Dawning of a New Era Roleplay between Pony-Bones' Obscura and Sateenkaarisitruuna's Nimh
Finally she had met the witch - the one that saw the true power within her, one that could be harnessed and explored and used to do good. Though she had had sporadic visions before the gift was truly unlocked by the eccentric old Loner mare Ba'Yagu, one of which had been mildly useful in at least starting a war between her own valiant herd and the misguided herd of the Bachelors, now they would come in clearer. Or that was Obscura's understanding anyway, and it was a hazy understanding at that. Her mind felt broken as it had before, as if time and space were bending around her and she wasn't quite sure what day it was, or where she was. Visions had come flooding in upon her reception of the precious stone that she now carried as a reminder of who she was, and what she could do, and when they stopped, Obscura felt like a dried up husk, a void through which those visions had channeled and nothing more. Yet Ba'Yagu insisted that this was normal, if not expected, especially since she had had such a close relationship with her 'gift' before its full potential was released. This did not feel normal, however, it felt...like transcendence.
Her hooves fell heavy into the tall grass that surrounded the area in which Ba'Yagu had stopped for the day. It felt like a sea of green, rippling in the wind, tickling the longer fur of her belly. Obscura wasn't terribly good at shedding out for summer, and thus long hairs even still remained now that autumn was upon them. Healing mages predicted that it was due to her lack of care at crucial times in her development that this occurred. Her body felt the need to hold on to everything it had, even though now she was mildly better about not slipping into a drug induced sleep that lasted weeks on end. Obscura's pale eyes, their pupils mere pinpricks against the ambient light of the clouded sun, flicked upwards for a moment, then around. Unicorns. She had seen them so close. Where were they now? She took a few steps forward, thinking she had seen a shimmer, a glimpse. "Please, come back to me." She called out, her voice soft and hoarse, as if it had been unused for quite a while. In truth it hadn't, isolation had been her friend recently until she had finally made the trek to see her powers unleashed. Isolation called again, but not nearly as loudly as the unicorns, which bade her to come to them. "Where are you?" Obscura said to nothing, stumbling forth a little bit, her mind playing some nightmarish loop. Nothing accurate to what she knew the unicorns to be. She was slipping.
"Help me, please." The mare said, her voice barely above a whisper now, her eyes weeping from the pain of the sunlight as it peeked through its cover and pierced through her veil of mane. "I cannot see now, but lead me and I will follow. I will always follow."

Nimh
Nimh savoured in the sunlight, enjoying the quiet. Her mind was at ease when all she could hear was the slight rustling of the grass in the gentle wind and some birds on the sky. For a horse who had no home and no back-up from others such moments of peace were greatly appreciated. The taste of the still lush grass was heavenly. It was not always a given she'd have a chance to settle anywhere, she was always on the move and on the look-out. No one was going to watch after her if not herself. Nimh had learned this very early on and she took pride in her survival thus far.
Her feathered feet carried her forward with ease, she didn't think much of it. Not until her peace and quiet was interrupted. Her grey ears shot forward as her pale lavender eyes quickly found the dark figure of a mare. She remained completely still, watching this stranger closely and deciding whether or not she was an immediate threat. Her muscles twitched, ready to go. She was always ready to go. Her survival instict did tone down a little as she watched this unknown invidual. She did seem a bit off, somehow, Nimh's keen ears could barely make up any words coming out of this strange mare's mouth and what she did make out of it, she couldn't make any sense of.
Carefully and slowly she approached, keeping a little distance between the inviduals but wanting to see up closer what this was all about. The posture of this dark brown mare did not indicate danger and Nimh was ready to take a little chance on this one. She was always immediately intrigued by anything odd.
She tried saying something, but her throat was so dry nothing noticeable would come out. She cleared her throat, stomping her feet in an exaggerated manner in a try to catch the attention of the other horse.
"Hey. You alright?" she got out. She didn't really know how to exactly approach this invidual, something about her presence set her at unease but she could not quite make anything out of it. She did wonder what herd this invidual belonged into, and if it was an Olde why she would have wandered this far off from the safety of the herd. Some instinct was trying to scream for Nimh to stay away, but a gut feeling had her believing this horse might need help and her compassionate heart would not just simply let it be.

Obscura heard a voice - she was sure of it this time. It had tickled her ears going down and into her mind, so she knew that this voice must have come from outside her own mind. She lifted her head and glanced around, trying to locate where it had come from, though she did not hear it again and her head was too foggy. Even her eyes could not resist the blur that the tears were causing, and she found herself on her knees in the grass. "I have to sleep now - you can visit me then, as you always do" Obscura said quietly to no-one and everyone, the Unicorns that surrounded her, and perhaps the everyday horse that had the misfortune of watching this incident. The grass did seem rather inviting, not too hot now that Summer was fading and the sun hid behind a mask of clouds. Her eyes burned less as she closed them, her ears pricked for voices. The voice of a Unicorn, she could only guess, but now, she just couldn't get up again. She was so tired, as if she had been awake for days, and reality was blurring into her dreamworld, obscuring the truth of both the present and the future. It was too hard to fight it.
As everything went black, she thought she saw someone out of the corner of her eye, but it was hard to say whether it was an actual 'someone' or merely a mirage of her shattered mind. Obscura's head dropped heavily into the grass surrounding her, and was again unconscious.

