Welcome to Exile Plot 001 : Defending your Homeland
Plot: Upon returning to your homeland in the South, it is immediately clear that your land has been claimed by wild beasts. The lands lay scarred with their movements, and tracks are easily followed across the Last Green Land and into the Ash Plains. Your task is to track them all down and reclaim the land that is rightfully yours.
Setting: The sun is slowly setting over the ash plains, and the land is painted with deep, rich hues of crimson and marigold. Here on the Ash Plains, it seems like a foggy dust cloud has grown accustom to it's place over the horizon line, blocking some of the light, but is not thick enough to be dangerous to breathe.
Team Captain: Ryder (BlueUnicornJ13)
Team Members: Jack Kaiser Kayden Fay
Checkpoints Reached: None
Rules: 1. The Captain of the team must post first 2. A posting order must be kept as people enter the rp. 3. No god modding 4. React to the Checkpoints as they come! (If you don't know what a checkpoint is - don't worry - you'll know when they come!) 5. Communicate with your partners! 6. Have fun!!!!
How the posting order works:
Ryder must post first, then anyone can post after him. They can post back and forth until someone else posts, when someone else posts they must be entered into the posting order. For example: Ryder Fay Ryder Fay Jack Kasier Ryder Fay Jack Kasier Kayden
And so on. This means you do not have to wait for someone to join, but once they do their first post you must wait for them.

ROLEPLAY ORDER 1.Ryder 2.Kayden 3.Jack 4.Fay 5.Kaiser
Ryder looked out over the familiar, ashy landscape of their homeland. He had to admit that he was a little shocked that Khala had decided to take them back here. There was little to no food for them here even after their time away. The land would need a lot of tender love and care to be able to sustain them, but part of him was sort of relieved to be back home. He was so sick and tired of his herd, his family being pushed around by the other herds who obviously had no regard for their safety and well-being. From what he had seen, the Bachelors and, certainly, Olde could care less about them. The Bachelors had done nothing but use them and take their herdmates captive, and Olde had blatantly stated that they were vermin. The brown paint snorted quietly at the thought, sending a flurry of ashes to spin around in front of his nose. His blue eyes scanned the landscape that had turned rich hues of orange and crimson as the sun set on the horizon. Footprints and other signs that predators had been running amok marked the ground, creating paths into the thickening darkness. When they had crossed over the landbridge to the Southern island and the Last Green Land, signs of beasts had been quite obvious which was why Khala had tasked this group with following their tracks and seeking the monsters out. It was a dangerous job, but it was also the first task that Khala had given him since he had become a High Guard. Ryder lifted his head high, sticking to the front of the small group of Exiles. It was his job to keep everyone in this group safe as well as succeeding in taking back their home from the beasts, and for once, Ryder was confident that he could do it. Not alone of course, but with the help of his herdmates. The Exiles were a force to be reckoned with even if the other herds didn't think so. The High Guard looked around at the small group. He hadn't talked to very many of them, but now was better than never, right? Ryder cleared his throat nervously, not accustomed to giving speeches or speaking in front of others. "Okay, everyone, it will be getting dark soon, so stick close together. I don't want anyone being ambushed by anything that might be waiting for us." Ryder began, speaking in a calm tone. Having authority was new to him, but he knew that keeping a cool-head was critical. No one would respect a blubbering, nervous wreck, so Ryder pushed down any anxiety that he felt, smothering it the best he could. "Khala has entrusted us to help reclaim what is ours, so I hope all of you are ready for a fight. I have a feeling that these beasts aren't going to be very happy about our return." Flicking his tail absentmindedly around his flanks, the stallion looked at each and every one of the horses in front of him. "As for a game plan, we should follow the tracks until we find something. I'll lead the front with Jack." Ryder said, thinking of a good idea of what sort of formation they should take to ensure that no predators could sneak up on them without at least being seen ahead of time. "Kasier and Fay watch the sides while Kayden takes up the rear." Ryder finished, nodding affirmatively at the plan. "Does anyone have any questions or concerns before we start?" He asked, letting a crooked grin pull up the corners of his mouth as he looked around at the small band of horses. Word Count: 616

