"So either sticks or a large branch? Okay! That should be too hard to find." he stated with a nod as he made a mental checklist. At Camila's suggestion he turned his attention towards D'Angelo. He hoped the stallion would join him for the sanity sake of the mares and for the task at hand. He was sure that if the D'Angelo decided to stay nothing would get done, and the arguments would just start up all over again. Jude opened his mouth to ask the other stallion's opinion but held his tongue when Amblyn piped up to volunteer herself. With Amblyn joining to look for stickers there was sure to be more bickering in the smaller group, but atleast he could keep them somewhat separated as they traveled into the southern island. Would any of the others volunteer to join? There was also the fact that the exiles were missing two members of their previous group. "Venus and Yonne were still gone," he pointed out, looking towards the direction they have left in. "Should we wait them to return?"

D'Angelo | Bachelor Stallion | Infantry __________________________________________________________________ D'Angelo could go with Judah to get the sticks. Her suggestion made the palomino's skin itch with irritation. That mare was pushing her limits and was doing more than simply stepping on his toes. He wasn't particularly known for his patience. But due to usually being in a good mood most of the time he really had no need to forcefully hold back his temper, but he could feel that protective barrier slowly slipping away the more annoyed he was becoming. The reality of what a Bachelor was to these other horses was beginning to hit him all over again. Suspicion snaked its way into the back of his mind.
The rest of us can stay here and continue to do what Natalie and her group have already started.
A small smirk etched its way onto his face. That's exactly what you want, isn't it my dear Camila? What a treasure she really was. Boy was she pushing it. Did she really think he was that dull? That he wouldn't notice?
His glass blue eyes caught her glance, and in response he narrowed them slowly, returning her gaze with the icy daggers of his. Watch it. He flattened his ears lightly.
All in all though he didn't disagree. He knew Camila and Rose despised him, it wasn't exactly hard to notice. But he had sworn to bring them all home safely, and despite whether or not the two mares wanted to return was no longer his problem. He'd take any punishment there was for letting them go. D'Angelo looked away, his gaze having rested on the young colt for a few moments as he remained deep in thought. I have to make sure he's safe, for his parents sake.
"Natalie." D'Angelo's voice rang deeper, more mature than usual. It was commanding this time. "I will leave with Judah and whoever else feels comfortable in accompanying the two of us, if that is what makes you mares more comfortable." He narrowed his eyes slightly at the beautiful roan mare. "All I ask is for you to please keep an eye on Dante for me." His gaze grew surprisingly soft as he looked once more in Dante's direction. It was nearly the look a father would give to his son. Those mares had made it clear that they could look after themselves, and he was tired of arguing with them. But this colt would make it through this mission unscathed. He was determined to keep it that way.

Camila was only slightly surprised by the icy glare that D'Angelo gave her. He agreed, but she knew that he wouldn't stand by for long the way she was going. But she didn't care. He agreed to go with Judah- and Amblyn apparently -so she wouldn't have to worry about him, at least not for a little while. Though, curiously, he seemed very fond of the colt. Perhaps it was his own colt? They did have coats that were much the same, but that was about it for similarities between them. She didn't know, but she was glad to see the little colt become so diligent and lively now that there was work to be done. Either way, she felt triumphant, like she was finally moving forward in life instead of standing idly by. She didn't care if she got in trouble or was distrusted by one of the Exiles. This was her chance and she wouldn't waste it.
Even though she felt empowered by giving orders, she decided to withhold herself as Judah piped in again, asking about Yonne and the horse she went to gather, Venus. That must have been the filly that ran when they first arrived, the poor thing. Camila hoped that she was safe. She briefly felt ashamed for scaring her, knowing that it was her status as a Bachelor that did it. She felt dirty thinking about it; others feared her because of what the Bachelors forced her to become. Once D'Angelo was gone, maybe she could speak with the Exiles about it. For the time being, Camila began to mimic what Natalie had shown her, gently pushing away the dust with her hoof to reveal the buds of grass beneath.

