"Afinity for Darkness" Kiro | Ba'Yagu (NPC) MythicalPrancer | Elesette _____________________________________
After a long journey that had gathered loners from all across the land to travel in unison towards an unknown place in the hope of safety, something is stirring. On the second night of their arrival on the fourth island, all is quiet as most of the tired and weary have closed their eyes to rest, readying themselves for the exploration of the land that would come with daybreak. Even as the gentle night air flew cooly over the resting faces, there were two still very much awake. The old witch had just been approached by the renowned thief, a peculiar glint in his eye that showed something beyond mischief. No not trickery or self amusement but something far, far darker.
New beginnings came with new opportunities, Kiro knew this all to well. This land had become a new beginning for him... However it was hardly the 'clean slate' most others talked about when beginning anew. No, Kiro's intentions were to improve his skills in thieving from whatever horses roamed this unknown land and his gut told him there was bound to be some. Looking at the wall beside them and the giant trees that climbed the sky behind it, he could feel his gut instinct telling him there was more. To go a little deeper, search a little farther. Though, there was one thing holding him back from leaving right there and then and it certainly wasn't any strange new-found affection for this annoying group of individuals. It was the witch.
So long had he waited, curious and lurking wondering when it was his time. His moment to unlock his gift and discover what possible talent he could have hidden deep inside him. He wanted to be surprised, perhaps if there was still some goodness inside of him or perhaps to find out how much the darkness had grown in his black hole of a heart. He felt this was the time, his time. No interference from the other morons that surrounded them he was finally able to talk to the wise Ba'Yagu peacefully as he approached her in a determined smooth manner.
"Milady, I have something to request of you. If you please-" Even now, his façade had to hold and not waver as he laid his final words of charm onto minds he would never toy with again. After tonight, he's be gone beyond the walls. "I have waited a long time to ask this of you. However I feel the time is right." He paused willingly, making sure his next words were heard clearly as he looked her straight in the eyes with an almost piercing focus. "I wish to unlock my gift".

Bayagu couldn't sleep. It wasn't that she didn't want to, but the restless feeling that the worst was yet to come was resting on the Witch's shoulders. She didn't want to admit it, but she was still scared she had made the wrong choice. She, the Great Witch of Chevalin, Ba'Yagu was terribly frightened for the first time since she had locked the Unicorns away. She was afraid they may come back and not have learnt their lesson. She sighed, at least the loners that surrounded her now trusted her. It had been an entire day since they had reached the Island and the night sky was soft, soothing even. All of the loners were scared, but they had stayed, and that was enough for the Witch Ba'Yagu to feel she had acomplished something.
"Oh my, my thoughts have become haphazard" she muttered to herself. They really had, she couldn't seem to keep a straight line of thought. Yet, she was surprised when someone other than herself broke her thoughts again. "Kiro?" She turned slowly. Something seemed different about the calm stallion's demeanor, but she hadn't a clue what it could be. Then he spoke.
"I see..." She mussed looking at the moon above. She hadn't expected such a sudden demand. Of course, many horses were excited to unlock their gifts. They wanted to know what kind of power rested in them. Yet, she never had felt comfortable giving it to horses she didn't know. Power was too easily abused, and she had seen it take horses down a dark road far too many a time. She could always pull the old trick of "You're not ready yet", as she had done with horses she didn't like so many times before, but truely she didn't know. Was this stallion ready to unlock his gift? Even she didn't know what it was yet.
"...and what makes you think you're ready?" She cocked an eyebrow at the stallion, wondering what his response might be.

