Eyrin was enjoying how the aura surrounding their group had grown more relaxed. It seemed that their leader's question had helped ease whatever tenseness that had been surrounding them and he smiled back at the slight smile Kanu sent him. His enjoyment was short lived though as Stormcry suddenly urged them to be quite. His ears immediatly perked up to attention, his hearth beat increasing a bit in pace. What was wrong?
"Grassbeasts!"
He swore his heart skipped a beat - and not in a good way - when he heard what had suddenly caused this change. He quickly moved to do as instructed, backing up in between his teammates. He looked at Io seeing her ears pinned back and her lips pulled into a snarl. He vaguely noted he should noted he should not get onto her bad side. Turning his head back forwards, he answered loudly, "Yes, madam!" to Stormcry's commands.
He waited tensely as they waited for the creatures to show themselves, his ears swiveling as he tried to predict the direction they'd be coming from, but to him the sounds seemed to come from all around as he was trying his best to keep calm. A shiver ran up his spine as he saw several shadows move through the dusty fog. His heart was racing a mile an hour and he pressed closer to the others, not wanting to leave a gap that'd leave his team vulnerable. 'Crush their skulls,' he thought grimly, 'Now's finally the moment to throw your weight around.'

STORMCRY | EXILE MARE | GUARD
Loud and clear, boss. We won't let you down. Yes, madam! The confirmations came back strong and firm, and she felt a tingle of relief down her tense spine. No reply yet from Kanu or Gaius, but she knew Kanu too well to expect a calm reply from him in such a situation as this, and Gaius, she would just have to put her faith in.
Her eyes scanned the land sharply as bodies, wraithlike, ghosted in and out of the smog. Her breath hitched with apprehension. Time ticked by agonizingly slow, sweat beading on her skin as she begged for this damned waiting to be done with. Cowardly things. Show yourselves! Come and just try your luck, I dare you. Breath hummed hot and damp in she and her companions' throats, and sandy wind caressed their manes and tails. Eyes glinted, hooves stamped, ears swiveled, and skin twitched. Silence. Gazes flickered from beasts to companions, teeth of horses and hound gnashed, and breaths were held.
And then it began.
Young and stupid, a smaller beast split away from the pack and charged forward, salivating jaws clacking open and shut as he hurled himself at the head of their formation; she herself. Time seemed to slow as she dumbly watched it cut through the air, claws glinting and eyes dark with greed; but then, in a dizzying sense of acceleration, her body reacted and she rose to her hind legs, forelegs lashing out to make contact. Senses and smells and sounds rushed to meet in a single moment of paused time. The snap of fangs near her forehead, the scent of rotting breath, the feel of mangy fur over gaunt ribs; the high pitched wail of agony as her hooves made a shattering touchdown. Then she was pushing back, pushing down, slamming the creature in a heap back to the ashen ground with a sickening crunch. A single whine left its body before she coldly, mercilessly, put it out of its misery. Once, bile would have risen in her throat at the heartless action, but now she only rolled the carcass away without a word so that she would not trip on it while fighting its kin before lifting her head to meet the wave of grassbeast that had begun to surge forward at her slaughter with howls of not only hunger, but outrage. There could be no pity now; this was it. Kill or be killed.

Effie | Mare | Exile guard
Effie allowed Kanu to go silent and just forced a smile and allowed him to think. Once they were all backed up together after Stomcry's shout she loved hearing everyone's confirmation that the message was heard, it was nice to have a solid team and she was ready to take on anything jumping from the smog. she silently thought Bring.It.On.
Effie grimaced and watched the beasts fly towards the small group. She took a breath, and fixed on the beast she snapped her jaws and watched the beast come towards her, it went straight for her neck, she tucked her head in and gave a little grunt and grabbed the beast as it went for her, stepping and then throwing it to the ground crushing its skull before it could whip round, she nudged the body slightly to the side and planted her feet. The air smelt of blood now and a mix of mouldy dog, she wrinkled her nose in response but kept a trained eye on the shadows. She tossed her head and planted her feet, why was it so smoggy why did the conditions have to be like this now. She chewed her lip and looked around her it was nice to know that she had a team around her that were fighting like champions, she desperately wanted to bolt and go take on the Grassbeasts bombing around and killing them as she found them, but she knew that they would only gang on her and tear her limb from limb. {Post 3, 264 words}

