Welcome to Exile Plot 004 : Restoring the Land
Plot: Though the grasses seem a little greener upon your return to Southern, there is still much work to be done to the land. While your group's leader has an exceptional sense of the land and can actually effect the fertility and substances within it, they cannot do it alone. Your horses are tasked with clearing the land, and feinting off anything else that may think this land is theirs as well. . .
Setting:
The sun has just begun to rise over the last growths of green remaining here on the Southern Isle. Your group has just diverged from the others, having wished the guards and scouts sent out to fight the beasts farewell the night before. As you look out over the Ash Plains, it seems like a foggy dust cloud has grown accustom to it's place over the horizon line, blocking some of the light, but is not thick enough to be dangerous to breathe.
Team Captain: Natalie (DancingOrbi)
Team Members: Venus
Yonne
Amblyn
Judah
Checkpoints Reached: None
Rules: 1. The Captain of the team must post first 2. A posting order must be kept as people enter the rp. 3. No god modding 4. React to the Checkpoints as they come! (If you don't know what a checkpoint is - don't worry - you'll know when they come!) 5. Communicate with your partners! 6. Have fun!!!!
How the posting order works:
Natalie must post first, then anyone can post after him. They can post back and forth until someone else posts, when someone else posts they must be entered into the posting order. For example: Ryder Fay Ryder Fay Jack Kasier Ryder Fay Jack Kasier Kayden
And so on. This means you do not have to wait for someone to join, but once they do their first post you must wait for them.

Natalie:Home, a place she had hoped to once again return to and truly she had come back to the southern island. Where so many fond memories had been made including the bad ones. Here where a fire took so much from the horses who lived here but while the fire had scared the land it seemed the land had fought back. Where it seemed the grass had been dull was now bright and healthy to the point that even the other plants slowly were coming back to life. All it needed was a push to help it all along the way. But, they would have to wait for a part of this land needed the help much more. The Ash plains, truly the biggest scar left on her home. It harbored so many deaths in it dull gray grasps. Natalie doubted many believed it would ever be green again but she believed it would be something far more beautiful all they had to do was help it long the way. Her gift would truly be the help the land needed to once more grew. Standing just out of the reach of foggy dust cloud that had made its home over the Ash plains, Natalie stood there looking over the land watching the stillness that seemed to just haunt the gray ash covered land. There was so much that would need to be done thankfully she wouldn't be going at it alone. A few had been tasked along with her to do this job even though many were still young she believed they would be capable. Closing her eyes she slowly turned to face the group who stood with her she smiled and opened her eyes to looked at each and every one of them. They all had been chosen by their leader Khala and Natalie herself had been chosen to captain the group. This was truly her first time so she wasn't quite sure on what to say to those of her team but finally she straightened herself. Standing tall or at least as tall as one of the shorter mare of the herd could , she spoke. "I believe the time has come to turn this ash into something green." Her tone was gentle, friendly and just a hint of excitement for the job at hand.

Venus drew her attention from the dusty horizon at Natalie's words, the land beyond her eerie with fog and morning mist. The new mare was distracted by what was beyond, her herd mates had described it to be with such awe and wholesome, and she felt so appalled at the feeling forming in her throat- but it was as it was, disappointment. They described it with such magnitude and glory, and this was just a plain of grey. She looked to the others, knowing not to express her first impression of their home. She just felt. . .so. . .sorry for them. And she wondered how they could even face this land with hope, for it looked so hopeless. Deep in her mind, Venus decided that this was nothing more than the start of her new beginning, for all of them. The place where she could forget her past and start over. Just like the land it's self she thought, drawing designs in the ground below her, beginning to bond with it. This is home now, and I should be grateful for this new beginning. After all, so few get one.

There was dust in the air and with every breath she took, Amblyn's mood worsened. Dust. Dust on her pretty mane and on her flank and in her eyes! She wouldn't be able to get rid of it unless she found a pool to bathe in and when did they ever find a pool not infested with ticks, flies, and assorted muck? No, she was stuck standing around feeling herself get covered by small bits of dirt while her fellow guards went off to fight. She'd been left behind to protect and cater to - and heaven forbid, help with - a bunch of glorified gardeners.
She glared at the ground, then at the horses around her. Even if it wasn't their fault, they were somehow involved and she didn't approve. That one guard she knew, Natalie, had some sort of earth gift, right? She probably had something to do with this mission being instated to begin with. Yes, this was definitely her fault. Somehow.
As she was pondering that, the mare in question spoke. "I believe the time has come to turn this ash into something green."
"I do not think the ashes want to be turned into something green. I say we leave them to their greyness and move to somewhere nicer."
A dainty little mare moved closer to the both of them and Amblyn snorted. "Knowing our luck, tilling the earth will break several legs and then leave us in a worse state than what we began with."
She glanced at the huge stallion not far off, tilting her head prettily. "Though some of us look like they could do all the work by themselves. It'd make the muscles bulge more, I guess."

