So the mage hadn't had enough? Alabaster's initial shock at the dark horse's persistence drained from his face, replaced by fiery anger. Hadn't he dug himself into a pit of trouble as it was? Taishen seemed persistent in continuing their little spat. The snowy stallion readied himself, prepared to spring away or dodge should the larger equine charge him, though he was still trying to figure out how to avoid another volley of water missiles should it come to that. He thought he could hear a voice calling out, but it was lost in the roar and hiss of the ocean waves and his own focused concentration. He couldn't let his attention wander and allow the mage to attack him by surprise. "MONSTER!" This time the voice was closer and he was too startled to keep his eye on the dark equine. His brown eyes flickered to his approaching niece, fear shining in her sky-blue eyes. And then the Queen took ahold of the situation, literally, dragging the mage by his ear. Alabaster straightened, pleased to hear Taishen would be punished, but his ears swiveled back in surprised and something of indignation as she reprimanded him. The mage had deserved it! His steely brown eyes pierced those of the unruly equine. He didn't doubt the mage would have tried to drag his niece into it at all, though there was nothing for him to accuse her of. She was a perfect, sweet young filly with a promising future as a healer, a mare who was most certainly not going to attack her own herd mates or act like a boy, she was a proper young lady after all. She had never before questioned the king or the unicorns unlike someone else he could name. This mage, Taishen, was proving to be little more than scum in Alabaster's opinion. Like a smudge of dirt across his clean white flank or a common dandelion among roses or perhaps a better comparison would be that of a blasphemous blabber mouth amid the peaceful and holy herd of Olde. Blameless? Of course he was blameless. He obeyed the king, followed the way of the unicorns, and his family was perfectly normal and as Olde-like as one could get. It wasn't his fault that the big oaf needed some sense knocked into him! He wasn't one to get his hooves dirty, but no one else was about to do it. Smoldering with resentment behind a placid, unreadable expression, he stood rigid in the sand. His coat was sodden, a cool breeze blew off the ocean, and the sun had yet to rise high in the sky and warm the earth. Trying not to give the mage so much as a sliver of satisfaction by shivering, he slowly ambled after his retreating group, sticking close to his niece and picking a spot in the center of the congregation. "It will be alright." he whispered in the filly's ear, trying not to drip cold ocean water on her head. "It was just...a heated disagreement, he wouldn't have hurt me, not really." he nickered soothingly, though inwardly he couldn't help but wonder. The fire in Taishen's eyes and his persistence in continuing the fighting probably wouldn't have ended healthily for the white stallion if not for the Queen's intervention. "But from now on, you must do your best to stay away from him and Eden, do you understand?" he cautioned, "I doubt they will be friendly to either of us after this, I'm sorry."

Everything was fuzzy for a few seconds after blacking out from the collision. I looked up and saw our queen nudging my shoulder to stand, so I did. It took a few seconds to regain my balance but as soon as I did I shot a glare at Taishen before looking back to Bloom.
"Thank you my Queen" I bowed "I was just doing my duty, protecting my herdmates. I am fine though just a few scratches fortunately" I walked over to rejoin the group as our mission was coming to an end, unsuccessfully.
"It's a shame we let petty arguments disrupt our mission but what's done is done and cannot be changed." I sighed and walked closer to Alabaster "Are you alright?" I asked in a quiet reserved tone.

