Bale
Bale had wondered a bit further from the herd, over a couple low hills and through a grove of trees. There, partly hidden by a ridge in the field, was a wild apple tree. Bale had come by it on a coincidence and decided to taste one of the red, ripe apples on the ground. It was rare to find such a treat; the apple tasted very sweet, though just a little pointy side kick. What the stallion did not realize was that very ripe apples like these actually had alcohol in them due to fermentation. He did not settle for just one apple, he actually ate a whole bunch. It gave him a warm, a bit flustered feeling. He found it hard to think about serious and bothering things, instead his muscles were relaxed and he was feeling rather cheery, which was quite the contrast to his ordinary self.
When he reached for another apple and found his cordination was off and almost stumbled, he finally stopped and considered this strange feeling for a little bit. He wasn't too worried about it, but decided that was enough apples. He reached to grasp a couple of bites of the grass here and there, leaning his hip into the tree. His track of thought wasn't very clear, but he sure was happy that he wasn't currently under the supervision of his higher ups.

Miles - Infantry
The blue roan wandered away from the herd, content that he wasn't needed. When the other two groups finally convened with the broods he had been watching over with Apollo, there was much to discuss amongst each other. Everyone wanted to know what had happened to the other groups and eventually everyone heard the tales. The group that went to the mountains had come back mostly unscathed, though Miles had noticed marks around certain horse's legs that made him to believe they either wandered through though terrain or something binned them together. The thought was unsettling, but he didn't ponder too much on it. It wasn't really his business what Cain did with stallions. The other group returned with an injured Elowen, who had promptly been carted off to Cain by Bat Sheva. Her injury didn't seem to have been brought upon one of the brute stallions that she had returned with, so once again Miles paid no mind. That left his ragged group. Everyone was tired, but it seemed they all survived the grass beast attack. Even Robin, who had some nasty injuries managed to give birth to a fine foal only a day after they made it to the fields.
Now, Miles was looking for a place to just relax. He was tired of feeling on edge all the time, and he remembered his mother mentioning a special tree in the summer fields. Her voice seemed to echo in his ears as he recalled it. 'There's a tree that bears special fruit in the summer fields. It can be a good relaxant but don't eat too many or you'll go into a stupor. The next day will not be fun.' He wondered why she knew about this tree, but he was bound to find out now.
The small stallion finally reached the arch of the ridge that hid this tree and noticed someone was already there. He tilted his head, focusing on the other horse before recognizing the silver hair and white patches on the horse. It was one of the fellow infantry stallions, Bale. Miles never talked to him much, but decided this was a good opportunity. Miles walked down the ridge, making his presence known by walking on dead grass that crunched under his hooves. Once he was closer, he let out a soft snort in greeting.
"I hope I'm not disturbing you," he started, his ears perked forward and a light-hearted expression on his face. That was when he noticed Bale had been leaning against the tree, and his eyes seemed a little glassy. Miles looked up a the tree, wondering how many apples the older stallion had. Was this the stupor his mother warned him about?

Bale
The sooty palomino was a bit slow in the reflexes, turning to look at the other stallion with just a slight delay. It was not too bad, he still had his motoric skills, everything was just a bit fuzzy and wobbly. Bale wasn't accustomed to feeling this way, so it gelt a bit difficult to handle. His mind was still fairly bright, his body just was slower than normal in responses. His eyes took a little bit to focus, but when they did Bale realized he knew this fella. Not very well, but they shared their rank so obviously they had been around each other. Bale's brown eyes were reading Miles' bodylanguage, he seemed friendly.
Very unlike his usual self, Bale grinned back at Miles. "Not at all, not at all", he responded, laughing. He was feeling good and relaxed. The warm fuzziness had spread from his stomach to the rest of his body, giving him a light, almost weightless feeling. Everything didn't seem so serious all of the sudden. Bale felt like a young stallion, instead of 30-something stiff-and-stuck-in-his-ways one.
"What brings you here?" he asked, cocking his head just slighly. He stared at Miles intently, like this answer he was about to give would be the most important and meaningful ever.

Miles - Infantry
'Not at all, not at all.'
Miles gave Bale a small grin after hearing the other stallion, nodding slightly. It was nice to be greeted in the same manner, and not with an annoyed snort or glare that Miles was accustomed to getting from the more brutish stallions of the herd. He focused on Bale as the older stallion asked him a question and gave a small laugh.
"I guess the same reason you're here?" he started, walking closer to the tree itself. "Need some peace and quiet, plus those apples are supposed to help with relaxing the body. Getting attacked by grass beasts really does a number on you." Miles let out another small laugh, feeling a bit more comfortable around Bale now, and reared up to grab the nearest apple. As his teeth grabbed the apple, he noticed that it was softer than normal, most likely aided by the fermentation process these apples seemed to have gone through, and it was easy to pull from the branch. Landing back on all fours, Miles crunched into the apple, tasting the sweetness. It was almost too sweet! He seemed to have bit the apple in half, the other part dropping to the ground. As he reached down to grab it, it seemed he was more susceptible to the alcohol in these apples and suddenly felt light-headed.
That was weird...but in a good way. He could already feel his muscles relax, and he was suddenly in a better mood. He munched up the second half of the apple and returned his attention to Bale. "How many have you had so far?" he asked, tilting his head.