Io | Exile Mare | Scout __________________________________________________________________ Io had been waiting impatiently until the moment they finally decided to reveal themselves, slinking out of the thick smog like snakes. Her heart was pounding rapidly in her chest. When Stormcry had been the first to engage the first grassbeast, her ear had been facing her direction, for she feared taking her eyes off of the area in front of her. Silently she was more than grateful that Kanu was at her side. But she couldn't help but feel a twinge of anger and frustration at the fact that they had to meet again under circumstances such as this. Here they were up against these wretched beasts all over again. But this time things were going to be different. She wasn't going to run away this time. No way.
As the grassbeasts surged forward it took all of her strength to force her to stand her ground. This is our home! Luckily the first one to confront her had been a fairly small one, but it was no less vicious than the rest of them. In order to keep herself in their formation she waited for it to come to her. Its dark brown pelt clung close to its thin, almost bony body. This shouldn't be too hard, but she couldn't be too quick to judge. Suddenly it jumped toward her, jaws snapping and missing her muzzle by only a few inches. In alarm Io immediately reared up, coming back down with a loud thud, sending up a small cloud of ash when her hooves made contact with the ground. Thankfully for her this caused the creature to back up a good amount until it ran at her again, this time from the side. Unfortunately Io couldn't find a way to dodge it without breaking from her spot. She gasped, choking back a frightened scream as it jumped at her shoulder, its jaws snapping at her face and managing to tear a nick in her left ear.
Pest! Io did the first thing that came to her mind. She turned her head sharply and ripped the canine from her shoulder, biting down as hard as she could on the loose scruff of fur between its shoulders. She reared once more before she brought it slamming to the ground, but her next move seemed to have come naturally as her front hooves came back down on it's skull. There was a sickening crack and she found herself staring with wide, horrified eyes at the blood staining her forelegs. W-what have I done..? She swallowed.

KANU | STALLION | EXILE CAPTAIN
There was a deafening silence lingering in Kanu's mind, thoughts, words, images and peaceful memories had vanished, leaving an empty, barren void of black and blue hues. It was happening. Kanu's frame twitched slightly and he tilted his head, cracking the bones at the base of his neck as if he were limbering up. His eyes were piercing, slashing through the grey and watching the Grassbeasts closely. He attempted many times to calculate just how many there were without taking his eyes off the group of them in front of him, but it was mere impossible as they varied in numbers, sifting in and out of the fog. They began to taunt the group of horses, jumping from their cover and snapping at the equines before darting away before anything could be done or said. It was easy to see that this tactic of theirs was beginning to irritate Kanu, his breathing grew heavy and his eyebrows anchored themselves over his narrow, icy orbs. If they didn't make a move soon, Kanu would have to do something, not out of spite to their leader, but out of reflex, impulse, compulsion. The hunger inside him was beginning to crawl from his stomach to his brain, clinging to it and expanding over the surface so much as to blacken it and rid it of any usual thought processes. Stop... Stop, stop, stop. Kanu don't let it take you over. DON'T. The ones who haven't seen this side of you don't need to see it. Ever. Just, focus on the Grassbeasts, focus on those around you, Cholena, Dawne, focus. FOCUS. The thoughts were like robotic replays, continuously travelling through the range of his mind, trying to dull the dirty, violent emptiness- that just happened to be full of horrid thoughts.
Kanu's mind was a constant inner argument, yet, you probably wouldn't have been able to tell. He was still, focused on the outside, which served him well in a way because it eliminated the chance of him getting distracted and potentially missing an opportunity to vent his anger on these horrid animals.
Finally, he was forced to snap back to reality just as one of the mangy mutts leaped at his face, it's teeth making a loud snapping noise as they collided every few seconds. Kanu let out a bellowing laugh, perhaps a little maniacal as he caught the beast by the throat and thrashed it back and forth, his eyes wide- crazed even. The canine was yelping, calling for help. And help arrived. Another smaller Grass beast lunged and began nipping at Kanu's hocks irritatingly, so, disregarding the prey in his mouth for a moment, Kanu looked down, reared and landed on the younger one, driving his hoof so heavily into the animal that it collapsed it's rib cage and Kanu's foot got stuck inside it. With a grunt, Kanu pulled his blood encased hoof from his trophy and slammed the one in his mouth on top. With mouth free from fur and flesh, Kanu bit the wounded Grassbeast until it finally died. This was funner than Kanu thought it would be.

