Vasska | King | Olde Herd
Vasska stamped his hooves in the dirt. The shadows of the forbidden forest towering over him and the horses around him. No horse he knew had dared to step foot in their dark depths as it was known that cougars, and even quiver-backs might live in there. The thought was terrifying - and with how things were going now he couldn't be more scared for himself and his herd. They had arrived at the scene only 24 hours prior, looking for supplies - something they could use to one up the Bachelors when the next battle came. What they had found instead was a disaster. The forbidden forest had always been terrifying, but it had grown into a monster. Stray vines seemed to crawl wherever there was room, bright red and purple flowers growing off their sickly green tendrils. They pulsed with the dark spirit of the forest. Vasska was sure that this was the unicorns meant to curse them - upset that they had fought along exiles, angered that they had not defeated the bachelors - outraged that the Olde herd had crossed a land bridge for a reason other than life or death. He peered into the darkness of the wood cautiously, wondering what it was they might find if they entered its domain.
"Eden!" he called, looking at the young but talented Healer mage, "Tem!" he called knowing, that for one reason or another the little horse was always around. "Could you two gather everyone else... I feel we should start our investigation soon or we risk these vines growing over any path that we might make into the forest." He shook a stray petal off his nose, his tail swishing back and forth anxiously in the growing dark of the afternoon. The king sighed. The night was going to be a long one.

"Yep. Unicorns hate us." Eden muttered under his breath. The buckskin stood regarding the coiling plant life, pulsating with a dark, sickly magic. Normal magic alone made him twitchy; he didn't like the idea that there were horses out there that could burn a guy's face off just by thinking about it. The dark and sickly variety was probably worse, and that put it high on his list of things he'd like to avoid, right between cougars and Eiru.
Just as he was beginning to wonder if it was too late to feign a sore hoof, Vasska had called his name in that sharp, scary voice of his. Eden snapped to attention and turned a seafoam gaze towards his king, all thoughts of bailing extinguished. "Alright -- yes sire." He corrected, and spun to face the rest of their team. His eyes landed on Ciel first, because he sort-of-kind-of knew the miniature healer and despite his stature, he was rather hard to miss. Eden suspected it was the talking. Ciel did a lot of talking. So much talking.
"Ceil, get over here." He called, stomping a streaked hoof for emphasis. "Time to hit the trail. And you too, uh... Tamarie?" He squinted as his gaze shifted to Tamera, who he thought might be a knight or maybe a defender mage. He wasn't entirely sure, but she looked like she could beat him in a fight, and that was all that really mattered where the healer was concerned. Mental note: do not mouth off to Tamarie. "You too, come over here. Ma'am."

Tamera|Knight
"We are actually here...huh I would think it had look even more disturbing then it was before just great." Tamera mumbled to herself as she was a bit distant from the team, often the mare would always be near Vasska but due to last time she hasn't really fully recovered. The plants life were all to either grown to different sizes while some vines start to flicker as if it has a life of its own. Upon the speculation of Vasska thinking that this was the sign that the Unicorn was cursing the herd was an interesting theory. Its not as if she doesn't believe it, its just it would just be more problematic if their are Unicorns, who knows how they are like when they see the team if they stumbled upon them in the forest.
Tamera herd Vasska voice which caused her to snapped out of her train of thought, upon hearing clearly he wasn't calling her he was calling for Tem and Eden instead. As the mare was about to walk a further ways opposite of the team she heard Eden's voice speaking towards her. "Coming, I 'll be right ov-" At first she replied nonchalantly until a cord strike with her. "DID YOU JUST CALL ME TAMARIE?" She asked , well more like she yelled at the stallion in a surprised manner that would defiantly be mistaken for anger. She never heard someone else called her Tamarie before they nick named her Tam yeah but never something so odd as this name? She blinked at him a few times, not begin angry just more confused then anything else. "Eden, my name is Tamaera not Tamarie...you can call me Tam for short if its to long." She mumbled the last part as she didn't make eye contact with the stallion.

