| Rose | filly | Bachelor Youngling |
_________________________________________________________________
Rose nods in approval of Natalie's choice to send someone to find Venus, it didn't seem like a good idea for her to be out there alone for to long. She looks to the ash covering the ground and paws at it, sending up a cloud around her hooves causing her to cough. It was incredible to her that the Exiles had gotten as much of the aweful suff cleared away as they had. At Amblyn's comment about Olde the filly's eyes go wide then quickly narrow in anger. "And what right do you have to judge me?" she says darkly, ears pinned flat against her head. "Olde is my home, my people would not forsake me." She was sure that if only she could get back home she would be welcomed and could resum her training, she just had to escape first. She takes a step forward so she is almost nose to nose with the older mare. "You speak as if I am with the Bachelors by choice. You know nothing." With that she returns back to her group, tail still twitching in annoyance. The mare wasn't worth her time. Now the other, Yonne, seemed more reasonable. She smiles encouragingly when she agrees to leave and find Venus. “I expect there won’t be any trouble while I am gone?” She nods. "We'll try to get more of the earth cleared." she replies to the mare's retreating figure. Straying a little ways behind the group she begins sifting through the ash with her hooves, trying to push it into piles as the Exiles had. When the young male introduces himself as Judah she files the name in her mind, making sure to remember it. She makes a conscious choice to ignore the angry words of D'Angelo and Camila. The stallion was a Bachelor and the mares didn't trust him. Nothing would change the past. If they didn't get over it soon, at least to some degree, they would be unable to change the future. Giving up on her attempted pile of ash she returns to the group, they were acting like colts and fillies. "If you all are quite done." she huffs, acting much more than her age. She turns to look at Natalie. "How exactly do we do this?" she asks, once again pawing at the ground and bringing up a cloud of ash. Looking around at the vas destruction she realized the work that needed to be done. It was a rather discouraging sight, not that she would give up on it.

Natalie | Exile Mare | Guard:
Curled ear turning on Amblyn's muttered words of trusting to easy causing Natalie's eyes to narrowed as she gave the mare a pointed a look. Trusting too easily as if she ever could. Gaining something like that from her was a very difficult thing to do more so then one would have thought. Natalie only real reason for what she had done was for them Bachelor group to trust them for if there was any ill intent to them it would show itself. When Yonne offered to go bring Venus she was grateful the mare had. "May you both return safely" Natalie said quietly watching the mare head on in the direction the young mare had gone. However, things seemed to take a turn she hadn't been expecting. Flatting her ears at the dark frightening in tone of the Stallion D'Angelo voice, Natalie moved closer to Amblyn not in fear more in a protective manner. Natalie's own eyes turned cold and her whole body became like a spring just waiting to be let lose at the slightest sign of attack. She maybe at a disadvantage in size wise but that wouldn't stop her from getting in a bite or kick. It was the mare Camila who would brake the tension in her body when the mare spoke out against the stallion. The mare was brave and it made Natalie smile and gaining more respect for her. Now that was over they could work and first would teach them. "It is actually not too hard let me show you." Natalie said lifting her hoof up. Carefully digging in the tip she pulled back making sure to not step down on that hoof she uncovered more like buds of grass. "This way it doesn't harm the buds though this root might take us longer. I do have another idea of how to clear away more ash however its finding whats needed that might prove to be a challenge." Natalie told Camila as well as the filly and colt. She was ignoring D'Angelo for the moment. But he would be useful in helping with find the sticks would need for her idea. "As for what I need for this, that would be a large flattish stick and maybe a some smaller ones to help keep the ash out of noses and mouths." Natalie said this as she looked to the stallion D'Angelo now then to everyone else. Word count: 408 Next up: Venus