Eyrin's eyes shifted feverishly as he waited for the beast to come at them. His nostrils flared under his heavy breathing and his mind was racing a mile and hour as well as his heart. How many were there? With them dissappearing in and out of the smog it was difficult to estimate. Time dragged on and it was getting on his nerves. It made him almost wish for them to attack, just to end this waiting game.
And they did.
The first had charged death on to their leader and Stormcry had made sure the attack was shortlifed. The crunching that followed made Eyrin feel sick to the stomach, but he pushed the feeling down. They were in danger, more were coming now, seemingly enraged by the first victim of this battle. It was kill or be killed at this point. Still he did not feel good or even victorious as the first grassbeast fell under his hooves. He had the vague feeling he was gonna be sick later. A scream to his side distracted him long enough to get nicked on his leg by one of the creatures. It didn't live long afterwards though as he slammed his hooves down again with less pitty than before. He had seen Io been bitten by the things, he couldn't help but feel less bad about killing them now. Kanu's laughter still sent a shiver up his spine though, the off tone of it not going unnoticed by the big bay stallion. He should have been more attention to their opponent and less to the others, 'cause as it was one of the smaller beast managed to slip between his front hooves to nip at his belly. Startled, he tried kicking at it, but it was difficult, seeing as he couldn't look both in front and under him. The thing howled as he managed to hit it, but next thing he had to sink his teeth in one in front and the grassbeast snapped at his ankles. Eyrin let out a pained shout.

STORMCRY | EXILE MARE | GUARD
In an instant, the world around her was thrown into haphazard chaos. Pained cries of both equine and canine rang through the air like off-key symphonies, and her heart thudded painfully loud in her ears, threatening to overwhelm all of her senses. There was a wail from Io, rapidly followed by a sickly crunch that could only be the sound of a shattered Grassbeast skull, and Stormcry felt a wave of relief washing over her that the beautiful, pale mare had found it within herself to eradicate the stinking creatures, before she returned to full concentration on her own task, disposing of another hound with a swift swipe, mangling it's seemingly frail spine.
Subconsciously, the sounds of her herdmates filling her ears as she monitored them by instinct. Kanu was fine, as she knew he would be, and she, wincing, ignored his booming, mindless laughter. Effie also, seemed competent, the only sound coming from her the soft panting of exertion. A spark of brief fear shocked through her skin as a shout of pain rang out through the air; Eryin. As she'd feared, he was not as experienced as the rest of them. For now, she could only pray that he would find his bearings swiftly. There was no going to help him; abandon the formation, and they would be next to doomed.
Blood had long stained her ebony coat, and she could not bring herself to look into the faces of those she killed, knowing that one glimpse of those desperate eyes, or of the terror-filled faces of the younger beasts would drain away all of her anger in a heartbeat like water down a stream. Beasts may be beasts, and they may be evil, flesh-eating, blood-thirsty beings, but beings they were all the same. No being deserved this mass slaughter, not even these vile creatures. But then, this world didn't care what was deserved and what wasn't, did it? Only the strong could live. This was held heavy in her heart as she brought down animal after animal, the ground around her group forever staining darker and darker with stinking blood.

