She could hear voices behind her, muted out from the squelching of her hooves in the mud. She hardly knew what they were saying though, she had little care anyways. She had to make sure that Lotus was alright and at the moment that was the only thing on her mind. She was getting closer, enough so that she could see the shapes better as they lay in the mud. They were so still. Please don't be dead. Please. It was a plea more than a prayer, one of desperation. Oh goodness. She didn't know what she would do if they were. Then there was movement and soon a body stood. It was Lotus! She's alive! She didn't look the greatest, but after a hit like that she wasn't surprised. Did any of the others know anything about medicine? What if she was badly injured? She shouldn't be moving, let alone standing. She was about to call out to the mare when the huge body that had run into her pulled himself to his hooves. Niya gave an inward sigh of relief that both of them were alright... but that didn't last long.
Before she knew it the massive equine threw himself at the already battered Lotus with such force she was afraid they would end up in the mud again. What was going on? Something wasn't right. Why would an equine attack another mare without reason? They weren't even in war at the moment. Suddenly she realized that he had hit her on purpose. The crash she had witnessed from afar had been far from an accident. But why?! Her eyes widened, her gait stammering as she considered what to do. What was she talking about? A fellow mare was being attacked. She needed help! "HEY! LEAVE HER ALONE!" Niya screamed from the top of her lungs as she continued racing toward the two mud-covered bodies. Her usually soft, quiet voice carried boldly across the dreary land, sounding nothing like the shy mare she really was. It surprised even her. Her voice was deceptive though. It sounded fearless and bold, when internally she wanted to vanish and disappear where no one would find her, hide in her mother's gentle, reassuring hug, safe with her step-father watching over them. That wasn't her reality right now though, and she fought the images away, keeping focused on the present. She was running clear into a fight. What was she thinking? She could get hurt... or worse. For a split second the heavy drag of the mud faded and it was as if she were running on air. Surprised she glanced down to see that her hooves were fading through the mud untouched, as if it weren't even there. That's right! Her gift from the witch! She had known it would come in handy, but never this much so. Suddenly realizing that if she willed it the monster wouldn't even be able to touch her she ran on with new courage, and new speed thanks to the lack of suction under her hooves, flying toward the two horses. She was so absorbed in her need to help the other mare that she didn't even notice the other mysterious figure not too far off from the scene of the crime.
She would have glanced back to see if the other horses were following. Certainly by now they had realized something was not right, right? She couldn't allow herself to take her eyes from before her though, afraid that either she would fall on her face, or that the two horses she so quickly raced toward would disappear the moment she looked away... almost as quickly as this stranger had appeared. Almost there. She thought to herself as she willed her long legs to carry her faster and faster, not allowing them to be tired. Please, don't be far behind. She mentally called to the horses that she had so foolishly run away from.
... And then suddenly she was too close. With only a few more galloping strides standing between her and Lotus' attacker, Niya's heart jumped to her throat once more. The distance that had clouded her vission now gone she could see every detail, from the blood on both of them to the look of pure rage in the eyes of the beast. Suddenly she realized just how massive the animal was... and how outmatched she was. What had she been thinking?! Just as before she came to a sliding stop, putting so much effort into halting her motion that her hind end sat in the mud. Her sides heaved from the run as she skittered back to her hooves, staring wide-eyed at the monster and poor Lotus. She opened her mouth to say something, but no words came to her. She was frozen in the fear of the sudden realization of just how serious this situation was that she had just blindly ran into.

What was going on? Grange could barely keep up with the crazy amount of motion around him. First, he noticed Casper comforting her son, while he tried to process Sheva's order to let the running mare go. He wondered if it was because she really wanted the grey streak to go free, or if worry for her own son pushed reason out of her head. Whatever Sheva was thinking, her tone was so strict and clear that Grange daren't argue with it.
So much was happening so quickly. As soon as Grange had processed Sheva's orders, there was a flock of horses to Abel's side, welcoming the stallion back into their ranks, checking him over. All seemed well for the moment. But that was an ideal quickly shattered. Grange's eyes strained as he saw turned around, checking on the fleeting shape of the runner. She was down. What, she was down? Soon, she was back on her feet, but something was wrong. There was a strange stallion attacking her. Grange watched in horror as the pair fought, trying to comprehend what he was seeing. He could not place the newcomer. Before Grange could wonder about it any longer, another horse appeared. Where were they coming from? Thin air? Snorting, Grange turned on his heel, cantering towards the unknown horses, keeping cautiously close to the main group.
Grange would have liked to watch the newcomers from afar, learning what little he could about them before plunging into a fray. But no, one of the stupid mares had to ruin it. Niya, that was her name. The gray mare charged towards the mysterious stallions, bellowing for them to leave Lotus alone. Snorting, Grange pushed himself into a gallop, covering the ground between himself and the bold mare quickly; he knew that if he didn't come to her aid, she was going to be faced with two rogues to fend off by herself. As a guard to the group, Grange couldn't let that happen.
Skidding, he pulled up next to Niya, pinning his ears back. He bared his teeth, rearing up. If these stallions wanted to beat up on the mares - even Lotus the deserter - they were going to have to fight him.