Oh yes, Taishen was going to wipe the smug grin right off of Alabaster's pristine, ivory face. He was going to settle this right here and right now, and forever more the adviser and herd would know that Eden was firmly off-limits. A fierce grin, almost a snarl lifted Tai's lips as he was swept away by the wave of his clamoring power- he would smash, he would destroy, he would obliterate, he would-
Ow ow pain ow OW OW
"OW!" Eyes watering, Taishen swung awkwardly to face his Queen, taking tiny, shuffling steps to keep his balance as the shorter mare held his head down. If ever there was an effective way to shatter his massing power, it was to be hauled around by the ear, facing an irate and scolding mare. As the last of his power ebbed and receded, it was replaced by clarity of mind, and Tai gulped as he started in to narrowed blue- no, olive, eyes. Uh-oh, she was good and mad.
"What are you doing?" Her voice, soft though it may be, cracked like a whip, and Tai flinched.
“I, Bloom, I can-”
But she rode right over him, and hopefully over his familiar slip, using her name instead of her rank, a slip he had been schooled against.
“How dare you lay a hoof on your own herdmates!”
“Well, I didn’t hit with my hooves, so much-” but she was still going, ignoring his splutters and only adding to his chagrin-
“-is this how one of your esteemed rank should conduct himself?”
“I- well, defense of my family-”
But again he was ignored as Bloom continued condemning him, and finally his halting protests trailed away and died, as his ears wilted. She was right, of course. What HAD he been thinking? As his anger finally pulled away like the lowering tide, a sudden weariness rushed in, and the stallion felt his head droop further as it shuddered through his body. For a moment he was too consumed in exhaustion and confusion to listen to the distant words of those around him. What was wrong? Why on chevalin were his legs shaking with such fatigue? He’d barely done anything today- his eyes fell to the surf. Ah. He’d been warned about the effects of extensive gift usage- this must be what was happening. He’d have to build up his endurance and strength with his new gift, as surely as he’d had to with his own muscles.
If he was allowed to continue, that was. Ashamed, the chestnut lifted his head with a surprising effort and tuned back in to the conversation. Alabaster was looking indignant, and for a change at Bloom’s back, rather than Taishen’s, and he surmised he had been gently reprimanded as well. Tai found he could stir up only a dull sense of satisfaction- he had been the one truly out of line, as he well knew.
“We are turning back,” Bloom announced, turning resolutely away from him and calling to Arabella.. Tai’s ears wilted further. He had effectively botched the mission. As he began walking, dragging his usually proud gait through the sand, the stallion thought to himself that while it was fine and all to say that unicorns would judge him, he rather thought it was the mortal judgement of his returning herd he had more to worry about. But of course, he didn’t voice it. He was too tired, in body and spirit. Casting a side-long look at Freya, who was pointedly ignoring him, Tai felt guilt claw his insides again, and didn’t try to catch up as both she and the also aloof Alabaster drew ahead of him. Soon, he was at the back of the group. Probably Aralynne wouldn’t even want to associate with him after such an embarassing display.
But he’d done it for her, and the innocent Exiles, and for Eden. And as he raised his eyes slightly to look at Bloom, Tai felt that small fire that had bloomed in his chest kindle ever so slightly, and he knew he’d do it again. He would never stand idly by and not defend those who needed it.
But one glance at Freya and Alabaster’s coldly stiff postures doused the small flame back to an ember.
He’d do it again, but perhaps not so… stupidly.
He sighed.

Her gaze lingered on the Queen’s silhouette for a moment, but finally Arabella nodded and as her uncle had asked her to do, she obediently walked to the water’s edge and waited for the adults to finish speaking. She walked with her tail almost dragging on the sand, and her head was lowered as she looked around the shore. So many beautiful memories were brought back to her while she stood there, like the ones when he used to play in the sand and splash in the small waves.
But suddenly, all those memories were crushed by the most recent one; huge and brutal horses who came across the bridge.
The Bachelors. The cruel monsters who had taken her… that memory was still fresh, and she couldn’t help but close her eyes shut for a moment as all the flashbacks flooded her head. It was like a nightmare, but it was like one that she would never be able to wake up from. Since that day, the flashbacks had been haunting her every time she saw something that would make her remember that horrible incident. Today was the first time she returned to the shore after she had been taken away by the stallions. Big stallions with pelts bathed in war scars dragging her across the land bridge to take her away with them, pulling her long mane and tail with their teeth, destroying the delicate petals that rested in them as she was pulled into the darkness, away from her family and home; that was all she could remember from that horrible day.
The flashback felt so real that she had been completely off while the rest of her herd mates were speaking. Suddenly the screams coming from them returned her back to the reality, her bright blue eyes hot open and she was back on the shore, the soft waves touching slightly her hooves. Her breathing had become heavier and her legs started to shake with fear. She felt paralyzed, but finally she turned around and stared in dismay at her herdmates. She was back in the present, but she couldn’t avoid feeling like she was back in that moment again. She pictured Taishen, the defender mage as one of the cruel Bachelors attacking her dear uncle Alabaster. She was confused, and exploded at him like she would have done with a Bachelor stallion.
“Stop! Don’t hurt him! Y-You cruel monster, d-d-don’t!” She screamed, her eyes were wide as two full moons as the water impacted her uncle and Freya.
Arabella raced towards them as fast as she could, but her legs were trembling with so much fear that she almost stumbled over the sand. But her gaze… it expressed deep fear; she couldn’t imagine what could happen if her uncle got injured, she didn’t know what to do without him. He was the only one she thought she could really trust among all the stallions, and she would feel so lost and lonely without him.
“MONSTER!” She finally yelled to Taishen as some tear drops rolled down her cheeks. How could he dare attack one of their herdmates? She hadn’t been paying enough attention to their conversation to know if he had a good reason to attack her uncle. But even if he had one, Arabella would not tolerate it. Her shaking legs almost made her fall again, but her blazing blue gaze was fixed on the stallion who had attacked her uncle. The expressed anger, but it was almost covered with the fear she felt about confronting a stallion. Would he attack her too…?
She was so focused on looking at him that the young filly almost didn’t hear her Queen when she spoke to her, she felt really confused after having lost the control over herself in that way. She lowered her head again, tired with her sudden outburst towards the stallion. Arabella didn’t know what to do anymore, the experience with the bachelors had left her so traumatized and made her feel that every stallion meant harm and danger. But how else was she supposed to react? After all, she was even more confident about that after watching her uncle and the innocent mare getting attacked. The way she used to see the world had changed a lot, and she wasn’t sure if she would be able to look at everyone with the same innocent smile again, as long as the nightmare of the Bachelors was still present on her head.

