(Note this RP takes place a few weeks before the Loners set out from the Great Pine. Year 401 in the early spring. This RP is between Gingergoddess's Ghost and my Enigma.)
It was a full mooned night; the stars seemed to shine even brighter than they had in months. The woods were silent and even the small bugs and nocturnal creatures were quiet, this was a perfect night for predators and hunters.
Enigma:
Enigma was moving through the night, the soft sounds of his bits of metal jingling and tinkling with each soft step. Enigma’s ears were twitching and twisting; scanning for the softest sound on this beautiful night. His hooves made a soft thump as he moved through the knee high grasses and soft mosses. As Enigma moved around a fallen and rotting log that had overgrown with mosses and mushrooms that seemed to thrive on dead things, an explosion of wings made him jump backwards with a start. A flock of starlings took flight and flitted through the night sky after being so rudely awoken from there slumber. Enigma let out a loud chuckle as he tossed his head at being afraid of something so silly as a flock of starlings.

[Ghost]
The old stallion plodded through the forest, quietly contemplating the events of the past week. First, Klaus had up and disappeared, leaving the Bachelors leaderless. Then Cain, a stranger to the herd, came along, insisting he was Klaus’s successor. Ghost didn’t like it one bit, and he didn’t trust this new “leader” at all. Not knowing what else to do, the appaloosa continued walking deeper into the woods, each footfall heavy with the weight of his thoughts. What was Cain's goal? He was manipulative and clever, that much Ghost had been able to put together, but for the life of him, he couldn't wrap his head around why Cain was there in the first place.
The appaloosa halted, swiveling his ears quickly as a flock of birds took to the sky. That’s odd… he thought to himself, gingerly moving towards the flurry of feathers. Something must have startled them for them to take off like that this late at night, and Ghost intended to find out what it was.

Enigma: Enigma stood there for a moment letting his heart slow down and get out of his throat. Once his breathing had settled, Enigma once again got on his way towards his next big story or question or message or whatever the next horse wanted to talk about. The cool dew was starting to settle nightly on the grass which was quickly getting his hooves fetlock feathers and cannon’s soaked thoroughly. Moving slower and stepping higher trying to avoid the next flock of unseen birds, Enigma set his sights on the edge of the forest at least in there he would not get nearly as wet from the dew and maybe he could find someone else who was thinking the same thing. Enigma must have looked quite the sight as his glistening, striped hooves powered him through the grass meadow. The moon shinning and shimmering through his mane and soaked tail, and reflecting off of the strips of white fur haphazardly splotched across his body. Enigma kept swaying his head slightly compensating for his poor eyesight out of his left eye. His ears also were, once again rotating around like radar dishes.

[Ghost]
Ghost continued his trek along the beaten path, the silver light dancing across his pale, spotted coat. Nearing the old clearing, the stallion saw something move in the shadows. Slowing to a halt, he listened intently as the sound of clinking metal greeted his waiting ears. Willing himself to blend unseen into his surroundings, Ghost crept forward, careful not to make his presence known. The old appy could just barely make out the silver lined figure of another horse, making it’s way towards him. A loner, perhaps, or maybe a wayward Exile? Possibly even one of his own herd out wandering astray? Ghost waited quietly, watching as the stranger approached, planning his course of action.

Enigma: Enigma was making his way towards the wood line in pretty much a straight line. the tall grass fully soaking his lower legs and making soft swishing sounds as he moved. The chiming and tinking of the metal pieces in his mane made noises as he moved. The chimera painted stallion made his way towards the woods and the semi-shelter they provided. He moved at a comfortable pace as he entered the woods, not too fast as his night vision was affected by his messed up eye the same way his daytime vision was. He could see fine on the right side of his broad head but anything on the left was blotches of color. Enigma was watching where he was going this time as he entered the wood line and started threading between the sparse trees, his ears rotating around his head as was normal. As Enigma was stepping around a pine tree he thought he heard the sound of another large animal breathing softly, Enigma froze as he prepared to fight or run, you never knew what was waiting to attack the unprepared. His ears scanned the surrounding area as he swayed his head back and forth attempting to locate the breathing.

[Ghost]
The silver appaloosa stepped out of the shadows and into the pale moonlight, making sure he was fully visible to the tri-colored stranger. Standing tall with his head high and shoulder's squared, Ghost called out to the horse. "Who are you and what are you doing here?" He boomed, his voice loud and commanding, only adding to his imposing stature."This is Bachelor territory. We don't look kindly on strangers trespassing like this, especially at this time of night." Narrowing his eyes, the Elite glared at the intruder, his ears plastered flat against his neck. Whoever this horse was, Ghost was going to make sure he learned his place when it came to the Bachelors. Snorting loudly, he pawed the ground with his fore hoof, daring the obviously younger stallion to oppose him.

