Ears flicking back as a new command reach them, Eyrin's almost faltered in what he was doing, worried about Stormcry's well-being as she broke away from the group, luring a great deal of beast with her. There was no time though and he was not in the position to question her tactics or deny that this was probably the better decision with eye on the group to take rather than standing around and trying to hold out. For the group, not for her. But as said before there was no time. Io ad Effie were running and soon him and the other stallions were too. A couple of grassbeast seemed to persue them and Eyrin - never having been the fastest one - had to an awkward back kick in order to keep one from nipping his heels.
In Eyrin's eyes the ravin was huge and he had to tap into his willpower to not slow down or skid to a halt completly as he neared it. Orders were clear, make it accross the ravin. Once they were over, Stormcry could come too so there was no time to loose.
Kanu lept first and spurred on by quite litterally running for his life, did the same. For a second he was flying and if he had to be honest it felt pretty neat, but then he was falling. Eyrin let out a something between a gasp and a cry, realizing he was not making it. Untrained, heavy built, maybe both, whatever was to blaim, the brown stallion back hooves hit air, where his front one hit ground, making him slip back on the edge. He struggled to hold on, but with his hooves providing little grip and his behind hanging in the air, it was proving rather difficult.

STORMCRY | EXILE MARE | GUARD
Pain stung, sharp and electric, in her skin as teeth made contact with a hind leg for a moment before the beast was flung away as she lashed out at it. However, the damage had been done; it didn't hurt too badly, but that didn't mean it wouldn't become infected at a later date if she survived this hare-brained scheme, as the blasted hounds' jaws were known to be filthy. This wasn't the time to ponder on it, though, and so she returned her full attention to her main objective: not getting torn to shreds.
Stormcry's heart pounded in her ears like an ominous drum as she ran, aimlessly at first, but then beginning to follow a route that would hopefully allow her to return to the ravine without being blocked off by the grassbeasts. Her breath was dry and harsh in her throat, smoke-scarred lungs beginning to burn, and her vision on her right side clouded ghastly red with her own blood that oozed in a sluggish tide from her forehead. Time seemed to stretch on for an eternity; were the others safe yet? How long had it even been? Extending muscles, hooves to ashen ground, digging in and propelling herself forward at a dizzying speed. All of these things seemed to happen in slow motion, and oddly enough, the dark mare felt deathly calm. It was the supposed feeling of warmth before you froze to death, the resigned tranquility of a man who knew it would take a miracle for him to live. Still, she pushed on; gods knew they were long overdue for some miracles. If she was lucky, she might just be the recipient of one.
They must have had enough time by now. It felt like it had been hours since she had started running, though it probably had only been a few minutes. Still, her limbs were beginning to bear the weight of lead, muscles and tendons turned to rubber, lungs screaming desperately for air, for rest. If she wanted any chance at survival, she would have to turn back now. An image of her son, gleeful and grinning a smile too big for his face beside her loving husband who never seemed to tire of her despite all the troubles she brought to him each night, came to mind. For them, and her brother, she would try her best to return.
Stormcry changed course, diving into a thicket of trees that had burst back into fresh life, and bounded through them nimbly, weaving through the intertwined limbs and gradually turning back the way she had come; it had been a long time since she had last been here, but she knew the land better than she knew herself. She burst out a few hundred meters from the ravine, with snarls of the grassbeasts roaring in her ears. They were right on her heels. Hope flared in her heart and she put on a burst of newfound speed, lengthening her stride with all tiredness forgotten as she made out the forms of the others, all safe, though Eyrin was struggling his way to safety she knew the others would assist him. She was going to make it!
A heavy form slammed into her blind side. Then another. Then an entire group of snarling, snapping, stinking bodies at a time.
Thrown off balance, the air rushed from her lungs, Stormcry fell.
Teeth tore, claws sliced, and saliva dripped from open maws. It took her a moment to process what had happened, mind whirring into action frantically. Bodies swarmed over her like flies to a carcass, and an unwarranted, ear-splitting wail of agony wrenched itself from her throat as red-hot pain seared itself into her stomach. Wildly, she struggled against the weight of the creatures that had brought her down, panic beginning to set in. In her mad scramble, she found herself at her feet, but the world spun dizzily around her, warping in and out of comprehension. Desperate now, she threw herself foward, and rushed in a frenzy of movement toward the ravine once more, ignoring the fangs that sank deep into her flesh from the beasts that still clung to her neck and back. The rift in the ground rushed toward her at a delirious speed, and purely by instinct she judged her takeoff point and launched herself through the air with no time for graceful calculation; she merely jumped as far as she could, legs outstretched and hounds still clamoring at her skin. At landing, her legs buckled beneath her with shock and she hit the ground hard and rolled lifelessly like a ragdoll, crushing the grassbeasts underneath her frame as she did. The black mare drew in a wrenching breath that her lungs so begged for, before huffing it back out in a relieved sigh. She had done it; she had survived.

