Snake I Scavenger I Bachelor
A cool drizzle pitter-pattered upon the damp earth, moistening the new growth of spring. Emerald blades of fresh grass sprung from the soil in abundance and the trees were sporting pale jade leaves that rustled in the fair breeze. Snake breathed in the sweet smell of the emerging season, pleased to be rid of the savage winter. The war had taken place only a week before, but from what he gathered, his herd was recovering reasonably well. He wondered if a second battle might take place. At first, he felt he’d been robbed of his chance to fight in the war, having been paired with an unreasonably more skilled sparring partner to attempt to prove his worth. But as the warriors had returned from the fight, filling into the summer fields broken and bloody, his mind was abruptly changed. He wasn’t quite sure it was as glorious and honorific as he’d imagined for so many years. It was brutal and dangerous beyond what he had expected. Risking his life amid a flurry of enemies who all wished to tear him to pieces didn’t sound so fun after all. He reflected on these thoughts as he trotted amiably down a dew sodden slope, following the faint scent of his herd. Or part of it at least. He emerged from a small grove of trees to find the broods grazing a short distance away, guard stallions posing as sentries dotted the valley around them. Snake continued his journey closer to them, searching with half a mind for a familiar face. Ebony perhaps? He felt it was a good thing to stop by now and then for a friendly chat…and to make sure she was still following through with their deal. He was walking along the fringes of the cluster of mares now, when something caught his eyes. Or someone. He glanced through the conglomeration of equines until he spotted a familiar appaloosa mare. Niya, was it? Yes. He remembered her from that day, not long ago, that he’d spent with her and Ebony. She was…interesting. His initial mission forgotton, the lithe stallion wound his way amid the herd until he found himself at her side, emitting a very faint nicker of greeting to let his presence be known.
(I believe its spring in Chevalin currently? I’m not positive though xP)

Niya | Bachelor | Slave
The spring rain was rather relaxing. The air wasn't too cold, making the cool water refreshing as it dripped down her faded mocha coat, leaving a striped pattern along her back. The rain wasn't too heavy to weigh down her thick curly mane either, which she appreciated. It always ways annoying when it got so wet that it clung to her neck. Not to mention it made it heavier, making it feel like she had a foal hanging on her neck as she walked. There were always ups and downs of having a long mane of course, and Niya appreciated the way it made her feel pretty enough to put up with the down-sides. Not to mention it was perfect for hiding under, which she was doing right at the moment. With her head low as she carelessly lipped at the damp grass, she allowed her thick, wavy, chocolate mane to hang over her face, concealing her from the rest of the world. When she couldn't see them, she could imagine she was standing back at Olde, grazing in the spring rain beside her mother while her father and little brother sparred not too far off. It was just a dream, this she knew, but when she closed her eyes her world came alive with the faces of those she once held dear. She could be happy during these times and though it was only an imaginary happiness, it was all she had anymore. True, she could be content while she visited with the other mares, but never happy, not while she lived under these stallions.
The only problem with her daydreams was the hit she took every time she opened her eyes and realized she was still here. No matter how many times she woke from her fantasy, it hurt just the same. Today was no different. Drawn to emerge from her imaginary world by a soft nicker she raised her head, letting her damp mane fall in a mess over her neck, small locks draped over her curved ears. Her first reaction at the sound had been to hope - as foolish a hope it was - that she had at last been found and would now be safe again. Of course her hopes were false and her heart sunk just a bit more at the sight of a Bachelor stallion: the last thing she wanted in her time of peace. Still, she would do her best to be a good girl, as she had learned was the best way to go. Lowering her head ever so slightly in submission the mare gave a friendly but forced smile, returning a quiet nicker of greeting. "Hello," she chimed softly, her voice hardly over a whisper. Snake I Scavenger I Bachelor
Snake eyed the brood with a concealed interest, his bright yellow eyes dancing across her pretty coat. He wore his own frugally scared pelt with pride, knowing with certainty it was not nearly as shabby as some of the more rugged stallions of the herd who spent the bulk of their time beating one another to a pulp. He was still young and hadn’t collected such a barrage of permanent defacements to his spotted hide just yet. His ears twitched, grasping at the faint, whispered greeting that escaped the mare’s mouth. She certainly seemed respectful, dipping her head and whatnot. He liked that. “I don’t suppose you remember me, Princess?” he asked, his silky voice harboring its usual soft, neutral tone and revealing his fancy for nicknames. It had been some time since they had first met, before the war if he remembered correctly. The recollection grew dim even to him due to the bustling explosion of activity that had taken place to prepare for the war. Of course, everyone needed a bit of fun now and then, but he’d had more important things to occupy his mind than a silly frolic through the valley. “Are you busy? I know a lovely grove not far from here with some of the sweetest clover you’ll ever taste if you care to join me.” he added after a moment, knowing full well the answer. Broods had little to do in terms of duties, others than serving the whims of stallions, and she could hardly reject his request for a small excursion in any case. He could force her, if need be, but that was no way to achieve an entertaining companion. She might only sulk. Things would go much smoother if she were to come willingly.