Bale
This Miles-character seemed easy-going, which fit Bale's mood just fine. Had a more aggressive horse happened upon him, the result could have been much uglier. But as it was, Bale was pretty happy about this turn of the events.
Bale simply nodded to Miles' words, recent times had been chaotic. Surely this time was just calm before the bigger storm, but that just made it all the more important to relax a little bit and unwind. Whenever times were critical, tensions would arise and even those continuous little scuffles and debates within the herd would start to be exhausting. Yes, now was the time to gather strenght towards the bigger war.
Brown eyes watched as the other stallion worked to get an apple to himself, with a bit of a lopsided smile on Bale's face. They were so devilishly good and moist those apples, yet they had an almost immediate effect. Bale responded to miles with a bit of a guilty, boyish grin.
"Oh, I don't know... I didn't count. 4 maybe?" he replied with laughter in his voice. Could have been 10 for all he knew. He stood more upright and then jammed his bum more forcefully to the tree, having some apples fall to the ground. "So that means you're a little bit behind", Bale grinned.

Miles - Infantry
Miles blinked at the amount Bale mentioned. Four, huh? For having four, Bale seemed to be doing okay, so Miles assumed that it'd be safe to enjoy a few more of the sweet apples. His mother's warning faded from his mind as Bale bummed the tree, more apples falling from the branches above.
"So that means you're a little bit behind."
"I guess so, but that means that I'll have to catch up!" he said, grinning back. Miles decided to snap up one of the ones that fell, it's sweetness filling his mouth again. It was nice, having these soft apples to distract him from his worries. His body was feeling a little warmer as the effects started to become more prominent. His head started to feel lighter, and the world kind of looked funny. Was it tilting? Miles blinked, trying to clear his sight, and noticed the world shifting to the other side. Even Bale seemed to be slightly defying gravity and it was kind of amusing. He let out a tiny laugh at the sight, his tail twitching.
This was kind of fun.

Bale
Bale watched as Miles ate another apple and smiled when he seemed to have slight difficulties keeping his balance. A little relaxtaion was always good, too much was another story of course. But those apples were so juicy and sweet... Unlike anything else, the grass was already dying and not as lush as in the summer and all the flowers were gone as well. Bale couldn't resist taking another bite, but this time he didn't munch up the whole apple immediately.
A fleeting thought passed by in his mind, wondering how much would the apples affect Miles, since he was smaller? Almost two entire hands smaller, actually. When Miles was focused on his apple, Bale took a rare liberty to let his eyes inspect his fellow herdmate more closely, from his striped hooves to the tip of his black tail, counting up the scars and wondering if there was something special behind them, or if they were just random like most Bale's scars. Bale rarely was courageous to fairly openly check out stallions, much like most stallions looked at broods. But even though his brain was a bit slurred and thoughts came and went much more freely, he still kept some distance and was careful to not raise any suspicions.
While Bale had seen many horses being openly gay, he could simply never do it. He was so afraid of his own feelings he was to the point of being homophobic and he was neurotic of even his errand thoughts. One could say Bale was an idealist, and his idea of a great Bachelor simply wouldn't allow for this type of behaviour. Probably had a lot to do with the inviduals he had grown up with. He interrupted his thoughts by taking another bite of the apple he had already started on.
"Yes, I suppose there is no other option", Bale replied with a wicked smile. The part of his mind that still wanted to keep its dignity and reasoning tried to tell him to stop and have his herd member stop as well. Bale had listened to that little voice his entire life and decided for once act against it, if even just a little bit. It was not like he was doing anything THAT radical.

Miles - Infantry
The tilting seemed to slow, and Miles suddenly was able to focus again, which was relieving to the stallion. He didn't know how he'd react if the world suddenly went upside down. The urge to have another apple hit him and he wasn't too sure, eyeing one with caution now. Bale seemed to be doing alright, probably just as giddy as he was, but Miles wasn't sure if the world was spinning for the other yet or not. Maybe the two of them had different reactions to eating these things? Miles gave in, biting into another apple as he noticed Bale staring.
Miles wasn't uncomfortable, even with the influence of these apples, though this was an uncommon thing for him. He was used to being sized up by the bigger stallions, looking for any of his weaknesses and if he had any strengths. He wasn't getting that from Bale though, which was a pleasant thing to think about. He didn't understand that Bale might've been looking at him for more than just conversation, but then again he wouldn't have minded it either if he had. Miles' own interests went past things such as physical beauty. He was more interested in someone's thoughts, dreams, goals, beliefs, and if they were agreeable he'd see a compatibility with the other horse. Like Casper, for example. She was scarred, not Bachelor born, and had thoughts of coexisting peacefully with even the brutish stallions of the herd. It was her ideologies that attracted Miles to the young mare, and now he was planning on even becoming mates with the mare. Just thinking of his hopeful mate brought a shade of pink to his face, and he finished off the apple he had been working on.
"So...what do you think of everything that's happening right now? Do you think the Olde herd would really try to attack us?" he asked, finding himself loosening up.

