Evalynn | Knight | Olde
As her herd members moved slowly back towards the Riddle Mountains, Evalynn's mind was a whirlwind of emotions. She was worried sick for her injured friends, angry that through all the pain and suffering caused within the few short hours, they had come to a stalemate, and mostly, she felt numb. She swore she could still taste the warm copper tang of blood, and the cry of the mare she had killed rang in her ears. While she walked, she replayed every moment of that battle, her ears flattened against her neck as her eyes clouded over.
The paintaloosa hung towards the back of the herd, subconsciously taking up the defending position, in case they happened to be followed, but her posture showed she clearly wasn't paying attention for any threats. Her head hung low, both from her morose thoughts, as well as exhaustion. She had a hard time putting full weight on her front leg, and she could feel blood and mud caked around all of her legs. At least once they got to the ocean, she would be able to wash away most of the physical evidence of the long day.
Evalynn realized the rest of the herd had halted, and she came to a stop herself. Pricking her ears half-heartedly, she heard Vasska call out that they would be resting here. Her aching limbs were more than happy for the rest, and it took everything she had to not just fling herself onto her side and sleep for days. Instead, she moved away from the herd by a couple horse lengths, and shut her eyes, keeping her injured leg lifted as best she could. Her whole body ached, and any adrenaline that had remained in her system from the fight seemed to vanish.

Ghost | Elite | Bachelor
The spotted stallion paced around the bloody stained field in restless agony. He kept replaying the moments surrounding Robin's death, hoping to remember some detail he missed that might clue him in on what had happened. His powers of observation were usually quite useful, but being able to recall his mate's death in it's detailed entirety was more painful than the old horse had imagined. He tried to force his thoughts past that as he delved into the details from before and after that his daze had prevented him from noticing at first. Stopping in his tracks, he remembered seeing a horse with a strange coat hovering over the dying mare moments before he reached her. It was the same horse he had seen fighting Miles and Kyanos.
The realization that the Olde herd would still be in the Riddle Mountains dawned on Ghost as glanced around the field. A sense of urgency overtook him as he spotted Kyanos, standing alone one the outskirts of chaos. Perfect. "Kyanos!" He barked the younger stallion's name as he charged toward him, his heavy footfalls making the ground tremble as he ran. Skidding to a stop, he spoke to the smaller scavenger using hushed tones. "If you want to redeem yourself, come with me. Otherwise, stay here and sulk like a weanling foal." Without a second thought, the appaloosa turned t0 head towards the mountains. He would avenge his mate, with or without the help of the other horse.

Kyanos | Infantry | Bachelor Ignoring the pain in his side, he stood up carefully on shaken legs as the world around him quieted down. He could hear hooves departing slowly. The Olde Herd was leaving, did that mean they’d won? He didn’t hear cheering though. Something wasn’t right. His ear flicked this way and that as he tried to catch a conversation that might help him understand what was going on. Eventually he heard it, someone complaining. A stalemate? In other words, they hadn’t lost, but they also hadn’t won.
“Damn it!” He whispered harshly between gritted teeth. If only he could have done better. If he could have beat his own opponent he could have gone to his leader’s aid and helped finish the battle. They had been so close and yet they had failed – all because of him. No, the weight of the battle had not stood on his shoulders, but when you are as self-disciplined as he, you tend to put such loads on yourself, and that’s just what he did.
He didn’t have too long to dwell over this though. Soon he heard his name called out by a voice only slightly familiar. He swung his head around toward the heavily approaching hooves, blinking at the last of the rain that pelted his near-useless eyes. He puzzled over who this stallion could be only to realize seconds before he reached him that it was the Elite, Ghost. Oh crap, he was in trouble wasn’t he?
To his surprise though no words of reprimandation were thrown at him, but instead an offer and in some ways – in the mind of the young stallion – a challenge. A chance to redeem himself for the sake of his herd. There was no way he’d pass this down, no matter how tired he was. He needed a name in the herd, and that name could not be the one who had failed them. Without hesitation he followed after the huge stallion. He didn’t know what he was signing up for, but he was willing to give every ounce of strength left in his beaten, bruised, and bleeding body. He wouldn’t fail his herd – not this time.

Evalynn | Olde | Knight While the rest of her herd got as comfortable as they could with their wounds, Evalynn shifted her weight from hoof to hoof, unable to find rest. Her muscles felt like molten lead had been poured over them, and any time she moved her spine, the slices along her back seared. After several moments, Evalynn gave up trying to stand up, and she curled her legs up under herself, letting her injured leg lay out along the ground. She winced slightly as she settled down, but knew she was one of the luckier horses, as her wounds weren't too terrible.
Glancing back over her shoulder to her herd members, she reasoned that the Bachelor herd would be too preoccupied, and she didn't know any prevalent threats that lingered in these mountains, so without much debate, she rolled onto her side, and laid her head onto the wet grass, too tired to care about the cold starting to seep into her body.
As her eyes fluttered closed, she could feel her tense muscles starting to loosen up. She let out a weary sigh, and tried not to think about what had happened earlier, and tried not to think of what the future held... With a stalemate for the time, that meant there would be another battle, and she hoped it wouldn't be anytime soon. In fact, she hoped it wouldn't happen ever again, but she knew that was far too impossible to dream for.

