"If it weren't you," Grange said, wading out of the water, "It would be someone else. Maybe a mare, maybe not. But you're not the problem. I can't trust someone who thinks its all right to give their heart to two horses at the same time." His expression was grim as he trotted towards the summer fields.

Greer whipped around, nearly hitting grange. Their faces nearly touched.
"Dont you dare Fairying say that grange. Cethin felt something for me i know that for sure he wouldnt just go to anyone. I mattered to him weather you like it or not." She said, her voice cracking again. She swallowed her emotions before turning around a galloping to the fields.

"No, it wasn't," he whispered, after she had galloped off. "None of us mean anything to him, really. Not me, not you." Sighing, the stallion turned and plodded slowly towards his nest, leaving training for the next morning.
Grange curled into his nest of grass, sighing heavily. Each morning, he woke up wishing this would all go away. He pondered asking Cain for a different sparring partner, but he knew that would only grant him ridicule. If he was going to fight in this war, he was going to have to deal with Greer long enough to make the cut.

Greer was at the field bright and early. She watched Grange aproach, and put on todays mask. An expression of easy going mango with a hint of competitive spirit.
"How about we start using those moves huh?" She asked, before darting toward him. She did the move where she would dart to one side then the other only to grab his gullet in between his teeth while his head was in the air in a desperate attempt to spot her.

Grange held a similar mask; he was all business now, and ready to start training for the upcoming war. As Greer wove around him, he tucked his head to his chest, protecting his neck while still being able to use his wide range vision to see the mare as he twisted his body to keep up with her, blocking her movements.

Grange had just given her the perfect opening. She smirked before bounding onto her back hooves and grabbing his crest, tugging him backward, causing him to collapse into the dirt with a loud, earth shaking thud. Then, she reared up, her hooves landing right next to his vulnerable skull. If this were a real battle, she would have already killed him.

Grange brought himself to a standing position, shaking off his mane and tail. Suddenly, he reared up, acting as though he were going to attack from above. While an enemy would be expecting him to crash down with his front hooves, he ducked suddenly and bit Greer's kneecap in such a way that the leg was forced to give out. With a grunt, he rolled forward, shoving his shoulder into hers and knocking the mare off balance. As he stood over her, he gently pressed a hoof to her throat. "We're even now," he said, moving back so she could get up.

Greer smiled, nodding with approval.
"Well done, but would you be prepared for anything such as this?" She asked, standing still for a good minute. It was yet another act of confusion. Her hooves pounced on him with lightning fast movements, scratching down his shoulder, but not hard enough to dig in and cut him open like a fish. She grabbed the bridge of his nose, jerking backward, but not hard enough to actually snap his neck. Her teeth left small, temporary indentations on his nose.

He nodded in approval, taking in the mare with an appraising look. "You move fast," he said, complimenting the mare quietly. "But what about this," he said, lunging forward. He grasped her crest in his teeth, careful not to tear her mane this time, and pulled her down, pinning her with a foreleg. If he were to bite down, the pain would distract her enough that he could grab her jugular and snap it in half.

"Oh not fair you didnt tell me about that one." She said, laughing as she stumbled to her hooves. "Secret keeper." She mumbled happily.
Now, she circled him very fast, her hooves blurring beneath her. Then, she cut in when she was near his chest, her momentum sending him sliding. His balance was thrown off and she took the oppurtunity to press a sharp hoof against his chest, putting just a tad of pressure on it.
"I could have used much more strength to dig in and disable you." She said, smiling. She still had her own secrets.

"You're sneaky," Grange said, actually beginning to enjoy himself a little. The less he and this mare talked about what else was going on, the more he wanted to practice sparring. With a sudden twist of his body, he grasped her short tail, giving it a small yank. If he were to tug harder, he could stop her midstride, not to mention bring an enormous amount of pain to the roots of her tail.

Greer squealed, whealing around to take a chunk off of Grange. Then, she remembered it was only sparring, so she took hold of his nose, and pulled, not tightly, just firmly. She could have easily ripped off his upper lip with a sharp tug of her incisors.

Grange stepped back, regarding her sternly. He wasn't going to get lured into another fight now; he'd already lost enough body parts over this, and he wasn't apt to lose more. "The enemy is the Olde herd, remember," he chided, shaking his mane to shoo away a couple of flies that were buzzing around, drawn by the horses' sweat and the occasional drops of blood spilled by sparring partners across the field.

Greer panted. "I know i wasnt trying to hurt you if i did. My tails just sensitive...a couple of grass beasts tore it off and its still a bit sore." She said sadly, remembering the long ebony locks that trailed the ground.

Grange hissed in sympathy. "Try to toughen that up," he said, flicking his own short, curly tail. "It's a liability if you can be injured that way. But the shorter your tail is, the better, actually. Because enemies would have to get within kicking range to grab it." He paused, blinking slowly as he thought. "Put some herbs on it to help the soreness. It'll do better that way in battle," he informed her.