She flashed him a very rare smile and stepped back, ears swivelling to check for danger, she then turned to Kanu " I understand what your saying but what if one of the other had jumped and not been able to get over, they would have fallen no? or what happens if there were more predators on this side? Io wouldn't have been able to fight them single-handedly...not with that injury" She keep her tone cool, but respectful. She turned her head " Storm" she screamed and stood at the edge of the Ravine " JUST A LITTLE FURTHER, COME ON" she watched the mare and chewed her lip and watched her fly over the ravine She moved to the mares side " Steady, stay there just rest a moment" Effie looked around the wasteland was barren " I can't help her, the wounds will get infected all of them, gods help us" She turned to look at the little group and her face fell...what would they do now. Io | Exile Mare | Scout __________________________________________________________________ Sore feet were definitely the least of the pale mare's worries. Io lifted her head at the sound of heavy hoof steps that she had immediately assumed to have belonged to none other than Kanu, and when her eyes met his, she found her assumption correct. "Kan-" Her sentence barely began as it was cut off by his words. Guilt instantly tugged at her gut. "I-I'm sorry Kanu." The words fell naturally from her lips as she lowered her head and dropped her gaze to the ground like a foal having been scolded. Fortunately her attention was caught when Effie quickly made it over toward Eyrin, who she had just realized had attempted to make it across just after Kanu. But he had just barely made it across.
Once the guard mare had pulled him a safe distance onto land and away from the edge she walked over to him, nudging his shoulder. "Eyrin, are you alright?" But without waiting for a response she looked up, her eyes searching as Effie suddenly screamed their leader's name. "Stormcry!" Io shouted almost automatically once she caught sight of the dull coated mare. It was a horrible sight to behold. But luckily she had managed to make it across. Thank goodness. She released a relieved sigh.
Following after the light spotted mare, Io found herself at their team leader's side. "Stormcry?" Her eyes were full of worry as they scanned over the darker mare's injuries. At the moment the pale faced mare had ignored her own. Stormcry's were far greater. But she hoped at least her sacrifice would allow them to have at least a short break to catch their breath. At the mention of infected wounds Io's ears flicked towards Effie and Kanu, wondering what their herd captain would suggest for them to do. None of them were healers, as far as she knew, and she herself knew that salt water would at least ward off infection. But they were no where near the coast. "Storm, are you able to stand?" She asked her in her usual sweet tone of voice. "You can lean on me if you need to." She offered with a small smile.