Did those scary plants move? Tem stood transfixed, looking at the ghastly looking plantlife and their otherworldly colours. He'd never seen anything like them - not that he'd spent much time looking at plants, but still! - and there was something ominous about them. They made his skin shiver and his ears flatten. Nothing good would come of this, he was sure.
"Tem," a familiar voice called. The small stallion turned immediately. Oh, but his king was talking to him! What had he been thinking, wasting time pondering murderous, venomous-looking plants and their potential for danger? Tem grinned, ears perking as Vasska continued. "Could you two gather everyone else... I feel we should start our investigation soon or we risk these vines growing over any path that we might make into the forest."
"Of course, sir!" he squeaked, turning around immediately in search of his new companions. Some of them he didn't know very well, but he certainly knew Ciel and had heard of Tamera before. Had they talked? Maybe they had. She certainly wasn't a mare to miss. He paused, looking at the empty grass in front of him. Right, he'd turned the wrong way. Sheepishly, he moved back the way he'd been facing earlier and meant to speak out - in a grand, booming, impressive voice, of course - when he was interrupted.
"Ceil, get over here. Time to hit the trail. And you too, uh... Tamarie? You too, come over here. Ma'am."
Tem frowned. Wait, he was going to call out names and take charge. He was great at taking charge. Okay, the last time he'd taken charge he'd ended up leading his fellow foals into a bog, but that had been years ago and he'd grown. Maybe not much in stature, but certainly in maturity!
"What..." he started, "What he said! I firmly stand behind his decision to, ehm, gather. Ourselves. Near the king. Which is...the impressive grey...stallion. Over there."
He glanced at Vasska awkwardly, then flicked his tail. Okay, he hadn't been very helpful there. He would impress all of them later, though! He'd do great. At something.
"Wait." Tem looked around. "This isn't all of us, right? I mean, I often overlook Ciel so it's understandable to occasionally miss someone, but wasn't there someone else? Something to do with...odd? Odd one? Odit? Oh, this is awkward..."
"We are actually here...huh I would think it had look even more disturbing then it was before."
Tem nodded firmly. "At least they'll probably grab you tall folk first. Maybe Ciel and I can squeeze through."
The bay stallion's eyes widened. "Not that I'd ever leave you, sire!" he hastened to add. "I'd defend you valiantly from whatever threat nature threw at me. I am a skillful warrior when it comes to weeds!"

"This...was not what I was expecting..." Odette thought, verging on the edge of hopelessly as she stared in shock at the sight before her. It was bad enough that they were all standing on the edge of the forbidden forest, which wasn't called 'forbidden' just because it sounded cool, but there was something most definitely wrong here. The red mare felt a shudder run down her spine at the sight of those vines, moving and slithering; it was honestly disturbing. When Vasska spoke she turned her head to look at him -- anything to force her eyes away from the forest before her.
When names were called she hung back, part of her hoping she'd be forgotten and she could avoid getting any closer to whatever gross things the unicorns had done to the forest to punish them. She quite nearly let out a groan when the short stallion seemed to remember she was there and called her over...well, sort of called her over; if someone wanted to count his pathetic attempts at remembering her name --and then butchering it so terribly she considered not even dignifying it with a response-- as calling her over. She contented herself with sighing and rolling her eyes as she walked forward, hissing "My name is Odette!" as she passed by him. She ended up standing next to the other mare, Tamera as she had found out a few moments previous, as at the current point in time Tamera was probably the only horse here that she might not end up wanting to kick. "I don't suppose we have a plan?" She asked after a moment, glancing around at the other's who had gathered; her gaze landing on Eden as it seemed the other had decided to take charge.