Effie | Mare | Exile Guard
Effie flicked an ear towards all of her team mates, and had a quick look round everyone had found their feet...that was until the younger stallion Ey...something, because he was next to her she couldn't leave the grassbeast below him she couldn't leave him in danger "Allow me" she mumbled before snaking her head under his chest and pulling the beast out by its tail and throwing it into another that was just about to come at her, she gave a small smile and went back to fighting "Pull it together, you can do this" She fixed a stare back at the scout, nodded and turned back.
Just as she turned a shooting pain went up her face, as she looked down she noticed the grassbeast latched onto the end of her muzzle, her eyes watered as she stood on the creature and pulled it from her face, it raked it teeth over her muzzle and she dealt the last blow easily. Metallic tasting blood dripped into her mouth now and she blinked and threw herself back into the fight, using her body weight to meet each beast as it threw itself as her, blocking with her shoulder and killing as quickly as she could. Effie had never enjoyed killing creatures and Kanu's laugh made her want to retch, how could he be laughing at a time like this, she caught a beast by its throat, and clenched her teeth, why can't they just stop.
She looked into the smog "Are we all holding up all right, anyone with any really serious injuries?" she questioned, waiting for the next attacker. Hear ears flicked in all directions and for the first time she took account of all her injuries, a few scratches but nothing major, her face hurt but it would heal. Effie fixed a glare on the smog and her muscles coiled as she fixed eyes with another of the beasts, it seemed older and wiser as it came towards her, she gave a tired sigh and met her opponent snapping for his throat, he latched onto the back of her neck and she grunted trying to shake him.Her sides were coated in sweat as she fought him and she wanted to just roll and kill him beneath her, but she could not break formation she was frustrated so she gave a little buck and moved him forwards and managed to get him off.
The two animals were trying to stare each other out, they met with a large thud and Effie gave a sharp squeal just as the beast bit down on her foot. She used her other foot to give a final blow and once the beast was dead she looked around. It hurt now, breathing and just generally being here, she stood up and returned to her stance waiting for the next contender.

Io | Exile Mare | Scout __________________________________________________________________
Slowly, subconsciously, lying in wait; panic, in the beautiful pale scouts mind. Her breathing had become rapid as she furiously kept herself at fending off the grassbeasts. But the smog was growing thick in her lungs and each breath was becoming a struggle. All that time breathing in the fresh, East Island air seemed to have made her soft, and it was making trying to tolerate this atmosphere a real challenge. After throwing another lifeless grassbeast away from where she was she lowered her head as she erupted in a fit of coughing. But she didn't take her eyes off of the seemingly endless sea of them as they spilled out from the smog, jaws snapping, and green eyes glowing. Her pale coat was now littered with scratches, minor yet, nothing too serious, for most of the blood that stained her body was not her own. But the scent of it was making her sick.
Unfortunately she didn't have much time to recover as a fairly larger grassbeast lunged for her, jaws missing her throat by only a few inches and instead bore into the crest of her neck. Io desperately tried to pull it off, but the more she tried the harder its fangs sunk into her skin. Her panic began to appear more visible as she desperately made another attempt to shake the mangy beast off. Suddenly a shout of alarm escaped her as she was nearly brought to the ground at the sudden weight the creature had applied. No! She couldn't be taken down or she'd be done for!
With a scream of anger she twisted her neck as far as she possibly could and reached for the grassbeast's face. The first clump of fur that touched her lips was the first place she bit down onto. Luckily this was enough to rip the thing off of her, but it had left her a pretty good sized bite wound. As Io slammed the creature as hard as she could to the ground she quickly ended its life with a swift stomp of her hooves. She took the time, in these brief moments of stillness between attacking grassbeasts to try and keep herself together. Already she was growing weary... but she was trying her best. I don't know how much longer I can keep this up. But she kept those thoughts quietly to herself as she stood there panting with effort.

