Jediah - MythicalPrancer Tierra - FreedomOnCanvas
Tierra: It had rained all night, but as morning came it had finally stopped and the sun had broken through the clouds. Now the soft morning light was being reflected by thousands of little raindrops resting on the buildings and plants crowding the Olde City. It was a beautiful sight and the perfect time for a calm morning stroll. Which was exactly what Tierra was doing. The little mare made her way through the city, going nowhere in particular, enjoying the beauty of the world around her. She felt the serenity deep in her bones which for the honey coloured busy-body was a not often occurring happening. And for this once she enjoyed every bid of it.
She didn't realise where she was until she stumbled upon the Praying Pool. It was a beautiful place and the glowing water was mesmerizing, but most of the time the Pool was crowded with Olde members so Tierra didn't come there a lot. The herd was pretty lenient with allowing her and other loners on their territory, but the little mare doubted they would be so trilled if she interrupted there praying sessions... ...and honestly she never understood the whole praying thing anyway.
Tierra walked over to the shore of the Pond and dipped her head to drink a bit of the water. It was then that she noticed a figure kneeling by the pond at a little distance from her. For a moment her heart jumped thinking that the dark horse was hurt, but as the mare came a little closer she saw that the horse seemed to be very concentrated, blabbering words she could not hear. Must be an Olde Tierra thought as she slowly walked closer to the kneeling stallion. She stopped a few steps away from the horse, kind of expecting to be noticed. When that didn't happen the little mare became unsure of what to do. She didn't want to startle and possibly piss off the stallion by suddenly speaking up, but just standing here was even weirder...
She softly kicked a small stone, making it bounce against a few other stones before it fell in the water right next to where the dark stallion was kneeling. "Sorry..." the palomino mare muttered softly making her presence known.

Jediah:
The moist, rain coated grass was not enough motive for Jediah not to kneel when he prayed. Not only had it become a habit, it helped him focus on his prayers and made him feel more connected with the praying pool. The advisor had always been the first awake in the early morning to travel there, as he preferred his peace without interference of the other herd member's mumbles. He understood that he was not a quiet prayer himself, and perhaps it made him a bit of a hypocrite, but he simply preferred to be the only one in the surroundings mumbling his prayers. Besides, he often prayed about his personal conflicts and that was none of their business. Here he laid again, trying to chase away the demons nobody knew of. He was deeply ashamed of his growing enchantment with his brother's betrothed and it had begun to cloud his judgement more than he had expected it to. What a horrid sin it was...
Just then his ear twitched, the sound of a small clattering stone landing near him had broken his concentration and brought him back to the now. Only when he opened his eyes Jediah noticed the deep frown that marked his features, and he was sure his thoughts had caused it along with being disturbed. Looking up to the culprit, he half expected yet another Olde rookie had come to him seeking advice. When would these young ones understand he was a council to the king only! Not to whoever was having trouble with their undying crush on a loner or having their 'best friend' be angry with them. Such petty matters... With a disgruntled noise he attempted to identify the figure standing above him. Turquoise eyes scanning her features and for a moment, his face fell into one of surprise and then suspicion. Of course, he never paid much mind to all of the faces of the herd but he was entirely positive he had never seen this delicate creature before! With one quick fluid movement that sounded a lot like twigs cracking, Jediah stood up. He wasn't about to lay there defenceless to a stranger, even if it was a mare. "Yes?" He answered with the raise of a brow. "You are not from here, am I correct? What business do you have at our praying pool?" Jediah paused for a moment, sliding into a half circle around her looking for tell-tale signs as to what herd she belonged to but he saw none. "Are you a spy sent by the bachelors for the oncoming war?" he eyed her up and down a little as he stopped in his tracks with a bit of a sneer. "No, they would never send a mare to do their dirty work. Let alone trust them... Too much risk for those brutes to manage.."