The smallest mare's eyes were dull with fatigue. She wanted to lay down again and let her legs rest, but she didn't want to do that with the amount she didn't know about this land. So, she kept on, on foot in front of the other. “Venus? Is that you?” a distant voice called, bringing her attention to the dusty horizon. The voice came into her sight and she knew it to be Yonne. All the smaller mare could muster was a faint, hoarse (lol) neigh in her friend's direction. She took a panicked look around for any Bachelors, she trusted Yonne not side with them, but then again, she trusted fate there would be no more bachelors past the land bridge. . . . “Are you alright?. . . You ran off so quickly…” Yonne trailed off, earning Venus's gaze back. "Um. . ." she started, taking inventory of herself. "For the most part yes. I do have some cuts from the debris, but I'm mostly just sore and tired." she added after a moment. She though more. . ."Say, Yonne. . . I'm sorry to have run off, but, I just. . . I can't be near the bachelors. . . I came here with a new beginning and I don't want them to take that away from me. They took away my first one, so they need to leave before the second one is gone, too. I don't want to be rude and unfair, but they aren't allowed in our territory, Yonne, they aren't seeking refuge and they took their repayment for refuge with the lives and health of out family in the war. They can't have our home, too." She rambled, keeping a panicked stare to the ground.

Amblyn | Exile Mare | Guard Amblyn wasn't the only one feeling tense at the situation. Next to her, the tall mare - Yonne? - seemed equally uneasy and both of them moved restlessly. When her companion left to go find their fled companion, Amblyn felt kind of abandoned. This one, at least, hadn't seemed as easily swayed by friendly smiles and tempting words. Now she was alone with Natalie who, while strong and intelligent, seemed to trust the strangers rather quickly, and her somewhat less opinionated herdmates. She hoped the stallion, at least, would use his bulk in their favour if things went awry.
“I expect there won’t be any trouble while I am gone?” Yonne had said before she'd left and Amblyn glanced about uncertainly. She wasn't so sure.
The only stallion in the exile group now stepped forward and introduced himself. Amblyn regarded him calmly. She knew nothing about him, but as it stood she trusted him more than any bachelor. She had to hope he'd have her back.
Things turned from tense to tempestuous, however, when the bachelor stallion opened his mouth. And his words were far from innocent.
"Would you like me to compliment you? You do have those beautiful jewel blue eyes."
Amblyn snorted. "Empty flattery means nothing to me," she began, but was soon startled to a silence at what he said next.
"Any Bachelor would love to claim you as his."
Her entire body stiffened at his proclamation and her eyes sparked. Had he just...? Yes, he had. The mare's hackles rose and her ears flattened. How dare he!
"And now your true colours shine through. No fake niceties can hide them," she hissed. "Threaten me all you want, bachelor. It will only assure me that I was right in not trusting you. I am no one's to claim!"
"Tell me what needs to be done, Natalie, and I will see it carried out."
Amblyn's tail whipped about angrily as she listened to his lies. Here he was, spouting nice words when he'd just said such vile things to her.
"I'd be careful, Natalie. The moment you do or say something he doesn't approve of this nice shell will fall away and he'll threaten to claim you. He'd take your freedom away for just one ill-spoken word."
The tall bachelor mare spoke next and she seemed equally angry at all of them. Amblyn didn't understand these bachelors and their insistence that bygones be bygones. All should be forgotten and the exiles should simply forget the past. Amblyn could not.
"If you want to waste your energy arguing over petty nonsense then so be it."
"Petty, you call it." She snorted. "Maybe to a bachelor mare freedom means nothing, but I do not see such threats as petty."
Even worse, the young mare next attacked Amblyn, daring even to come mere feet from her. Did they not teach younglings sense in the bachelor herd? Was self-preservation a foreign concept? She could very easily break the filly's leg, if she wanted, yet the young one simply argued and complained. Complained as if she'd been wronged. It made Amblyn rolls her eyes.
"If you all are quite done."
"You speak big words for someone who yet lacks all maturity," she commented calmly. "I would also suggest not invading the space of horses you are not familiar with. You may, one day, find yourself facing someone less friendly and prone to forgive than me. Someone who lives with the likes of him- "Amblyn moved her head in D'Angelo's direction. "should know better."
Natatlie had moved closer to Amblyn, but her words remained calm and she conversed freely with the bachelors. It seemed she would not defend Amblyn in the slightest. It didn't surprise the haflinger mare that she was still all alone.