Kaiser was angered as he looked over the last bit of serenity his her had. It was now trampled all over by the beasts that seemed it best to take as much as they can in their absence, it made him upset. He growled low in his chest, his anger fueling on the need to finish the objective that Khala had assigned them. Get the grass beasts out, safely and quickly as possible so the herd could return. His anger grew remembering how Cael and the others had been taken, to keep the herd safe and fed for the time being. Returning his gaze to his bearings he was saddened, the ash was flying softly in the breeze. He knew that the land would be flourishing within a few seasons time but now it had little way to support the herd... But they needed to get away from the Bachelors... The stallion was grief strikes realizing that it was his family that had attacked his herd, and he could do nothing but sit back and watch. He shook his head, willing the thoughts away he returned to keeping his eyes on the horizon kept his eyes open looking for any of the devilish beasts that now wandered their home.
Kaiser perched up hearing Ryder who was a recently appointed High Guard he didn't know the stallion well and he would say he respected him but he would follow his instructions when it came to this mission. There was no room for error in this game of war, let alone with the beasts who only seek out their food with their head. After Ryder had appointed him to guard the sides, Kaiser carefully cut up through the group and placed himself on the left flank of the group. Thinking carefully he decided he wanted to ask his question before it became more relevant, "When we finally run into the beasts what is the battle plan?" He asked carefully, his deep voice berrating through his chest. "Will we go in with a formation or will it be a free for all? These beasts are crazy... They have little to no plan but to kill and feast, their alpha is the one that guides them, and they can barely speak... And when they do they speak with their broken tongue and it barely makes sense." Kaiser said with a snort, he hated the beasts. Having had to deal with them growing up, with their attacks while he lived with the Bachelors. He had a true distaste for the breasts.

Ryder turned his attention to the large, draft stallion, Kaiser, as the Guard spoke. He fell silent for a moment, lost in thought. The gears of his mind turned, thinking of a good battle plan to get rid of the beasts that plagued their land. Kaiser was right that the monsters had no plans. Their thoughts weren't as deep or clever as theirs were, so it would be best if they played on that aspect. Going in with no plan at all would lead to getting someone hurt or worse. His blue eyes wandered over the horses of his group. Most of them were tall, strong stallions who would be able to take a blow or two from a grass beast, save for Fay, the youngest and smallest of the group, and while he didn't doubt the young mare's skills, he couldn't help but think of his own son if he were in this situation. He would have to make sure that she stayed protected during all of this.
"I don't think we should run in like crazed beasts. We need a plan. You're right that the alpha controls the pack and tells them what to do. I think if we took out their leader first, we'd stand a better chance of being able to scare the rest of them away and get them off of our land. Without their leader they will be scattered and afraid." Ryder answered, turning back to Kaiser, who had taken up the left flank. "We should remain in formation as best we can when we run into anything. We can fend things off easier that way until we find the leader and take it out. After that, it should be easier to run the rest of the pack off. Cover each other's backs and make sure no one falls behind or gets injured. We have to trust each other, or this will never work." He said in a solemn, serious tone, having seen and lived through what happens when there is bad blood within a group. It wouldn't be very pretty if they weren't all on the same page. "Any more questions, or shall we set off?" The brown paint asked, looking around at the group of Exiles.

Kayden let a sigh escape him as he gazed out over what was left of his --their-- home. Everything was dead and extra crispy to the point where if he didn't know any better he'd have no idea where he was. All and all it was just plain depressing. He knew it would get better; plants grow back, things like this heal with time. Time...that was something they had precious little of anymore. The chimera snorted softly, shaking his head slightly to dismiss those thoughts; it was all far too philosophical for him. He was here to beat the shit out of the beasts who thought they owned the place now, not contemplate the secrets of the universe. At least it was better than dealing with the Bachelors, and really he was immensely relieved to be off the Eastern Isle --too many memories there that he'd rather not relive.
He swung his head around to face Ryder when he spoke, falling into formation as he was told to. Normally he wasn't much one for taking orders, but he knew when he should do what he's told and now was one of those times. As Ryder finished speaking, Kayden opened his mouth to speak but the grey stallion beat him to it. Immediately he snapped his mouth shut and looked away. He knew the other, Kaiser was his name, wasn't about to attack him, but the X's marking his face just made him uneasy. He couldn't help but roll his eyes at Ryder's response though. Duh they weren't just going to run at them like crazed beasts, that would just be plain stupid! But some of the other's words rang ominously in his head, "We have to trust each other, or this will never work." Kayden snorted again, though a small flutter of anxiety danced in his gut. 'Why the hell was I chosen for this?' he thought helplessly, cause the truth was he trusted each of them about as far as he could throw them.
When the high guard asked for questions again Kayden decided to take his turn to speak, "Yeah, I have a question. So this alpha is super important right? So I'm willing to bet its the most guarded and protected one. If we go after it, chances are a bunch more are gonna jump in to defend it; what do we do then?"

