She was slightly stunned by how quickly he explained himself. Of course, she didnt really know him, but she'd expected him to be more...i dont know...aggressive? She collected herself and cleared her throat. "Well, why dont you just leave now? I dont know much about your herd but ive been carrying messages from quite a few members to other herds and they talk about rebelling. Why dont you just leave now you could run all the way to olde right now and probably never be caught by the time you've made it across the land bridge. Unicorns knows ive had to run my way to the land bridge as a means of escape several times and not once have i looked back." She asked him. Now that she knew he almost for sure wasnt out to get her, she relaxed a little, but stayed a few yards distance in case she had to run for her life.

Cethin looked at her incredulously, "Are you crazy mare, I will never leave for a whole bunch of religious softies who believe they live under the gods' thumb." He snorted at her stupidity. "Rebelling, you say. There is already a war about to be waged. If we rebel now we'll be weak and Olde will overtake all the herds. You precious loners will be forced out of the territories or captured." Cethin had always thought of the war that way. Customs and traditions shattered. Herds diminished to near nothing, and the pathetic loners slain in between gunfire.
"By the way, sweetheart. The landbridge shattered, I have no intents to swim my way to Olde. A pain it would be to join such a lousy herd." He laughed and looked back at her, "And you, you shouldn't be relaxing. Shows your inept skills, say I had a group of my own waiting to ambush you? To take you in?" He laughed again and turned away from her. He spoke over his shoulder, his hooves sinking in the wet sand on the beach, "Now, Miss Priss. Why, might I ask, do you carry messages between the herds so often. You as a loner could get attacked by say a flock of lunar ravens or even a city cougar. Maybe even a grass beast here. Do you feel that it is your duty to work under the herds as a mere messenger? I think you're being completely backstabbed. One day you'll just run right into a trap. During the war you'll have to travel through battlefields. Do you really believe that you, as one, could do that?"
He had his views on Loners. They were little buggars who got in the herd's way only to be used to the extent of their death. This mare. Hah, she thought she was high and mighty, fit to carry messages for a king. Well actually say she is a messenger and she has been to olde. She techinically could. He smiled at the thought. Someone would just end up using her. Send her into a trap. It happened so often in Chevalin, murders, captures, deaths, kidnappings, etc. It all happened! It all would happen again. You just had to hope you weren't caught in the crossfire. See if you were, Cethin thought with a flourish, someone will mow you down, beat you, take your jewels, and leave you for dead, never bothering to relive your memory.

Greer ignored his rude comments, and decided it was best to just leave it be. Even if he did somehow manage to capture the fiery little mare, she had her tricks of escaping.
"Who ever said you have to join the olde? And although they are a bunch of unicorn worshiping freaks, most of them seem harmless, and weak. And what if when the war does happen, your herd members decide to attack each other? They talk about it more and more through the notes i pass on, and i dont know what will be left of your herd. I hear some of them will leave for the uncharted territory, lord knows whats there but im planning on going there if the going gets tough. " She informed him. It was true, she had always wondered what was there. If the war was as bad as she predicted, many would take shelter there.
"I've crossed the land bridge many times broken and formed. Sure the currents tough and there is no one on shore to rescue you but, unless your afraid of watrer," she scoffed. "With determination its easy enough to cross with minimal water in your lungs." She chided. "Dont call me sweetheart, butter cakes. Obviously you dont have a group or else i wouldn't have spit on your pathetic hide back in the woods, id already have been captured." She noted. Sure, he could capture her. But she knew her ways of escape, and had been captured in the past, but easily slipped from the heard almost unnoticed. "Well, the reason i carry messages? I dont get paid sure, but there are other means of currency. People tell me secrets from there past and present. They tell me things they've done, and its amazing and appalling all the same. Sure, Ive been attacked, nearly killed once. But its worth it. I live for the adrenaline. This scar," She said, motioning to the two large scars on her neck. "are from a grass beast. And the three on my hip and the two on my knees are from a pack of..about 50 common rats. But guess what, im alive. For now.." She chuckled.

"You did," Cethin told her pointedly. "Besides, no herd suits me more. And if the Bachelor herd was to break up all of us would be destroyed in the battles and Olde would become as bad as us. And sweetheart," He drawled out the word, "scars mean nothing unless you learned from them, and you don't seem to have learned because should you have met any others of my kind you'd be a slave right now." He turned to face her, "besides crossing a land bridge in shark infested water to the very herd opposing us would be treacherous and unrewarding." He turned towards the grullo and smiled ever so slightly. "Though now that you do know of me I suppose you shouldn't fear me." He chuckled and took a few steps into the woodland, heading back to his shared meadow. "When, Miss, might I see you again? Or might I never catch a glimpse of you in years to come?" He flicked his ears and swished his tail impatiently.