When Venus started talking, the young mare looked over the other. She lowered her head to get a better look. The cuts on her legs would be manageable, Yonne thought, though she herself wasn’t very good at medicine. She lifted her head though, when the subject changed a bit. Blue eyes searched Venus’, and a frown formed on her face. Pity filled the young mare. So Venus was a previous Bachelor. There was no way she could fault the mare for running, heck, she probably would have as well. In an attempt to comfort the mare, she pressed her muzzle against the others shoulder. “Hey, don’t worry about it.” Yonne said soothingly, “We’d be damned to let the Bachelors take our home. They won’t. We will fight them to the death if that happens, but I can assure you it won’t happen.” She sighed to herself. “I know how you feel, I don’t want them here either but they do seem to want to help us, so we should utilize their abilities.” She pulled her muzzle away. “And I promise you, right now, if that stallion so much as touches a strand of hair on your tail, I’ll kick his head off.” She ended with a smile.

Judah narrowed his eyes at the D'Angelo's words. Even though he wasn't a Guard yet, he would make sure the other stallion regretted any ill attempts. Thankfully Camila's remark seemed to defuse the tense situation as she and Rose turned to Natalie. Turning his own attention attention to the mare, he thought about her stick idea. "I can go look go collect some sticks for everyone if that what would make this go alot easier" he voiced, volunteering himself for the task. "With the fire all the woods will have slim pickins so getting one might land you with a mouth of soot instead of a helpful tool. Would anything else work?" Hopefully by the time he returned Venus and Yonne would have made it back safely.

D'Angelo | Bachelor Stallion | Infantry __________________________________________________________________ The palomino looked off to the side, his ears held slightly against his head as he heaved a short, quiet sigh. Now all he wanted was to get started with the task they were sent here to do in the first place. His attention had been on Amblyn as she spoke, but her words were nothing but boring lectures to his ears. But he hid his annoyance well.
"Okay, alright," D'Angelo began, snapping his first word. He decided to drop his nice act. His humor wasn't welcome here, not among this crowd at least. It definitely wasn't the right time for it either. Great timing, Angelo. But the blue-eyed stallion couldn't help but agree with the dark mare, Camila, as much as he was beginning to hate it. He was slowly beginning to sense his control shifting over to her. She definitely seemed like a take charge kind of mare. The thought actually tugged at the corner of his mouth, bringing a small smile as his gaze rested on her for a few moments. Someone like her doesn't belong with the Bachelors. It was almost a pity. But suddenly his attention switched to Natalie at her demonstration.
"So," he began, tilting his head a bit to the side. "We're just clearing the ash to allow the buds to breathe, right?" One of his ears flicked towards the young stallion, his eyes widening slightly at finally hearing him speak, but most of his attention was on Natalie.

Camila watched Natalie intently as she showed her what she had been doing before they arrived. As she pushed away the ash, a sprout of bright green sprang forth and Camila was momentarily amazed. She couldn't believe that underneath all of the gray, dusty earth was a life that was trying to breach the surface. It was a melancholy feeling, but at the same time it was joyous as well. She smiled, a genuine happy smile for once, realizing that no matter what anyone did to the earth, it would always try and grow through the bad and create itself anew. Finally coming out of her thoughts, Camila nodded to Natalie as she spoke once more. Her face once again reverted to it's serious grimace that seemed to be glued to her features.
"D'Angelo could go with Judah to get the sticks." Camila said. She hoped that suggestion would ease some of the tension; she certainly didn't want D'Angelo alone with any of the mares, so Judah would be the only option. Though she was still wary of him, she hoped Judah could take care of himself if they agreed to that idea. She cast a sideways glance at D'Angelo, to see his reaction. "The rest of us can stay here and continue to do what Natalie and her group have already started." It was hard for Camila to not sound like she was barking orders, but it suddenly felt natural to her to be taking charge. She liked it; back on the East Island, the stallions and most of the mares paid Camila little mind when she spoke up, but now that the Exiles were listening, she didn't really want to give it up. She was cautious though, she knew that D'Angelo was still a Bachelor stallion and wouldn't take kindly to someone stepping on his toes. Camila was stubborn though and she decided to push to see just how far she could go.