Tierra:
The little mare watched the strange stallion jump up from his knees. Turquois eyes, even lighter then her own, locked on to hers. And they didn't seem to be happy to see her... She shrugged at his accusations, almost impressed that he could come up with such an ridicules idea. Then she smiled, "Bachelors don't send mares to do their dirty work..." Tierra turned her head to watch the dark stallion as he circled around her and continued with one lifted eyebrow and a cheeky smile; "and I like to believe that IF I were to spy I would be skilled enough not to get caught..." She turned her body so she once again stood face to face with the stallion. She noticed he had a metal chain hanging from his ear to his nose, distracting the attention from his grumpy face and piercing eyes.
"May I point out that I came over to talk to you and that if I would have been up to no good that it would have been much easier to walk around you as you were way to concentrated to notice me?" The little mare giggled. The stallion in front of her seemed to be the stereotype stuck up Olde member, but on a beautiful morning like this nothing could ruin Tierra's good mood. She didn't know what, but something about this strange stallion intrigued her...or maybe it was just that he seemed set on not liking her and Tierra couldn't resist a challenge...
The little mare gave him a big innocent smile as she spoke again, "My name is Tierra, I have lived on the Olde island for most of my life but indeed I'm not a part of the herd. What is your name?" She threw her head to keep her forelock out of her face and looked at the stallion with questioning eyes and an encouraging smile.

Jediah The dark coated stallion swivelled round slightly as she turned to face him again, watching her intently. "Not all spies know how to advance in a stealthy manner" he added, observing how the cheeky smile spread over her face. These youngsters, he thought, so full of naive confidence. Then he paused. "I suppose you are right in that... However, there is always the possibility that you could not obtain the information you needed simply by passing by" he replied with a hint of lingering suspicion in his voice, though he was starting to believe she did not pose a threat to his herd. There was something about her... Perhaps it was the likeliness of the pale coat, long trailing mane and delicate features of his Queen or- Perhaps it was the fact that she did not seem phased by his ugly appearance or distant mannerisms. She simply smiled as if he had not glared maliciously at all. It was safe to say he was taken aback by it. "My name is Jediah, advisor to his majesty the King and coincidentally also his cousin" his eyes flicked to the praying pool and then back to her with a calculating expression. "If I understand correctly, you are a wanderer then? A loner?" his brows furrowed deeper now raising his head to tower over her with a look of spite but also a reminiscent pain. "While it is admirable for such an outlaw to come seeking suck a holy place, I do not appreciate your mockery of our religion by doing so. Frankly, you loners are all the same. Not to be trusted in the slighted." He spat the word loner, as if it were like acid on his tongue, and turner his shoulder to her to glare out of the corner of his eyes.

Tierra:
"Advisor to the king? pretty impressive..." Tierra answered. She did not care much for ranks, but being an adviser must mean one was pretty smart so that was a good quality...
The little mare blinked in surprise by his sudden outburst towards loners. "I never..." she started comeback but interrupted herself realising that she had wandered to a holy place without giving it any thought (or prayer), that would probably count as mockery to the religion... but she never broken a law! no wait... not completely true either.
Visibly searching for a way to finish her sentence the mare fell silent for a few seconds. When she couldn't come up with anything better then; "SOME loners might come here for the right reasons and it is not nice to call that mockery" she looked around to the Praying Pool. Then she sighed quasi-dramatically in defeat. "You're right, I'm sorry for offending you by coming here...I never even prayed before." Tierra turned around to the Praying Pool and walked up to the shore. With a new found smile full of curiosity she looked back at Jediah. "What do you say when you pray? You speak to the unicorns right? Do you honor them or ask them to come back or something? How do you start?" a waterfall of questions suddenly came out of her mouth and when Tierra starts talking like that, she has a hard time stopping. She remembered seeing Jediah kneel, but that seemed such an uncomfortable position..."Do you have to kneel? or is that just your choice? Do all Olde members come here?" Even my mother? it was that question that got stuck in her throat and stopped the flood of words.
Tierra hadn't thought about her mother in a while now, she hadn't even realised that the deceased mare was still so alive in her unconscious mind. The palomino mare fell silent, drowning in memories as she imagined a younger, happier version of the mother she remembered, laughing and praying with her herd members by the Pool. What would she have prayed for?