Ciel eyed the other equines in his vicinity, carefully picking out which ones he -should- act couth towards. But, as long as he was in such an environment, that wasn't going to happen. He continued scanning the crowd until his sky-blue optics landed upon a vaguely familiar figure- he'd seen all the others around the herd, of course, but this one gave him nostalgic stirring that he felt quite uncomfortable harboring. He stole quick glances at Tem, still trying to figure this puzzling and distant memory, but gave up after a few seconds to focus on the task at hand.
"Ceil, get over here. Time to hit the trail. And you too, uh... Tamarie? You too, come over here. Ma'am."
Not even holding back the drawn-out, weary sigh he felt building up in his throat, he dragged his hooves against the pristine grass. The pony stallion strained his neck even farther vertically in order to view the peak of the Forbidden Forest. The name echoed around his skull, spurring thoughts on what he -can't- do if something decides to try and eat him- and that was fight. At least, he thought, I've go' myself some meat shields. Upon reaching his normal head-holding height his nose met with a bright red flower, inducing a rather large load of saliva. After taking a delectable whiff of the strange phenomenon, he chuckled mentally to himself- I think -I'll- be the one doin' all the eatin' 'ere. Without pondering it further, he took a large mouthful and swallowed it as fast as he could to avoid getting caught. After all, Vasska probably didn't want the others eating them because they held some sort of strange power. Right?
"At least they'll probably grab you tall folk first. Maybe Ciel and I can squeeze through."
The pony stallion spun round to the speaker. He felt a bit more daring than usual knowing that there was someone also dubbed 'small' in this rag-tag of a group. He tried his best to keep uncharacteristically quiet throughout the ordeal's beginning, although that was sure to fade soon. His stubby legs trotted over to Tem's side as he nodded energetically, blowing a forelock out of his eye as all his life was returned to him. He locked eyes with a seemingly expressionless Vasska, awaiting his approval. "Let's ge' on with it, then, before I change my mind-" he called to the King. He broke the eye contact quickly, though, and muttered under his breath, "-an' herd."

Vasska found that he didn't have much time to ponder their course of action as Eden and Tem called everyone to the forefront of the forbidden forest. It was as if It had been predetermined that all would follow him blindly - something he hadn't quite expected. His herd was ready for action, and for that he should be grateful. Still, as he watched them interact with quiet eyes a slight unease filled his stomach. The light heated mood they created should have been enlightening, but the king could only find it worrisome. A deep sigh left his lips, it was now or never he supposed. They'd either enter the forbidden forest now, or perhaps forever be afraid of the slither depths that had become of it.
" I suppose we-" he was cut off by the constant chatter of him comrades, and before he could speak it seemed they had formed a plan. Still, he wasn't sure if he should give up on his effort to maintain seriousness, or just be happy they were coming along. He had after all, chosen this as his elite team. Three healers, one prized and born with his gift, and the others surely catching up. Tamera was the best knight he knew. He had thought from the beginning that Odette would be the one they volunteered into the wilderness, as a follower who often strayed past the law. He had it all so carefully planned - and now two of his healers were volunteering their very lives to go in to the most dangerous territory of Olde.
"Yes... I suppose we'll just charge in then, After you tem... and ciel" His eyes widened at the very thought of what was happening in front of him. They are all going to die.