"Don't joke about grassbeasts dear, you should apologize to Felicity and Melia." Casper nickered to Icarus, though she was still distracted by everything happening around her. She could hear Abel and the others a little bit away, and if she squinted she could see the group that had gone to retrieve him. Turning her attention to the two fillies her son had teased she called to them as well, "Perhaps you should stick by us as well dears." She hoped her worrying would come to be for nothing, but that was starting to look less and less likely by the second.
"Let her go too, keep searching for Klaus." Casper kept her gaze out into the distance, but swiveled her ears towards Sheva when she spoke. She wanted to argue, surely they couldn't just leave the two mares to their fate? They had to send someone out there..."No, follow me everyone!" Now the palomino was concerned. She would usually trust Sheva and her judgement, but right now the other mare seemed to be compromised --emotionally at least-- by everything that was taking place. Even so she knew the only thing that could possibly make things worse right now was for their group to be even more separated...but then again, taking Icarus towards some unknown danger...
"You go ahead," She whinnied to Sheva, "I'll stay behind with with the younglings." She didn't word it as a question, nor as a suggestion; because it was neither. Casper was not running blindly into trouble with her baby --and others' babies-- in tow. It just wasn't going to happen.

Sheva started for the commotion, as Grange raced off in front of her, nearly out of view as the sleet came crashing down, piercing into the earth and continuously pelting the horses' flesh. Even the sparse trees gave no coverage, as they were small and spindly things, which quivered in the deluge rather than offered any sort of shelter. In the flashes of moonlight, she could see occasional glimpses of silhouetted bodies, having risen from the ground and returned to battle. Her heart felt as if it were in a vice as she realized that the smaller of the two was likely Lotus. Niya's command only confirmed her suspicions, and the need to go was imminent. "Group together!" Sheva barked, using the tone she might have done when Abel was just a babe, or the rest of her rather large brood. Mother henning was old hat to the mare, and that's what she needed to treat this as, rather than a mission for Cain. All of these horses were but babies to her, as aside from Miles, her eldest was older than all of them.
Sheva checked on Abel, to be sure that he was still able to assist, and shouted to Miles "Go ahead and support Grange, the rest of us should stick together." Visibility was waning as the clouds pressed in closer, and the shadows of those fighting were gone. Any other horses that were out there, friendly or not, were all but sucked into the night, turned into shadows. Cas's voice pierced through the night, causing Bat-Sheva to look in her direction, where at least her form was slightly visible. Sheva's ears flicked down, and she snorted. "Come with me, foolish girl, you are but a youngling yourself." She said, in not an unkind tone, but a weary one. "I am not leaving you and these babies in the darkness, when we don't know what, or who else is out there. Together we are safer, and I want you close - all of you. I am not leaving Lotus to be torn up by a crazed stallion, either." Sheva was willing to let the slave brood spread her wings and fly home, but this was not what she was anticipating. Though she did not get nearer to the other mare, her crimson eyes were narrowed dangerously. "You may disobey me if you wish, but I will not let you take Melia and Felicity down with you. Now come on."
She was conflicted, but now was not the time. Cain had asked her to take these that she feared for away, and by the Unicorns, that was what she had to do. It was time to stop wallowing in her insecurities, and shed her fears. Her striped hooves sunk into the earth as she made sure Abel had the capacity to follow. If there was any of them that she would never leave behind, it was him. The time to beat herself up about her poor decision on Lotus was coming, but it certainly was not in this moment.