Jediah A smug look came over his face as she called his rank impressive, it was after all the only thing he was proud and confident about. He watched her intently for a moment after she had trailed off, wondering what she wanted to say. When she moved, his eyes trailed after her as curiousity and confusion sparked inside him. Another look of shock coming over his face when she said she had never prayed before. "What?!" his eyes went a little wide "how could you have possibly spent so much time in the Olde herd and not prayed? Not even once?" His tone of voice matching his bafflement he took a step forward. When she bombarded him with questions, he could do nothing but blink through the whole wave of them. His mouth had fallen agape slightly and his eyebrow raised high, it was rare for Jediah to be so expressive with any other emotion that wasn't anger or annoyance. "Well..." It took him a moment to collect his thoughts and be able to answer. "It varies from individual to individual when you talk about prayers, they can be very specific... We usually address the great compromiser at first and then continue with what you need to pray for. We do pray for their return but also for protection, good fortune, health, loved ones or... Forgiveness..." his voice grew quoted with the last word as his turquoise eyes gazed into the praying pool. "It is not neccessary to kneel but-... Wait!" He shook his head as if waking himself from a trance "why on earth should I tell you this? It is not as if you actually care for the religion. No, you're asking me for your own amusement aren't you?!" he growled a little in annoyance that he had said anything at all and took a step towards her with his ears flat in his neck. "Watch the foolish Olde stiff fuss about something you find ridiculous? Pah! Well I hope you had your fun for the day..." he gritted his teeth and turned to walk away.

Tierra:
Tierra concentrated on every word that came out of the black stallion's mouth, absorbing the new knowledge like a sponge. She had always been one that liked to learn about the thoughts and habits of others. She may had never prayed before, but as Jediah talked about it with so much care and passion, she began to understand comforting it must be to be able to share your troubles that way and believe that you and your loved ones are protected by a higher power.
Jediah's outburst came completely unexpected and made the little mare jump from shock. She flattend her ears in reflex as he stepped towards her, but then he turned started walking away. For a moment Tierra was dumbfounded. What is his problem?! "There is NOTHING foolish or ridicules about believing in something!" She suddenly yelled, making sure her voice would reach the stallion walking away from her. "YOU are the only one here judging others calling them outlaws and untrustworthy! Hypocrite! The little mare took one deep breath. "Grumpy Old Hag!!"
Tierra almost bid her tongue, surprised at her own outburst. She stood there panting, unsure off what to do next. She couldn't remember ever having lost control like that. Disorientated she shut her eyes trying to make time go back just a few minutes. She opened one eye, half hooping it had worked, but then ofcourse realizing it hadn't. Embarrassed with herself she dropped her head preparing for another outburst of the stallion...and this one she did deserve...

Jediah As he walked away with a deep frown, a sudden yell reached his ears and caused him to stop in his tracks for a moment before continuing on with a few hesitant steps. The last thing he had expected was for the chirpy mare to have an outburst like that, but it was her words that struck him. "What did you say?" Jediah stopped again and spoke in an eerily calm tone with her last insult. He whirled himself around and started creeping back to the place where she stood, taking long fluid strides that made him regal but intimidating at the same time. "Of course, I could have no possible reason to think so... Could I?" he sneered sarcastically. "It's not like there are others of you who steal and deceive, aiming to use the members of an actual herd as mere throwaway chew-toys!" he snapped with his last word. "and just because I am scarred, ugly and worn does not mean I am old!!!" Jediah stomped his hoof to the ground, teeth grinding and eyes flashing with a hint of regret at his last words. He closed his eyes, many emotions tearing through him as his face fell and he turned to walk away again. His eyes remained closed as he listened to the sound of his torn hooves slushing over the ground.

Tierra:
The little mare stared at the ground throughout the stallion's outburst. Regret over her own loss of control grew inside of her with every word Jediah shouted. She did not know what he was talking about, but she could hear the pain in his voice. It still isn't right... Tierra thought silently as she heard the black stallion rage on as if knowing evil loners justified calling all loners evil.
As she heard him away the mare lifted her head slightly and without thinking about it she followed him. "Stealing and deceiving is not limited to Loners..."Tierra whispered so softly she wasn't sure if Jediah could hear her. "Nor is kindness limited to herd members."
She looked at the stallion from the corner of her eye still keeping some distance as she continued to follow him. Only now did she notice the scars he had talked about. "...and I never said anything about you being ugly..." a careful smile appeared on her delicate face. "You shouldn't think about yourself like that..."