KANU | STALLION | EXILE CAPTAIN
The dark stallion demolished, pulverized and punctured holes through Grass beast after Grass beast. His muscles rippled through his sweat and blood drenched coat, and his hooves kicked up generous amounts of dust as he reared, bucked, kicked and slashed at the carnivorous animals who dared lunge at the angered Captain. He was more than angered by this point, his was furious, irritated and determined to kill each and every one that lay an eye on him. So far he had actually managed well with keeping his uncontrollable side well restrained, violence was the main thing that triggered it, unleashed it, but so far he had been good- compared to what he usually was. It was something he had to learn to control, so that those closest to him didn't end up fearing him or losing faith in his ability to be normal, to act normal. After spending years trying to lasso it and tie it down, it had finally begun to listen to his wishes, respect his commands and simmer down when he needed it too most.
For now he could keep the stronger side, the one that allowed him to unmercifully kill these animals without so much as a blink, because that was the side that could potentially save he and his friends from imminent death. Afterward would be when he faced the guilt, the stabbing feeling in his side that made him want to drill a hole in the ground and die in it. There really was no option here that ended up having Kanu happily skipping into the sunset, so he simply had to endure every step of the emotional road he went on when engaging in physical combat for the good of those he loved.
Hearing Eyrin yelp, Kanu gave a quick glance to make sure he was ok, seeing that Effie was assisting him, he decided to do a quick head check in between Grassbeast's snapping at his throat. Storm was doing well, she was a strong fighter and Kanu knew that she too was a 'do now, think later' kind of mare, which served well for her in this situation- just as it did he. Eyrin and Effie were now travelling steady, though strain could still be seen on their expressions. Io seemed to be putting up the fight she needed to in order to win. "Everything's fine at this end." Kanu growled through gritted teeth, a devious smile on his face as he quickly turned and latched onto a Grassbeast's throat. He clamped down until his top and bottom teeth almost met through the canines flesh, blood waterfall-ed into his mouth, and with nowhere for it to go, Kanu was forced to swallow it. It tasted vile, but he endured as he threw the beast from his mouth. Suddenly, Io let out a cringe-worthy scream, and Kanu instantly snapped his head toward her. Io had been bitten, badly. At first Kanu attempted to see if she was well enough to go on, but after a while she looked to be growing weary, tired. Kanu worried for her now. He could feel her weight pressing on him slightly, and wondered how long she would last. "Io's hurt!" He called out- specifically to Storm, to see what she wanted to do about it. Io wouldn't last, they wouldn't last, something else had to be done. There were simply too many.

He had been about to kick the thing when someone else took care of the problem in his place. Eyrin tried nodding his thanks to Effie when she reached out plucked the grassbeast that had slipped through out from underneath him, effectivily ridding him of the little terror. Her smile and encouragement made him feel stronger and he smiled back, but it was short lived as one of the beast lached out to her and he cringed knowing he had been the one to distract her, making him responsable for her injury. She dealt with it quickly and Eyrin had to look back in front of him to keep his own offenders at bay. He was extra carefull not to let another one slip through.
Half an ear he kept on his companions, to keep up with what was going on and to hear if everyone was alright. Apperently Effie had the same idea, but decided to ask verbally. "I'm fine," he huffed, ignoring the sting in his leg where one of the creatures had bit him. He kept on crushing and kicking, the blood tinging his hooves making him feel neasous. He couldn't give up thoug, delivering an extra hard kick to one of the grassbeasts heads when he heard Io cry out and he had to do his best not to want to check up on her and keep his focus on the fight. He grew even more worried as he heard Kanu call that she was hurt, his mind turning towards herbs before realising the ground was barred in the place. Maybe further land inwards...if he could find- He had to let the thought go as two beast decided that strenght was in numbers and came at him at once. One was hit by his hoof, the other sunk it's teeth in his shoulder, making him turn his head and bite down to tear it off. A metalic taste entered his mouth and to his horror it dawned on him this was what blood tasted like. He wished he could forget it alltogether.

