"Tears Of An Angel"
Plot Niya has become far more hardened over her years as a slave. She has learned to hide her fragile heart behind a wall of harsh words and feigned spirit. That isn't to say that she's not sensitive. There are still times when the weight of the world is too much for her. One night Cethin finds her crying after being pushed around by a stallion a bit too much.
In This Thread o1. Niya played by NaporieRizia o2. Cethin played by POEDOGS
Niya | Bachelor | Slave
"You're just a heartless coward!" Niya called after the stallion who had required of her as he walked away from his act of greed, not even thinking anything about it. He hadn't even been kind to her like some, he hadn't spoken a word to her, he didn't even try to give her some sort of enjoyment. He used her for his gain and that was it. To him she had been a tool - a toy even - and it hurt more than usual because of that. He reminded her of what she was seen as, of how completely unimportant she was to them as a horse, as a living being who had a heart - a heart that ached to be loved, not used. The stallion ignored her. He had gotten what he wanted and he was happy. He simply left. "Fine! Run away! See who cares!" She yelled after him, ignoring the glances she got from other horses not too far off who could hear her calls in the dark. She didn't care. It hurt - her heart - it ached. Usually she could hide the pain by mouthing off the stallions. Usually it made her feel better, but it wasn't helping this time. She'd been hit too deep. The wound was too big. She dropped her head, staring at the grass that swayed in the midnight breeze.
"I certainly don't." her soft whisper was broken as tears chocked her. She didn't want to cry. She wanted to be strong. She'd shed far too many tears over her years here at the Bachelor herd and had sworn to herself she'd grow up - she'd be stronger now. It seemed that even when she wanted to though, there were times when it was too much for her to take. The stress and heartbreak of being a brood - of being nothing to anyone but a thing to be used - it was too much for her delicate heart. For once, couldn't someone care about her - just her - not her looks, not her body, not what she could offer, just her? Was that too much to ask? Of course it was. She wasn't important. She was a piece of property and she'd never be anything more. The thoughts continued to bombard her, making the pain all the worse. It was like pouring salt on a wound. It stung and burned, making the tears well up behind her eyes and finally to fall. They trickled down her cheeks, following the path set them by the white markings that hung under her emerald eyes.

Cethin | Scavenger He was sulking in the fields, watching with somewhat amusement at some of the pairs, frowning at others. Enjoying seeing the Exiles dart about with their foals, and the foals in the Bachelor herd playfully sparring before they bedded down from the night. The black stallion closed his orange eyes and huffed quietly, everything he saw here he could have had. It seems as if the gods had not planned it to go this way though. Cethin turned away from the sights and began to walk, slowly, like one of the elders of the herd. Like his dad walked before he died. Then there were shouts. He imagined them, they took the form of Grange and Greer. He shook his head to clear the thoughts, expecting the angry shouts to disappear. They did, but were followed closely by soft crying, soft sniffles. He flattened his ears. Being soft on this herd meant you were manipulated in some way or you were manipulating without knowing it. One choice would make it all tumble down. He went against his thoughts though and began to follow his heart. Pushing his way through the grass and sticks. There a mare stood, tears streaming down her cheeks. Cethin made no move, as to not hurt the mare now or later. But his thoughts raced, trying to find something to do to help her. So he hummed softly while watching her. A song he'd heard some of the mares singing when they were in good moods. He hoped it would calm her, stop her heartbreaking crying. He stopped though quickly, embarrassed. "What are you crying about mare? A stallion, a friendship broken, a horrible day, a lost foal?" He rattled of causes, popular causes within the herd.

The tall Friesian cross mare hardly noticed anything going on around her. She was too lost in her own thoughts to do so. All she could think about was the pain that tore about her heart, making her want to break down and let it all go. She wished for her grandmother at the moment. She would know what to say. She could comfort her and help her calm down from her foolish crying. She didn't know where the old mare was at the moment, and she didn't have the emotional strength to walk through the herd with her eyes filled with tears in order to find her. Instead she just stood on her own outside the herd, letting herself cry as she waited for it to feel better. It would, right? Eventually... it had to.
Curved ears twitched when she heard the soft humming. It was a tune she recognized well, one her gran-gran sung to her often. She lifted her head to look around, though it was then the voice bombarded her with questions. The kindness of the humming seemed to melt away. Turning around she stared at the stallion. The last thing she wanted was to be seen crying in front of a stallion. It'd just make herself look week. They'd hurt her more if they thought she was soft. Her defense quickly came back up as she sniffled, wiping the tears away with the side of her leg. "It's nothing that you would understand." she barked at him rudely, letting her tongue take control as her heart was too hurt and her mind too tired. Honestly she didn't care to tell him. When she truly thought about it she knew her reasons for crying were foolish. She had no true reason... none but that she was sad, that she hated living here, that she missed her home. They were all rather selfish reasons... but then, when you cried, wasn't it usually for selfish reasons?