Lotus could hear him breathing, thick and heavy. The bursts of light were clearing now, and she could make him out, a large stallion, much larger than she was. He was dark and thick, with a murderous look in his eyes. It sent a wave of fear and nausea sweeping down her back, but she stood firm. If she was going down, she wasn't doing it on his terms. If she died today, she died fighting.
He lunged at her and she swept sideways, but not quickly enough. His teeth clamped around her crest and she let out a pained yelp. She managed to avoid the leg that threatened to pin her down, to hold her firm, give her no wiggle room and no chance of escape. She shook her neck violently, wrenching free with a tearing of flesh, and leapt backwards, rearing up and stabbing her sharp hooves at his face, aiming directly for his eyes. She whirled around and threw her back hooves out, throwing everything into a kick aimed at the nape of his neck -- she didn't hold back this time, not like she had with Abel. This time she fought to maim and kill, just like the bigger stallion. He clearly had no intention of going easy on her. She let out a frustrated howl as she struck home, feeling flesh connect with her hooves. And then a second voice cut through their grunts and gasps of battle.
She couldn't control herself; her eyes flicked towards the voice in a moment of ill judgement, letting her guard down for a split second. She blinked away what was left of the glaring lights in her eyes, and snarled at the second stallion. "What, it take two of you to bring down a feeble little mare?" she asked, her attention back on her attacker. She never knew when to keep her mouth shut -- despite all the blood she was loosing, all the pain that rushed through her, numbing her, she never knew when to call it quits.
She heard the shrill cry before she saw the mare. She'd never been so relieved in her life -- and then so panicked. She didn't know Niya, other than for a few seconds in the last few hours. She wanted to say she was selfless enough to ward the mare off. But she wasn't; she was only human after all, panting hard and bleeding heavily. A grin slid over Lotus' lips. She wasn't alone.
And then Niya skidded to a stop, gaping like a child, panicked and terror stricken. Lotus' heart dropped. So much for the big, grand rescue. She was furious -- at herself mostly, for believing anything good could happen. She let out a trumpeting bray, all blind fury, and threw herself at the big stallion, snapping her vicelike teeth at the crook of his neck. She was going to tear out his stupid throat and turn it into mud boots. Everything about her was furious and betrayed, and it coursed through her veins in a dangerous second wind. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw a grey streak, heard the pounding of hooves racing toward her, but she wouldn't make the same mistake again. Nobody was going to save her but her.

The wind turned and blinded Melia’s field of vision, but it did not stop the guards or Bat-Sheva to run into action. Abel was out there and he needed help – possibly the grey brood too? But Sheva dismissed any order of following the mare, who had presumably already managed to cover a lot of land away from them. The group split up in the end instead, as a result of all the turmoil and with the mission to find Abel.
Melia stayed loyally beside Felicity though, hoping that their adoptive mother and the stallions would make it back soon. The wind was taunting her ears and pulling her wet mane, all the while sleet hit her eyes repeatedly. Like a windbreak did Melia keep close to the fellow filly and kept her safe from the worst of the cold, but not without shivering herself. Standing still in the mud did no good for the body heat, but as long as she remained with Felicity it was endurable.
“Don’t stand there by yourselves, you’re grassbeast bait!” ringed in Melia’s ears and she whirled around, having completely forgot that not everyone had followed Abel’s trail. Even that quiet, roaned brood had took off – to help the search?
The invitation to stay with Casper and Icarus sounded like a good plan though. She should not have been this distracted; it could have endangered hers and Felicity’s safety. Ending up lost in this weather and mist would have been terrible, considering the situation at hand. Even if they would have stayed put, it was already hard to see where the rest of the group had run off to.
“It’s okay, Felicity. You take care of the grassbeasts and I take care of Icarus!”, Melia jokingly said and nudged the younger filly gently, before she made her way to the small party of a mother and a son. Moving away from their original line, it became harder to see where the missing members were. It did not help the fact that their coats became excellent camouflaged in the scenery of mud, mist and rain – as opposed to the brighter hairs of palomino on Casper and pinkish roan on Melia. Hopefully their bright coats would not attract grassbeasts, Melia thought nervously behind her grinning façade.
Things continued to unravel in the dark however. Sheva re-organized the search party to follow the happenings further away, whatever they were, and soon a yelp was heard in the distance, bringing chills down Melia’s spine. Another voice was heard, screaming at someone to ‘leave her alone’. What was happening over there? Melia was worried, of course, but not inclined to find out. Paranoia made her tremble – maybe it was grassbeasts?
But Bat-Sheva had specifically said that everyone was to follow and her vague, spotted shape had made itself known in the distance, enough for Melia to identify her and hesitantly join her and the others. However, Casper responded by saying she would stay with the young ones. Melia felt conflicted and stopped before she had even put her first hoof down. Did that mean they should stay too? But Bat-Sheva had said-
“You may disobey me if you wish, but I will not let you take Melia and Felicity down with you. Now come on.”, Sheva reprimanded across the field and irked Melia to run to her, but her ears twitched in doubt. A crazed stallion was attacking Lotus, the grey mare? Was- Was there more of those stallions?
As much as the thought of moving towards a hostile stallion – Was it Klaus? – had Melia quiver, her hooves walked forward. The bigger group sounded safer to her and she could not leave her ‘mama’ alone. But if she left Casper and, evidently, Icarus behind, how safe would they be? Casper was not many years older than Melia, after all.
Melia furrowed her brows and eyed Felicity pleadingly; all the while she took another step forward and waited for the young filly to join her side. Melia looked at Casper too, expecting her to come with them.
“Are you coming?”, Melia said softly, not only asking Felicity but Casper and Icarus both. They would have to hurry if they were to join the others, she could hear them gallop from afar!