Ghost | Elite | Bachelor
The massive stallion glanced back briefly to see Kyanos had taken up his offer. Good, he could use the help. The Olde herd had proven themselves a force to be reckoned with and Ghost knew they wouldn't give up any of their herd members without a fight. He marched toward the mountains slowly, but with a definite sense of purpose. He waited for the younger stallion to catch, wanting to brief him on the plan. If things went the way he hoped, they'd be back in the Summer Fields with at least one high value captive before daylight.
"This way.." Ghost murmured softly as he headed through a thick clump of brush. "The way I'm about to take us is a bit rough as far as terrain goes, but it will get us through the mountains much quicker. Stay close, and listen for my voice, I will alert you to major obstacles. I know your eyesight is poor, but from what I've seen, your hearing is beyond compare. Keep an ear out for the Olde herd. If you hear them, let me know, and we will go from there..." As he finished pushing his way through the brambles, Ghost drew in a deep breath, trying to calm the anger and distress that was still boiling under the surface. He needed to be calm and decisive if this was going to work, not an emotional wreck.'I'm doing this for you, my love...' He thought, silently forcing his emotions back into the dark recesses of his mind... [259 Words]

Kyanos | Infantry | Bachelor He picked his way stiffly and carefully after the larger stallion. The one nice thing about him being so massive was that he made a very obvious shadow to see him by. That was good too because the lighting was far too dim for him to see much of anything else. His dark ear flicked forward when the Elite began to speak, describing to him the complications of the land they were about to tread. To any it would be a challenge, to him it would be a nightmare. He nodded his head though, deciding to put his trust in this stallion he hardly knew to guide him through the darkness toward their destination. What were they going to do when they got there though? It was obvious his intentions were dark, by the tone in his voice, but what exactly they were doing was still a mystery to the young stallion who followed the great appaloosa blindly - literally.
He kept his ears alert. The one that still bore cartilage to funnel sound with constantly flicking this way an that while the other just dully twitched, though it still gathered much sound on it's own. The shallow clip clop of their hooves echoed around him in the height of the mountains but he did his best to keep his ears peeled for the sound of their sworn enemy. The walk seemed so much longer than it truly was to a half-blind young stallion who was weight down with the sleepless and strenuous last several hours he had spent fighting for what turned out in the end to be nothing. His wary, sore legs stumbled several times on the uneven ground that threatened to be the death of him, but he never fell. He was a suborn thing, that was for sure. Than again, you had to be if you were to grow up in the Bachelor herd.
After what felt like forever in silence he halted, freezing and even holding his breath as he lifted his head, his ears perked forward, listening intently. The walls of the mountain echoed the sounds of the other herd to him like a giant funnel built just for him. He could hear it all: the quite snorts, the restless shuffling of hooves, the gently reassuring voices, all unmistakably belonging to the horses they were following. "Just ahead." His voice had grown quieter as his hearing grew stronger, as if he didn't even realize how much softer he spoke. The worn, unused voice could still be heard clear enough to anyone listening, its words crackled and broken, but clear still.

Evalynn | Knight | Olde As more and more depressing thoughts seemed to seep their way into Evalynn's head, the mare sighed and tried to think of other things. She tried to think of her training, tried to trace old steps through the Silver Wood in her mind, tried to recite the commandments of the Herd, but still, her thoughts end up returning abruptly to the battle field. Evalynn snorted in frustration, and opened her eyes, giving up on rest. Her ears swiveled as she heard the other horses gathered around all slowly falling into silence, no doubt falling asleep or too exhausted to continue speaking.
There was no way she was gonna fall asleep anytime soon, even though she was exhausted physically and mentally. With a small heave, Evalynn righted herself, and lurched to her hooves, still trying not to put much weight on her front leg. Glancing back at her herd members huddled in the small clearing, she turned and decided to explore. That was what she used to do to help herself fall asleep, and she was hoping it would help now. Picking her way back towards where they had come from, she looked around to see if there were any side trails, or small caves. Evalynn walked slowly, her gait off as she gingerly stepped with her injured leg. She wondered briefly if there were any predators in the mountains, but they had yet to encounter any the first time through, or the part way back through. After a little ways out, the paintaloosa mare turned and decided to head back. It'd do her no good to get lost in these barren mountains.