Niya | Slave | Bachelor
Niya's ears twitched lightly as he spoke. Princess? Well that was certainly a new one. She only wished she felt like a princess. His tone was gentle though and he seemed kind enough. She dipped her head in a slight nod in reply to his question. "Of course I do." She returned, her tone ever soft and sweet. Her grandmother had taught her no matter what was asked of her to be polite to the stallions - that it would keep her from harm. For the most part it worked... until her mouth got in the way. She didn't often let her words fly unless she felt specifically threatened though, and she was far from that as of yet. Snake, right? She wasn't sure of his name, it had been a while after all, but she thought that was what it had been. Not that it was of too much concern, she never addressed a stallion by his own name. Another lesson learned by her wise grandmother was to speak to them as "sir" and nothing else. It made them feel superior and while it boosted their egos, it lessened her chance of getting on their bad side - and you never wanted to be on a Bachelor's bad side. Her grandmother had learned that the hard way and Niya chose to learn from her mistakes instead of going through the same experience.
Busy? Well, in her mind she was. She wanted to go back to her happy fantasies where everything was perfect, but it was obvious that wasn't a choice any more. Of course she would accept his offer. What else was she to say? She was - after all - just a slave to do everything bid of her. If that included going for a walk to eat clover - and she doubted that was the whole of it - than she was to do so without question. Holding back a sigh of disappointment that her day of peace had come to an end she offered a soft grin. "Of course, I would love to." She attempted her sweetest tone, one she had been perfecting over the years. It wasn't nearly as flawless as her grandmother's but it was getting there. [words: 367]

Snake I Scavenger I Bachelor
“Right this way Miss Niya.” He nickered in a pleasant tone, fabricated to convey a friendly and perhaps gentle disposition. This was, of course, far from the truth. Did he detect a faint thread of reluctance in her otherwise sweetly acquiescent voice? Perhaps she knew her way around the game. Play nice and no one gets hurt. He refrained, for the most part, from repeated acts of senseless violence. But when things weren’t going his way he didn’t hesitate to get physical. He’d stopped a brood, Mateo, who had tried to escape the confines of the bachelor herd and found it necessary to batter her into submission. So long as they behaved though, a mare needn’t fear violence from him. As busy as he was traveling the lengths of the island, he didn’t get to keep the company of mares as often as he would have liked. He was a ladies man indefinitely and enjoyed passing his time with a pretty lass trailing him around the valley. They were less annoyingly brutish than the stallions and he enjoyed the feeling of superiority they bestowed upon him. In return, he offered flowers, small trinkets he scavenged, and companionship. That is, until, he bored of them. Snake ambled in an easy gait away from the herd and in the direction of his clover, trotting up a small incline and down the other side. The herd out of sight, he picked up his pace, stopping after a few moments at a cluster of old oaks. He sniffed along the base of the great trees until locating the sweet patch. “Here we are.” He said decidedly, looking to the brood for approval of his find. “Have you seen Ebony recently? Darling little thing isn’t she? Like a younger sister to me.” Ok. So maybe that was stretching it a bit. He found the mule mare to be pleasant company at any rate. At least it made him sound like a nice guy, right? His words were only really an attempt to trigger conversation anyway.

Niya | Bachelor | Slave
Miss Niya... another title new to her. She'd been called missy before, but not actually Miss Niya. It was disappointing that these sweet pet names came from a stallion she couldn't trust, else they might have been endearing to her. Instead they were just cruel reminders of who she was to them. As she'd noted before though, this horse... Snake if she remembered, he seemed nice. It was certainly toying with her previous images set on the stallions of the herd. She was slowly learning that there was one of every type here in the Bachelor herd. Now she had to ask, what kind of stallion was he? Quietly she followed after this horse as her mind tried to put together the pieces and solve the puzzle that he presented for her. The silence was unnerving, but she was too afraid to speak a word, especially before he chose to. Instead she kept her mouth shut, observing the direction they were going and subconsciously memorizing the way back to the herd. Just in case, you could say, though she never saw herself ever running from a stallion... even if there were times she wanted to. Thankfully this was not on of those, not yet anyways.
At last they made it to their destination, completely out of sight of the herd. It always unnerved her when she couldn't see them. It wasn't that the herd would offer her any help, but somehow she found security in being able to at least see them off in the distance. Steeling her attention back to the patch of clover she lowered her head to sniff at the greenery, giving a polite grin as she lifted her head again. "It's lovely." She approved with the sweetest smile she knew how to force. She had to admit she was surprised by his inquiry on the black mule. He seemed to quite like her, and from what she'd gathered Ebony appeared to see the stallion as an acquaintance, at the very least. Perhaps if the sweet, friendly young mule could get along with him, than she could too. She might as well try. So far he'd given her no reason to doubt she could. "I've seen her running about. Energetic little thing she is." She nodded, her voice showing just how much she had grown to like the sweet little mare.