"Aha, uhm, wait a second. Should we just 'get on with it'?" Eden asked, thick brows furrowing with skepticism. He looked sidelong at Tem and Ciel, focusing particularly on the latter. He'd noticed when the pony had indulged in his ill-advised snack, and Eden had to wonder if the flower was already messing with his fellow healer's mind. Tem wasn't terribly bright, so his gusto for throwing himself headlong into danger wasn't surprising, but Ceil... he'd hoped he at least had some sense. Eden had plenty of sense, and his sense was telling him that maybe - just maybe - they should all put some thought into this endeavor, perhaps reconsider forging into
sickly
magical
possibly dangerous
probably dangerous
writhing vines brought by the wrath of the unicorns themselves, so help him Great Compromiser. But hey, that was just his humble opinion. He was but a humble healer mage.
His seafoam eyes shifted to Vasska as the king spoke. He was agreeing? By the horn, Eden was going to die and it was going to be the fault of- wait. There was a plan there in Vasska's words, Eden realized. Send the ones that were feeling suicidal in first, let them test the waters, and if they had any limbs ripped off, well, then they'd know not to follow them.
While Eden liked that idea better than going in first himself, he didn't much like it overall. His companions... his stupid, foolhardy but nonetheless beloved herdmates... were going to end up hurt. And therein lied another problem: Eden wasn't sure if he reluctantly agreed with the decision, or resented Vasska for it. A king ought to be the first one to put himself in danger for his subjects, but at the same time, if Vasska died, who in hell was going to lead? Certainly not any of the idiots surrounding him. And god, if Bloom inherited the throne, he might as well drown himself. The queen was good for looking pretty and not much else; sometimes Eden doubted there was anything between her ears but air. Yes, Taishen claimed otherwise, but Taishen was chasing tail and therefore not the most unbiased source of intel.
The healer mage shook his head, banishing the thoughts. More important matters were at hoof. "Majesty. Perhaps we should abandon this mission altogether. I can't imagine what supplies we'll secure with these... plants, having a mind of their own." He frowned. "Any herbs we find in there are probably tainted with the same magical influence that's making everything, ah, weird."

Tamera|Knight Her eyes movements steady onto their leader as she heard him let out a sigh before beginning to speak, but was then cut off as the rest of them chattered over his voice. “Are you feeling alright Sir?” she asked as she looked over to the grey stallion whom was their leader.
“Sir, I know that look, as much as I would like to agree with you with what you may be thinking, I don’t think all of us might die?” She whispered to Vasska ending it with almost a tone of a questioning. Sure with blindly rushing into the forest is like a suicide mission, but it was Tems idea and with the way he thought about Ciel was truly a comedic one if this wasn’t actually dangerous, then again it was…
“I see no harm in going if we are in numbers Eden.”Though she could understand what Eden mean from his question, the team might have been picked by Vasska and she is honored he picked her as well to go on this mission but with the way Tem and Ceils acting it was rather worrisome. Especially when she caught a glimpse of a red thing begin ingested by her herdmate Ciel as if he didn’t think anyone would see…
“With all due respect Eden as I hate to barge into the conversation, but that would put our efforts of getting her in vain is it not? They might have minds of their own true, and who knows what else though if we don’t explore now how will be know whats to come.” She frowned at Edens suggestion of abandoning the mission all together.
“tch, I was actually talking to myself Tem, and besides, isn’t it often the opposite of what you said? You might be lucky to squeeze through, but they do constrict by the looks of it.” She furrowed at the shorter stallion as she looked over to him then towards the lively vines.
The grullo mare tried to muffle her slight chuckled as Tem butchered poor Odette’s name. Somehow she was glad that Eden called her something that was at least still very close to her name better then what she had heard coming out of Tem’s mouth.
“Well, I suppose since most of us were just going charge into the forest so be it? Reckless but if you ask me its better then seeing them cowering in fear.” Tamera said in a chuckle due to the lively chatter the atmosphere seems to become less tense.
“Though I think it is wiser if we stick together once we enter then getting split up.” She with a serious tone now without a hint of joyous attitude she had a few seconds ago as she made eye contact with everyone.