Ah already it seemed one of them didn't seem quite as thrilled with the task at hand for them. Tipping her head to the side Natalie listened to the mares words and a small laugh came from her. "Oh, I am sure the ash would be happy to stay just where it is but see the earth wants to grow here. This land is our home, a place filled with memories of the good and the bad." She told the mare Amblyn who she did recognized from her role as a guard. The more dainty mare who she had watching drawing designs in the dirt she knew was newer and had not seen the real beauty that could be this land. Now than she turned back once more to Amblyn who seemed to have little faith in this gray dull land of ash would be anything more then just a dull land of ash. "I know it looks to be a hopeless case but I believe... no I know we can bring it back to life. Don't you want to see this land place which is so dull and lifeless become something wonderful and streaming with life again?" Natalie asked not just Amblyn but all of them. Her marbled eyes looking over each and everyone of their faces waiting to know for sure how they felt. Something like this was going to be work how could it not be. Everything in this world had to be worked for or you simply would be able to see it or get it.

The very thought that they would be able to return to their home excited Yonne so much by itself, she thought she would burst when she found out she was assigned to go back with a group to help the land grow back. Scouting by herself proved useless, but now they had a way home, and it was up to her and the group she was placed in to make their home once again livable. She absolutely couldn’t wait to get started, unable to sleep much at all during the days leading up to their departure. It couldn’t come fast enough.
When the day did come, she relished the journey across the land bridge, though the Isle in the distance was shrouded in dust. It was nothing short of a gloomy sight, but thanks to their assigned captain, Natalie, who had an incredible gift, Yonne knew they would succeed. It was hard keeping a steady pace, her spirited energy causing her hooves to dance with excitement as the ocean lapped against the bridge. To go home, and to get away from the sexist Bachelors and the uppity Oldes, back to where she belonged, the home she knew.
Although they traveled in near silence, it seemed to Yonne she was an air of determination that she herself shared. The sun was rising, and through the dusty fog she could see remnants of flora spotting the land. It gave her hope and she picked up the pace. The air was heavy, and she huffed to rid her surroundings of the airborne contaminants to no avail. She didn’t think about it at first, until she glanced behind her to see her beautiful white blanket being marred by settling dust. It was disgusting. She would need a bath after all was said and done. They had a job, and she would have to suck it up.
Before long, the group halted. She stared out at what was once her home, and she felt a twinge of pain. She would have to relearn the land, and she would miss what was lost. Blue hues turned to Natalie as she turned to face them, and she dipped her head respectfully, ears perked in attention. Yonne could imagine Venus’ gears turning, but was distracted when Amblyn replied. Everything about the mares tone of voice suggested disgust; the youth couldn’t exactly blame her. This area was truly the pits.
“That’s not true." Yonne started softly. "Did you see the leaves we passed by on the way here? Our home is fighting back, and we have a mission to help it make it’s glorious return.” The large, young mare lifted a hoof and was going to lower it dramatically, but decided against it; it would bring about a dust cloud of it’s own and she was sure that would sour poor Amblyns’ mood further.

Venus kept her eyes to the ground as the mares discussed further and nodded with Natalie's words. Amblyn's attitude unsettled the small mare, but against her wants, she said nothing. "Knowing our luck, tilling the earth will break several legs and then leave us in a worse state than what we began with." Amblyn stated, among other things, as Venus came closer. She cautiously looked around her to the others, all much larger and sturier than she, and she was deminished again into her own mind. Then Yonne spoke, and Venus didn't filter herself. "I agree with Yonne." Venus stated boldly, stepping closer to the group, "We need to work together, not discuss. We were chosen for this task by what ever force, and we need to carry it out." she continued before stopping, mouth open, full of unsaid words. He mind ran away with her words and she was suddenly self-conscious of what she had said. It wasn't her place to try and govern the actions of the group. She stepped back again with a shaky breath and bowed her head. She then looked over her shoulder where Moya had vanished over the horizon, seeming now to have taken Venus's confidence with her.

