The Ability
Private RP Dreamer12423's Dancer & ArcanaMajor's Tem. PG-13/R
Summary Tem has taken quite well to his ability of stealth. A bit too well. One day, while moving about in the shadows, Tem startles the wrong horse at the wrong time. Something bad happens as a result. (A fight? Someone gets injured? Could be anything!)
Tem | Olde Stallion | Healer Mage
There was something freeing about moving where others couldn't see him. Night was creeping up on them and while some light still shimmered through the silver trees, long shadows made it easy for him to keep going. Where it was dark, no one could see him, and as he focused on careful breathing, he knew it'd be extremely hard for him to be noticed. This was what he'd trained for. This was why he'd temporarily left his healer skills behind and focused on his stealth. Being able to go where he wanted without commentary was amazing and it made his spirits soar.
Ducking through low-hanging foliage, he continued his speedy dash through the silver wood. Hooves tread swiftly, though his experience made him lessen their sound. He'd moved past one stallion, earlier, relishing in his lack of reaction, and snuck up on another. Now he was just running. Running and breathing and enjoying his ability to the fullest. If he wanted to, little Tem with his speed and clumsiness, could disappear altogether.
He jumped, tail whipping behind him, as he reached a fallen log. It looked otherworldly, with its silver shine among dark grass. He didn't take too much heed and thundered on. Lurching around a group of trees, standing close together, he didn't notice the other figure until it was too late. Trying to swerve around the horse in his way, he shrieked violently and threw his body to the side. With a bit of luck, he wouldn't hit them, but he wasn't too sure.
He'd really have to look where he was going, next time.

Dancer had been enjoying the peace and quite of the silver wood. That was until a little horse came crashing over a log. She had barely avoided a collision with him. If he hadn't moved sideways as well, they surely would have crashed together. The silver wood was a place to escape from the herd, and here was one of them. The dunskin snorted.
"Watch where you're going, shrimp," she snarled as she turned on the small stallion. "I don't appreciate being jumped on, you know. I hate being disturbed when I'm in the silver wood as well.v So that's two lines you crossed in one go, congratulations." She glared at him with her one good eye, making sure that her other eye was cover ed by her long forelock. She shook out her long mane and flicked her tail.
"If you plan on running through the woods like a manic, do look where you put your hooves, some of us prefer the peace of mind the woods provide," she said, her tone becoming softer as she calmed down from the initial scare. She sighed and looked at the small stallion with curiosity. "I don't think I have ever seen you before, not that that's saying anything," she said looking him over. "After all, I barely know anyone in the herd."
The dunskin mare laid down with a sigh. Why was I so spooked by a tiny horse? I can't believe I didn't hear him coming. Wait... "Excuse me, would you happen to have your ability? And if so, is it stealth? Not very many horses can sneak up on me and spook me as much as you just did." Her blue eyes held onto his golden ones. That must be it, hardly anyone can sneak up on me. He was also running at a top speed to make it over that log, so I should have been able to hear his hoofsteps, but I didn't hear a sound from te woods until I nearly got hit by him.