Tem was standing side by side with Ciel now and it reminded him of the good old days. They'd had such great times when they were younger. He scowled, pushing down the urge to reminisce. He had no time! Great, sprawling vines were threatening to block their way - more importantly, Vasska's way! - and Tem was supposed to help do something about it so they could enter. Enter a scarily named forest with dark, deep paths and a history of questionable events. And death. Lots of death. The tiny stallion shuddered.
"My name is Odette!" the pretty mare he'd called for spoke as she passed him.
He tilted his head curiously. "Wasn't that what I said? I do apologize. I get distracted, you see. Dangerous forests and kings and the threat of death. I will now remember, though! Oh-dette, no problem!"
"I don't suppose we have a plan?" she spoke again.
Tem snorted. "I do enjoy the 'watch as problems solve themselves' method of planning." He glanced at Vasska. "Ehm, of course I meant to say that we should take charge and forge ahead in our valiant attempt to rid the world of evil?"
Having moved again, they were now even closer to the forest. Tem glanced at the bright flowers. They looked weird, like they'd jumped straight from his mother's old stories. The ones filled with unicorns and royalty and daring knights who saved the day. Tem wasn't a knight, of course, just a terrible healer mage, but maybe he could do something else heroic? Either way, the flowers themselves didn't seem real, but they didn't seem threatening either. Just...alluring. Too alluring.
"Do not, under any circumstance, eat those flowers," he hissed to Ciel. "I know you and you totally would. Remember that time with the bee hive? That was all on you! So do not."
The bee hive incident had involved way too much running and getting stung in unfortunate places. Tem still got chills when he thought about it. He'd been so young and innocent then, too!
Not far away, Vasska sighed. Tem's ears perked immediately and he scowled at Ciel. "Now look what you've done! You made Vasska sigh!"
"Yes... I suppose we'll just charge in then, After you tem... and ciel."
Tem nodded. "Indeed, after me and...wait. Wait, me and Ciel? We're going first?" The stallion paled. "Ah, yes, of course we are. We are...brave adventurers, after all. I will fulfill this quest with great haste, my king!"
Gingerly he stepped forward, dipping his head and moving underneath some of the hanging vines. They weren't too low here yet, so he quickened his pace. Maybe there wasn't anything bad in these woods. Maybe they'd all been tall tales to keep foals away from them. Yes, that must be it.
"This isn't so bad," he murmured, even though behind him the taller horses would probably find it a lot more difficult to follow. He paused, looking back at the rest. "It really is fine! Look, no bleeding limbs yet!"
He could just make out Eden's comment from where he was. "Majesty. Perhaps we should abandon this mission altogether. I can't imagine what supplies we'll secure with these... plants, having a mind of their own."
The bay stallion frowned. Give up? He would not!
He was just about to speak up about this great injustice when the black and white mare spoke to him. "You might be lucky to squeeze through, but they do constrict by the looks of it."
He laughed. "They seem to have a mind of their own. Maybe they'll go for the pretty ones first, who knows? I'll just duck and run."
His stealth would keep him safe, with a bit of luck.
“Though I think it is wiser if we stick together once we enter then getting split up.”
"Yes, indeed!" Less chance of him dying, at least. Maybe he could just nick his leg and then have to leave the forest. That was brave, wasn't it? Receiving battle scars while aiding his king? Tem liked that idea. Another scar was nothing to him.

Odette listened to the conversation taking place around her with growing concern. As it stood it seemed as though every single one of them had a different idea as to how they should go about this suicide mission into a dark --and obviously somehow cursed-- forest which was 'forbidden' on a good day; now it was more like a death trap. She couldn't help but let out a snort at Tamera's words. Well it was good to know the taller mare had at least enough confidence in them that she didn't think they'd all die. She glanced around then, brow furrowing as she noticed someone was missing, and her jaw dropped slightly as she realized the small stallion who had called her 'Odit' had gone ahead and marched right into the forest! She had already realized that he was rather lacking in the brain cell department, but honestly this was beyond her comprehension. He had just blindly followed what Vasska had told him to do...which she supposed was the law. Oh well, it was his funeral.
Her attention was brought back to the horses closer to her as the conversation continued. Odette had to agree with what Eden had said; they should just call it quits and go back home. That way nobody has to get hurt, or die in some terrible, magic-y way. But when Tamera spoke again, saying they could enter if they all stuck together, well, suddenly Odette didn't quite like the grulla so much anymore. After a moment of mentally battling with herself she let out a sigh to rival Vasska's and took a step forward, "Well, we're all going to die eventually; may as well get it out of the way." She said, not making eye contact with any one of them as she strode another few steps towards the forest before turning and looking back expectantly.