And now she was being laughed at! Amblyn scowled at the pretty guard. She'd spent too long fearing laughter to now appreciate it. And, frankly, nothing in this whole situation required such joy. They'd been selected, though several were more qualified for other things, to root around in dirt. Dirt, of all things. With their luck, they'd find rain in their path and soggy ground underneath their hooves. How Amblyn hated wet ground.
"Oh, I am sure the ash would be happy to stay just where it is but see the earth wants to grow here. This land is our home, a place filled with memories of the good and the bad."
Oh, please. Amblyn snorted. "If the earth wants to grow here so badly, maybe it should put in some effort. But no, we have to till the earth and waste time we should have used for more important things."
"I know it looks to be a hopeless case but I believe... no I know we can bring it back to life. Don't you want to see this land place which is so dull and lifeless become something wonderful and streaming with life again?"
Amblyn's long tail flicked about idly as she listened to the mare's fervent clamour for life. She was passionate, at least!
"Of course I'd like to see this land bountiful again. That's not what I'm questioning. What I'm questioning is my involvement in it."
"Did you see the leaves we passed by on the way here? Our home is fighting back, and we have a mission to help it make it’s glorious return.”
Another mare spoke, this one red, large, and very imposing. Amblyn didn't think she was prettier than her, but who knew these days?
"I do not often look for leaves," she commented. "If those leaves would hurry up and sprout without me having to muck about in the soil, however, I would be very pleased indeed."
The tiny mare with the awfully short tail - poor soul, Amblyn thought - spoke next. She looked like a fidgety sort. One Amblyn could break with one well-aimed kick. It made the haflinger mare feel slightly better.
"We need to work together, not discuss. We were chosen for this task by what ever force, and we need to carry it out."
Amblyn hissed sharply. "Discussion is healthy. I say we discuss some more instead of blindly following directions. Blindly following directions gets you stuck in quicksand, or worse."

Yonne was quiet, dipping her head to Venus thankfully when the mare agreed with her. Natalie finally spoke, and the youth was quick to look over at her. She was thankful for Natalie’s words, and further inspired by them. This place WAS full of memories, good and bad. But she focused more on the good. She was found by the Exiles, they let her in their herd. She grew up here. This was her home through and through, there was no doubt about that. Not to mention, her parents were, she inwardly hoped, still out there somewhere. She was sure if her parents were here, they found someplace the fire had not touched, they were too smart for that. She thought back on Natalies words, how they could bring the earth back to life. If they could come home quickly, to have green land once more, she would sacrifice her pelt; she could clean it afterwards, after all. No point staying by the Olde herd, they didn’t want them there, and the Bachelors were a no go. She snorted to herself at the thought, Over my dead body.
It was then that the golden mare spoke, causing Yonne to tense. She looked over at Amblyn, the tension the female gave off palpable in the air. It made Yonne wince ever so slightly, wondering what was eating her. The other mare looked none too impressed, and she didn’t feel the need to even be here. Yonne couldn’t understand it, it made her feel uneasy. Wasn’t home important to the mare? She inwardly sighed, thinking on it. Perhaps if she were really in Amblyns’ hooves, as she was right now, she would understand her better. Perhaps there was something else going on with the female, and Yonne felt she wanted to know. She paused, rolling her words over her tongue, picking them carefully.
“We were chosen for a reason, by our leader no less and to be lead by the gifted Natalie. We might not see the reason ourselves, but we are here now. So lets try to make the best of it, okay?” She nudged Amblyn gently with her nose. “Think of how happy the herd will be. We can do it. We will succeed and we will bathe in the light of our home once more.” She looked to Natalie for more instruction, hoping that the mare wasn’t about to kick her for the small gesture of affection. Whatever was eating Amblyn, Yonne desperately hoped that this journey would open the mares shell.

