards the rest. She glanced at Dante, but saw he was taken care of and so just nodded at the young one. "Well done, everyone. Good fight."
She gave them a wry smile. "Now let's hope this is the last struggle we'll have to deal with."
As she stood facing the sun, gleaming overhead, she comfortably stood flank to flank with bachelor and exile alike. For now, at least. As she watched Dante dance away, she hummed to herself and closed her eyes. For now things had settled and she was fine. As the warmth of the sun cascaded down on her, she dozed happily.