Abel
Abel let himself be pulled into Shevas neck hug, allowing him the feeling of safety like once when he had been a colt and his mother had taken him like this after a fall. If foals fall, they have to straightened and hugged and he had fallen. While his neck was bent around Shevas he saw Niya running too and suddenly his irritated mind snapped back into place. He pulled away from his mother as she at the same moment whipped around and they both followed her with their eyes. Was she running? And then while Sheva yelled commands and Grange raced after Niya, the mare skidded to an halt and Abel saw dark figures moving. IT MUST BE LOTUS! Angry and betrayed he wanted to chase after Grange towards Lotus, but his mother yelled commands that reminded him of his young years when he had been wildly tangled with Isaac or Tobi.
Abel nodded "yes mother i am alright." He prodded muzzle at her once again, before he glanced back to the turmoil. Something was off there and heard yelling sounds, fighting. It was Lotus. He needed to help her! Could it be? Had she just ran into Klaus or some beast? He wanted to follow Grange , but his mother ordered Miles instead to assist him. Torn between the situations he frantically looked from Casper and the youngsters, towards the thinly illuminated silhouettes in the dark. It was just Sheva, Casper and the little ones. He could't abandon them, they were is family. He couldn't abandon them for some mare that had never valued his trying, merely using him for her escape, betraying him. He narrowed his eyes angry and turned his head towards Casper and his adoptive sister and little half-orphan Felicity. As Sheva ordered Casper to group together with them, he yelled towards them, "Melia, Felicity come here immediately. This isn't a game and you two belog with us and now swing your little hooves next to me!" His voice sounded angry but the truth was, he was concerned and afraid for the little fillies that belonged to his family. With a stern look he looked into his mothers intense, crimson eyes. He had her same intense and bright eyes, just in another color. "Are we following them now? I can move, lets go. I will stay with you, I promise!"