KANU | STALLION | EXILE CAPTAIN
The dark stallion's concentration was occupied by only his worry for his sister. He watched the dusty horizon intensely, brows furrowed and mouth parted slightly. He flinched when Effie dove to help Eyrin, Kanu leaned in but slowly removed himself from the situation when Effie had easily drug the smaller Exile to safety. He nodded at Effie's words, "I understand, your intentions were in the right place, but there wouldn't have been any risk of falling or being attacked if we had all gone together. I just don't want anything to happen to you because I- or any of us- weren't there." He lowered his head slightly, letting her know that his words were out of worry and love for his herd members, and not simply because he didn't agree with what Effie and Io had done. He smiled warmly at the pale mare and nudged her gently, but before he could say anything, a loud howl broke the thick, polluted air and Kanu twisted his neck sharply toward it.
Storm was in trouble. Kanu gasped at the sight of her being pulled to the dusty earth beneath a pile of mangy mutts. He could hear their jaws snapping violently, Storm's screams growing muffled under the weight of her enemies. Kanu's breathing grew labored and he felt tears prick his eyes, but he gulped them back desperately and instead bit his lip with anticipation. 'Come on, Storm come on, you can do it. I know you can do it. COME ON.' His mind thought wildly as his glassy eyes scanned the problem before him. He backed up, ready to jump across the ravine again in order to help her, but before he could, she rose. She rose from death's clutches like a phoenix from the flames. He nearly toppled over with relief as she began forward, pushing despite the Grassbeasts still latching onto her flesh. "You can do it Poppet!" He screeched as she reached the parting in the earth.
After she had jumped, Kanu positioned himself so that when she landed, he'd be able to at least reach her before her head hit the ground. She landed violently, her limbs flailing and a vast cloud of dust erupting at the collision. He dove by her side, lifting her head and placing it carefully on his forearms. His bright blue eyes were wide and sparked with the determination to see her through. She was still breathing, that was a first. "Storm, Storm can you hear me? Nod if you can hear me!" The dark Exile's words were sharp and rushed, if anyone desired to see Kanu panicked, today was their lucky day. He could barely think straight. The only words that formed in his brain were hurt, help and protect. He turned to Io as she spoke, her calming tone helping to bring Kanu back to the real world, although he didn't want to be there at that moment.
At Effie's question, Kanu frowned. There was no water, no herbs or large leaves to dress the wounds. Storm was bleeding profusely, and Kanu worried for her health. He looked around for anything that could aid them and their injured herd-mate. An idea suddenly sprung to mind, "We'll wet the mud, and coat her wounds with it. It's a useful way to keep the sun off them and keep them from bleeding too much. Once we find water we can wash her off, reducing infection and hopefully keeping her alive."

Eyrin had little time to focus on their leader coming back, struggling to not slip back of the ledge. It was Effie who pulled him up the rest of the way and he grunted as she tugged at his main. His relief of not falling into a ravin was short lived though and he lowered his head in shame at the mares half playful jab. She was right, he was proving to be nothing but a death weight on their mission, nothing of use. "I'm sorry," he muttered, adverting his eyes.
They fell on Io who stepped up to him, nudging his shoulder. He quickly moved to stand up, nodding and staring at the wound on her chest. "You are hurt," he stated sadly.. as if it wasn't plain obvious. Cries made him look around and he saw their leader jump, clearly harmed by the many grassbeast at the edge of the ravin behind her. Before he could register what he was doing, he found himself moving towards the mare, stopping just a little while away. He almost gagged at sight from the crushed grassbeast, but he was too concerned by the wounds that littered Stormcry's skin. His ears swiveled as the others helped the mare, his mind raising. He would be fine, the wound on his leg was minor. It stung, but it was already healing. The other's however... if it got infected. He heard Effie whisper and he turned his attention to Kanu and her. "Herbs," he felt himself saying," if we could find green, if we could find herbs. Comfrey or Calendula or both." His eyes shifted back to Stormcry and then Io before moving to the rest of them checking for injuries of their own. "Any of those, it'd help them."