Enigma:
Enigma stopped short of the imposing stallion, the moonlight dancing along the grey specked appaloosa, before Enigma could call out a greeting the threatening stallion's voice rang out in challenge; "Who are you and what are you doing here?" The chimaera colored stallion readied himself to reply to the sudden challenge, but before he could reply the stallion's gravely voice called out once again; "This is Bachelor territory. We don't look kindly on strangers trespassing like this, especially at this time of night." Enigma's ears flattened against his skull as he tossed his mane in agitation. Enigma knew this was some herd's territory, even a half blind stallion such as himself could see the signs. But it was late in the evening and he thought he could meander through the area without stumbling across another horse. Enigma snapped his tail once again out behind himself, ready to run if need be, as he braced himself to answer the slightly larger stallion.
"I am Enigma, and I am just exploring through here, I did not expect to meet someone out here." Enigma snapped back, trying to reign his anger in. "I saw the signs that this was a herds territory, and I would be remiss if I said that I was sorry for trespassing, I am just looking for information and stories." The larger stallion looked ready to pounce on Enigma, and while enigma's good eye could tell that this stallion would most likely beat him into a fine paste, his pride would not allow him to back down from what he thought was a justifiable reason for trespassing. He was not there to steal anything just for information, stories, and maybe a little conversation, and Enigma would be struck dead before he allowed some jumped up guard stallion from stopping him. Enigma's father could not stop him, even at the cost of his eye, from asking questions.
"And who might you be??" Enigma asked out as he flicked his tail against the biting insects of the night.

"I am Enigma, and I am just exploring through here, I did not expect to meet someone out here." The chimera snapped, anger in his eyes."I saw the signs that this was a herds territory, and I would be remiss if I said that I was sorry for trespassing, I am just looking for information and stories. And who might you be??"
Ghost relaxed his posture slightly as the stranger spoke. The chimera didn't seem to pose a threat to the herd, and he seemed sincere enough, though the Elite didn't trust him, especially when he said he was seeking information. Then again, a spy wouldn't be so dim witted. "Information and stories, eh?" Ghost chuckled softly as he muttered to himself, realizing just how young the strange stallion was. Shaking his head slightly he addressed the other stallion's question. "My name is Ghost, I am one of the Bachelor herd's Elite, second only to our leader himself." He spoke somewhat quieter. "Where are you from, Enigma? And what kind of information or stories are you seeking?" Ghost studied the stranger, watching him. He seemed to be the stupid kind of brave, standing up against a horse who could easily crush him. It amused Ghost enough though that he decided he'd humor the younger stallion...that was, as long as he didn't pose a security threat to the herd.

[Enigma]
Enigma noticed the larger stallion relax his threatening position, which in turn caused Enigma to relax internally. The tri-colored stallion heard the Larger stallion ask; "Information and stories, eh?" then start to chuckle softly. Enigma was about to comment on how the larger, speckled stallions words carried on the still air, but the stallion spoke up once again; "My name is Ghost, I am one of the Bachelor herd's Elite, second only to our leader himself." 'Ghost huh... and an elite he could be a good source of information and stories.' Enigma thought to himself. Before Enigma could once again speak Ghost spoke again this time quieter; "Where are you from, Enigma? And what kind of information or stories are you seeking?"
The color mismatched stallion thought for a moment, 'I see no harm in lying to him, ultimately I could run from him if need be.Although if he is an Elite of the Bachelor herd that could be a hassle. and the truth could get me closer to more stories.' then responded to the elite ghost, "Well Elite Ghost, I am an runaway from the thrice damned olde herd, and as to the stories and information, really all I am after is new stories from horses not so religious as to not be able to see the world for what it is. and information I am after is anything about risks of this new island, and rules that I should be aware of."

