Nefertiti | Olde | Knight | WC: 376
The mare shrank back at Judiahs harsh words, her stare now just as harsh with distaste. Never had she'd liked being yelled at, especially when others questioned her faithfulness. She was a knight, after all, didn't that prove anything to them? A look of annoyance grew on her face as he questioned them all. Cousin to the King or not, he was spouting nonsense about a lack of faith, and Nefertiti wasn't one who wanted to tolerate it. As she went to speak, the motion of the river caught her eye. It was acting strangely, even for her to notice. She'd swam and played in a few of the other rivers on the island, but never ad she'd seen water act this way. Her eyes focused on the water at the bank closest to her, moving her ears to listen to Jekyll speak. Looking up at him as he paused and bobbing her head in agreement, she looked to Judiah to see his reaction. As soon as her head turned, the roar of the wave and the abrupt cut off of Jekyll speech caused her to yelp out. The wave claimed both Daemyn and Sparowanel, and she stood for a moment in sheer terror at what she had just witnessed. Shaking her head clear, she took off down the bank with the others, chasing the pair down stream. Her feet tore at the sandy shores as she rushed to get ahead of them, watching the river toss and churn with anger, and they were at it's mercy. She stopped a little ways ahead of them, paused with her hooves in the crimson waters, and taking in a deep breath. She had to trust the river wouldn't take her too if she did this, whispering the softest of prayers for her safety before launching into the water after them. The current forced itself mercilessly against her as she tried to keep her footing, and she could see the others offering branches and direction for the others as they came close. "Come to me!" She shouted, almost chest deep in the water now. She could go no deeper without questioning her footing, nor did she want to be too far from shore, not with the river like this.

Daemyn | Olde Herd | Rook | Word count: 426
Daemyn heard a yelp and cry for help just before he was pulled under the red waters again. Someone else had been dragged in by the violent, unnatural wave, but that didn’t even register with the palomino draft. All he could focus on was the blurred red that clouded his vision and the cold water that kept him from breathing. He was terrified! It was the same crippling terror that had shot through his head when the landbridge gave way and he fell into the ocean. He’d been lucky then as it happened closed to solid land and the water didn’t actively seek to carrying him along. But this river, this once calm silver beauty? It had turned into a monster with a will of its own. He broke the surface and gasped loudly before sucking in air desperately. He saw the others race along the edge of the water and duly noted Sparrow being swept along with him. Daemyn kicked the water aggressively, doing everything to keep from going under again. His massive hooves were just as hazardous to Sparrow as the water, but in his panic Dae couldn’t even begin to understand this. The other’s shouted but their words were difficult to make out over the roar of blood in his ears. He saw a branch extended and snapped his teeth at it, missed and gave a pitiful cry as the river carried him along. Jediah’s voice cut through to him like a ray of light in darkness. Somehow his words had no trouble sinking through and the desperate rook sought the familiar dark form on the riverbank. A boulder, there was a boulder coming up? He tossed his head, eyes wide with panic and more white than blue but yes! There! He saw it up ahead, just barely breaking the water’s surface, but if he could hit it perhaps he’d be granted just a moment's rest if not salvation. He kicked his massive feet and managed to steer his heavy body into the path of the boulder, colliding just hard enough to lose his breath and bruise. Teeth snapped at the air several desperate times before he finally caught the blue fabric. For a moment he was still, nostrils flared while he tried to calm himself as the river continued to rush around him and over his body. He knew he had to move, but it was terrifying to leave his perceived safety of the boulder. He took a couple of deep, deep breaths and threw himself towards the river bank and Jediah.