"That doesn't change the fact that trust needs to be earned, not expected" he sighed and glanced over his shoulder at her "there are too many of you who don't deserve to be trusted, for it can be a fatal mistake. Loners are not part of a herd because they do not wish to conform to our rules but rules is what keeps everyone from slipping into chaos" he added glancing back at the floor before he had realised the mare was following him and he tried to walk faster. "It does not matter whether you worded your thoughts or not" he frowned harshly "forget what was said here and continue on your travels".

Tierra:
Tierra furrowed her eyebrows thinking about what the stallion said. It wasn't that his thinking was wrong...but it contradicted the way she saw things. "Hmm" the little mare mused "but...what if you die because you didn't trust the person who would have saved your life?" She asked. She had met a quite a lot of horses in her short live, loners as well as herd members. Most of them where really nice and helpful, if she would have been in trouble she was certain that almost all of them would have helped her. "I guess I'm the type to trust everyone until they prove me wrong." Tierra smiled speaking at a normal volume again. She was happy that Jediah didn't seem to be the type to stay in a state of rage for longer than a few seconds. "You just need to trust your instinct with things like that." The little mare continued chatting happily to her not so willing companion.
For a moment Tierra was once again at a loss of words due to the strange conclusions the black stallion jumped to, then she started laughing. "Cool! You can read my thoughts now? But I got to disappoint you, you are wrong. It never crossed my mind to think of you as ugly and if it did I would probably have said something...I'm tactful that way.." She shrugged and smiled as if to say 'what can you do about it?' The little mare continued to walk beside the stallion, smiling again and completely ignoring his attempts to get rid of her.
"I guess we loners don't like to be told what to do and who to follow... though I'm mostly a loner because I like to travel around. Have you ever even seen the other Islands?" She asked changing topic.

Jediah | Olde Herd | Advisor
As she matched his hurried pace Jediah sighed, choosing to allow her excessive talking to continue rather than interject. Though, some of the words she spoke jabbed knives into his calm composure. "It is foolish to trust blindly. Trusting until that trust is broken leads to dangerous consequences but I suppose you are too young to have learnt such a weighted lesson..." He frowned a little and glanced at her before looking away.
"No one who is going to save my life would wait to be trusted first of their intentions are only to do that." He spoke more at the ground than he did at her as he refused to make eye contact. It was when she spoke of Loners again and their lack of conforming to a herd lifestyle that he found himself stopping in his tracks. "Yes. You wanderers don't like being told what to do, do you?! It is precisely the manner that you travel from island to island causing unwanted complications that makes us despise your kind. You do not care of the consequences of your actions because it is so simple to turn and move on with your travels without even looking back. Your friendship and sympathy is fleeting at best..."
He paused for a long time after that sentence and turned his face away from her, trying to think of a place where she would not follow. "No, I don't care for seeing the other islands for I have visited them in the past and found nothing of interest." He lied.

Tierra:
The palomino mare rolled her eyes and signed. She had met Bachelor stallions with better control over their temper than this guy... What is his problem anyway?? He seemed to have a serious issue with loners as his rage fleared by the mention of them. Tierra glanced up at the black stallion and let her eyes wander over the scares covering his ears and troath. He had called himself ugly and worn... maybe the scars were connected to his hatred for loners. For once Tierra was wise enough not to ask. And now he's calling loners shallow?! The little mare was to shocked to be mad. Never had she met anyone as quick to Judge as this guy. "Yes, cuz you must have so many meaningfull friendships and deep relationships" She shot back at him. This quy had written 'loner' al over him. Tierra chuckled at the ironie of that.
Then she looked up at Jediah suddenly interested again. "So you have been to the other Island before! You don't hear of many Oldes who have...Isn't that against the rules or something?" Tierra was all smiles again. "Why did you go? What where you looking for?" She asked.