Snake II Scavenger II Bachelor
Was she warming up to him? Where some mares were wary of any interactions among the stallions of thier own herd, others were desperate to find a friendly face. Which was she? He flicked his thick, wavy tail and shook out his mane, enjoying the warm sunlight on his back. Not for the first time that day he thought again of the little mule and wondered, anxiously, if she was keeping hey promise. But enough out such bothersome pondering, out was getting him nowhere. Besides, he had more important things to do right now... "So are you always this quite or am I just boring?" He meant it only as a joke and even offered a faint smile. "Not that I would prefer you talked my ears off...I have Ebony for that."

Niya | Bachelor | Slave
Niya's dark curved ears twitched some at the stallion's question. Her first reaction was to be frightened she was doing something wrong, that she had messed up. She was racking her brain for something to say, anything to say so he would be satisfied, until he offered the slightest of smile and added on that he didn't want her to talk his ears off. Ok, so he didn't want her to talk a lot, but she wasn't talking enough. Great, that made it harder to find the happy medium. She hardly seemed to realize he had been mostly joking. She tended to take everything they said seriously. "Oh, I'm sorry. I was just... enjoying this lovely day." She added quickly. Yeah, sure, enjoying it... well she had been, before he came. She lowered her head to take a few tentative bites of the clover, watching him every now and then while avoiding staring so not to seem rude. Still she was searching for something she could talk about instead of leaving him to start all of the conversations. She should at least try to hold up a conversation, right? The problem was she had no idea what to talk about. He seemed to like talking about Ebony... maybe she could go off that. "Are you and Ebony good friends?" She asked softly.

Snake II Bachelor II Scavenger
"You could say that. She pops up now and then when I could use a little a company." The mule mare, like any brood of the herd, was anxious of his initial aproach, but had calmed down rather quickly. "I'm not around often, mostly I'm scavenging, so I don't always get to enjoy the company of my own kind." he admitted. Thier lives were very different, it seemed. Where he was forever wandering, she we confined to the herd, never to be let out of sight of a stallion.
"Do you enjoy the confinement?" he asked finally. "Or would you rather roam the island, of it were your choice?" he asked, dark tail ttwitching.

Niya | Bachelor | Slave
"Even the most introverted need company now and then." Niya agreed passively as she nibbled at the clover. Well, she had to admit, it was very tasty, so that much was good. She could at least get something good out of this little trip. While looking for "bright sides" she supposed she could also list the fact she had a moment away from the busyness of the herd. Even though she loved the mares and had learned to tolerate the rest, it didn't mean that a little time away couldn't be appreciated.
Her ears flicked toward him at his question. Emerald eyes gazed up at him for a moment. She lifted her head, gazing out over the empty land. "If it were my choice, I'd be long gone from here." she mused almost dreamily. A heavy breath escaped her lungs and she glanced his way once more. "Though I suppose you could guess that..." She lowered her muzzle to the green clover once more. "I don't belong here." Well... if she were honest with herself, she did. She had been destined to grow up a slave. She had tried to escape, but you can't run from your own fate. She didn't want to accept that at the moment though, it would only bring her down. words: 215

Snake II Bachelor II Scavenger
Well that had certainly been an honest answer. Altogether, he was rather surprised she'd said as much, though he felt it was nice to get such a straight response. Only one other bachelor mare had made her feelings of the herd so very clear. Most mares, like Ebony, never said a word on the subject either out of fear or because they had learned to accept the life laid out before them. "What do you mean by 'don't belong'?" he pressed. Stallions had to prove thier worth, else they were shunned and seen as weak. What did broods have to prove in order to be accepted? Have a colt? Maybe he wasn't seeing things the way she had meant them? He tried to think of a more thoughtful response. "Did you belong somewhere before you came here?" he really couldn't keep track of who came and went, the faces around him were always changing.
(Sorry for all the weird spelling errors! I'm really struggling with my cell to fix them hehe) ((Also...just to get an idea as to where the plot is headed...the main idea is that he brakes her heart {if they form a relationship}or does something to betray her feelings/trust/friendship. Would you mind if we did a few rps, maybe Just little short ones if you don't have time so they get to know each other?))