"You seem to be quite the pessimist." Greer noted. She felt emotion well up inside her as he called her sweetheart, yet again. Her hooves failed her as she froze, lowering her head, forcing herself not to freak out. She had a flash back to the days back in the canyon, with her father. They'd been playing tag, and he had let her win again.
"You let me win!" She giggled, leaning on his side. "No i didn't, that was all you." He said, nuzzling her side and smiling down at her warmly. "I love you daddy." Greer said quietly. "I love you too, sweetheart." Her father said, giving her a kiss on the cheek.
All of the emotions Greer had been bottling up exploded. "Dont ever Fairying call me sweat heart you Fairying assholesunofabitchyounogoodrottenFairyface!!!" Greer shouted, her words slurring together like soup. She slammed into Cethin, knocking him to the ground. Her hide shook as she shot to her hooves, and backed up with fear.
"Keep it together. Keep it together. Calm the Fairy down greer! keep it together, keep it together." She repeated to herself in a whisper on shaking hooves.

Cethin snaked away from her, standing from the ground again, eyes full of fury. He stepped towards her, "Never mind mare, the next time we meet you'll hopefully be lying as a corpse on the ground. I don't bother with impudent bitches like you." He turned tail and stalked away, no point in fighting the frightened and nervous mare. Fear spurred one on with the power of a lion. He walked through the trees and shook the sand off his pelt. Still walking along with pinned ears and a burning hatred. If she followed him he wouldn't by then be the peaceful one. Their next meeting would be a fight for sure and hopefully one mare wouldn't be returning to his sight again.

"Wait!Im sorry!" She shouted after him. She trotted after him frantically. "I didnt mean too! I just..its an impulse!" Now the tears were flowing. She always got so attached no matter who she had spent her time with. She halted.
"Please dont leave me." She cried, voice cracking.

Cethin stopped short and looked over his shoulder, cocking his head. This mare was a mess. He laughed silently and turned to face her. He sat down on his haunches lazily and stared at her tear strewn face. "When I was a foal, I had a best friend. Really my only friend." He took a deep breath recalling the events. "We came here one day hoping to play in the shallow water and to chase seagulls like children often do, but currents changed and dragged both us out to sea. I was the only one they rescued."
He finished quietly, paraphrasing the tragic story for him and the herd. "Now what do you see when you look at me. The deadly current that could pose something of a threat, or of the rescuers." He looked imploringly at the mare who's come chasing after him.

Greer tried to clean herself up, but failed. She listened to Cethin's story intently. She imagined the event of him being pulled out to the sea in her head. The ocean water swallowing them up, pushing into their frsgile lungs, swallowing them hole.
"Your not a bad guy, Cethin." She knew he had most likely grown up with the bachelors and was used to the ways of that awful herd. She took a few steps closer, and nosed his shoulder. "Your were kind enough to not kill me when you had the opportunity. You have good. Your are not the current." She told him truthfully. She made a silent wish he would kill her. She hated wandering around herdless, being afraid of anything that moves, and having constant flashbacks. Of course, she always put on a tough front, but sometimes it broke, like before.

Cethin flinched at the mare's touch. Only one other horse interacted in a soft way with him and that was his mate. He side stepped away from the mare and flattened his ears a bit, "Mare, you need to help yourself get stronger. You act as if you are, but that little..." He shook his head as if not knowing what to call her breakdown, "that shows you have a weakness like us all." He cocked his head and stared into her face.
"I do not wish harm to you, but if you are to actually converse with me and I will actually let a, mare, escape... you need to be stronger than me. Otherwise I owe you no respect and therefor can play with you all I want." He stepped forward and nudged her own muzzle, "I know about pain." He blinked slowly, orange eyes full of what he spoke of. The pain of memories and the pain of the future to come.

Greer looked at the horse infront of her. He looked so strong, yet..broken. His orange eyes looked painful and filled with hurt. She payed no mind to responding to his comments. Her skin tickled at his touch and she lunged forward, wraping her neck around his she gently released him from her tight grip, and reached back. She took one of the beaded braclets made from wine and rocks that kept her now matted braid together and tied it in a lock of his mane. She nudged his muzzle once more, and turned away. She closed her eyes tight in an effort not to begin crying. And with that, she walked down the beach and out of sight.