[Ghost]
A runaway from the Olde herd? Ghost pinned his ears back again as the strange stallion spoke. Though he didn't seem to be a spy, the elite wasn't about to take any chances. The herd's security needed to be maintained, and he wasn't about to let some flippant stranger ruin that. "So you're a loner now, eh? As far as rules and threats go, I suggest you keep to yourself and avoid most of our herd's boundaries. Especially the Summer Fields. Go there and you are likely to end up dead." The silver stallion huffed, pawing the ground for emphasis. " Aside from angry Bachelors who would likely take your head off for looking at them the wrong way, there are grassbeasts who love nothing more than horse for lunch. Other than that you should be safe enough to go on your way."
He paused for a moment, studying the younger horse before continuing. "Where exactly are you going?" Ghost posed the question more to figure out what exactly the horse was thinking in coming here. Was he trying to get close to the broods? Or maybe he was attempting to take a message from the Olde herd to the Exiles. Either way, it made the larger stallion somewhat uneasy, and he wanted the tri-colored horse gone without any issues... Then again, having some outside allies could prove useful, even if those allies were somewhat strange.

[Enigma]
"I guess I would be called a loner now huh?" Enigma semi asked as he rolled the world around in his mind, somehow it seemed... lonely. "I will do my best to avoid these summer fields, although a beast made of grass sounds fascinating. I do not want to be dead as of yet. there are still to many things to see and learn." Enigma said with a wonder to his one good eye, Death was an adventure for another day, today there were fields to explore and horses to meet. "Where exactly are you going?" the larger stallion named after a lost soul asked. "You know I'm not to sure, away would be one way to put it. I really have no destination in mind except away from the thrice damned island of the hoity horses I came from. I have seen amazing things and walked many a night with nothing but the stars and moon to light the grass. I guess a place for now would be somewhere I could talk about what I have seen and learn what I should see next. Do I make sense or am I rambling again?" Enigma asked as he tilted his head slightly, turning his good eye towards the larger stallion. Looking quite like a bird or a comically large dog, "I do apologize if I offend you Elite Ghost, I do not know the rules of addressing someone who is obviously higher on the chain of command then myself in your herd." Enigma thought for a second, his tail swishing at nighttime insects, the moon dancing along his bright and hated coat. "Are all Bachelors angry and as big as you?" Enigma asked because the question was dancing in his mind, he would have asked about the loners but this was a more pressing matter that had to be asked. Enigma did not do so well with being threatened and bigger horses meant bigger egos, and if another horse thought they would treat him even half as bad as his father then they would have a very angry horse on their hooves. The chimeric stallion may not have been the strongest horse around or even the biggest but he was done with holding his tongue and doing as he was told. Where was the problem with asking questions and being inquisitive, did the whole world frown upon such a thing? A question that Enigma had to find the answer to.

[Ghost]
Ghost studied the younger horse as he rambled on about how he wasn't really going anywhere, aside from away from the cursed Olde herd. "I guess a place for now would be somewhere I could talk about what I have seen and learn what I should see next. Do I make sense or am I rambling again?" "Both. You've been ramblin' since you opened your mouth, but I understand you well enough. I'd be willing to talk with you about the things you've seen and learned since leavin' your former home, as well as steer you in a direction fitting one of your interests so you can continue on this journey of yours." He paused, watching as Enigma tilted his head in what the silver stallion figured was an attempt to see him better. The young chimera seemed to have little to no sight in his left eye and it made Ghost snort in amusement. The older stallion lost sight in his eye years ago, so restricted vision wasn't new to him, then again, he'd grown up like that, so he didn't feel the need to overcompensate either.
"I do apologize if I offend you Elite Ghost, I do not know the rules of addressing someone who is obviously higher on the chain of command then myself in your herd. Are all Bachelors angry and as big as you?" Ghost chuckled as the younger stallion began speaking again. Though he didn't often communicate with those outside his own herd, it was always interesting to see how different individuals reacted. Even with the hints and undertones of an insult in the chimera's words, he was still one of the most respectful non-bachelor horses Ghost had ever met, and it fascinated him. "Ghost is fine. My rank will only matter to you if you cross me. You need not worry about how to address horses in my herd, as you are not one of us, Though if you wanted to join us, I wouldn't be opposed." He smiled as he joked with the younger stallion, though there was some truth to his words. The Bachelors could always use a strong, young, male, especially one who had just defected from the herd they were about to go to war with. Insider information was valuable.
Flicking an ear forward, he answered the young wanderer's question, trying to hold back his laughter as he spoke. "In a word, no. Most of them are worse. But enough talk about my size and perceived attitude. Tell me about yourself. What made you leave safety of your home with such animosity towards it?"