Bale could see a slight blush on Mile's face and quickly turned away. He couldn't have known if it was something the other was thinking or because Bale had been staring, but he decided to play it safe anyway. He shook his head, his vision blurring a bit on the edges. Hmm, maybe this was enough apples. He did turn a lot more serious when he registered Miles' question.
"I think it would be stupid to underestimate the Olde. They may be stuck-in-their-ways unicorn-fanatics, but they could turn out strong. I don't know, a lot of Bachelors need to get their butts into gear and start respecting Cain", he said. It was a topic he was very serious about. He heavily disliked that many had struggled with accepting the new leader. Bale, too, had been loyal to the old one but it wasn't his place to disrespect the new leader.
"It's not a common herd member's right to doubt the King", he added, with more of a muttering voice. "I hope you're not one of the doubters."

Miles - Infantry
Bale suddenly grew serious, and Miles could understand why. It was a touchy subject in the herd. Some still clung to the idea that Klaus was going to come back, chase Cain out and return to his position as their leader. Others were happy with the change and their loyalty to the new leader happened almost instantly. For Miles, he wasn't sure where he stood. Klaus was a respectable leader, yes, but was it lack of confidence that eventually made him leave? He still wasn't too sure about Cain and his agenda, but the herd needed a leader or else it would have fallen into chaos. For Bale, it seemed he was on the side of those loyal to the new leader. Miles respected that, seeing as he was still in the grey area.
"I don't doubt him. He is a strong stallion and he seems to be doing a good job of keeping the herd together, which is a challenge. It's good to see how passionate you are, though. I highly respect that." Miles decided to nip at the grass surrounding the tree, his stomach now becoming unsettled with the fermented fruit. He decided it was best to slow down and maybe put something else in his system that might make him feel better.
"As for the Olde, and seeing them first hand a few months back, I do agree that they are not to be underestimated. I just feel like the conflict wouldn't have happened if..." he trailed off, his expression growing dim. His ears went back slightly as he remembered the encounter. The guilt started to creep in and he shook his head. It was going to happen whether or not he had been the first horse on the land bridge, at least once the group had stopped arguing with one another. He took a breath, trying to calm himself. Miles decided another apple would have to do and grabbed one from a low branch, letting it's sweetness take over.
"I apologize...I probably am making bad company."

Bale listened very carefully. While he was feeling soft and fuzzy due to the fermented apples, he doubted he could really never be fully dulled down. He was always so acutely awake it was even tiring. He was like a neurotic sheepdog, trying to keep the roaring herd in check even though it wasn't really, exactly, his duty. He simply nodded to Miles' first words. At least the smaller stallion wasn't openly against their leader. If he had been, Bale didn't know what he'd done. With his intoxicated state, he might have been fairly... insisting.
"No, not at all. The war has been brewing for so long I don't think any one instance was the onset alone", Bale said, somewhat quietly. It was true. They were destined to fight, and he trusted Cain to lead them over it. Stupid, overly sure-of-themselves smirks were not seen around the herd as much now, though some still were convinced that Bachelors were completely unbeatable. Come hell or high water, he thought that with smart planning they were at least on their way to victory.
"It's no use to dwell in the past. What matters is staying strong now...", Bale then spoke. "But it's sure nice to relax from time to time."
He walked a few steps to a more dirt-covered area, let his knees buckle and had a good, refreshing roll. He scratched his back nicely, turned from one side to side and then raising to a more sit-like position, not getting fully just yet.
"That was good", he said with a grin.

Miles - Infantry
Miles' ears twitched over to Bale as the older stallion spoke, some feeling of relief washing over him. That's right, this war was not the result of one incident, and it seemed both sides were at fault.
'It's no use to dwell in the past. What matters is staying strong now...'
The blue roan couldn't help but nod at that statement. The herd was strong, and it could clearly be seen with stallions sparring against one another, or horses training with one another. As long as everyone's moral kept up and no one slacked, this "war" would be no problem for their herd. Miles quietly mused that maybe he should start thinking of joining some of his fellow infantry stallions in a training session, but he was sure no one would even want to. He was small, and only recently had he put some muscle on. There was use for him, he knew that, even if it was protecting the mares.
Bale suddenly dropped to the ground and started to roll, pulling Miles from his thoughts. He watched the other stallion, shaking his mane out as some of the dust from Bale's rolling floated towards him.
"Looks like it," he said, grinning back, before looking thoughtful. "Curious, what do you plan on doing after this war? Anyone you might want to settle down with?" Miles wasn't the one to pry, though currently, the apples seemed to make him a little bit more talkative than normal.