Tem | Olde Stallion | Healer Mage
He wasn't sure how he'd managed, but somehow Tem had put his hoof in his mouth again. He shrunk back as the mare he'd almost ran over turned snarling teeth his way. She really looked vicious and ready to kick him where it hurt. He glanced to the woods behind her, wondering if there was enough shadow to just disappear. That would probably spook her even more, though. He didn't know who she was, really, and his curiousity spiked.
"Watch where you're going, shrimp," the mare said none too kindly. He nodded frantically, trying to make sure she knew she was right in everything she said. He had no intention of making enemies where they weren't needed.
"I've never been called a shrimp before," he mused. "Don't those live in the water? I'm not too great a swimmer. Seems an awkward combination."
He watched closely as the mare continued to glare at him. She was someone he hadn't seen before. If he had, he'd have remembered her. Her coat was one of many colours and she had long, flowy hair. An interesting visage. Stallions no doubt lined up for her. Maybe that was an explanation for her snippy retort. That and Tem scaring her off her hooves.
"I don't appreciate being jumped on, you know. I hate being disturbed when I'm in the silver wood as well.v So that's two lines you crossed in one go, congratulations."
Well, he could understand that. He was tiny, so he was often the one getting jumped on, and he didn't much enjoy it either. He nodded again. "I know. I'm sorry. If it's any consolation, I had no intention of jumping on you. It'd be rude! I was just running and you were hidden behind a tree. Tricksy things, those trees. It's like they were trying to get me into trouble!"
"My name is Tem!" he replied happily when she showed some interest. Her annoyance was waning, it seemed. Maybe it had been the fright and she was usually a well-mannered mare. Fear could make the best of them into wild beasts. "And you are?"
"Excuse me, would you happen to have your ability? And if so, is it stealth? Not very many horses can sneak up on me and spook me as much as you just did."
"I..." Tem started. He hadn't talked to many horses about his ability. In fact, he usually kept it quiet. Something like stealth was most useful when others didn't know about it and he'd once been told that it fit sneaky, unpredictable horses. Thieves, untrustworthy sorts. He wasn't any of those things and he didn't want other horses thinking he was.
"Maybe?"

Dancer giggled a little bit as Tem added his little snippets on her insults. The stallion was quite a funny one, interesting to say the least. "My name is Dancer. It's nice to meet you Tem," she said. She looked him over again with her good eye as he paused in his answer with her question.
"To me, 'maybe' means 'yes'," she said. Her good eye lighting up with mischievous light. "My ability is simply lore knowledge, but it's quite interesting to be able to learn about the other herds, even though I can never interact with them." She smiled shyly at the bay stallion. "I'm sorry if you're finding any of this to be a drag, I'm just rambling." She sighed. "With everything that has been going on, I've seemed to have become much more talkative and jumpy."
Dancer looked up to the leaves and tree branches with a soft sigh. "It's so peaceful in these woods, I don't know why more of the herd spends time in here, it's easy to slip into a mindset that lets you forget about the real world. It's just a nice place to be," she said, her eyes shifting out of focus. She looked back to Tem an easy smile on her face.
"I'm going to guess that you came to the Woods to play around with your ability," Dancer said, a slight smirk on her face. "Your not going to be able to deny that your ability is stealth, I can tell it is."

Tem | Olde Stallion | Healer Mage
The mare was giggling now. That was a much better reaction than her angry attitude earlier. Tem was rather pleased with himself. He enjoyed making others laugh. As long as it wasn't in mockery or derision, at least. And so far this mare seemed to have turned from annoyed to friendly. Complete with soft giggling. He'd settle for that.
"Dancer," he repeated. "That is an interesting name. Doesn't that come with all sorts of expectations? I'd expect you to go dancing through life, hearing that name."
She was giggling and smiling now. Definite improvement! Tem smiled back, relaxing under the spotty shady of the trees. He'd diffused the situation and this mare seemed friendly enough. Danger over.
"Maybe to me means maybe." He grinned. "Possibly someone's inclination not to share. You're not a drag, though, and neither is your ability. We all enjoy different things. You fit yours best, as I do mine. Whatever that might be."
He really didn't want to share what his ability was. She might not care, but others would and he wanted to keep it to himself. It was a personal thing and one that could get him in trouble. It wasn't like the harmless, accepted lore knowledge she could talk about freely. It wouldn't make others distrust her.
"It's definitely peaceful here. It's so quiet that I often use it to stretch my legs. I'm super fast, you see. Maybe that's why you didn't hear me coming," he said, tilting his head. "Or maybe you were just distracted?"