STORMCRY | EXILE MARE | GUARD
Voices crowded around, and a soft support was placed beneath her head, causing her to take another deep breath before she reopened her eyes. Her right was still misted and stinging with blood and dirt, but through her left she could make out Kanu's forelegs cradling her head and the troubled faces of her herd-mates as they swam into focus. Wearily she gave a steady nod at her brother's frantic request, and listened to each of the worried ideas suggested by her team, before she took the task upon herself to see how bad the damage was. The extent seemed to be scratches and a few puncture wounds from the hungry fangs that had clung to her skin, from what she could see, but her heart sank as she inspected the burning injury on her stomach. It was deep, the skin mangled and torn as blood oozed from it steadily. Before the others could ask what she was doing, she rolled over so that the wound sank into the ashen ground; a grunt of pain escaped her gritted teeth as she allowed it to be coated in the dirt, before she responded stubbornly to Io's request, clambering to her feet slowly. "S'fine." She rebuffed, her voice betraying her as it sounded slurred and woozy to her ears. "We gotta keep...moving-" She broke off, eyes widening as she focused on something in the distance, a cold stone of despair sinking into her belly. A high wave, a wall, of red dust and sand raced toward them; already she could feel the wind from it whipping her mane away from her face.
"The ocean!" Stormcry breathed, before she turned back to her group, face grim and adrenaline surging her body back to life. "We just need to go a little further. I think the ocean will be the safest place." She ordered, almost pleadingly, as she looked among the banged-up group and felt a surge of pride. They had each looked out for each other without hesitation, and she couldn't have asked for better herd-mates. She cantered a few strides toward the coast before slowing doubtfully and looking back. Would they agree with her now and follow, even after the danger she had put them through?

She watched the mare get up and gave a sigh, she needed treatment and so did the rest of them. "We do need to keep moving, but we need to sort everyone out. We need treatment" She gave a gentle snort and touched the mares shoulder, in response to Eyrin she gave a friendly smile "Don't fret, dear. I'm sure we have all been where you are" she flicked her head round when Storm did and grimaced when she saw the wall of dust coming towards them all "Good lord" she muttered.
She heard what storm said and answered with a "Yes Boss. Lets move guys" she took up position at the rear and began to move when everyone else did, keeping close to the group, the ocean was close now she could almost smell it, she did a little skip and wanted to race ahead of the group to dive into the ocean, but stoppe herself keeping close and watching over everyone.
Effie had become fond of the little group, and they had done well to survive the Grassbeasts, the ocean would help with the wounds and everything would work out...or if it didn't they had each other to fall back on. She gave a little whinny as they neared the ocean and shook her head, snorting loudly her eyes bright and ears flickering this-way and that.//

Io | Exile Mare | Scout __________________________________________________________________ Everything that followed afterward seemed to have occurred so quickly. "B-but, Stormcry, you're in no condition t-" A sudden gust of wind whipped her mane against her shoulders, the loose strands stinging the exposed flesh of the bite wound at her neck, and the stinging pain from that interrupted her sentence. She turned her head in the direction of the wind and her eyes widened at the sight of an enormous wall of red dust that was rapidly making it's way toward them.
The ocean!
Io's head quickly whipped back at the sound of her familiar voice, her ears perked attentively. Let's move guys. One ear twitched at the sound of Effie's voice this time. They were right. That dust storm looked like a nasty one, and Io knew she herself couldn't handle another minute of breathing in that thick, dusty air. She gave a firm nod before she trotted forward, her gate looking a bit odd as she tried to keep pressure off of her injured leg. Finally! They were headed for the coast! Just the thought of that alone already helped to brighten her mood.
"The salt water will be good for our injuries." She said aloud, instantly surprising herself with how confident she sounded. But she didn't stop there. "It'll clean them and help keep out infection." Her steady voice was slightly affected by her panting that was slowly beginning to sound rather wheezy.
There were many factors that kept the snow spotted scout from gleefully galloping towards the beach like she usually would have done. Right now her body ached, her wounds stung, and her lungs burned like fire with each inhale. She needed to rest, they all did. Io instead kept herself somewhat in the middle of the group, close to Kanu and Eyrin. Her braid bounced at her shoulder, nearly threatening to come loose from all that previous activity, fighting off the grassbeasts. But in the end Io couldn't help but feel a sense of pride. Stormcry, Kanu, Effie, and Eyrin; they were all alive, and yes, they all sported some injuries and were currently risking infection, but she felt the burden of their safety settle onto her shoulders. She knew the two guard mares had familys, loved ones waiting for them back home, they needed to come back safetly. A small smile lit her face and she released a ragged breath before she turned to Eyrin. "I'll be okay." It was her response to him for what he had said to her earlier. You're hurt. But so was he. "The salt water will do us all some good." Her tone was sweet and hopeful, but quietly in her mind she was also trying to think of a way to tend to their team leader's belly wound. It looked pretty severe, enough to cause extreme worry. But she didn't let her worry overtake her soft, tranquil expression.