She had already decided she'd said too much. She wasn't often the type to just go blabbing out her feelings to another stallion. She supposed not many even bothered having such a formal conversation with her... but still. When he pressed further she shook her head. "Never mind. I shouldn't have said anything." She had hoped that'd be the end of that, but then he had to ask a more detailed question... and one that hit almost head on, to the point it hurt some. Her heart grimaced at the thought. She gave a soft sigh. She was far too emotional for her own good. "I belong with my family, back in Olde." She didn't bother explaining the complexities of her conception here at the Bachelor herd, her prenatal escape, and her final re-capture as a young teen. It wasn't like he really cared.... right? words: 145

Snake II Bachelor II Scavenger
He noted her sudden flash of reluctance as she tried to brush off his questions, but he was intent on pestering her a little longer. So she was from Olde? Quite a few broods were from said herd it seemed. "I've never had a family, really, it's always just been me and my sire. So I guess I can't relate." he shrugged his spotted shoulders. "There are worse places than here. Like in a quiver back's stomach." he joked. "Not that I've experienced that or anything. But I did have a close call with a pack of city rats once." he wasn't sure how well his attempt to lighten the mood was going, but he layed thick his charm with the next words, complete with a guenine lining of kind. "Well lovely, I'll need to be getting back to scavenging now, but I enjoyed the company. May I walk you back home?" he inquired politely, Though he wouldn't be caught dead using such a gentle tone in front of the other stallions. He liked to tease and, when he was feeling meaner, even bully the broods, but something stopped him from pushing this mare too far. Maybe he was afraid of what might happen if he upset her. He didn't want her to be afraid of him. She had captured his interest, for a time at least. Her quite demeanor and pretty appaloosa coat were something some of the stallions might spar over, but he liked to take a more personal approach to things.

Her soft eyes glistened lightly with tears that wanted to shed, though she had gotten good at fighting them, and she did just that. She stared right at him, her heart softening just a tad when he mentioned not having a family. Family was such a lovely thing. She was so blessed to even understand the concept. At least she had that much... even if it made her miss it more. She couldn't help feeling bad for him, and honestly any of the horses who had grown up here in this herd, where family was such a misunderstood and often completely forgotten word. As much as she hated the ones who brought her here and kept her from returning home, that didn't mean her heart was so cold as to not understand that they were equine just as her, and that they had feelings. She wondered what must go on in their minds. She had been slightly distracted by her own thoughts that she didn't fully hear his attempts to lighten the mood. Something about hungry rats... or she thought that's what she had gathered. She gave a quiet, shy grin when he offered to walk her back... home. Well, she wouldn't use that word, and she was quite sure she never would, but she didn't find it necessary to correct him or mention it. She'd just change it mentally. Of course you can escort me back to my prison. Yes, that sounded much better. "Of course. Thank you." She replied softly with a polite dip of her head. She did like how he used manners, it made her feel a little less like property and a little more like a mare. words: 282 ((so sorry this took so long to reply to. But I'm back in the game. The spotted stallion kept to a slow pace on the walk back, wanting to keep shoulder to shoulder with the mare. She was rather quite and dreamy, or at least that was the impression he'd gotten. He was already considering when next he could pull her aside for himself. Soon, it would have to be soon. He'd set his sights on this mare for now and he didn't want any other stallions getting in the way of that. Their conversation, as brief as it had been, kept nagging at the edge of his mind. Family? His father had always been there to train him and offer a pillar of support, though exceptionally 'loving' was not something he would have given the old appaloosa credit for. His two best childhood friends had been like brothers to him, but now one was dead and the other had left the herd years ago. He was something of a loner amid his own herd aside from the mares he picked off now and then for company. He had never felt the need to go in search of his dam, his father had always told him she wasn't a suitable mother and he assumed it must be so. She certainly hadn't cared about him enough to seek him out and clarify his heritage. Unless of course that meant she was dead. He suppressed his thoughts and awoke back into the present world. He needed to make a good impression on the mare or she may be just as reluctant to join him the second time as she had seemed the first. He halted on the slight rise overlooking the grazing herd below. "Well, this is where I leave you." He nickered. "Have a nice day miss Niya, I do hope we can meet again soon." he added, offering her a faint smile. Manners had practically come natural to him as soon as he learned what effect they seem to hold over mares.
