MAORI | EXILE | MEDIC
The memories haunted her, the nightmares suffocating her every time she could finally get to sleep. She'd woken up sweaty too many times, had been too scared to go to sleep again and the resting bodies of her fellow herd members weren't as comforting as she had hoped. She knew staying at one place was better. In the very beginning she thought it would slowly fade, that the nightmares would die as soon as the memories started to get blurry. But it just wouldn't happen and slowly she was giving up trying to get to sleep.
And tonight; tonight was just such a night. She'd been turning, standing, had been laying under her weeping willow tree next to the river, but even the sound of the river's water slowly streaming in between it's banks couldn't sooth her. The night wouldn't help her and neither did the darkness, so after waking up yet another time, she'd just jump up and run. She ran and ran, faster than her slim, short legs could actually carry her.
Until they indeed couldn't anymore and she just had to stop and catch her breath. She had no idea where she had gone and where she actually was now, but when she smelled the ashy air, she knew exactly where she was. The sun was already showing low upon the horizon, finally starting to give the dark sky a more pinkish morning glow. She snorted heavily, still trying to regulate her breathing again. She quickly scanned her area, but as far as she could see she was alone. Something that wasn't that weird, since it was a very, very early morning and since the fact that Exiles had left their home after the fire. A quick shiver ran over her spine thinking back to that one day, but with a soft shake of her head she tried to push that memory away. She'd seen enough horror already, carved in the back of her mind.
Determined to just get away for a while, she picked up her pace towards the forest. The Charred Forest, the forest that was once their sanctuary, their hideout, their home, and now it was once left death and abandoned, covered in ash and whatever beasts lived there. Oh, how they'd tell her that wandering off was a bad idea, particular around this time of crisis. But she knew better. They actually said, along the lines of you better couldn't, she actually couldn't do it. But she was never one that followed the rules.