_________________________________________________________________
"As if I can't take care of myself." Rose huffs, not even looking at the older mare. She'd been kicked before, she'd been chased by Bachelor stallions, she could hold her own. She turns her full attention to Natalie. Obviously her and Amblyn were going to have problems and it wasn't worth her time when she had things to do. "That doesn't sound to hard." she smiles at Natalie, before looking to the ground and using the tip of her striped hoof to free a small patch of grass. It was fascinating that underneath all this ash there could be a bit of life. Even flames couldn't destroy the earth. 'Things can always get better...' She looks up again when Camila speaks of Judah and D'Angelo. It was obvious the mare was confident at taking charge and it pleased Rose. Better to have a decent mare who could be her friend lead them than a Bachelor stallion or a crazy Exile mare. Natalie and maybe even Yonne seemed kind but she would never listen to Amblyn. She waits for D'Angelo's answer. If he refused she would volunteer to collect sticks with the young Exile, it would get her away from all of the mares. She didn't think D'Angelo would ever leave the mares alone for fear they might run off.

Dante | Bachelor Colt | Youngling ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dante had bravely volunteered for this task, with his dam; Kaira proudly seeing him off. "This will be good practice for you, before you'll start your real training when your older." She had claimed. According to her, the exiles where the least of a thread to the bachelors, especially after the apparent 'peace agreement' the bachelors and exiles had made for the war. Though, that was all the young colt knew about the foreign herd.
He watched in awe as the land changed where ever their little band went. He had never been this down south before. He had never even been near the beach before! One thing he learned quickly was to NEVER try and drink sea water again! It was gross! The salty taste of it still lingered on his tongue when they reached the Exile land.
He had been nervous of course, while he followed his small fellowship to his land's border and over the land bridge. But he felt more safely being with the 3 of them. Rose was one of the older younglings Dante had seen often, though he had never approached her. She never really looked open for a playful game. He knew Camilla vaguely, having seen her talk with his mum from time to time, having watched them from in-between Kaira's legs. D'Angelo, however, was completely unknown to the colt. Though, as both his parents had always warned him about the stallions of the herd, Dante kept is fair distance and focused on staying near the young mares.
But he soon discovered they were less likely to be of better company. Their words where harsh towards they current leader, and they energy wasn't any better. So Dante had decided to keep his mouth shut and observe the others while following orders that were given.
He had stayed in the rear when they met up with the strangers. He was a little shocked that a mare that had run off at the sight of them. Dante knew of his herds ways, and knew they were viewed bad by others, but it hit him then and there that others herds really did feared and hated them. Luckily further exchanged seemed to go well, and before he knew it Dante was carefully mimicking Natalie's instructions. His tongue out in concentration, Dante found that his still long gangling legs weren't the perfect tools for this job.
Never the less, he tried his very best to save those little green sprites!

Natalie | Exile mare | Guard:
Natalie looked at Judah when he offered to go look for sticks. Those his words after words did make since. "Well, if you can't find any that aren't too damaged then maybe some kind of large plant branch?" Natalie said thinking it over. If a stick wouldn't work the only other thing she could think of was a stiff thick plant branch but still that would mean going into the greener area of the land to find one. If they really had no other option then their hooves would have to go. Though she was sure that wouldn't go over very well with a few of the members. Her head turned back to D'Angelo when he asked if what she had just showed them was they needed to do and she nodded though her once more turned her marbled eyes back on Camila when she offered for D'Angelo to go with Judah. Now that was a better idea then allowing any of the mares to go with him. "Very well that sounds like a good idea to me unless anyone else wishes to help them look?" She asked the others. She wouldn't force any of the mares to go with them but left it as a choice. Looking to the younger members of Bachelor group Natalie moved to observe them to see if how there were doing with the example she had showed them. She smiled at Rose when she had pulled away ash to see the green and the fascination that came to the filly's face. Finally she moved to the colt who had been the quietest of the group. Seeing him try so hard made her smile.

