The dunskin mare shifted her weight on her hooves. Everyone was so anxious at the herd, and it was beginning to get to her. She shivered as the cold breeze brushed past her.
Where is everyone? She wondered as she waited for the others on her small team. It was already late, and the streaks of sunlight were fading fast from the darkening sky. Dancer shook out her dark mane as she waited. She had no clue what to expect of the others, as she wasn't really the social with her herd members. She had barely recognized their names, and had forgotten most of them.
Dancer sighed and looked around with her good eye. She was still a bit shocked that she had been asked to lead a small team to keep an eye on the borders. She was half-blind and a follower. This was Knight work. The cream colored mare was thankful that her father had taught her so much as a filly when he was still around. She was confident she would be able to lead, but she was still very nervous for the whole mission.
She looked back towards the city, she thought she could see equine figures coming closer. She sighed in relief that the rest of her team was on the way. [217 words]

Angelia snorted as she walked ahead of the group. Their leader -whoever that was- decided that they were going to meet them there. A horrible idea in her mind, one of them could've easily been picked off by a cougar or something. It would've been easier if they all went to the same place together, but it was getting darker, and they needed to get done with whatever they were doing soon.
Unfortunately for her group the Arabian mare was in one of her rare moods. She didn't know the reason, but she didn't feel like actually doing something today. She was impatient and sarcastic, her tongue was clearly going to get her in trouble.
After a few more moments an equine figure came into view. Finally, she was thinking they'd never actually find whoever was leading them. As the horse's features sharpened she saw it was another follower. She didn't know her name, but she had seen her around, sometimes.
Meeting up with the dun mare, she stood rigid. Not sure what to say or do. She wasn't going to be the first to break the ice. She could barely start normal conversations, let alone whatever this was! Putting her weight on one backleg, she waited for someone to say something.

Dancer looked to the pale mare. Who is that? She wondered. "Hello. I'm Dancer, and who might you be?" She asked. It was quite awkward, she should have remembered the names of her team, but it was something she wasn't very good at. The mare had always had trouble with remembering names when she didn't have a face to put with it.
She smiled sheepishly at Angelia, she could tell that the mare wasn't in the best of moods. Besides that, they need to get the borders checked and secured. No Exile or Bachelor was going to come over to the Isle, no one was going to be captured again.
"Do you know who else is coming?" Dancer asked Angelia, looking back at the other equine figures that hadn't been as quick as the Arabian mare. "I'm not the greatest with herd members, even though I've been here for so long. Just haven't been very social to get to know my herd members," she said. She was slightly embarrassed about admitting it, but what else was there to talk about until the other two arrived.
This was something new to nearly all of them. She knew that one member of the team was a rook, but the others were all followers.

Diony walked towards the meeting place with his head bobbing to his walk and eyes watching the stars. His mother, the fading red dun mare named Mareia, wasn't to happy that her "little boy" was leaving for a while, and neither was he, so he had Rystar check on her whenever he could. As the horses grew closer her heard them speaking scarcely. Mares! he thought haughtily, picking up his head and puffing his chest. His eyes focused and saw their features. . . messy hair and painted hide. . . Dernser?-no Dancer. . . Small. . Arab. . .Spots.. Angelia. . Diony thought with a nod, thanking his mother for teaching him how to remember names of horses.
"Good evening Angelia, and hello Dancer! How are you fine ladies on this frigid eve?" He called with a charming grin as he finally approached.

Angelia tried to hide an eye roll as Dancer asked for her name, "Angelia," she mumbled. "Two stallions were behind me, somewhere behind me..." Flicking an ear towards hoof steps in the grass, she saw a dark colored stallion. He was cute, but she hadn't been up for flirting much lately.
Besides once the last stallion showed up, they could get going. The boarders weren't going to check themselves. Putting her weight in her other foot, she turned her head to the dark stallion. How did he know their names? Stalker much. "Darling." Angelia started, matching his charming smile, "We're not here to flirt, we were told to check the boarders and get back go to ther herd." Dropping her smile the cold mare averted her eyes to the ground. "What's your name anyways?."
Shivering Angelia swished her tail in annoyance. The grass tickling her ankles, plus their last member was taking their time. Not like they had to be somewhere or anything."Where are we going to first? she mumbled, not taking her eyes off of the ground.
Her legs were itching to move, they had been standing here for at least what, 2 minutes? Couldn't they just go on now and whoever was the last member could catch up. They were losing precious day time. It would be hard to see on the dark if they were to carry on. That didn't seem smart, predators could probably seem them easily in the dark.

Dancer looked to the stallion. "Would you happen to be Diony?" She asked, recognizing him, but just barely. "Who else is coming? I know there should be one more, but if he doesn't get here soon, we'll just have to leave without him," the dun mare said, looking back to the city to see if any other equines were on their way.
The tall mare shifted her weight again, wanting to get going, but at the same time, she wanted to make sure everyone was with them. "Should we wait, or should we just head out?" Dancer asked the two, training her good eye on them.
"And to answer your question Angelia, I think we'll head out to the land bridge, it's the easiest place to come over, and it makes me uneasy," she said, looking in the direction they would be heading if they went towards the land bridge. "Or we could head towards the Silver Wood." She shrugged a little bit. We'll have to move soon, this is not a very good spot to be at night, too many predators to spot us, and nowhere for us to hide. Angelia rolled her eyes, "We should've left a long time ago." she grumbled. "This last member is only holding us up. We don't have very long to actually check anything." Yeah their last member could get eaten, but that was his own fault for being late. You snooze you lose.
"I say we leave. He can catch up." He might not even come! He could be sitting around with the rest of the herd, well whoever had decided to stay. Besides, they had three members, they could still check the boarders with three horses.
The pale mare thought it over. No one would be in or near the Silver Wood, except the team investigating. "The landbridge is a better place to go, only Olde is in the Silver Wood at the moment, no one bad is going to be in there." Nothing was over there anyways, only the Silver Wood and Forbidden Forest.
Angelia looked towards the landbridge. No one would come over there right? The Bachelor herd had their injuries to deal with. They wouldn't come start a skirmish when they were weak. Even though it looked like Olde was worse. They had lost a few mares to the Bachelors, so the eastern herd was probably strongest at the moment.