STORMCRY | EXILE MARE | GUARD
Air roared in her ears as she snapped her head swiftly to the side to sink her teeth into the scruff of a mangy creature as it flew, airborne, toward her face with a snarl. Hauling the yelping weight like a wrecking ball, she swung it strongly before letting it go, flinging it into the ground hard where it lay still, dazed, before fleeing with a whimper. She grit her teeth with frustration; this wasn't working. If each of them were trained guards, the outcome would have been different, but alas; this was what she had to work with, and she could not get angry at her companions as they tried their hardest despite lack of ability. Eyrin was struggling, and Io would definitely succumb soon after him. Effie was a bit better, grunts of determination from the tough mare reaching Stormcry's ears as she fought. Herself and Kanu, though panting slightly, were faring much better, though they could not hold out much longer. Grassbeasts continued to come with snapping jaws and eyes glaring hatred, and there seemed no end to their ranks despite the corpses that covered every inch of blood-soaked ground around their formation. We need an alternative, she thought desperately. Her mind raced, and in her absentminded-ness she earned herself a bleeding, torn wound across her brow from allowing a hell-bent canine too close. The blood dripped into her lashes, and her eye stung; only aggravated, she blinked it away best she could. Silver orbs searched the land for something, anything that could help them.
There! A small ravine opening the land like an ugly scar stretched across the land some distance away. It would be a struggle for some of the less athletic members of the group to clear, but it was certain that most, if not all, of the pack of beasts would fail to make it across. Any stragglers would easily be dealt with. While it was doubtful that the pack would simply give up, and would look for a way around the obstacle, it would at least allow the group a respite and a chance to come up with a better plan.
"Everyone! I will distract the beasts; you must run for the ravine, and leap across! This is not an option; you must! Kanu; look after them! I will make my way back to you once I think I have given you enough time! Be as quick as you can!" Her voice hissed throughout the group, audible but not so much that majority of the animals could hear her. They may be stupid, but if their alpha heard the plan it would be rendered useless. Not wasting another moment, another drop of her team's energy, she plunged away despite the fear that clamped itself like a razor-sharp claw into her chest. A taunting smile rose to her lips as she left the formation. "Oi! Dung-brains!" She hollered, voice booming. "You're making this too easy for me! Bet you couldn't catch me even if I was sleep walking!" Even if most of them didn't understand save the alpha, the disrespect, the challenge in her tone, was clear without words. Stormcry shot away with beasts nipping furiously at her heels, dread rising in her throat like a suffocating stone. Not even she knew if she would return from this alive but she must save the team that entrusted their lives to her. She must.

Efflorescence | Mare | Exile Guard
Effie Gave a grunt as she threw yet another beast to the floor, her sides were coated with a fine sheen of sweat and the mare looked weary now, she was holding up but what about those who weren't natural born fighters. They needed to escape and quickly, She grimaced as she heard Io was hurt. Give us a break she silently prayed, as another beast sized her up. She gave a bellow and met the beast, half rearing and slamming it into the ground, she was growing bored of this fight they needed an escape.
She heard the shout from Stormcry. The ravine, would she make it? she was heavier than some of the others and not a natural born athlete, she would need a good run she surmised. She wanted to bellow after storm that she was a fool, that separating would surely mean death, she hid her true feelings fixing a stoic look "Come on then team one final push, lets not waste what storm is doing for us. Let's go." She was trying to be motivational but with Io's leg she was worried she took up the rear of the little band and watched the dogs chase Storm, her stomach flipped.
"Let's go, we need to make it over" She snorted and set off into a light canter, which turned into a furious gallop that ate up the space between her an the impending jump, she evened out her breathing and watched the approaching ravine appear before her, she steadying her pace, calculated and leapt over the ravine in form any show-jumper would have been proud of, she moved away from the edge and stood waiting for the others. She was quietly proud she'd made it over, she stood and tossed her head looking around the area for any other beasties that could appear on this side.