Dante | Bachelor Colt | Youngling ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dante briefly looked up from his work to watch how Rose was doing. She seemed to use more the tip of her hoof instead of...all of it. Dante looked down at his own digging and grimaced at a rather helplessly squashes sprite of grass. 'Be more gentle!' He scolded himself, and started again with more, but a little less, determination.
He listened to the adults talking away, but it was more a murmur in the background. The tension in the air was very clear to the colt, but he preferred to act natural. As if he was just a dump little youngling, just doing an assignment. But he was interrupted.
In the corner of his eye he saw the Exile halflinger mare watch him, and then approach. Amber? Ambeline? What was her name again?! Dante kept on digging, pretending like he hadn't seen her. As much as he enjoyed company and making friends, strangers where still scary. Especially those outside the herd. And Ambery -or whatever- seemed rather tough.
His bead bobbed up at the mare's question. She suddenly sounded so kind? Dante stared at her for a second or two, taking in her profile, before he opened his mouth to answer. "I'm Da-" The dun colt cut himself off and swiveled his head around and the fall of his name. He carefully watched his current leader, and what seemed the Exile's current lead mare, and tried to catch on any more words that were said. Suddenly all too interested in what the grownups where talking about.
His wide eyes locked with D'Angelo's blue ones. The calm, near sweet look the stallion gave him stilled the colt. It reminded him eerily of his father, who was somewhere, out there, fighting...
Dante locked his yaw, and slowly turned his head to ground, once again pretending to not have heard anything. "I'm Dante" He finally answered the bronze Exile mare in front of him. His voice more quiet then he'd meant.

Natalie | Exile mare | Guard:
Turning her head to Judah when he spoke of the other two still being gone. Natalie took a moment to look out towards where they had gone. Could slightly see them in the distance but it was hard to make them out for sure. "I believe they will be back very shortly. " She told him. Of course when D'Angelo spoke her eyes turned back to him now. When he asked her to keep an eye on Dante her eyes went to the colt who she caught actually looking their way. Smiling she looked back at D'Angelo lifting her head. "Of course he is safe here with us. I will personally keep a watch over him." She told him in order to defuse any doubt that he may have to leaving the colt with them. Natalie would never allow a colt or filly to ever get hurt after all. Though Dante kind of remained her of her little brother when he was just colt. Now he was off somewhere doing she had no clue. Now that everything seemed to be settled for the most part. Natalie moved back into the ash close to were Dante was and began moving aside some of the ash. Once she had cleared enough away from the sprouts and the room for her own hooves. Placing her hooves carefully she closed her eyes as she took a breath. Allowing her gift to flow through her she took this moment to search the ground around them. She was looking just feeling away the earth needed the most help even in there was a lot of ash to still move around.

Venus took several shaky breaths before stepping closer to her friends. She shared a wary glance with Yonne, she's been so kind to her, so Venus tried to be brave. Judah lead the bachelor stallion away and that put a slight ease to Venus, but not nearly enough to be visible. Venus daintily stepped closer to them, hooves too light to make an imprint. Venus was happy to see the others working so diligently, but she approached Natalie, calling her closer and away from the others. "Natalie. . . I'm so sorry for running off," She started with a wary look around the other mare, "I see you've made some headway, but I think we should bring water inland. When i was. . . away, i noticed that the the coastal areas were better off, so you could work the land with your gift and make it better to grow and we can get water in. . " Venus suggested quietly. "If thats okay. . ." she then added, remembering to stay in her place and not overstep her boundries