Natalie listened as the word were exchanged from each of the mares. Two of them showed passion for wanting to help bring this land back but still her fellow guard Amblyn worried her. She seemed so against helping rid the land of ash that it caused a long sigh to leave her lips. Closing her eyes as she thought over her words carefully. Each one of them had chosen to complete this task by Khala their leader. Trusting her judgement should have been something each member of the herd did but of course she knew that questioning this was a given as well after all she would have done so if this hadn't been something she believed that was indeed of up most importance. Opening her eyes to look at each and everyone of them. Natalie turned around to face the Ash plains her chest tighten a little knowing not what they would find among the ash but she took a step into it. Looking down at the ash Natalie dig her hoof into the ash and pulled it back removing small mound of ash, looking down it was very clear to her that the land was trying desperately to come back life but the ash seemed to suffocate it. Small blades of yellow grass laid in the place she had clear. "Look here, the land has been trying to grow on its own but this ash suffocates it just as it would do to us if we leave it like this." Looking over her shoulder now at them she searched their face before facing them once more. Lifting her head slightly when Amblyn responded to the young mare with words of blindly following direction. Natalie parted her lips and spoke. "As Venus has said each one of us was chosen for a reason while it may not be clear just yet what that is but keep in mind that I myself do not have a habit of blindly following directions. I took into account of everything that could happen out there. However, this task is for the good of our herd and for the land itself." Her tone was serious more so now then it had been at the very beginning. "As a guard you know that our duty is to protect the herd this task does indeed fall under this even if it is only clearing ash out of the way......."

With Natalie's words, Venus parted the group and passed the mare with a nod, leaving them to discuss of their own want. She lowered her head and inspected the ground. With her nose so close to the low, she smelled the fowl scent of the ashes mixed with the sweetness of new grasses. The mare took her small hooves and pushed away ashes, revealing amazingly small buds of grass. She turned back to the group with a small smile and walked deeper into the plain, feet easily covered by ash. Venus prodded for more signs of life, thinking back to what she learned from her scroll. She knew not of these specific grasses, but certainly if one plant could grow, others would follow. "Come help me clear away the ashes. There are buds seeking light here, but have yet to succeed." Venus called to the others, lifting her head up from below. She noticed dust on her snout and snuffed it off. Amblyn certainly wouldn't take part in something like that, so she thought of reason. "Work now for day of rest soon." she stated simply, as to not sound pointed in her words. Then she went back to shuffling the debris away, replacing the grey with a wholesome green-speckled brown.

This was going pear shaped rather quickly. It had been a while since she'd been surrounded by such unfailingly positive horses. They all wanted to work hard and grow plants and whisper soothingly to trees. It made Amblyn want to cry. This would take ages and while others were using their power for good, she was here. Watching soft smiling mares dote on the ground like it were a newborn foal. Maybe they'd start singing to it too. If they did, Amblyn was taking off.
“We were chosen for a reason, by our leader no less and to be lead by the gifted Natalie. We might not see the reason ourselves, but we are here now. So lets try to make the best of it, okay?”
Amblyn forced a grin. They were all so cheery and well-meaning. It made her teeth ache. If this mare wasn't so big and likely to stomp on her, Amblyn would probably have said something. Something mocking, because who would call someone with a green hoof gifted. Honestly. She'd seen people conjure fire out of nowhere and become invisible. Making a plant grow a tiny bit faster meant nothing.
Then she felt a nose nudge her and Amblyn shrunk back, eyes wide and nostrils flaring. "Excuse you. Please do not touch me, I don't know where that nose has been!"
Smudging the spot with her own nose quickly, she looked at it critically. She would probably be fine. And, hey, dirt would make her filthier. She could handle some second-hand mud.
“Think of how happy the herd will be. We can do it. We will succeed and we will bathe in the light of our home once more.”
"I do not question our ability to achieve this," she muttered, moving restlessly, "just my sanity's ability to deal with this chore. It is disgusting and I could have been doing more important things."
Now Natalie was sighing again. For a mare as pretty as she was, she seemed to find fault in the smallest things. Maybe they could get along after all!
"As a guard you know that our duty is to protect the herd this task does indeed fall under this even if it is only clearing ash out of the way......."
The haflinger mare snorted. Ah, yes, guarding the herd from ash. A valiant and rewarding task. "Are you saying I should guard the safety of those small shoots trying to peek out of the soil? In that case, we should leave because our hooves are the biggest threat to them."
She watched as the tiny mare - Varus? Venis? - moved ash around and poked her nose in it. It looked disgusting. She did unearth small spots of green, though, and Amblyn rolled her eyes. There was no getting around this. She wasn't nearly agile enough to carefully do this with her heavy hooves, though. She looked down at herself, then at the ash. "How about I blow at it from a distance?"
"Work now for day of rest soon."
"More like 'work now, spend the following weeks getting rid of the dirt in my hooves and sand up my nose.'"