Kiro eyed the witch with a hint of curiosity, having always wondered how she went about the actual approach to granting horses their gifts and there was definitely something hesitant in her voice. As soon as she had posed the question the mustang stallion raised his head and kept his eyes entirely focused on her, he could sense that she was testing him but to the stallion there was nothing to question. He was ready.
"Forgive me for being blunt, BaYagu, but it's not a matter of believing. It's knowing." He paused for a moment to pace his words, making sure he was heard correctly with not a shred of hesitation in his calm voice. His head turned a little to the land that surrounded them then, looking into the distance with a thoughtful expression. "This journey marks a new beginning for all of us, that is one thing I am sure of be it good or bad. It comes with new opportunities and decisions that come along not all too often. However I am entirely aware new dangers also lie here, and though it is not my main motive I wish to be able to find a better way t protect myself against what lies in the unknown. Not only that, magic has been a great fascination for me since I have experienced it many times in my family. My father and sister, their experience with their gifts has been a great eye opener for me but also the reason I have strayed from asking this from you for so long. Their power consumed them and I knew it had to take great self control to be able to carry such a heavy responsibility of not abusing such power. I believe I have gained such self control."
For once, Kiro had been able to maintain completely honest when explaining himself. His father's blood manipulation and his sister's demonism, along with their inability to keep from going mad with power, had always been a large influence on his decision to try to unlock his gift. He turned back to the witch then, concentrated and serious.
"However, I believe my greatest motivation would be to find myself. To know what rests at the very core of my soul and perhaps convince my own conscience there is still some good in me worth saving or finally settle the doubt that this numbness in me truly means I am rotten to the deepest pits of the cavity that was once my heart."//

Bayagu stopped in her train of though. This stallion really thought he was going to convince her he was ready. She could see he was not - he was far too tense... too brooding to receive his gift at this time. His family had been consumed by their gifts and she was convinced that he would be just as easily consumed. He truly was of the amusing sort, but Ba'yagu was on her wits end since Miraphy broke the wall, and if he persisted she was likely to break under the preassure. Still, she managed to chuckle out loud, "and what if I told you the stars simply weren't aligned for it Kiro?" She hoped the lackadaisy attempt to deter him would have some effect. She wasn't awake enough for gift giving.... she just wanted now to be alone and to sleep. She wanted to think about her actions, and how they were going to effect her and the others. Of course, the stallion had more to say, she could feel that like a tic in her skin.
"mmm, Im quite sure this journey is an ending for some..." She mussed under her breath, knowing that it was all too true, for her and likely some of the others, but she had listened to him all the way through. She had known his parents, known his sister. She didn't remember them well now but she had given them their gifts... and some you just didn't forget. She frowned as he spoke. "And I don't doubt your sister said something similiar to me Kiro - everyone thinks their gift will fix them. Im sad to say I've seen that isn't true. What do you think is so different about you.... are you special Kiro?" The dappled mare couldn't help but hiss as she spoke. She was not known to be a rude, or highly emotional being, but tonight was different for the witch. She was afraid - and everything was on her nerves.

The chuckle ran through the buckskin's ears like a mocking song, and it was nothing short of a slap in the face. To him, it meant that she had tossed aside his serious demeanor and his attempt to be honest for once. He definitely didn't appreciate it. She had definitely underestimated how rare it was for a darkened soul like his to do so, and it rubbed him the wrong way. "Then I ask you to view those stars in a different light, venerable witch." He asked with a polite tone as he bowed his head calmly, contradicting his every thought in that moment. "Though I do feel that it is possibly not the whole truth on why you are hesitant. Forgive me for assuming, of course, I cannot be sure" he mused a little, not losing his respectful tone for a second.
However, at the mention of his sister and her question he had to bite his tongue. Prevent himself from breaking the act, for he was sure it would amount to no good in the presence of once so powerful. Though the hiss in her voice only caused him to take a few extra moments to calm himself, his composed facial expression never changing. "My sister is irrelevant. No miracle could fix her twisted soul..." He flicked an ear lazily and snaked his head to the side slightly "it seems I have been misunderstood, milady. I do not wish to be fixed as you put it. I simply wish to know the truth". Kiro was stubborn with certain things, but he knew that this was not the time to show such a trait. The witch seemed exhausted, and the matter had to be handled delicately. "I see the journey has worn your energy, and I do not wish to tire you further. But you see, it has brought a heavy exhaustion upon us all and in this state I do not seem myself fit to continue on this mysterious path. You have told us so little, and it is your right to do so. However, I fear for what is ahead and I wish to sleep soundly knowing something inside me can learn to grow for my own protection. You knew my father, did you not Ba'Yagu? Then surely, you know I was never able to protect myself in the past. Please, let us both sleep peacefully this evening".