Venus leaned her head into Yonne's shoulder as they walked back towards the group. She dreaded every step closer, and every step they had taken she relished. Her thought were magnifying of the horror of bachelors and she dreaded facing them. She looked up and saw horses on the horizon. They had made some headway in clearing the ash and the group was smaller. Had the bachelors taken her friends away as captives? Where were they? Panic was spreading quickly through out the small mare's body.
"Yonne I can't do this. Yonne they're gone, they've taken them, Yonne, we have to do something, the tall one is still there Yonne they're gone!"Venus cried, suddenly getting another burst of energy. She was stepping about and her eyes welled, her friends- her family was gone. They took them where were they? Surely those that remained heard her screaming and Venus knew she was worrying Yonne, but he had no such control for her feelings clouded her judgement far too much.

Amblyn watched the on-goings with narrowed eyes. Her fellow exiles seemed to take to the bachelor mares, at least, and friendly words were exchanged. The stallion received a colder welcome, but even he seemed to be met with begrudging acceptance. It made her skin itch. They were so trusting, all of them. What if this was an envoy, sent to keep them distracted while the others gathered nearby? What if they were meant to distract them with pretty faces and friendly words? She couldn't simply put aside her unease.
So she didn't. She just watched them carefully, especially so when their little herd split up. It was bad enough two of the mares had left, but now their stallion wanted to as well. With the bachelor D'Angelo, nonetheless!
"The rest of us can stay here and continue to do what Natalie and her group have already started," the mare called Camilla said. Amblyn bristled. Now a bachelor was making decisions for them? Decisions that might be ill-advised? She kept her temper in check, but she certainly didn't agree.
"I will join them, if the stallion goes," she spoke, teeth grinding. "I will not let someone like him walk around freely with someone who's not even finished his training. Tall and strong though he may be."
She glanced down at the ground. "Besides, my hooves are far too heavy to perform a task quite as...delicate as this."
If they were to split up, she needed to be where the danger was. And right now, that was the large palomino stallion.
"As if I can't take care of myself."
Ah, to be young and convinced nothing would ever befall you. It had been years since Amblyn had been quite so convinced she could conquer the world. Fire and ash had quickly made her see sense.
"That's nice," she murmured. This young mare was harmless, but a distraction. Like the young colt who finally seemed sparked into action. The haflinger mare watched as he joined Natalie in her work. He seemed focused, at least, and intent on doing his job. Amblyn could respect that. From all of them, she feared his threat the least.
"And who are you again?" she asked, trying to keep her voice gentle. She could be nice. If he didn't provoke her.

With Venus’ head on her shoulder, Yonne moved carefully as to direct the other female. She had to be honest with herself, that she hadn’t seen first hand the terror the Bachelors could inflict until now. Granted she had seen the war, but this was something she thought was more terrifying. Fighting against an enemy was one thing, but this? She felt she prefered to see the bloodied faces of fighting mares and stallions to the pure, horror stricken expression of a Ex-Bachelor mare. It broke her heart, and she was inwardly glad that she was found by the Exiles as a filly, and not the Bachelors. Who knows, maybe she would have been one of those brainwashed mares who relished the idea of popping out colts. She was hardly even paying attention to the horizon, her thoughts so dead set on keeping Venus upright and as calm as she could be. When she did see the figures, it was too late. It was as if all hell broke lose. Venus’ sudden shrieking was enough for Yonne to almost lose herself to panic as well. She was no fighter, even if she was large. Her flight instinct kicked in for a split second and she backed away from the horrified mare. But once she was but a few feet away, she shook herself and looked back at the horses. “Hold on Venus, that can’t be. Look. Isn’t that Amblyn and Judah with him?” She knew her voice was trembling, but she kept talking as she stood still to calm her breathing. “Yes, that’s Amblyn.” She had to convince Venus, as well as herself. Her shoulders kept shivering from the fright the mare gave her. “There is no way Amblyn would allow that stallion to take her and Judah. She’d have kicked him all the way to the Olde Isle. I bet they just separated to cover more area.” She hoped she was correct, else she would have to fulfill her promise to protect Venus, and she wasn’t sure she would be able to.