(Enigma)
The Chimeric stallion watched and listened to the larger stallion of the Bachelor herd, watching his stance and listening to his mannerisms in case Enigma needed to pass as a Bachelor anytime in his life, Or if he had to confuse or upset any of the guards from the Olde herd. "Both. You've been ramblin' since you opened your mouth, but I understand you well enough. I'd be willing to talk with you about the things you've seen and learned since leavin' your former home, as well as steer you in a direction fitting one of your interests so you can continue on this journey of yours." This made the ever questioning stallion to think about what Ghost meant by ‘steer’ him in a direction. Enigma was not a horse to be led about like a foal, but any help would be appreciated.“…Though if you wanted to join us, I wouldn't be opposed." Enigma had no intention of joining any herds at the moment but it was an idea, maybe this elite could tell him how to get into the territory without stepping on any hooves. The chimeric stallion kept noticing the subtle smiles that flickered across the other stallion’s face; Making Enigma feel as-if maybe Ghost was not telling the whole truth or if he was after something like some of the other horses he had met.
“…Most of them are worse.” Once again there was the stigma that all Bachelors are horrid beasts that should be avoided. “But enough talk about my size and perceived attitude. Tell me about yourself. What made you leave safety of your home with such animosity towards it?" the multicolored stallion thought for a moment before answering trying to think if there was anything that the larger stallion was asking that the answered to, would get him attacked… “Well as I am sure you have noticed I am a very curious horse who has a lot of questions and is constantly thinking of more. "Umm, I am pretty strong and pretty good at thinking on my hooves if need be. As to why I left the Olde herd, that’s a pretty long story, but the short version, which I am sure you would appreciate, is…” Enigma paused as he collected his thoughts as to how best shorten the story but keep the key details so as to not make himself look too rash. “My parents, who rank fairly high in the Olde herd, decided that it was time for me to find a mate, But unfortunately the choose a mate that was so different from myself and more like the daughter they never had… I could not face spending the rest of my life under their and her stifling traditions and expectations. So I ran, knowing that running was my only option besides death by tradition and religion.” Enigma watched the larger stallion for his reaction to his short story, Enigma knew he left out a few key details but the larger stallion seemed more like a straight to the point type although he seemed to have a good disposition.

"I can respect that." Ghost said nodding his head in agreement. Though he appreciated the structure of the laws that surrounded his herd, the massive stallion couldn't imagine anyone undermining him or his decisions, or worse forcing him to conform to the rules and laws of some stifling made up religion. "I thought maybe you had left due to the coming war. Many horses from the Olde herd seem somewhat opposed, and I've heard of a few leaving because of it..." He trailed off, studying the young horse once more. The colt was interesting to be sure. "I know you said you are out in search of stories and knowledge, but what do you plan to do now..? The world is a dangerous place for a young loner. Especially with the beasts that roam our wilds." The stallion began plodding along slowly, motioning for the younger horse to follow. As intriguing as Enigma was, dawn was approaching quickly, and the older stallion did have responsibilities to attend to.

(Enigma)
Enigma let the large stallions questions roll through his head, they were good questions and although He had not ran into any of the aforementioned beasties yet and the tri-colored stallion was not sure what he would do exactly, surely some of his early training back with the Olde herd would help him but information especially from someone who seemed to know the lay of the land, would be most appreciated. Enigma owed nothing to his old herd and their 'holy crusade' against the, so far, non-evil Bachelors. The chimeric stallion matched his pace to the larger stallion being careful to keep his head level with the larger stallions front shoulder, Enigma was still slipping into the position of a lesser herd member. His one good eye was scanning the ground for pitfalls and watching the ghost stallion for movements of aggression. "The coming fanatic war holds no sway over me, although my father seems to think purging the..." Enigma stopped speaking for a moment as he quickly thought of how best to say it. "...Well, your herd I'm sorry to say. I myself see no reason for this war but I also see no reason in half the things they did after seeing just the little bit of the world that I have seen." The stallion thought that was the best way to word it without hurting any feelings and getting himself attacked. "I am glad to hear that a few other equines have smarted up and ran like me. Although if you find yourself on the battlefield, and if you happen to see a stallion with a coat the color of a moonless night, I would advise you to not take him head on. He is a cruel fighter and a worse father." Enigma's voice dripped with malice and barely contained hatred while he spoke of his sire. "As to my plans now, I figure I will wander around and learn as much as I can and maybe find a few friends and be able to share what I have learned to those that are as new to the world as I am. I have heard a lot about the 'monsters' that roam the Olde island but I know very little about any of the demons that inhabit this or any other isle." The tri-colored stallion's voice had lost its malice while he spoke of his plans and hinted at excitement at the opportunity of new information.