Cethin | Scavenger "Anyone in this herd wouldn't listen, you must listen to understand. Without giving one the chance to comfort you one may not be able to listen and therefor is not able to understand." The stallion flicked his ears and dropped his head to graze. "I may be one of the worst at comforting, but I am one who listens." He was silent then, hopeful that the mare might so much as reveal something, something Cethin would probably relate to. He may be young but his life was already one to be on a rocky path, countless times. He didn't urge her to speak though, she looked beat up, but she had the fire that so many of the slaves lacked. She wasn't yet broken. "What is your name, then?" He said softly, quiet enough that he was sure she could only pick up the whisper of the words.

Niya blinked in a bit of surprise at the stallion's words. She had to admit she was surprise he'd show any sort of kindness... even if it was masked behind complicated words. In the long run, the message she received was that he cared enough to want to know what was wrong. His earlier inquiry hadn't been just a rude way of bringing her down farther, but of true concern. It didn't quite seem possible. Had she been mistaken? Sure, she realized that not all stallions were the same. She had been raised in a herd where stallions treated mares like royalty. It was just... well she couldn't let herself come to believe there were any stallions even slightly kind in this herd.
His question pulled her from her deep puzzlement. For a moment she only stared as she attempted to pull herself back together from her broken state. "Niya." She finally managed, her voice a soft whisper as she tried to refrain from letting it squeak.

His ears swiveled quickly to pick up the sound and he looked up, amusement flickering his eyes. The mare, she was looking at him as if he had three eyes. "You know, not all of us are that bad. I know of a few. We follow orders. I don't do much else." He picked up his head and smiled a bit quirkily to her. She was pretty, he had to admit, not his type though, besides he didn't think he could ever love another again.
"Do you have a lot of friends here in the herd? Or are you one of the loner types?" He seen her around the broodmare herd from time to time when he wasn't scouting or spying on the olde or exiles. He hardly knew much about the mares in the herd. He knew a little too much about the stallions.

His statement about them not all being that bad reminded her of how rude she must seem at the moment. She shook her head quickly, steeling her gaze off of him as she looked back down at the grass. The herd was a mix of different horses. He was right, not all of the stallions were as cruel as some. The biggest difference was that some ignored her while the others took out whatever pent up emotion they had on her. Weather they were "that bad" or not, she had still never received any sort of kindness from a stallion. It had not been expected and therefore had caught her by surprise. She felt bad for staring at him like some alien though. "Of course." She whispered softly and though her tone and the way she muttered the quiet words made it sound like a simple agreement because that was her place, she really did mean it.
Her small curved ears flicked forward when he spoke a new question for her to answer. She let her emerald eyes glance up his way. He really was trying to get a conversation going, wasn't he? She admired his efforts... as well as felt bad for only having given him two-worded replies until now. She shook her head and cleared her throat so she could actually speak a real sentence. "Oh no, I have a few friends, and even more acquaintances." Her voice cracked with the sound of someone who had recently been crying, but it was brighter in her attempt to get back up from the blue. "I try not to spend too much time alone. It gets depressing." [words: 277]

Cethin | Scavenger Her demeanor had changed, less defensive. The tall black stallion didn't smile though, it was to dangerous to show your true self nowadays. "Sounds like you do alright here Niya?" He was struggling with conversation right now. Struggling to find a meaning to be talking to the pretty mare. "Lonerdom is depressing, but being together can be painful. You'd have to choose the lesser evil." He laid in the grass, he would not be the ominous figure. The brute to tower over mares as if they were mere dogs. He would not be the "dominant" figure. "Sometimes it's nice to just sit and chat without the problems of the herd ruining your day. Did you have a herd before us?" He figured, hey he would learn something about his own herd while still being able to seem friendly. "I've been everywhere, Olde, Exiles, you name it. I did like it near the Exiles though. Their island was gorgeous, a shame it is that it burned to the ground."

Alright... yeah, she supposed that she did at least do alright. She was alive and functioning, which was good. She still knew how to smile and even laugh every now and then when with the mares, while she'd seen some mares who couldn't even grin any more. So when you put it all together, she did get along Alright. She nodded her head in agreement with his words about finding a lesser evil. It was true. When you let yourself get attached to the others, it hurt you just as much to see them hurt, and in a place like this too many others were hurt. It was a burden that she was willing to bear though. Compared with being alone, it was indeed the lesser of the evils.
Then he asked about her herd and for a moment it almost triggered the tears to begin again, but she refused to allow them too. She didn't need that kind of trouble at the moment. "Yes," her voice was soft, sober but sorrowful. "I used to live in the Olde herd," she explained. "until I was captured..." she added, her gaze falling downward to the grass.