Nimh watched as the other mare tried to see her but didn't. It was very confusing. Her weight altered from leg to leg while she waited awkwardly. Maybe this horse didn't want any company? She seemed pretty out of everything, reality. Nimh couldn't even tell if she was crying or if her eyes were just leaking. She felt uncomfortable but she didn't feel like she could just turn her back and walk away. Something was wrong, she was sure of it. She decided to at least give this a try, whatever it was.
She watched as the mare laid down, maybe even more confused. Nimh was trying her hardest to figure this weirdness out, but she had no answers and it seemed like she wasn't getting any right away either. She was getting increasingly curious. She didn't know who this mare was talking to but it didn't seem like it was Nimh. She couldn't help glancing around, a little bit paranoid. Nothing out of the ordinary caught her eye. Hmm.
The dappled grey mare lowered her head and nibbled on the grass, one eye on the strange horse at all times. Her eyes were spinning around, catching any voices and ready to be alerted of danger. This brown mare had to be exhausted to fall asleep like this, in front of a complete stranger. Without any knowlege of the invidual Nimh kindly stood close by, filling her stomach with the lush grass and keeping an eye out. Why she felt the need to stand in guard she couldn't answer, but somehow it felt important.
Clouds altered in the sky as Nimh patiently waited. She had no real idea of how much time passed, but it felt like a long while. She slowly approached the other mare and keeping her guard not to get entangled if she decided to get lively and spring on her feet. Nimh reached for her shoulder for a gentle touch.
"Hey. It's time to wake up."

Her dreams were violent and frightening but that was nothing out of the ordinary. Blood was spilled, foals were slaughtered, parents were consoling one another and an island of flame. None of this was new, she'd 'seen' all of this before. Ba'yagu flashed in occasionally, leading a group of horses on a mysterious path that Obscura didn't recognize, and then everything would become incredibly bizarre after that, and her body filled with dread. Nothing good was coming, only fear and death. "Please save me." She whispered in her sleep, unaware of the mare that was keeping vigil over her. "If it is your will, I wish to be spared...though I will endure what I must." Obscura continued, until she felt something tangible touch her shoulder. Her weepy eyes had trouble opening again, the lashes stuck together with the constant mess that came from her failing eyes, but finally they untangled and stared at the figure, silhouetted by the sun that was overhead. "Wake up..." Obscura repeated, rolling over slightly, putting her feet under her, but not rising quite yet. "Are you here to save me? I have seen something terrible." Though she said it, her voice did not echo with some fear or urgency. It was said as if she was asking the location of the herd members, or what the stranger had last eaten. "Did the unicorns send you to me?"
Obscura finally got her legs under herself and wobbled to a standing position, looking around as if in slow motion. Everything seemed topsy-turvy and placing her hooves became a task in themselves. Perhaps if she hadn't of accidentally tried to cheat out the old witch's magic in her youth, she would have managed better, for her physical being was extremely fragile now, due to the risks she'd taken.

Nimh's ear flicked at the sound of the stranger's voice. She wanted to help, even though she didn't know what the problem was exactly. Her best guess at the moment would probably have been that the stranger had eaten something poisonous and was hallusinating because of it. Nimh sadly knew nothing about plants, but surely Olde would have members that would. Agonising over what to do with this horse and how to get her to a safer spot she looked around, as if waiting for someone to just pop up and tell her where to go. She knew the approxximate direction to the Olde City, where she suspected this mare should be taken to. Nimh avoided capitals and crowds of the herds, but Olde wasn't as frightening as for example Bachelors.
Nimh made room for the mare to get up, her mind going in circles. She was relieved that the mare finally asked a question that made sense... up until she asked about unicorns. Nimh sifted her weight uncomfortably. This bay mare seemed to think it was a natural question based on her tone, but for Nimh it was quite the curve ball. She didn't judge, but to her understanding the unicorns were long gone. Had the stranger made more sense, she would have probably inquired about it more, out of curiosity. Now she was left pondering what to answer. She could say no, which was of course the truth, but would this mare allow herself to be helped then? Would a little lie be so bad?
"Yes, I'm here to take you back to your herd. They need you", she replied after clearing her throat. She was completely winging it, as she had no idea what the other mare had seen. In reality or in her mind? She was afraid to ask.
"What is it that you saw, darling?" she then asked, wondering if this savior she pretended to be should have known such a thing. She took a little step closer, as the stranger didn't seem too steady on her feet and it would be more easy to keep her upright than to get her up again. Nimh was a sturdy horse and could certainly be leaned on. She was anxiously looking at the forelock-covered face of the other horse; this all made so little sense. And she was beginning to wonder if this stranger was able to see at all, and if not, how on earth was she supposed to get her anywhere in this condition.