(I edited my previous reply so I didn't make this post confusing by going back and forth in time to much. ) Alabaster's brown gaze shifted from his niece to the mare Freya who strode along beside him. "Fine, thank you, though I'd hardly call that petty. It was a matter of loyalty to ones own herd and as you and I both witnessed first hand, a violent attack from one of our own 'herd mates'," then lowering his voice so the others around them couldn't hear, "Though I doubt he'll remain in such a position for much longer, especially if he keeps this up." An especially cool breeze wafted across the congregation and Alabaster couldn't suppress the shiver that racked his sopping wet sides. One way or another, he would find a way to exact his own punishment on the mage and it wouldn't be pretty. He'd pull up some rather unsavory connections if he found it necessary and he had plenty of supporters and respected friends in the herd to back him up if Taishen didn't receive proper punishment for his actions. Then his attention shifted back to his niece as the Queen called out for her yet again. Worry pricked at him and he wondered if he should suggest Arabella stay beside him instead, she'd been quite shaken by the mornings events. But no, it was an honor to be selected by the Queen herself and it had certainly made Arabella happy the first time, besides, it couldn't hurt their ties with the monarchs if she became a favorite of the Queen's. "Go ahead dear," he nickered reassuringly and giving her a light nuzzle. "I'll be right here if you need me."

As the ice gave to cool sand beneath her hooves, nausea swelled in Bloom's belly. She wasn't sure if it was sickness or the bitter aftertaste of failure. Regardless, she swallowed it down, tried to keep it together. She kept her head high, eyes up, her steps light and airy. She didn't look back. To look back would be to acknowledge the anger and disappointment in her herdmates' eyes, mirroring the devastation in her own heart that she refused to coddle. There was no time to wallow in the the botched mission. Her priorities remained the same.
She would need to find another scapegoat, someone or something else to take the fall for the magic running wild across the Isle. She needed to keep the focus away from the real source, from the Wall that had broken and crumbled under mortal touch, releasing all its powerful magic into the world.
She remembered the night the seal had broken. It had only been a few months ago. The light that accompanied it had been so bright it'd hurt her eyes.
Bloom closed them in the present, trying to shake off the memory. Her stomach burned. There was a scar there, hundreds of years old. It had been a tattoo once, a black serpent in four coils. But that had been before they'd broken her horn. Now it was no more than a gray scar with the outcast's symbol inked over it. A triangle, two circles. Shame etched into her very flesh, a promise that she would live the rest of her days alone and hated.
Bloom licked her lips and lowered her head. The sliver of her blue horn shown between her blonde bangs, twinkling, though none of her companions could see it. "Take heart, friends. If there is a silver lining to be had, it is that we found no Exiles lingering on our lands." She told them, her voice as steady as a calm ocean. "Perhaps that will be enough to satisfy the Unicorns."