Jack had assumed that his herd would not be stepping onto the barren land of the southern Isle, not since it had been deemed unlivable. He thought that they would return in a few years time, when the trees would be young but growing again, or the grass would be it's old lovely shade of green again. He thought the wise, and religious Olde horses would aid their fellow equines, but no. They were shut down by the arrogant horses, and cast aside to the mercy of the bachelors. And they, being just as ruthless as he had thought had taken their leader, the one working so hard to bring back the exile herd to its old glory. And to finally break the camels back, they had been forced to choose sides in the ridiculous feud between the two herds. It was at times like this that Jack wished to be a loner. To not have to worry about every other horse around you, to not have to rely on anyone but yourself...
Jack sighed softly and shook his head as he walked. No, he shouldn't think like that. He should remember all the good times with the herd, growing up listening to stories about Arryn the thief, and the great fire that had ruined their home. Training beside new friends and finding a new love for helping those that could not help themselves. Spending nights tucked up against his mother and it stormed, and listening to her heartbeat instead of the cracks of thunder. Yes, Jack should remember the good things, and use those to drive the idea of helping his herd.
The stallion lifted his head as Ryder turned and stopped, addressing them. He listened to the high guards words, respecting the stallion but remembering that he must not be used to such speeches. He turned his ears towards him, giving him his full attention. As other spoke and questioned about their objective, he stayed silent, not one to talk much. He was ready to fight, and ready to heal those who needed it after, and knew that following Ryder's plan would lead to success over the beasts. He nodded once at Ryder's plan for formation, and glanced back at the other members of their party.

The little appaloosa filly had to trot to keep up with the four big stallions that surrounded her. Her chest fluttered at the thought of proving herself to her new herd. She stood almost half the hight of most of them, maybe a little taller. The circumstances made her feel comforted and protected instead of intimidated. She hadn't joined the herd for that long so she didn't know any of them truly but had discovered their names when they where paired together. 'i just hope they don't think they need to protect me! i can take care of myself' she huffed at the thought. Though as she approached the charred land her excitement twisted to fear, though she desperately hid it from the rest of the group. The land she had grown up in was a distorted mess and the fond memories of her loner life stabbed at her with no mercy. She tried to focus on searching for any signs of the dangerous creatures they where told they would most likely come across. Fay flanked the right side of the group but felt like a piece of bait that the four stallions didn't really need. She shook away her doubt and admired her companions. Two where x bachelors and it gave her an uneasy feeling to be around them One even had two markings! 'i wonder why' she thought to herself. Then there was Jack and Ryder. Ryder seemed the most friendly of them all and it gave her comfort to know their captain was fair and capable. The way he talked to their team was friendly but in control and she admired that.
She sat silently as she watched the boys all bicker about how to 'take down the beasts' and she almost chuckled out loud at it. "There is no way we are just going to charge in at the leader and actually successfully drive them out. We need a plan" She piped up in a bit of a 'know it all' tone. she felt daring saying it and hoped she wouldn't get a kick in the face for her remark.

Kaiser's ears pinned back at Fay's snide remark. 'Why is she being so rude?' He asked himself, 'this is a time of war and we can be heading into a pack of beasts and she has the audacity to be rude?' With a disgusted snort Kaiser shook his head, knowing if he said a word it might cause Fay to start yelling or continue on with her remarks. Being silent kept either of the two being directed at him, or so he hoped, so he decided to answer truthfully in a calm manner for now. "By attacking the leader we successfully attack their infrastructure Fay, you have a point but after their leader has fallen they will be confused and want to regroup. Giving us the chance to take them down. One-by-one..." Kaiser said with a grim voice, refusing to raise his tone to confront her. He shook his head again, he had a bad feeling about this mission, though remembering Kayden's words he felt they were important, "Kayden has a though point Ryder, what do we do if the mutt's guarded?" He asked, realizing they would probably have to work their way towards the alpha. Which would be tedious, not to mention it would take more time and more time at this point means more injuries.
With a small sigh Kaiser returned his eyes to his horizon, watching the side of the formation he had been put upon to protect and watch over. He had been surprised to see Kayden in his group, he was almost sure he remembered him from his time in the Bachelors, the stallion was only around seventeen when he left though so he might not have remembered what had happened. But Kaiser was perfectly okay with that, the stallion chimed to himself in his head as he kept his eyes cast out onto the landscape.