"Do not, under any circumstance, eat those flowers. I know you and you totally would. Remember that time with the bee hive? That was all on you! So do not."
The stallion almost choked on his tongue as these memories came writhing back into his mind; That was right! Tem was his foalhood friend. How could have forgotten?! Though it was too late to go by the bay's advice, the incident with the furious bees kept him on edge for the moment. "I' wasn' my fault I wan'ed to know wha' a bee hive tastes like..." He grunted, eyeing Tem's body just to make sure none of the stings had scarred him from all those years ago. Now he just felt plain sorry for the stallion. Shaking off the guilt, he glanced at Tamera- she was much taller than him, which put even more strain on his neck. Her words began to blur to his fur-filled ears, but the pony paid no heed.
"Now look what you've done! You made Vasska sigh!"
Ciel perked his ears up at this remark. It seemed Tem was more intent on pleasing Vasska than pleasing his own herd members. He felt all his emotions begin to get more intensive- and overreactive. He flattened his ears once again and whispered to Tem, bearing an irritated smirk; "I'll do a whole lo' more than make him sigh if he doesn' start actually leadin' us."
It was true; he wasn't sure if either he or Eden was the King. If this group was going to proceed any further, it'd need only one leader. At least, that's what he thought.
So Ciel volunteered himself.
He stood idle and watched as Tem disappeared into the overgrowth, his intentions on following the stallion put off until he had finished his declaration. He slowly but purposefully trotted to the very edge of the forest, locking eyes with all the members of his group. If he was going to attain leadership of this band, he'd need to gain their respect. And, compared to Vasska- the King- and Eden- the gift-born- that was going to be challenging. Nevertheless, he half-lidded his eyes and kept his cheeky smirk painted firmly on his face to give off a professional air. Looking upon all the faces around him, he began to pace.
"Alrigh', gang; Let's go into the puny li'l plant-home. Are y'all group of butt-tarts jus' gonna leave all the fun to me an' Tem, eh?! Think again! All o' you are much more stronger than this lot o' delici- ah, weak- plant bubs. Amirite?" At the end of his little self-inspiring speech, he gave a furrow of his brow, supposedly trying to intimidate the band. He immediately crawled in after Tem, staying close at the stallion's heels.
But, as he was climbing, he felt his stomach begin to bubble and twist; his vision was blocked by black flecks, and it seemed the world's contrast just upped a notch. Of course, being the carefree stallion he was, he dismissed these symptoms, and continued the menial task.

Vasska watched with less-than-patient eyes as his followers plunged into the forest with reckless abandon - he wasn't amused but he was far too distracted at a time like this to lead properly. He just wanted to get home as soon as possible to Bloom, so they could once again name their love to each other under the ever watchful grace of the unicorns at their alter in the city. After his queen's confession, he'd found everything to do with the war more or less frustration. He had other things to live for now, and didn't want to see his life wasted away on a bloodied battlefield.
However, he could sense the frustration of those that had volunteered themselves into the the darkness of the Forbidden forest. They needed their king to lead, but Vasska had only begun to show signs of being the King he was meant to be in the war. He was learning, but distractions in his life made it difficult to excel even in his birthright.
"Wait - " He cautioned, " Let me come with you. Unicorns know this could be a test, it could be a punishment. It could be a hint to what we need most. We don't know what caused the unicorns to bring such terrifying things upon us - but whatever we meet I'll be going with you all" He gave a pained nod to Eden, whom he agreed with. Perhaps this mission wasn't as planned as he'd originally thought.
"Tem, wait up!" he called out without any true emotion, before trudging into the darkness of the forest himself. His only wish was to find out what was wrong, and return home alive so he could return to bloom.
(ooc:// my apologies for a short and rather unamusing post. I had a rather upsetting day to day its hard to chug the muse out c: I didnt want to leave you guys without a post though - I absolutely can't WAIT to see what happens with the group and will be posting tomorrow night )