KANU | STALLION | EXILE CAPTAIN
The dark Exile slowly removed his legs from under Storm's head, seeing that she was pushing to stand. He knew there wouldn't be any stopping her from proving her strength, because it's something that she felt she needed to do. No doubt she was doing a fine job, he admired her strength- especially the courage and wit she showed today. He stood up himself, shaking off the excess soot and ash that littered his coat. The whole group looked batted, bruised and wprse for wear, but, Kanu couldn't help but smile proudly at them. They had all come such a long way, it was especially weird looking over those he'd known for so long, and how they suddenly changed to fit the situation- it proved just how well the Exiles could adapt to their surroundings. They were survivors.
At Effie's words, Kanu nodded. They would all be beaten by infection if their wounds weren't treated, even Kanu's meager scratches could cause serious damage if they grew infected. Everyone had the ocean on their minds, and even though Kanu preffered to heal with various greens and mud-like substances- as he did with Io- he knew there would be none of that here and salt water would have to do. Plus, the beach was always a calming place, they'd all hopefully be able to catch their breath and properly be able to get closure on the attack.
"Are you sure you're o-" Kanu's sentence dribbled into silence as his eyes set on the large dust storm approaching. Really? They could never get a break. Kanu instantly turned around, assuming Storm would want to go to the beach to escape the earthy storm. He took a few steps before turning his head over his shoulder to look at his group, waiting for them to make their way over. Everyone kicked into gear and Kanu remained at the front, somewhat behind Storm. He wanted to make sure she was ok, but he kept his ears on everyone behind him and every two seconds his eyes darted to the daunting cloud of dust that threatened to swallow them up. He had high hopes that they'd make it to the beach in time, the storm seemed to be moving slow, despite it already being strong enough to whip everyone's manes and tails wildly.
"Keep the pace guys, a little faster than a walk. I know you're injured but we're all here to support eachother if need be. That storm is our first priority." He said, glancing to his sister. In a sense SHE was his first priority. He remained silent for the rest of the trip, travelling through the group and making sure everyone was ok regularly. He sometimes walked beside Io, Eyrin or behind Effie, just anywhere he felt he needed to be to protect is family. Doing health checks were probably the thing he was most confident in doing, he had done them countless times over the years and loved being able to check up on everyone and make sure they were ok- and help them if they weren't.

Eyrin | Exile stallion
Eyrin was still buzzy contemplating suggesting to go back to the last green land to look for herbs - he wasn't exactly sure the sea alone would do the trick - when he heard Stormcry call 'the ocean!'. His head snapped up, his eyes quickly finding the cloud of red dust racing towards them. He didn't need to be told twice and turned quickly, only a slight limp slowing his normal pace. Scouting gave him a lot of walk practise after all. He kept to the side a bit, enabling him to look over their group. It suited his mind knowing he could quickly spot if someone needed help this way. It took him a second to understand what Io was saying, but he soon figured out that she was reacting to his earlier show of concern. He sent her a slight smile. "I hope it wil be enough," he answered, eyes sliding to their leader, more specifically so the wound on her belly. It looked bad and sure sometimes wounds looked worse than they were, he the clums that he was would know, but this were predator inflicted wounds, not by running into rocks and trees. And while he wanted to be optimistic, he also had that pessimstic -or was that logical?- voice talking in the back of his head that this was too big, too dirty a wound to be fixed with water alone. As he went, he hoped the voice was wrong.