‘Like I said to Abel…they’ll be on my side and I’ll send them on your big round butt too if you keep joking about grassbeasts!’
‘It’s okay, Felicity. You take care of the grassbeasts and I take care of Icarus!’
Icarus stuck his tongue out at the two fillies, teasing him as he had just teased them. He was about to reply when his mother spoke up, reprimanding him and suggesting he apologize. The little colt shook his head at the thought. Clearly he had been playing around and the girls understood that, but obviously things were not what he was thinking. He took a deep breath and faced the older younglings. “I’m sorry.”
While his son was apologizing, Miles got the order to run up ahead and join Grange, as the champagne had run past the group moments before. With a quick nod, Miles followed Sheva’s orders and turned towards where all the commotion was starting up. Just as he was about to leave, Casper’s voice carried on the wind, suggesting that the foals would be safer with her at a distance. Sheva was quick to reply, and Miles quietly agreed with the older mare. With the sleet getting harder, it would be best to stay with the group regardless of the danger. At least they would be near one another and not get lost in the storm, which could be detrimental for the group.
He was willing to go and get his family, along with the girls, but Abel beat him to it, calling out to the fillies. For a moment, Miles felt a twinge of annoyance that Abel didn’t call for Casper or Icarus, but it was brief and understanding replaced it. “Cas! Don’t argue with Sheva. She’s in charge, and if she thinks it’s safer all together, so be it. Please! I don’t want you lost in this weather.” He called, hoping this would sway his mate.
“I’m heading off, forgive my delay. I just want to make sure they’ll be okay too…”
Miles charged ahead, hoping his decision to wait wasn’t a bad one. The sleet hitting his pelt was cold as he picked up speed. At least if he needed to use his gift he could attempt it. The ice and water mix would be his fuel, and he quietly wished he had trained more. Shaking his head, he cleared any unwarranted thoughts. He needed to focus, as he was probably heading into a fight.
The shadows ahead turned into shapes as Miles picked out multiple shapes. Huh, that was odd. The one closest to him was most likely Grange, and the one that was just rushing into a fight head on must’ve been Niya due to the shadow’s tall, but slim appearance. He was disturbed by the scene of a larger equine form beating on a smaller one, followed by another body coming into view that he didn’t recognize. As he got closer to Grange, Miles built up some courage. He narrowed his eyes as multiple orbs of water lifted from the ground next to his moving legs, leaving behind dry dirt and ice. With a quick swing of his head, the orbs shot out from next to him, over Grange and Niya. He was aiming at the large form and the other horse he didn’t recognize; hopefully this would get a message across.
Icarus pinned his ears back as Abel ordered the fillies to him, and brushed his head against his mother’s legs. “Daddy called for us…are we going too?” he asked, relying on his mother for decision to be made.

Niya felt her legs tremble as she watched Lotus fight off the huge horse on her own, guilt tearing away at her from the inside out. She couldn't tell if it was the run through the mud, the cold, or fear that made her tremble so, but she disliked it either way. I'm sorry. She thought toward the mare. If she could help she would, but she had no knowledge in fighting at all. She was useless. Where are the others?
Just as this thought crossed her mind though hooves thundered by her and the next thing she knew a light colored horse was rearing in defense. A light breath of relief escaped her lips. She'd never been so happy to see a bachelor stallion. At last, they were coming! She could hear the yells behind her somewhere. Her heart was beating too loudly in her ears to know what they were saying but she knew they were coming. The stallions were strong! They grew up their whole life fighting. They could take this brute. He wouldn't stand a chance on his own against everyone else. She had her to notice the dark, shadowy figure that lingered nearby.
More hooves came running and Niya craned her neck to see who. Narrowing her eyes she waited until the shape would come into focus. Before it did so something came flying from it right past her. Eyes widening Niya jumped to the side, though it was then that she realized they had not been aimed at her but at the other horse. Reassured that Lotus would be safe she backed up several steps, moving out of the way from the fight so she wouldn't cause any trouble, her head lowering in quiet shale that she could do nothing.

Grange squinted, trying to see through the darkness of the night and the heavily driving sleet. Curse the sleet! It was sticking to his coat, forcing icy shivers down his spine, and it had begun balling up in his hooves, drastically affecting his speed and agility. Those were his two best - possibly his only two - assets when it came to fighting. Grange usually got himself out of sticky situations by using his brain and his body together. But now he only had his mind; the weather was not going to allow him the pleasure of utilizing his skills today.
It seemed as though Lotus may not have even needed help; the mare was holding her own, until the rogue gripped her neck, and she was only freed by tearing a long rent in her flesh. Grange winced sympathetically, as he analyzed the scene before him, trying to find a good attack strategy. What he saw was that Lotus was not as strong as she appeared; she had wanted Niya's help so badly - it showed on her face - and the other mare had frozen up short. Grange couldn't blame Niya, though. She had tried to help. At least she had come to her senses; two injured mares were not necessary.
Grange didn't know if Sheva would send help or not; he couldn't hear her orders to the group over the sleet and sounds of Lotus and the strangers fighting. But he knew he couldn't wait idly by for help. With a piercing cry, the champagne horse threw himself forward, snapping at the intruders. He only hoped Miles would be close behind.
And he was! Orbs of water whizzed past Grange, aiming for the attacker. If Grange had believed in the unicorns, he could have kissed one just then. With Miles (and a gift that was actually useful in battle) there, they stood a chance.