Good job everyone! You're nearing the end of your objective. Your next and final post should be a 'wrapping up' post so to speak... anything left unsaid should be said now :)

[ Aralynne | Healer Mage ]
While the conflict and clamor continued, Aralynne did what Aralynne did best, she withdrew into herself to escape from the conflict. From the moment that Alabaster had challenged her, directed his accusations at her, fear had overtaken everything in her mind; she was horrified- no, petrified, of being kicked out of the herd by the Queen she had always loved and respected. Never had she found any fear in her interactions with the mare- until today. And Alabaster. . . she'd never spoken to him, but he'd now rather made himself to be the scariest one of them all. She was vaguely aware of Taishen standing between her and the others, defending her. . . protecting her, like the brave warrior he was.
She wasn't fully brought from her protective state until she'd heard the yelling, though the voices still seemed oddly diluted to her ears. Blinking to try and focus on what was happening, her jaw nearly dropped when she saw the wave of water that hit the Adviser and Freya. Slightly amused, yet still unsure of how to feel or react, she realized that the defense had come once again from Taishen. Pale eyes now drawn wide, she looked frantically between him and Bloom, waiting to see how she would react. "If you ever threaten my brother again, I'll- I'll," she heard the painted stallion yell. Eden? Had someone threatened him? It was then that a rare emotion bubbled in her stomach. . . perhaps a reminiscent feeling of her motherly nature, or defense of one of her dearest friends- but she was truly angry. How dare they say anything against him! Sure, he wasn't the easiest to get a long with (she knew that first hand...) but he was- he was- her train of though stopped when the Queen then intervened.
Grabbing the Mage by the ear, she yanked him down and scolded him thoroughly. Aralynne herself took a few steps back as embarrassment for her friend made her pelt swarm with heat. Had she helped cause this? Even if not, she could not help feeling partially responsible. It was her origins that had gotten them into this mess. . . It was her fault. Always her fault. Bloom gave the order to return, speaking more of the unicorns and condemnation, who would be at blame among them. Letting her ears drop and her neck lower submissively, she turned so she couldn't see their Leader's face. It was her. . . they were probably all thinking it. She was the one here that possessed the tainted blood, a tainted life- not one pure and worthy of Olde or the unicorns. Not even one worthy enough to have a friend that would place his pride on the line for her. . .
Aralynne waited as the group slowly started moving back, falling in beside her fellow Mage. A deep emotion within her told her that she needed to reach out to him, that she needed to offer comfort and reassurance, so with a deep breath and a pounding heart, she lightly leaned on his side, looking up to try and catch his eye. "Thank you," she murmured softly, blue gaze shining with gratitude- and maybe a little something more. So long as he needed someone, she would be there for him. She would not abandon him, nor forget what he'd done that day, and she hoped he knew that. Though she wasn't brave enough to say it aloud, it was probably the sincerest she had ever been.

Plodding along, dragging one hoof after another with no attempt at his usual swagger, Tai was dully aware of Freya and Alabaster's quiet conversation, and he was tiredly certain of the subject. Looking back down at the sand, which was slowly giving way to grass once more, he closed his eyes.
"Monster!" The cry ran through his head, over and over, a sickening duet with his roiling stomach. What a mess he'd made of things, justified or no. Monster... monster...
A sudden suffusion of warmth, contact- Brown eyes shot open, and met the shy blue of Aralynne. Tai felt his shame, his pain, even his exhaustion, all fade to the back of his consciousness as his friend leaned in to him, said those magical words.
"You're welcome," he said quietly, an echo of his old strut entering his stride. It faded quickly, dragged away by his gift-fatigue, but it had been there all the same. "If you're any indication," and he bumped her shoulder lightly, "there's nothing inherently wrong with the Exiles, and to blame them for our troubles..." he shook his head slowly. "It's not right." He hesitated, walking in silence for a few beats. "But neither was... what I did. Aralynne, I ruined his mission, no matter what the Queen says." He shook his head again as unease flared in his gut. "Alabaster threatened Eden," he added, a touch desperately, seeking for a shred of approval, of justification. See, he was doing it again. Tai raised his eyes to Bloom and Arabella. Monster...
"I have to do something," he muttered to the healer. Then, "My Queen!" Quickening his stride despite his aching muscles, Tai took advantage of Bloom's pause and caught up to her. "If I may speak," he faltered, as his eyes traveled across her cool gaze and Arabella's tear-stained one. He looked away, took a deep breath.
"I would like to formally apologize," he said to the group, with some difficulty. Swallowing his pride was... not at the top of his list of fun activities. "I- there's no excuse for my behavior; I simply apologize. I lost my temper and- well. I am sorry," he finished, rather lamely.