Yonne’s ears twitched back at Amblyns discontent about the sign of affection, she figured as much it would happen. The mare was more vain than she was. It was at that moment she resisted the urge to look back at her tail. With the upper layers being pure white, she was sure they were ash grey by now. She inwardly whined, white was the absolute hardest to clean, especially her tail. Stifling a sigh, she perked up when she heard Natalie sigh. Blue eyes watched the leader of the group move after observing them all and look towards the plains covered in ash. The youth moved closer as Natalie pawed gently at the ground. A fore-hoof was lifted, before lowered as gently as she could. She wasn’t sure that she would be able to paw so delicately at the ground with her heavy hooves. Still, she would try, considering Venus had already started to, no pun intended, dig in. She perked her ears when Venus revealed the tiny life struggling to breath underneath. The mare had spoke, and she absently nodded in silent agreement to what she had said. It was going to be hard work, not to mention it will take a long time. The thought of rest was appealing, but they had yet to get through this day. She nodded once more, before looking to her hooves.
Biting her lip, the same hoof was raised once more, the edge tipped earthward as she gingerly pulled it across the ashen earth. By some miracle, she managed to draw back the thick layer of ash to reveal the newborn buds underneath, a vibrant yellow-green that filled the young mare with hope. Not a leaf was out of place. Even in the midst of such a disaster, their home fought back; it just needed some help. Unfortunately, Yonne’s confidence about her hoofing abilities stopped there. She didn’t want to risk ruining the new buds with her giant hooves. That was a fluke, after all, as she had crushed many a blade of grass when romping around. She wondered what she could possibly do to keep her hulking frame from being too disastrous on this already decimated land. Then a thought hit her, it was perfect, if not foolproof.
Turning to Natalie, and glancing at the gold mare, she got an idea that could also benefit Amblyn. She only hoped that the vain mare would not think it equally as disgusting. “Natalie, I’m not too sure about doing this with my hooves.” She lifted an ash caked hoof to state her point. Oh why did she look. It took everything she had to swallow her horror at her beautiful white feathers turned grey. After a moment's pause, she shook herself. “I’m going to go find a stick or something, I’ll be far gentler with that.” She turned and looked towards Amblyn, keeping her unease out of her features. “Would you like to join me? Perhaps we can find you a stick too, that way, you won’t have to dirty your hooves too much.” If Yonne had said that in any other tone than gentle, it surely would have come off as condescending. But luckily, Yonne understood vanity, and she couldn’t wait to jump into a lake herself.

Judah pawed lightly at the ash coated ground beneath him; occasionally he would dip his large head in order to blow ash away from a possible green patch, only to pull back with disappointment. Pausing in his movements, he glanced at his teammates; he felt like the odd man out in this situation. Being the only stallion in the group was only thing, but to make it worse he was the only Equerry in the group; practically just untrained foal! He didn't feel like he had earned any right to offer complaints or opinions to the team even if he had any. Especially with Amblyn in the group, she already seemed like she didn't want any part of this and she would more than likely judge him for not being out with the Equerries.
Dropping his eyes back to the ground he continued to scuffling about, he didn't understand what was so bad about the ash anyway. Sure it sucked when you inhaled wrong and it coated your nose and throat, but other than that there wasn't anything else to it. Judah flicked it tail in thought, maybe it was just a girl thing?

Natalie felt she finally was making some kind of progress with with her group. A smile came across her lips as she watched the young mare Venus follow her lead and start pulling away the ash from the buds. The little sprouts of green yellow buds were truly a blessing to found so many. Hadn't expected to find healthy one but the land was working as hard as it possibly could to grow. Even with this is encouragement of the others starting to clear away the ash she once more found her fellow guard Amblyn unthrilled with this task. Finally Natalie had figured out just what it was. The mare didn't want to get dirty. Dirt had never hurt anyone but then again she couldn't understand why it was problem to get dirty but then again dirt had never bother her and she always been happy to get her hooves a little dirty if it meant to could get a closer look at a planet. Titling her head to the side she study the mare for a moment only to have her attention drawn to Yonne when she spoke her name. Looking to the large mare Natalie looked down at the mare's hooves when spoke of them. Nodded she turned her eyes back to the mare's. "Yes, I understand a stick, one that is kind of flat would be a good choice." Natalie said to her. The stick was truly a good idea for it kept the ash out of nose and mouth, making it a lot easier to breath while they worked. Thinking to herself Natalie tried to work out away to make this a little easier while still remaining gentle to the thriving buds below. Maybe if they found a long enough flattish sticks they mind be able to pulled away the ash away in larges amounts. Turning to look over at young stallion and the Venus. "I think I have an idea but first we need to find a rather long flattish stick." Natalie said to them