Amblyn | Exile Mare | Guard
Shrieking assaulted Amblyn's sensitive ears when the two runaway mares returned to the group. D'Angelo, Judah and her had been about to depart and thus separated slightly from the others, but this was a ridiculous overreaction. Was this tiny mare going to tuck tail every time she saw a bachelor? If so, she might as well not return. Even if such a thought made Amblyn tense up.
"Hush!" she called. "All of us are well. You need not worry about this one for now." She glanced at the bachelor stallion. "It seems he's promised to behave. And while he does, I'll be watching him like a hawk. Fear not, I'll block any ill intent."
She turned to Judah, listening intently to his suggestions. They could use sticks, indeed, and not muddy themselves. They wouldn't be too far off. While the trees remained charred, they'd also dropped their futile attempts at growing branches. There'd be some on the ground, she was sure.
"We should gather several, in case some snap or we encounter others who would help us," she murmured in reply to his ideas.
D'Angelo seemed distracted. One attention flickered between the black mare and the young colt. She could understand both. The mare was pushing at his boundaries - boundaries she'd thought would have been defended more fiercely, but maybe he was putting on a nice face for their sake - and was a pretty enough thing that he probably fancied her. Bachelor stallions were used to taking what they wanted and she didn't doubt he'd be distracted by such thoughts. Then there was the colt, whose youth made everyone soften and hyper vigilant at the same time. Even Amblyn and her exiles wanted to see him safe, even though they'd never met.
"Your son will come to no harm, I'm sure," Amblyn spoke, though she doubted he'd find her words comforting. "It's not his safety I fear for."
"I'm Dante."
Amblyn smiled. "Well met, Dante. I am Amblyn. You are far from home, young one."
It surprised her when the young mare who'd run away - Venis? Venus? something of the kind - spoke up next, alerting them to her presence and suggesting they find water. Water, indeed, would help their exploits.
"Grass always grows greener near water. Maybe we should consider her suggestion. Whilst we gather our twigs, maybe the rest could come up with a way to bring the water here? There is a river up north. We could group up again there when we're done."

Yonne was quiet when they finally returned to their group, though she was still kind of trying to calm down from the fright a few moments earlier. Venus dredged up feelings she didn’t know she really had. Fear, sure, but the pure terror of truly losing those she cared about was...she couldn’t go through that again. Losing her parents was one thing, but parts of her herd, her family? Her hooves yearned to run again, but she stayed put, telling herself that she needed to clear her head, else she would never get anything done and she did not want to disappoint Natalie. Sighing inwardly, she finally caught the tail end of Venus' comment. A distraction! She thought back, and realized through their journey that she was right. Water was needed to bring the earth back to life as much as Natalie's magic was. But how would they do it? And then after Amblyn spoke, an idea struck. "I think sticks might be too weak to bring dig into the dirt to bring in the water. But maybe we can create a stream from the river Amblyn mentioned. My hooves are big enough, but I am going to need help if I am to dig so much. And it’s going to be a long way too." She groaned to herself. Having muddy hooves was NOT something she was looking forwards to. At all. But at least a bath and a nap would be well earned.

With D'Angelo and Ambylyn joining in the stick search, things would go alot faster for the sake of the hidden plants. "The Charred Forest isn't too far from here," He stated to the other stallion, tossing his head in the forest's direction, "maybe we can find something useful around the edge of it." He was confident they would find a tool to work with. The return of Venus and Yonne pulled him from his thoughts. He was glad the mares had returned but as he watched Venus approach Natalie his expression changed to one of worry. "Venus! Are you alright?" he asked seeing the bleeding cuts on her legs.