Ghost | Elite | Bachelor
Ghost nodded absentmindedly as Kyanos whispered, momentarily forgetting that his younger companion was almost blind. "Good. Stay close to me. I'm going to make sure they don't even see us coming..." He trailed off slightly as he began focusing on his gift, willing himself to become unseen. The familiar tingle of magic began taking over as Ghost enveloped himself in it. He remembered the Witch saying once it was at it's full power, his gift would not only effect him, but could effect others as well. Slowly, he attempted to extend the magic past himself, watching as it caused the young scavenger to fade away from existence.
Walking closer to Kyanos, he spoke once more, sure to keep his voice low. "First time in a long while that you'll have more of an advantage when it comes to sight I imagine. Stay alert, stay cautious. There are still far more of them than there are us. We cannot afford to caught..." Ghost's voice twisted cruelly at the end as he imagined how he would break their own prisoners. "With me." He whispered, slowly trotting down the rocky mountain path. His muscles screamed at him, pleading for the old horse to just settle down and rest for a bit, all the while, his back burned and stung as every movement forced the slices along his spine to open and stretch. He wasn't about to falter; No, He had a mission to complete, and there was no way in hell he was going to leave it unfinished. He would drag Robin's murderer back to the Bachelors kicking and screaming if he had to.
Rounding a sharp corner, the massive stallion spotted the very horse he sought just a few feet down the path. If the gods were real, they were certainly on his side today. Slowing his gait, he dropped back slightly, not wanting to startle the horse with the strange coat before he was ready. Knowing the rest of the Olde herd was nearby sent a surge of adrenaline coursing through Ghost's body. It was now or never. Rearing up, he lept forward into his charge, galloping full speed toward the opposing horse.

Kyanos | Infantry | Bachelor Kyanos still felt like there was information that should be given to him. Were they planing to ambush them and take down more so the Olde would have fewer hoses to fight in the next battle? Maybe they were taking several captive? He really didn't know what it was the large horse had planned, but for now he supposed he would just go with the flow and follow his lead. It wasn't his specialty, he liked planning and strategy, though at the very least it seemed Ghost did have a strategy... he just didn't seem to find it necessary to let Kyanos in on it. If he had any questions he would just have to ask, as much as words were not his specialty. So far though the Elite had given him the information he needed to get thus far, so he would just have to trust him to continue.
The sudden tingling feeling that surrounded him was a surprise that shocked him out of his thoughts. For a moment he was struck with fear that was a product of the confusion, of not knowing. It was than he realized this feeling though. He'd only felt something similar when the witch had given him his gift. It was the feeling of magic, it had to be. His cloudy eyes blinked quietly as he tried to puzzle through everything. It wasn't until the large horse mentioned his having an advantage of sight. That's right! Ghost's gift was invisibility, wasn't it? Could he turn him invisible as well? He must have. Kyanos' heart raced at this possibility. At last he wouldn't be the one at a disadvantage because of his poor sight. No, in fact the shadows he saw would be far better than the nothing they would see. For a mere instant he found himself wishing this would have been his gift instead. That thought didn't last long though. No, he was glad to have his hearing. This was a wonderful opportunity but without his ears he would not be able to get around, weather he could be seen or not.
And then it was time to go. Ghost's shallow whisper came easily to his listening ears and with a simple nod he followed down the side of the mountain. He kept his head low to attempt to see the ground the best he could and followed almost directly behind the larger horse. By listening to the pattern of his footfalls it helped him to know when there was a step up or step down. His tactic was not perfected yet and thus he stumbled several times on the way down, but it was enough to keep him from falling on his face. He couldn't have been happier when they finally reached flatter ground. He had no time to dwell over his relief though. Just as they rounded a corner the large body he followed so closely grew taller before charging. Perking his ears forward Kyanos shook off his surprise and took off after him as fast as he could comfortably run on the unfamiliar ground. This was it. Whatever they were doing this was it and it was now that he would be able to make up for his failure.

Evalynn | Knight | Olde As Evalynn began walking back towards her herd, and deeper into the mountains once more, she was almost sure she could hear hoof beats that did not sync up to her own hooves. Her ears swiveled to and fro, trying to discern if she was actually hearing another horse, or if her mind was just playing tricks on her exhausted being. Looking around however, she could spot no other creature at all by the light of the moon, and could see no shadows moving. It must just be her mind playing tricks on her.
As she continued her trek back to her herd, she stumbled as her leg gave out slightly, and cursed. That damn stallion must've bit harder than she'd originally thought, if it was giving her this much trouble even now. While she was stopped, she lifted her leg, and flexed it slightly, trying to work out some of the soreness and tenderness. Satisfied for now, she figured if it was giving her too much trouble come morning light, she could see if one of the healers could help it just enough for her to walk without almost planting her face in the ground every few steps.
Another echo of hooves clipping against the ground caught her attention, and this time, there was no mistaking the sound. The beats were seemingly thunderous in the silence of the night, and as Evalynn whipped around, she could not for the life of her find where the hell the hoof beats were coming from. As her ears flicked, she could hear a lighter set of hoof beats, but her major concern was finding out just where the hell they were coming from and if they were trouble. Her ears folded against her neck, and she stood tall, unwavering to whatever threat may come. If it was just one of her herd mates who managed to slip past her, than it was no big deal. But on enemy territory, she was gonna play it safe and assume it was a threat. Her eyes snapped about, unable to find where the hoof beats- which were steadily getting louder and closer- were coming from.