Sparowanel | Rook | WC: 329
The spotted horse flailed and floundered, doing everything possible to try and keep his head above the terrible red water, to keep that sweet, cold air available to his lungs. But it was so /hard/, he was getting so tired of fighting this current. Voices filtered into into ears at those moments when he was able to suck in air, and he saw racing shapes. They were coming to help! Even Jediah, he saw the dark horse running alongside to help Daemyn. So he didn't think they were all utterly lost and traitors then, that was good...
Mind went blank for a moment, before a heavy thud to his side made his breath escape into a cloud of bubbles. It stunned him, but brought him back to his senses as he resumed the fight for air, to escape this writhing, tainted water. Dae was too close, too close. But at least the other was stronger, better able to fight. When green gaze surfaced once more, he saw the other at a boulder, holding onto something by Jediah, but they were so far away now. Sparrow tried to spin around, desperately seeking the others who's voices he'd heard, and he saw them. With a whinny of terror he lashed out, pushing against the water as fiercely as he could. A streak of terror colder than the currents that currently gripped him swept over his being as he rushed past the rescuers with the branch, only to be caught by Nerfertiti, who was risking herself by being so far into the water. With a gasp, he tumbled into her her, before turning his head and grabbing the proffered branch as Janice moved closer.
The rook gripped the proffered item with an adrenaline induced strength, clinging to it desperately, eyes huge and white. He should be struggling to shore again, getting onto firm land. But all he could do was stay there, fighting the current and sucking in lungfuls of blessed air.

Janice | Olde | Follower | Word Count: 250 The mare sprinted faster as she watched Nefertiti wade into the water, concerned the water might swell up again and take her into the rapids as well. The sun beat down on them, the clouds have danced out of it's way giving the illusion it was actually warm out that day. The mare snorted trying to keep her eyes on Sparrow praying he would be able to stop at the boulder as Dae had. She squealed as she watched him fly by the three stallions though and she pushed herself harder trying to get ahead of him, almost dropping the branch as she watched him bash off of Nefertiti and continue downstream. With a quick kick the mare bolted forward fast enough to allow Sparrow to grab a hold, Janice held fast standing there taking deep breaths as he did not letting them move a stride.
The mare began to slowly back up, only a few steps as the current was still strong, pulling the stallion to shore and out of the raging river. She prayed the river would let him be saved. Looking down the branch she was thankful that she had been able to grab it, knowing Sparrow might have continued down the red-turned river and might have never been seen again. Looking back Janice watched the water, waiting for it to do something else or take everyone while it had the chance.
"What was the point of all this?" She asked herself in her head before returning her attention to Sparrow.

Turquoise eyes watched in anticipation as the well built stallion threw himself at the boulder, praying in his mind that he would be kept there long enough. It seemed to Jediah that these prayers had been answered and that the Great One was being merciful towards this innocent soul. When he felt Daemyn grab a hold of the fabric, he felt an incredible tug that almost threw him in too. However, with a moment's chance the adviser saw the solution. All the anger he had felt towards the others, especially his fellow adviser after he had carelessly opened his mouth to spurt out nonsense, was directed into his next movement. As Daemyn did his best to lunge himself forwards, the dark stallion simultaneously through his entire weight back to the ground to haul the larger stallion out of the threatening water. As soon as his shoulder met ground, his reflexes told him to roll himself out of the way of the tumbling mass of horse that would surely break his brittle bones should he fall on him.
Panting heavily, he had to scan his focus back to see if he had actually succeeded and luckily the other was now on solid ground. Then, something in his mind clicked. The other unfaithful rats had also aided a betrayer out of the water. The one that had fallen in, however, was but a rook and in Jediah's mind he was simply too young and naive to understand the weight of his words. He had obviously been influenced by the wrong individuals and needed to be set on the right path. The others- If they did not see how their despicable sympathizing with the Exiles caused this then there was no hope for them. If this did not wake up the true devout nature of Olde in them, then there was no hope and Jediah had no other choice but to report them to the King for consequences. "Now do you see what you have caused?! You anger the great one and by circumstance the innocents are punished!" he hissed, painfully getting to his feet clenching his teeth.