Several things happened within a span of a few moments after she suggested staying behind. Casper had expected a reprimand from Sheva, she had explicitly stated she was going to disobey orders after all, so she was hardly taken aback by the older mare's scolding. But she hadn't expected Abel's harsh look, nor the sound of her mate calling out to them to follow. Did nobody else think running towards the crazed stallion --in a group or not-- was a bad idea?
Snorting in distaste at the whole situation, her attention was drawn away from the adults when her son spoke up. "Daddy called for us...are we going too?" He asked from where he was still standing under her. Heaving a sigh, Casper looked back out into the darkness; anxiety twisting her insides. There were two options for her now it seemed --stay behind with Icarus and maybe get attacked by what's out there, or move ahead with the group and maybe get attacked by what's out there. She didn't like either option, but it was all she had to work with.
"Yes, we'll go find daddy." She said, reaching down to nuzzle the top of her son's head before she looked back up meeting Sheva's gaze unflinchingly before they set off again. "Stay close." She murmured to Icarus for the second time that day, keeping the colt on her right side; if anything decided to attack them from her blind left side, then they would have to go through her before they got to him. She just hoped it wouldn't come to that --she wouldn't be able to forgive herself if anything happened to Icarus.

The snow beneath her hooves was red, her greying pelt dappled with blood stains and mud. She was panting, but she couldn't slow down. She had decided that she wasn't going to die today. She weaved and swerved, avoiding hits as they came. Each step she took seemed to span centuries: it was like the whole world was slowed down. She could hear the voices of those she'd left behind, growing louder as each step brought them closer. She blinked back tears, fought back the urge to curl up into a ball and succumb to the pain and the cold. She paid brief attention to her peripherals, not daring to take her eyes off of her opponent, but hunting all the same for anyone else. She caught sight of a few blurred figures running through the sleet, made small and colourless by the bad weather. She lunged backward, out of her opponent's reach, took a few more quick steps back to see if he would follow. Her sides were heaving; the world was starting to swim, but she fought to clear her head. Concentrate. She backed up further, trying to catch her breath, trying to avoid him, if only for a moment. She was fast, but he clearly had the upper hand where strength was concerned, and the loss of blood was tiring her out and slowing her down far more quickly. It was so frustrating, she could have screamed. But she saved her energy.
She charged at him, head tucked in, ready to ram him square in the chest and then -- an earth shattering ululation broke her concentration, and she veered quickly to the side. Was this the other one?! Had he finally decided to do more than stand there and watch? Her head snapped sideways to see, to confirm or debunk her fears. Her eyes fell briefly on Grange, but she quelled her hopes, returning her attention to her opponent instead, beating at him with her strong hooves. She wouldn't make the same mistake; 'fool me twice, shame on me.' For all she knew, he was there to watch, just like Niya. To watch her loose.
A ball of something came flying through the air, aimed at the stallion. Only then did she allow even the smallest bit of relief to wash over herself. Maybe there was hope, after all.

Sheva nodded at his apology - it didn't matter who it was that Cas listened to, just that she listened. The older mare was surprised that the one-eyed palomino really wished to be by herself in the dark, and that was something she just couldn't abide by. Relief washed over her as Melia broke and started toward her side, as Sheva met the other's in the middle of their separation before turning the group North toward the muffled sounds of disarray, the grunting of exertion, the inky darkness. The sleet was not letting up either, and by this point, all who had been running were caked in mud and even stray clumps of grass that had been lifted by their driving hooves. Being a horse's length away was the only true way to see who one was with. Sheva touched noses with Melia, and looked up at the approaching form of Casper with the spindly-legged colt beside her. I'm saving you and your son. Don't fight me on this, please, unless you like suffering. Sheva thought as she watched Casper herd Icarus toward them grudgingly, her face set in disapproval. Sheva tried to think back when she was that young, she had just had Ze'ev and was pregnant with Isaac and Ishmael. What would she have done? Sheva sighed. What she thought was best. Her ears flicked back to turn their attention to Abel's words, he was intent. "I know you will, baby." Sheva murmured in response to him, before flicking her head up toward the commotion. "Now let's go." She moved at a seemingly-leisurely lope, not out of lack of compassion for the guards and the mares, but concern for everyone keeping up. With babies following along, and her wounded son, she did not want to leave anyone behind.
Though it seemed like eternity, it was only minutes until they were on the commotion, coming up as Miles shot orbs of water at Lotus' attacker. Sheva approached from behind the two guards, signaling for Cas and the little ones to stay back now that they were at least within sight and sound of Grange and Miles, but imploring her son with her eyes to approach. Every hair on her body was raised with anticipation, with fear. What was she walking into? Her gut clenched, remembering the last moment she was surrounded by so many stallions - it was how she had earned her scars. Bat-Sheva had grown from that, though, and she knew that hesitation at this juncture could cost lives. As she approached, the slinging of mud and the coppery scent of blood was somewhat unsettling, and it took a while for her eyes to focus. She felt an immediate stab of shame straight to her heart as she looked on the hulking figure, though she couldn't be sure of who it was. Something about him, his scent, his manner, seemed awfully and painfully familiar.