Obscura knew nothing of the other mare's hesitance as she looked around, as if wondering where they were. Unicorns should know the topography of the land better than even she, Obscura wanted to assume, but perhaps if it had been a long time, even the Unicorns might get lost. "They need you." The strange mare's voice resonated in her ears, the word 'need' ringing more than it should have, echoing in her brain. She was needed - she was necessary, the time had come when she could finally fulfill her own prophecies. But how? In her weakened state, and dizzy as she was, placing one foot that felt full of lead in front of the other was particularly challenging. "I will always be available, at the mercy of the Unicorns. Their desires are mine." Obscura whispered, finally looking at Nimh, perhaps seeing another horse for the first time and registering that.
The dappled bay mare felt the other slide closer to her, and easily let her shoulder droop on to the other's, allowing Nimh to bear some of her weight. This seemed to take some of the dizziness away, and she felt herself moving toward the city, which was hidden over a hilly rise. The other's soft voice met Obscura's ears again, and she breathed in sharply, shaking her head. "I have seen too much - destruction and war. There are dark days ahead of us, and I loathe to say it, but the Unicorns may not save us." She said with a shiver, as if touched by some dread cold, though the sun was peeking through the clouds now and her dark back was exceedingly warm. "How did they come to you? Did you know where to find me?" Obscura asked in a whisper, sinking back into delirium, though she was on the edge of clarity before.

Nimh struggled slightly to match her naturally long gait to the other mare's more droopy stepping. She tried her best to keep her shoulders steady and easy to lean on, taking shorter strides and quickly matching any changes that might indicate tumbling. Her grey ear was pinned on the stranger; she didn't speak that loudly and Nimh felt it was important to at least try to understand. Despite her fairly young age she had seen a lot and been to a lot of places, yet this was something else. She had never met anyone that so firmly believed in unicorns. Even though the dappled bay could have been dangerous in her hallucinations if she was in a stronger state, nothing about her had the alarms ringing in Nimh's head. And she was fairly easily alarmed, given her Loner life.
Nimh felt a little bit bad for manipulating this stranger, unicorns apparently meant everything to her. Yet if she was to get her to safety, this might be the only way - if only she could keep at it. With the words of darker times a little cold weight settled to Nimh's stomach. The situation of the herds had seemed bleak already, what if everything was to get even worse? Nimh sure was glad she had the choice to step aside, even though she was very bad at doing just that.
She hadn't expected such a sharp question, and for a moment she was lost for words. How exactly did unicorns come to anyone? She tried to figure out the best possible way to get around this subject. "It was more of an omen, really. I knew I was needed here, maybe our faiths were meant to intertwine." She hoped it made more sense to the other mare than to herself. She kept her gaze at the ground, trying to avoid anything one could stumble upon.
"What's your name? I'm Nimh."

"Faiths?" Obscura repeated gently, seeming very confused suddenly, and pausing from her walking, looking at Nimh with a slight bit of skepticism in her face, as she seemed to realize the falter in the story. Something twinged in her brain, sending flashes of something dark and violent, and she shook her head to get rid of it. She needed to be 'awake' now, as present as she would ever get. It was a constant struggle before, but now it seemed to be even worse. Obscura felt that she had almost seen reason, almost seen the division of reality and fantasy, the now and the future, but it slipped away again and blurred like everything else. As she was paused, the dappled bay mare looked around with her weeping blue eyes, trying to figure out where she was, and exactly how she had gotten here. It smelled familiar, and the city was on the horizon. They just needed to get back to the city, and then she would be safe. But who, exactly, was they?
Nimh, apparently. A horse that did not seem familiar, either in actuality or in her head. She was a stranger, and while Obscura didn't usually shy away from strangers, she was feeling a bit on edge right now, and the slip of Nimh's tongue had sent her hurdling back to the present. "I'm Obscura. I'm an adviser in the Olde herd." Perhaps it wasn't her smartest move, but strategy had never been her strong suit. She liked to think the best of everyone she met until they proved otherwise, as Obscura had faith that she would be kept from harm until the Unicorns did not need her in this life anymore. "I've just discovered my true Gift, and it is...hard." She said, wincing as if it had prickled in her brain again, willing her back to sleep, willing her 'sight' to occur once again. She had failed her body earlier in life, and now it seemed that it was hurting her further. "I don't know who you are, but if you would help me to the city..." Obscura trailed off, staring into the distance, lost in thought. What would happen there? No reward. It was likely no one realized she was missing. Even as an adviser, she didn't often keep the company of others.
Something stirred in her vision as she looked away from Nimh and into the grassy plains, but it was hard to tell if it was her mind 'glitching' or if it was something she truly saw. Taking a deep breath, Obscura caught the scent of Nimh, a foreign being, the high summer grass, and...something else. Something that didn't belong.