Nefertiti | Olde | Knight | WC: 318
Nefertiti gave a huffed breath as Sparrow collided with her, panicked for a moment as her feet left the safety of the sediment. pushing herself backwards with a great heave, her feet for the riverbed once more. In her panic she had lost Sparrow to the river. She yelled out and charged after him in the water, spraying herself with the thick red waters, only to be stopped as Janice caught him with her branch. Relief washed over her like the waters as he caught hold of it. Walking towards him as steady as she could, she couldn't help but give a soft laugh of relief as he stood frozen. Stopping beside him, she nipped lightly at his rump to help encourage him out of the river.
Her smile disappeared as Jediah spoke, turning her head back to look at the dark adviser her eyebrows pressed downwards. Punishing innocents? That was not the Comprimiser she'd been taught, nor one she'd want to follow if that were the case. Turning her body towards the bank, she started to haul herself out of the water, her coat dripping with red now. Before she could let out her thoughts, Jekyll started to speak, so she listened to his works of wisdom.
Why couldn't the advisers be more like Jekyll? He's at least reasonable...
Nodding in agreement to Jekyll's words, she decided she should pipe in her opinion. "We need to figure out the cause of this omen before we can go banishing horses from our lands. We need to work as a team, no matter how reluctant we are to help each other, to ensure we are doing a thorough job." Taking in a breath, she looked over the group. "We need to factor out things first. Like perhaps this may be under the spell of another horse, maybe?" Her eyebrows rose in a false surprise, looking around them all again.

Daemyn | Olde Herd | Rook | Word count: 254
Daemyn struggled against the red water, which threatened to pull his legs away once more, dug his hooves into the squishy soft bottom and pushed forward. He had eyes and ears only for Jediah. His panicked mind simply couldn’t register or absorb the other struggle which happened so very close to himself. All he could think of and focus on, was getting free of the churning red water, getting onto land and safety. With Jediah’s help he was suddenly out of the water, stumbling forward on firm ground while shaking like a leaf. The wet blue cloth dangled from his mouth still, as he stood frozen, snorting with every breath of air while blinking rapidly. He was trying to understand, trying to wrap his mind around the event, trying to will himself out of the shock that had him petrified. Jediah’s words cut through to him again, snapping him out of his stupor. He blinked slowly at the advisor while he spat angry words which were returned in kind. Still holding the blue fabric in his mouth, Daemyn walked up to Jediah and looped his neck over the advisor’s, pressing his huge, wet face into the side of the dark stallion’s neck, an equine version of the bear-hug. And Dae hugged tightly. “Thank you, “ he mumbled softly around the cloth, unaware of how he was soaking the other. Then he released the old grump and stood alongside him, making sure Jed was closest to the river, supporting him in silence. Daemyn had been convinced.

Sparowanel | Rook | WC: 439
The young spotted horse stood there, mind numbed to the notion that he should move, should get out of the water that still rushed about his knees. Instead, he stood there shivering, teeth still clamped on the wooden branch that had helped to save him. It was the sharp nip to his rump that brought him too, head darting up in surprise, eyes swiveling to see the mare behind him. And then he felt the tug upon his head, as Janice pulled backward on the branch, urging him out of the water. Sparrow followed her lead obediently, the branch hitting the earth beneath with a dull thud when he was safely several feet from the river. The rook never shook, simply stood there, dripping red, head hung low as he shivered and panted, as if severely cold. Eventually, head lifted slightly, focusing upon Jekyll as he spoke, and nodding slowly in gratitude. Wide eyes shifted about the group, noting all were once again on dry land. The other rook that had been swept away was currently fiercely hugging the angry looking Jediah, and the young one's head hung low once more as the adviser's angry words dropped into the air like heated coals. Mind started to whirl once more, as he took everything in, emerging from the numbness of fear and his ordeal. Why had this happened to them? Was it truly because they had enrage the Great One by sympathizing with those who wanted to return to the correct ways, to be devout in the faith of the unicorns once more, like the Olde? They may have tainted blood, but they hadn't done anything....and yet, if this was the Compromiser's response to it, how could it be doubted? Sparowanel didn't understand how such a benevolent, fair god could still be so angry about a past crime, when those who had committed the deed had been properly and justly punished and were now long dead. But no. It wasn't his place to question such things, only to follow. He was foolish, useless, unsure. He was ashamed. Gaze flickered to the rushing red waters once more, a vivid reminder of what he had just gone through, and he focused his attention on the adults present, remaining silent and listening. What were they going to do? What could they do here? If it truly was a matter of ridding the land of the exiles that had passed Vasska's test, and the ones that tried to infiltrate with the Bachelor's...weren't other horses taking care of that already? Trained Knights and Mages, others who could fight. Oh, Sparrow was so confused.