The mare's frenzy of hooves and gnashing of teeth caught him good a few times, sending his blood spraying across the mud, quickly mixing in with the sleet and the earth. Her first jab had caught his brow, her hoof slicing into the flesh there, but gratefully missing his eye. However, the blood pouring from the wound instantly blinded him for the moment, and he let out a guttural bray of rage. Her hind hooves came around and caught him square in the throat, causing him to cough and sputter, dancing backwards. The pause allowed his mind to wrap around his companion's orders. More are coming It was time to compose himself, as disappointing as it was. His leash had been yanked, though the mare was right in front of him, taunting him. Indeed, then, there was another voice, a shrill one calling for him to leave her alone. He laughed, a cruel and chilling sound. His olive eyes flashed back to his partner, willing for the go ahead, while the mare backed up and panted. He wanted it so bad, he wanted to feel the life drain out of her, his triumph. As she recovered, he cast his gaze around and saw the others approaching, heard the snap of teeth as another little mare-no, stallion, came rushing up. Disgust immediately surged in him, and the other's tether on him broke. The four diamonds on the stallion's face were enough to send him into a frenzy, as memory of the mare faded quickly. Here, this creature flaunting his arrogance, was the root of all the misery he ever felt. He felt the other's teeth bite into his flesh as the mare rammed him and the breath escaped him. As he expected, his partner just watched - he was above such nonsense, he did not need to be endangered, and the more came, the more frenzied the stallion became. He fought for air as he landed on his front hooves, and was pelted with a ball of water, though it seemingly bounced off of him. Water was useless in the face of the driving sleet that threatened to become hail.
The stallion lurched back and saw two others approaching, the scent of mare filling his nostrils once more. His teeth gritted as he intended to lunge for the newest one, shoving the smaller horses out of the way with his bulk, but as he made for it, his vision cleared enough and instantly his angered expression dropped. Rather, he suddenly appeared much like a kicked dog. His olive gaze was averted, his chest sunken, his adrenaline seemingly sucked out of him by her presence as he put his head down and backed away from the four that had come with her. "Mama, w-what are you doing out here? Isaac mumbled, looking to his companion, torn between the conflict of authority.

This was getting quickly out of hand. Isaac paused at his warning, but the bachelors did not. The Belgian mix looked to him for orders. As green eyes met bronze through the sleet, the stallion resisted the urge to smile. He hadn't seen a look like that in a long, long time.
As more horses approached, Isaac's companion did not have time to give the draft a shake of the head, much less a response. Miles wasted no time with identifying who exactly he was throwing his flashy water at. Isaac, who was closer, took the brunt of the bachelor's attack as if it was nothing. But it was not a fair fight; it was obvious that the bachelor stallions were defending the fleeing traitor, and Lotus was fighting back as well. This had to end. Isaac with his asset. His way in. His way back in.
"Stop!"
There was the sharp sound of boiling water as a column of flame leapt up into the air, vaporizing Miles' water bubble. The black stallion screamed, charging forward to stand beside Isaac, who looked rather subdued thanks to the arrival of his mother. It was quite a sight, seeing the Belgian who had just been fighting ferociously bowing like a beat foal at the sight of one mare. He glared at Bat-Sheva and snorted, lifting his head. "Stop this. You exercise obvious power here. If you value your sons' lives, and your own, tell them to stand down," the loner growled, so quietly that no one besides Sheva and Isaac might hear.
From where his head was craned high, the stallion cast his gaze at the horses assembled. He recognized them all accept a foal perched by Casper. Grange, Lotus, Miles, Sheva, Abel... Klaus made out their forms through the sleet. This was only the beginning.