D'Angelo | Bachelor Stallion | Infantry __________________________________________________________________ The palomino didn't bother to wait another moment before he walked off towards the distant scent of the river. It wasn't too far off but it was still a fairly good distance to travel. The Charred Forest. He snorted sarcastically at the younger stallion's mention of it. Would they really be finding suitable sticks or branches in a forest that had been consumed by fire years past? Then again he didn't have a clue, perhaps they would. "Let's hope." Was his short response to Judah.
But as the other two Exile mare's returned he stopped and looked over his shoulder, looking quite impatient.
"Venus! Are you alright?"
Were they ever going to leave? The more they stalled the longer this would take. These horses seemed to take forever to get anything done, that alone almost made him miss being home, back to the beautiful green landscape of the East Island. Orders were executed immediately and without question. Of course there were good things and bad things about that, but it did keep things sweet and simple, and that's how D'Angelo preferred it to be. Things didn't need to be so complicated, and he despised anything if it was. But there was only one thing that snatched the palomino's attention and it nearly caused the breath in his throat to catch. He turned his head toward the halflinger mare. "He's not my son." He said in a low tone of voice. "But he has parents that would like to see him home safely, and I will be sure that he does." His glass blue eyes were narrowed. Her words were far from comfort for him indeed, even more so that they came from her. With a snort he turned away, one ear flicking toward the young Exile stallion who's voice sounded worrisome at the return of the two mares.
"Why don't we try to change the course of the river?" D'Angeo suggested, listening intently, for once, at what Amblyn had stated. "You said there was a river north of here. Does anyone have a gift that could help move the earth perhaps? It'd be easier that way." He looked from each of them before he walked off a few feet away.
"Now come on, let's head out. I know you're worried about your little friend." He called over to Judah. "The sooner we leave the quicker you can return. Have your reunion then." With a flick of his tail he set out at a steady jog, not burdening himself with waiting for Judah or Amblyn for another second. This land may have been unfamiliar to him, but he had confidence that he was the biggest and the most strongest thing out here. North was where he headed.

Camila looked up in time to see the two mares that had run off, Yonne and Venus, return to them. Venus, the smaller of the two, looked as though she would bolt again and she felt pity and shame as she stared at the mare who was not that much younger than herself. When she spoke to Natalie, it was a miracle that she could hear it; bringing water inland to help irrigate and clear the land sounded like a good idea, but then again, Camila was no herbologist so she had no idea. "Good place to start, I think." Camila interjected, hoping to raise Venus' spirits with friendliness. She gave her a smile and she hoped that she wouldn't take it the wrong way. Camila wasn't very good at being friendly..but hey, at least she was trying!
The other horses began to speak about using the sticks to form trenches and Camila listened intently. It sounded like a good plan, but it would definitely take a good amount of time. It seemed that chatter just continued and the only one really wanting to get to work was D'Angelo. Camila had to agree with him though; the more they stood around and wasted time, the less real work would get done. As he spoke, she was actually a little surprised that D'Angelo wasn't the little colts father, though really there was only similarities between their coats and not much else. Camila thought it was strange that he seemed so fatherly to him, though. She wondered about that idly as the their group began to turn and walk away.

Dante | Bachelor Colt | Youngling ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dante's thick brows furrowed in confusion. Why was D'Angelo being so protective? He didn't even know him. Had maybe one of his parents asked the stallion to look after him? 'Would be something for dad to do.' The colt thought with a faint smile.
"Your son will come to no harm, I'm sure, It's not his safety I fear for."
The gold dun colt shot his head up after the halflinger's words, and looked at whom she was talking too. D'Angelo? Dante opened his mouth to correct the mare, but the paint stallion was quicker to do so. The mention of Dante's parents really made the colt believe D'Angelo had made a pact with one of them. Not that it bothered him. He knew his parents cared for him, and would want him safe. This was his first big task after all! And on strange lands! Not even hid mother had ever left the East Island.
The colt was slowly digging away ash to the small pile he had created so far, but he kept his focus on the conversations being held. He lost his concentration when the roan exile mare moved closer to him. She did something fascinatingly strange. Somehow Dante wondered if she had a gift, and was using it? Or she was just being weird right now...
He quickly broke his stare and continued to look at the ground he was working on. Though, disrupted again when the two run-away mares from before returned, Dante looked up once more. They were hardly greeted, and one of the two mares quickly moved over to Natalie. She started talking about water, a plan she had, but spoke as if it was a taboo. Others who overheard the conversation all started to pipe in their own thoughts. Dante watched without really registering what was going on.
Then D'Angelo, the halflinger mare, and the sabino exile started to part from the group, supposedly looking for 'sticks' as far as Dante had caught on. This made the group a little more calm, and Dante resumed his work. He glimpsed at his side, where he could see both Rose and Camilla. At least he still had them, as herd members, to stay with.
With both of his front legs Dante shoved more ash to the pile he had made, sneezing loudly from the kicked up dust reaching his nose. He snorted and shook his head in response. He was about to move back around to clear more when wind started to blow softly. It blew up more dusty ash, and Dante coughed this time, squinting his eyes. The soft blow died as quickly as it came, so the gold colt tried to start his work again. But then he heard something.
One of his ears swiveled back towards the forest. A soft call could be heard in the distance, far away. It sounded quiet like those black field birds back home, but lower, more raspy. The colt´s other ear turned back now too, to hear more clearly.
The calls came more frequent, and it sounded like more than one animal was making it.
He turned towards the sounds completely now, as faint as they were, but clear enough to hear still. "What is that?" He ask with furrowed brows.