"My father gave it me, though he called me Cloud-Dancer more than Dancer," she said with a soft smile. "And I'm glad that you don't think I'm a drag, Tem. Thank you." She sighed with a soft smile and looked back up to the canopy of silver leaves above their heads.
"I can see that you are fast, but I don't think you would be quite enough without stealth to cover up your hoofsteps," Dancer said, a playful grin on her face when she looked back to him. "You see, I'm much more careful with what is going on around me since I was foal." Her eyes became less playful and her smile fell slightly. "At least, ever since I was nearly killed by a cougar." A shiver went down her spine as she thought of that. "Not too much fun."
Dancer smiled again at Tem. "And if you wanted to keep your ability a secret, you shouldn't have said 'maybe', but what reason do I have to tell anyone your ability? Not one," she said. "I'm a very trustworthy gal, just so ya know. I'll take any and all secrets to my grave, and I've been told a few." She smiled playfully at him. "You can tell me if you want, but I think your ability is stealth, if you tell me I'll be right, if you don't there's a fifty-fifty chance that I'm right."
She smirked slightly. "I like my chances either way."

Tem | Olde Stallion | Healer Mage
This mare was peculiar. Not in a bad way, Tem decided, but she wasn't like regular mares either. She was a bit nosy and liked smiling at him a bit too much. It made him want to tell her that he wasn't into mares as much as others might be, but that was another bit of information he didn't want to share. She was a stranger, after all! So he smiled back warmly and gave her a wink.
"You father gave you an interesting name for an interesting mare, I suppose. Though dancing on the clouds sounds terrifying. What if you were to fall?"
The mere idea made him shiver. He usually didn't have a problem with heights, but that high up in the sky was too big of a danger. Those places were for birds and the blinking of stars.
"I can see that you are fast, but I don't think you would be quite enough without stealth to cover up your hoofsteps."
The small stallion snorted. "Shows what you know. I am plenty fast enough to barely touch the ground!"
He laughed. She was still trying to find out about his ability and her persistence just made him want to keep it to himself. He glanced at his surroundings, hoping others weren't nearby. A few horses knew about his ability - Ciel, Arietti, some unfortunate stallions he'd been trying to impress - but most didn't and he'd like to keep it that way.
"Cougars??" he spluttered as she told him about her ordeal. "That's terrible! I guess you could have used your cloud walking there. I'm glad to hear you got out fairly unscathed, though. That must have been a terrifying situation."
Just imagining it made him shake. He was tiny and he knew that against a cougar he'd be lost. He could run away, though, and probably be faster than him. But if the cougar grabbed him like it had her, then he was gone. And he didn't like to be gone. He had things to do and kings to romance.
"You can tell me if you want, but I think your ability is stealth, if you tell me I'll be right, if you don't there's a fifty-fifty chance that I'm right."
He smirked at her. "My, but you're nosy, aren't you? So am I, of course, but still. I guess pretty mares like you can get any stallion talking."

"My father nicknamed me Cloud-Dancer thanks to my markings. He always said they looked like clouds," she looked to her white and dunskin coat, a soft smile on her face. "I miss him dearly.," she said with a sigh.
"I don't think I would fall," Dancer said. "I like to think it would just be a way to spread your wings." Her blue twinkled as she spoke. "I've heard of some horses who have gotten the gift of flight. I do hope that that's what I get as my gift. It would be wonderful to be able to fly and see the other herds without any danger of being caught by them." She sighed happily as she thought about soaring over the other isles.
"I've never heard of a horse that barely touched the ground when they ran," Dancer said, narrowing her eyes playfully. She stood up from where she had been laying. "Why don't you show me how quickly you can run. I've stood up to Raven in a race before and nearly beat him, I would have if he hadn't chested his way over the finish line." She smirked. "Only if you're up for a little race through the woods."
She quirked an eyebrow as the small bay got to the subject of how talkative she was. "I'm not usually much of a talker, but it seems that it's fine with you. I'm not too into the whole 'relationship' aspect of things. I'd rather be on my own! Most of my friends and herd members I know are stallions. I'm just more of a tom-boy than anything." She smirked again. She held her head high.
"So, do you want to race, or are you too chick to?" Dancer asked him, looking at him through her blue eye.