Io | Exile Mare | Scout __________________________________________________________________ Stormcry's decision had nearly made her heart stop. Her head was beginning to throb. The last thing her sunset gaze saw was the dull coated mare breaking off from their formation and head off away from them. Did it really have to have come to this? Io could feel tears welling in her eyes, but she held them back. Be safe Stormcry, please be safe. She silently prayed before she followed after Effie. The pain from the bite wound at the crest of her neck was still bleeding, and her blood trickled in a pattern along her spotted coat. Each movement she made caused nearly every scratch along her body to sting, and as she started off toward the ravine she lost her balance, skidding to the ground rather roughly, dirtying up her blood-stained coat more than it already was. Io took a deep breath, a gasp, before she forced herself onto her feet as quickly as she could before picking up her pace. She needed to make it across that ravine. Stormcry's sacrifice wouldn't be in vain.
She broke into a gallop, her hooves thundering against the ashen ground. She kept her eyes focused on the ravine. She was agile, the jumped shouldn't be too much of a problem. Perhaps this time her long legs would come in use. As she neared the edge she pushed herself across. Her landing unfortunately wasn't as graceful as she had anticipated.
Io skipped for a few feet after she had landed on the other side. She closed an eye as she hissed under her breath. Every step now seemed painful to her. But she focused her attention on the last two who needed to make it across. She looked to Effie before looking for Eyrin and Kanu. "Eyrin! Kanu!" She called out to them, her voice sounding a bit hoarse. "You can do it!"

KANU | STALLION | EXILE CAPTAIN
To Kanu's relief, Storm looked to be thinking of a plan other than holding up this fortress of flesh and prey, which obviously wasn't working. He kept a close eye on Io, who was now bleeding heavily, attracting more of the flesh-crazed beasts. Their noses followed only the scent of a new wound, giving them hints as to who would be weak enough to pick off. Unfortunately that was now Io. Kanu had no plans on letting her get hurt however and until Storm had decided what was to be done, Kanu would have the small mare's back, fighting off any Grass Beast that seemed to big for Io to handle. So far he'd only gained scratches and bruises, his skin thick and adept at fighting for long periods of time.
As Storm spoke of her newfound plan, Kanu's eyes widened in horror. She couldn’t possibly be thinking she'd make this. Of course Kanu had faith that she would- she was nimble and agile- but there were just so many of them. They seemed desperate at this point to bring the group of Exiles down, perhaps now for revenge, not only a meal. Many of their fallen soldiers lay limp beneath the horses hooves and Kanu knew that this plan was almost a death wish. Though so was the current one. Either way someone had to take one for the team, it just so happened that, that one was Storm. Kanu knew he wouldn't be able to stop her, so he simply nodded, worry pricking at his stomach like a blow fly. Of course, at her immature insults he had to flash a smile, she was always ungraceful in her ways of verbal torture.
Kanu turned, breaking formation and quickly checking over everyone to make sure they were ready, before Kanu could ensure that they all travelled together- which would have been the safest option- Effie took off, heading for the ravine without hesitation. Kanu chuffed, pushing forward. Io began after Effie, and Kanu had no choice but to follow suit. He needed to make sure they all got safely across. He didn't take off, unlike Io and Effie, but he did make sure Eyrin and Gauis were fully capable of doing this and able to keep up with the Captain's long strides.
Kanu kept his eyes on the parting in the earth, keeping an ear on the two stallions next to him to ensure that nothing happened to them. The majority of the grass beasts had chased after Storm, but a few stragglers were on Kanu's heels. Just before one of them had the chance to jump upon Kanu's withers, he jumped, his hooves leaving the ground for what felt like an eternity. He looked down, seeing the earth move slowly beneath him before it was finally time to land. He did without fault, flicking his forelock out of his eyes. "Effie, Io, don't just run off like that, we know well enough that it's safety in numbers, anything could have happened to you, especially with your wound Io. I know you were thinking right, so I won't hold it over you, but please don't run off again." Kanu said, panting slightly. You could see worry clear in his eyes, Storm, his sister, his best friend, was on her own god knows where, being pursued by hundreds of those gastly canines. He couldn't bare to think of the worst, but somehow the worst managed to seep into his brain anyway. This probably wasn't the best mission to send Kanu on, his brain, his seizures were triggered by guilt, and right now that's all he could feel besides the numbing silence known as worry that pressed down on his lungs.