Natalie | Exile mare | Guard:Seeing the return of her herd mates Venus and Yonne Natalie was glad they were alright got at least for the most part she had seen the wounds on Venus's legs. She would need to tend to those wounds or at least wash them however these thoughts were pushed aside at the new idea that was suggested. "Yes, that could work and it would really help the plants to have better access to water. " She said in agreement only Yonne was right sticks wouldn't be of any help for task since they wouldn't be strong enough to dig into the earth. "Yes, your right the sticks wouldn't be of any help at all for this. Our hooves will be the only tool strong enough for this. If more the one of works on it then it will get done faster." She said to her. Natalie's own hooves weren't very big but she might be able to help with the task though it might but best suited for someone else. Once more however Natalie was forced out of her thoughts of thinking when the wind seemed to pick up stirring the ash causing her to sneeze and shake her head to rid herself of the ash in her nose. Glancing over at Dante when he spoke Natalie froze as her ears twitched turned at the sound of the calling birds. Her marbled eyes looked to the sky as they widened at the site of the Lunar Ravens. "Lunar Ravens......." The words came out of her mouth but her body was already moving. She moved close to Dante her body between the flock coming their way and his. "Stay close and Protect the young! We won't let these birds take from us!" Natalie called the warning even as she gave command to the groups. These birds were dangerous but they couldn't just run and let them destroy all that they had done or let them harm any of the youths who would be the future. Ears pinning her ears back against her skull she readied herself for a fight.

Amblyn | Exile Mare | Guard The land around them changed as the three horses moved. It started out flat, covered in soot, and slowly worked upwards. Tree stumps arose, then actual trees, and soon they'd neared the forest edge. The haflinger mare eyed everything critically. Long dead trees would have brittle branches, so they needed something that had survived a bit longer. She grabbed a twig that looked like it'd tried growing, then pulled. Her teeth dug in and with a loud snap, it let go.
"We need twigs like this, I think," she spoke as she dropped it on the ground. "A bit bigger, maybe, but similar."
They'd left the others behind and it made the mare uneasy. She couldn't keep an eye on all of them if they split, but she realized it was necessary. Snorting as she pulled on another tree and dislodged some ash right into her nostrils, she kept working nonetheless. They'd get to water soon. With a bit of luck she could clean herself and rid her coat of the blackness. It was truly disgusting.
"We should hurry. Digging all the way back to the patch of ground we discovered earlier is going to take a while. They could use our strength."
She imagined the others working and sighed. The dark mare would do well, as would Natalie with her gift, but the little colt Dante would probably be slow going. Digging through soggy earth wasn't the easiest task for young legs. Amblyn glanced back at where they'd come from. She squinted when tiny specks of black appeared in the sky. Had those always been there? She couldn't remember birds being above them when they'd left.
"Can anyone see that?" she asked, nodding her head. "Look, there's something in the sky."

(OOC: I think people are forgetting why we're collecting sticks? It was to move the ash away so the sprouts can catch the light. It doesn't have anything to do with digging.)