Ryder flicked his ears toward Kayden as he took his turn to voice his opinion on the plan. It was certainly true that the leader would be guarded, so it wouldn't be a cakewalk to get to it. As Ryder thought of a good idea to get around the inevitable protection that would be around the pack's alpha, Fay spoke up, her snarky tone laced in sarcasm. His brows raised in surprise at the rather harsh tone that came out of the young mare, but Ryder quickly cleared his throat to regain some of his composure, not wanting anyone to think that he wasn't capable of handling this leadership that Khala had given him not only here but as a High Guard as well. Even though his stomach knotted anxiously with all of this attention turned in his direction and all of these horses relying on him, he knew he had it in him to do this. "Well...all of you do have a good point. They aren't going to leave their leader unguarded... or at least they might not leave him unguarded." Ryder added with a sheepish chuckle, glancing at the horses around him before continuing. "Perhaps two of us should go after the leader while the rest of us stay back and fend off the rest of the pack to make sure they can take care of the alpha." He suggested, looking between Fay and Kayden to see if this was an adequate answer to quench their questions. "After that, as Kaiser said, we can drive the rest of them off while they're in a panic."
The brown paint turned toward the setting sun with a quiet sigh. His mind wandered for a brief moment, wondering if his mate, Effie, and son were alright. Leif had never seen this island before though they had been sure to tell him stories of the place that was their home, so he should be plenty occupied with looking around, but he hoped that none of these beasts tried to attack any of his family or the rest of the herd for that matter. Clearing his throat again, Ryder returned to the present and spoke. "It's going to be getting dark soon, so we should probably get going while we still have a bit of daylight. If anyone has any more questions or concerns, feel free to voice them while we search." With that, Ryder gave them one last lopsided grin in an attempt to show friendliness before taking up his spot in the front. His blue eyes trained toward the horizon for any signs of movement as he set off into the ashy plains.

'There is no way we are just going to charge in at the leader and actually successfully drive them out. We need a plan' Kayden's ears pinned when he heard the bratty tone coming from the small appaloosa filly. He was not in the mood to be dealing with children in general, let alone this one who seemed to think she was clever for coming up with the brilliant idea to make a plan. His magenta eyes darted to the other stallions wondering mentally if any of them were going to chastise her, and seeing that none of them were, he decided to do so himself, "And what do you think we're doing exactly? Just stay quiet kid, the grown ups are talking." With that he turned his attention back to Ryder as the high guard answered his question, nodding in agreement.
"Let's get on with this then, those things aren't gonna kill themselves." He said, pawing the ground restlessly with a hoof. He had been on edge since the journey over here --constantly looking over his shoulder, paranoid that someone who knew him would follow-- and now that he had a chance to get that nervous energy out, he was ready and rearing to go.

'so much for a first impression' Fay quickly scolded herself. Her family had always been used to her sarcasm because her mother had the same sense of humour some times. It was hard to control her temper around the new herd and frankly, when she got nervous she got snappy and it was hard to control. "right.. sorry" she added and gave Kaiser and Kayden an apologetic look in the eyes then turned away, not wanting to face them. Though Kayden's remark about her age bothered her and made her face feel hot with temper. Fay listened to Ryder's plan and mapped it out in her head. She had never seen a grass beast before.. "so.. what are grass beasts?" she sheepishly asked, not wanting to sound inexperienced and not ready for the challenge. "are they like quiver backs?" she hoped the stallions would reply with a no. She had seen one only once in her entire life and it was very far away. It was one night when she had decided to be adventurous and sneak off. After seeing the terrifying beast she never ran off again. She shivered at the childhood memory.
The setting sun ripped through the ashy cloud covering the land and pelted the approaching horses as they thundered onto the grave of the once beautiful fields. It made Fay's heart swell with mystery and she let her ears droops and shoulders flop down at the sight of it. unfamiliar sounds echoed across the land and the whole island seemed unfamiliar. She never would have guessed this was her old home. She could distinctly recall the burning sensation she had received from being in the fire and it made her legs tingle and her steps shorten. She gently moved herself into the group and her flank almost touching Kaiser's