STORMCRY | EXILE MARE | GUARD A rush of relief flooded through her every limb and taunt muscle as each of her herdmates agreed and followed without dispute. At this point, the dark mare was eternally grateful to them; they were making her job so much easier than it could be. She set the pace at a brisk walk, the smell of salt water in her nostrils as she panted with rasping, pained breath. Her stride was slightly hobbled as she tried to avoid the flash of pain that came each time the skin on her stomach was stretched too far and opened the wound further. Stormcry glanced out the corner of her eye at her brother, who was watching her with concern; from behind she could feel the worried eyes of the others. Any other time, with any other horses, and she would have snapped at them out of annoyance, but now she felt only warmth. These horses, she felt, appreciated and respected what she had done for them; not something she felt often, these days. These herdmates, job of guard aside, had been worth risking her life for.
It didn't take them long to reach the blue waters, but the storm was close on their heels- she could feel the first, stray grains of sand and dust beginning to assault her skin- and so she continued on her way down, not slowing or hesitating even a step as she stepped into the water and kept walking up to her belly, braced for the pain that was sure to come. But, prepared as she was, an agonized gasp still forced itself from her lips as the wound made contact with the sea. She let it soak, guts convulsing with pain, and looked up to her group. "Is everyone alright?" She called, eyes scanning them fretfully.

Effie tried to control herself but once she saw Stormcry head for the water and wade in the mare made a break for it, bolting down the beach giving a few little kicks and leaping into the water, she went further and began to swim her wounds were stinging but she was just too happy to be in the water, she gave a short laugh and dived down. She was at ease under the water, she resurfaced after what seemed like hours, she looked around her. The team looked better for being near the water, and Effie could agree, everything was better where the ocean was concerned.
"Whats the plan after this, which way do we go?" she asked gently as she swam back to the group, she walked onto the sand and slunk out of the water, shaking gently and letting the breeze ruffle her hair, that not stuck out at odd places. She gave a lopsided grin and looked at their surroundings, she gave a strech and then dropped and rolled on the sand, burying her face slightly, and snorting the sand away.
She lifted her head and looked around at the group once more "Are we going to hold up, and stay here for a while or move out and hope our wounds stay...nice" she arched a brow and asked they definitely didn't need their wounds do go south and one of them end up with sepsis...not a good idea she had already played healer to another with sepsis, she wrinkled her nose and allowed her mind to wander away.

Io | Exile Mare | Scout __________________________________________________________________ The dappled mare watched as their team leader waded out into the water. With tired and still trembling muscles she stayed back, almost hesitant before she too made her way towards it. She remained silent as she waded out to her knees, pausing for a few moments before she continued a little deeper into the water. Every little scratch and bite mark stung the moment the cold salt water made contact with her skin. But she didn't let it bother her too much.
Her ears twitched at Stormcry's question. Is everyone alright? Io took a careful look at each member of their little team. They all sported injuries, but none were as serious as hers. Her gaze rested on the dull mare, her eyes showing her concern. That belly wound of hers needed to be treated, and quietly she assumed that she couldn't be the only one who shared her worries. "I think we'll be alright." She finally spoke up, not taking her eyes off of the mare as she did. "My concerns are more for you, Stormcry." Her ears flattened lightly. "I hate to make a fuss, but we need to do something about your injury." She insisted.
In the back of her mind she hoped that the guard wouldn't take her words to offense, although she didn't seem like that sort of individual. But after what she had done for them Io couldn't bare to think of another worse case scenario happening to them. They needed a break.
For the next few minutes her gaze traveled from Stormcry to the swirling dust storm further up the shore. What a mess. Their home had turned into an unforgiving wasteland, so it seemed, in the least. Suddenly she was snatched from her worrisome thoughts as a small wave crashed against her, spraying salt water over her body and causing her to gasp out in surprise as the cold drops seeped into the punctured flesh at the crest of her neck. Io bit her lip to silence herself. Carefully she turned and tilted her head in order to view her injury. It was a nasty bite and was uglier than she had thought. As she took in a steady breath she lowered her head to the surface in order to gently splash more water onto it. At least it would somewhat help. It was better than nothing after all.