Janice | Follower | Word count: 211
Janice couldn't believe her ears as Jediah spoke and she pinned her ears back slight to show her agitation. She was angered by his words for some reason, no one deserved pain; or did they? Feeling the branch move the mare smiled as Sparrow made it out of the water, thankful the rook was able to get out. Janice's piercing gaze noticed something strange on the stallion. He was dripping red, "Nefertiti... Look!" She said in a loud enough whisper for the other mare to hear as her eyes widened surprised at the taint covering the rook. Swirling her head as she heard Daemyn thank Jediah, the mare sighed in relief thankful they were all safe.
Once she was done with her 'oh we are all safe now' brain track she turned her attention back to Sparrow and spoke out to the advisor whom she was partial to, "Jekyll... He's dripping with something that's red in color..." She called over softly and walked up to Sparrow, sniffing his shoulder to see if she could identify it by scent. With a snort the mare through her head back and glared at the stallion's pelt, unable the place the smell it gave off, "What is it?" She wondered aloud completely and utterly perplexed.

Jediah | Olde Herd | Adviser | Captain
Jediah had looked on as the others rebutted his accusations with more misunderstood words, teeth gritting in annoyance. He had payed close attention to the rook who they were successfully dishing out of the water by now, meaning that his mind could stop racing even if only for a moment. He took a deep breath, trying to settle his panting from the effort of pulling the much bigger horse out of the water by sheer adrenaline. He didn't think he could have done it otherwise... "Yes well it would be excellent if all of you would realize-" he was cut off by a sudden mass of neck constricting around him in what he assumed was a hug. He didn't precisely know as he had never received one before but had seen others doing it. One eyebrow raised his face fell into an eerie calmness as he turned his head slightly to look at the giant Daemyn. "Daemyn?" He said cooly, as if not at all phased by the act "it's all good and well that you wish to thank me but could you do me a favour?" He clenched his jaw waiting for a response. Then he saw Janice inspecting the rook and he held back an exasperated sigh. "The whole river is red, and so is the praying pool. It would make sense that the rook is dripping SAID red liquid. The unicorn's magic knows no limits..." He added standing there looking like the spitting image of a cat who had just been thrown in a swimming pool, and feeling much like one too. His shoulder twitched at the clenching of Daemyn's neck around him and feeling the droplets of water run down his pelt was most uncomfortable. How in the name of the unicorns had he wound up in this situation?

Jekyll frowned, his sapphire gaze inspecting his surroundings. What could they possibly do to make the river return to its normal, crystal-clear surface? The adviser certainly knew bickering would not do anything to help these matters, so he remained silent as not to provoke the cousin of Vasska. Certainly he'd be exiled if he started disagreeing with Jediah. There would always be corruption worming its way through every herd, tainting the hearts of the horses of Chevalin. Perhaps this corruption had tainted the river, as well.
What if the Great Compromiser was furious? What could they possibly do to appease his wrath? They could search the river first, seeking out a source for the sanguine hue. Perhaps they really were cursed, but that didn't stop Jekyll from wanting to make sure. He glanced over at Jediah for a moment, and then he turned to look at the rook, dripping red with the liquid. What could they possibly do in this situation?
"Jediah, you're the leader in this, but I would highly suggest seeking out any sources that would cause the river to run red. If we don't find any...then we can be sure that this is a curse, right?" Jekyll muttered, grimacing slightly. Speaking up against the other adviser would not work, so perhaps a compromise was the best option. Still, he could feel the tension crackling in the air, and he wondered if Daemyn and Sparrowanel would have the energy to search the river after that. They needed to make sure th is worked for both sides, even if they disagreed with each other. He didn't want them to split up like this.