"Darling, we're not here to flirt, we were told to check the boarders and get back to the herd. What's your name anyways?" Angelia asked him. "Diony." he said with a nod, after an internal snort. The two mares discussed what to do while he looked over his shoulder for the fourth of their party. "Where are we going to first?" he heard before turning back his attention. Hm, where ARE we going? he thought silently, quirking his sharp brow. He looked to Dancer as she replied, "I think we'll head out to the land bridge, it's the easiest place to come over, and it makes me uneasy, or we could head towards the Silver Wood." "I say we wait just a while longer for him. If our comrade doesn't get here soon, then we can head to the land bridge." he said after Angelia, even if he's running late, there must be a reason. Even more, had they left before he had come, Diony would be more than peeved. Maybe their fourth was tending to a injured foal, or even had a different matter to attend to prior, we should be patient. With a sigh, the stallion stretched his legs impatiently."So, how is everyone?"

"Diony, we can't wait around for him anymore, if we do, we might get caught up with predators," Dancer said, turning her blue eye to him. "We're heading out, now. If he catches up, he does, if not, oh well." She snorted as she started towards the land bridge. She flicked her long tail as she did.
We need to get going, no more waiting. If the last one of their party didn't show up, oh well. He could stay with the rest of the herd. Dancer thought as she walked. "Are y'all coming or not?" She called back to Angelia and Diony.
"I agree with Angelia, it's tense enough without having to wait around in the dark," the mare said, looking back at them. A small smirk on her face as she walked towards it. The bridge brought back enough memories that she sometimes lost herself to it, but not this time. She had a job to do, and she had to see it through. It also wasn't just her, she had to watch out for two others alongside herself.
He's not going to show up, it's already been long enough. If he had been coming, he would have been here already. Dancer thought as she went. [208 words]

Angelia smiled to herself as Dancer agreed with her. They could finally get moving. Maybe the predators wouldn't eat them after all, wasn't that nice to know. "If he actually cares, he'll catch up." she said bluntly. The Arabian followed Dancer without a second thought. She wanted to get out of here as soon as possible, this place was making her queasy. Something could easily be watching them here, and they wouldn't have any place to hide.
Some horses didn't want to help the herd, and in time of war, how selfish. It's not like they were going to be out here for multiple days, hopefully. There was only one place that they could actually check, which was the landbridge. The sea was the only other option. Surely no one would be stupid enough to try and cross it.
"So do we just go by the landbridge and move on?" Angelia had never been invited to check the boarders before! She was just a simple follower after all. It's not like she knew what to do, why was she even put on this team anyways? She couldn't fight if there a threat, she could do basically nothing to help if something were to pop up. The only thing she might accomplish was messing something up.

Diony tailed the mares and spared a look over his shoulder for their forgotten member. As his legs carried him nearer the land bridge, he felt strangely nostalgic of a time come to pass. He huffed it off and closed the gap between him and the mares. The stallion became hyper aware of his surroundings at the call of a memory triggered by this intruding scent of dust and sweat.
"Dancer, do you smell that?" he asked the mare as he arrived next to her, motioning coast ward with his head."There aren't any other patrols out, are there?" the stallion added, knowing that this scent wasn't burly enough to be any quiver beast and they were too far from any city for it to be a disturbed cougar. .

Dancer looked to Diony as he caught up with them. She took a deep breath, and snorted.
"There are no other patrols out tonight, at least, I think so," she said. She took another deep breath to figure it out. The mare thought for a minute of what it could be. "Bachelors," she whispered. She stopped and looked around.
We should have left earlier! This is not a good time to run into trouble, especially with the Bachelors'. She thought as she scanned the area, looking for the source of the scent. Dancer looked to the sea as the tide came in. We have the home advantage, at least. Thank goodness for that.
She looked to Angelia and then back to Diony, her good eye keeping a look out for anything that might harm them. "I probably should have asked this earlier, but can either of you fight?" Dancer asked, hoping that they could at least defend themselves. Please say you have some experience with fighting! Diony is a rook, he should have some kind of training with fighting, right? She thought, becoming slightly worried that neither of them could. We might not get out of a scuffle alive if they can't defend themselves. [204 words]

Angelia continued behind the two horses, spaced out. Surely they could just go home after they checked the landbridge. They wouldn't have to do a stakeout or anything, right? Suddenly the word Bachelors reached her ears. Stopping with her ears pricked she looked at the rest of her team. From their expressions, she gathered they were near. Their scent reached her nose. They couldn't be close! Ugh, that dumbass late horse! If they would have left sooner they wouldn't be having this problem. If she ever found out who was suppose to be on their team, she would pummel them. Probably not, she didn't have any strength what so ever.
They couldn't go to the Bachelors! She was way too soft for that! "We have to get out of here." the mare mumbled to herself. If it came to it, she would be out of here, all she had to do was out run these two. That shouldn't be hard, she was faster than most horses.
Dancer asked if she could fight. She stifled a cackle, that would be inappropriate at the moment. "Does it look like I'm built for fighting?" An Arabian, yes, obviously built for fighting. "Wait." Angelia hissed. "We aren't going to try to drive them out, are we?" No no no no no, she couldn't do that! Did she look like a frightening mare? Did she look capable of driving out intruders?!