Nefertiti | Olde | Knight | WC: 223
The silvery buckskin turned to look at Janice as she called her, her eyebrows raised with inquiry. Her eyes fell on the dripping Sparrow, watching the red liquid dripping from him and staining the earth below. Looking now to her own pelt she saw the the red liquid was staining her coat, and her eyes widened in panic. Her beautiful coat was now ruined, she would have to bathe for a whole day to get every speck of red out. Giving a small, childish whimper she rose her now ruby red tail. It was a disaster, and she wanted it gone, now she was willing to try everything to do it. What could do this, physically?Turning back to the rushing red waters, she leaned down to stick her tongue in, now trying to keep the rest of her coat out of the water. The thick waters washed around her tongue, letting her taste the minerals that now flowed through them, leaving an irony taste in her mouth. Looking now worriedly to the Advisors she swallowed her pride softly. "Well, its either a deep red clay or sand of some kind or..." She paused as she felt her stomach curl with what she was thinking. Even to herself it sounded mad, so she knew it may sound very crazy to them. "Or Blood."

Daemyn | Olde Herd | Rook | Word count: 289
Dae wasn’t paying particular attention to the others. He was drifting away in his mind as he did so often, and it left him with a hollow, wide-eyed appearance, ears twisted back and almost flattening along his skull. Despite the vacant look there was a multitude of activity going on inside. He was trying to understand oh so desperately! Was the river cursed? Was it a sign? Was it a completely natural explanation that they were failing to see? Unlikely... And perhaps most importantly, if it was a sign that sympathizers were making the Great Compromiser angry, then why had Daemyn been swept along? He shared Jediah’s views, did he not? Before he could really travel any further trying to find a reason for why he had been targeted, and start doubting himself, Jed’s cool voice cut through to him. The large shiremix blinked heavily and rapidly before giving his head a light shake, which no doubt had more of the red water spraying here and there. He’d already ended the ‘hug’ and stood alongside the advisor, so he turned his large head to look at the dark stallion. “Yes? “ he replied softly, leaning in so the other wouldn’t have to raise his voice unnecessarily. Meanwhile the others were discussing the river, the color, the content, but Daemyn had nothing to add. He knew nothing of soil or minerals, and although the idea of the river being actual blood made him a little uneasy, he simply frowned darkly and lashed his stubby little.. red tail. His blond coat took to the color easily it seemed. Thankfully he was entirely unaware of how the red clung to him everywhere. He had gone under the water a few times after all.

Jediah shot a quick glance at Daemyn, feeling annoyance bubble inside him as water continued to spray and trickle down his pelt. "In the future..." he paused, closing his eyes momentarily to collect his thoughts as others spoke at him before opening them again with a warning expression, his eyes clenched into mere slits. "Would you refrain from pressing the air from my windpipe and entirely soak me with that cursed water?!" he raised his voice gradually, before taking a breath and turning his attention to Jekyll and Nefertiti. A deep sigh of exhasperation left his lips as their words registered, an expressionless gaze meeting theirs. Did they still not understand what was happening here? No natural cause could have created such an immense spread of red glow in their holiest waters. It was magic, he was sure of them. Perhaps reluctantly, he felt the need to entertain the ridiculous inquiries proposed by his herd members. Even if it was just to stop these profusely irritating theories from continuing any longer. "Very well, if that is what you propose then one of you can go back in to the rabid water and take a sample of the sand at its base. Or, if you prefer walk all the way to the praying pool and search its banks for red sand or blood... I'm sure different results will be produced there" he spoke in a monotonous tone, attempting not to reveal the hint of sarcasm lacing his mind. "Great one forgive the ones who doubt your power ludicrously, I vow to protect the faith against any sympathizers..." he muttered a prayer under his breath, unlikely to be heard by anyone but Daemyn.
