Though I'm Weary and Bloody
Plot Victor at last against their previous opponent, there is no time for the weary warriors to rest. The job is not done. The war has not been won. Tired and hurting they must shove aside the demands of their battered bodies in order to fight once more for their herd. Mustering what strength they have left Kyanos and Evalynn lock onto each other and before either can hardly regain their breath they find themselves into yet another heated battle.
In This Thread o1. Kyanos played by NaporieRizia o2. Evalynn played by stray-thought
Kyanos | Bachelor | Infantry
The young grey stallion stood on shaky legs, gasping with his head hung low between his knees. Each breath he took sent pain through his side where the larger stallion had rolled on top of him. For sure several of his ribs were bruised, in fact he'd be lucky if a few were not fractured. Hot blood trickled from the fresh wounds he had received from his competitor, mixing with the rain as it clung with the mud to his coat. He'd done it! As tired as he was, the fact that he had managed to win against the brute sent a bout of energy throughout his worn body. It was a good thing too, because the war was not over yet. Horses from Olde still stood, meaning they had not won - not yet. Taking in a deep, painful breath Kyanos rose his head to sit tiredly upon his broad shoulders, standing tall once more. The rush that accompanied his victory was enough to present him with his second wind, and just in time.
It was time to fight again. The shape of a horse formed in the dim light of the slowly rising sun that promised to chase away the shadows of the night. If only it could chase away the signs of the war. Even with his fuzzy vision he could see bodies scattered about the battle field. He couldn't tell how many were alive and how many had given their lives, but it was still a sorrowful sight. He was glad for once that his eyes refused to show him details. He didn't want to see the blood that he could smell, matting the coats of the bodies, mixed with the mud that had turned the field into a soupy mess. He didn't want to see the damage done - damage so great that it caused cries and screams to meet his ears from every direction. He didn't want to see the sorrow for the lost loved ones that he could just feel in the air. It was a war and he wished not to see it. Living it was plenty for him.
What he did want to see though was the horse that would become his next partner in battle. He hated this way of running wildly toward the enemy and only being able to decide his plan of attack moments before he reached them as they came into sight. Sure, it made him very unpredictable, which had turned out to be an advantage in his last fight, but he didn't like not being able to plan ahead. He lived by formulating tactics and this new approach was making that completely impossible. His ears though, they had come in great handy. This new gift from the witch was becoming more useful than he could have predicted. He could literally hear his enemy's breathing and their every step as they approached him, giving him that advantage to make up for the disadvantage of a lacking sight.
The young stallion gave a heavy snort when his alert ear picked up the sound of footsteps in the mud. He quickly swung his head around, narrowing his ghostly eyes to peer in the direction of the stranger. He waited, straining to see if they were friend or foe. It was then that a bolt of lightning struck through the sky, lighting the world around him just enough to see the shape of the horse as they lingered in the distance, probably catching their breath as well after a hard fought battle. He wouldn't give them that chance though. With a loud whiny he charged toward them. Blinking against the rain that pelted into his face and ignoring the pain of his weary body he ran to face his next opponent.

Evalynn | Olde | Knight After the blue roan appaloosa had knocked her back, Evalynn managed to gather her energy and quickly plan and execute a way to take the stallion out of the fight. Now that the first bout of adrenaline was out of her system, Evalynn felt tired, so very tired. The rain pelting her body felt like little razors against her battered and bruised body, and it showed no signs of stopping. At least the sun was rising, making it easier for her to see. In the pre-dawn light, the fight with the first stallion had strained her eyes a bit, though she was able to fight. Now, she could focus all of her energy on the war, rather than trying to see.
She turned, noticing that her battle with the stallion, had been near the edge of the circle of fighting. As she looked around, the once tall sea of grass had been trampled down by dozens of hooves, and now, littered bodies. Her heart sank as she saw Bachelor AND Olde horses now laying prone in the mud. She couldn't see who exactly had fallen, but it seemed more Olde had fallen than Bachelor. She had to keep fighting! If they lost, who knew what would happen..
It was then, that a bolt of lightning lit up the world around them, illuminating the battlefield in all of it's bloody glory. And the scene was even more tragic than she could process. However, a body charging towards her made quick work of pushing all else from her mind, and once again, it felt like her blood had fire racing through it as she let out her own battle cry and charged as well. As they neared, Evalynn planted her front hooves into the mud, little droplets of mud coating her already dirtied pelt, and spun, kicking her back hooves out to try and catch the stallion in the head. She was already injured, as she was sure this horse was too, and she knew this fight would have a loser sooner because of the injuries. But she had to be sure it wasn't her.

It wasn't long after his charge that he heard the thundering of hooves advancing his way to meet him in the middle of the battlefield. His breathing was uneven and sharp as he naturally attempted to refrain from taking too deep of a breath. His ear perked forward, listening closely to every little movement the other horse. He paid attention to everything, the thudding of her hooves, the panting of her breaths, there were times he even thought he heard the beating of her heart. Then came the slick skid of her planting her hooves into the mud just before she reached him. He could partially see the shadow of her body in the dim light of the morning as she swung around. She's going to kick! He warned himself, ordering his tired muscles to take quick action. He dug his hind legs underneath himself, his hocks sinking into the mud as he lifted his head quickly, half rearing to protect his face from her hooves. It was a good reaction, but he couldn't escape from getting a hard knock to his cheek, throwing his head to the side as the rest of his body followed. He swerved, quickly catching himself and side-stepping to escape any other kicks from her. He couldn't remain distanced though, he needed to get closer so that he could see better, so he knew what he was up against. Heck right now he didn't even realize he was fighting a mare. If he did, he might have changed his tactics, or at least he would have wished too. For the sake of the battle, it was probably best that information remain unknown.
Quickly he veered back around to face her. His hooves slid in the slick mud and his legs strained to keep him standing as he threw himself at the body of his opponent. His teeth flashed as he reached to bite at her neck, hoping to get a good enough grip that he could hold her still and avoid any unexpected attacks on her part. At the same time he kicked out his front legs toward her own legs. It was hard to see well enough to get good aim but he threw all the force his tired muscles could muster behind the kick so that if he made a clean hit, he could make her lame. Keeping her close and immobilizing her, those were his plans. It had worked last time, even with a stallion so much bigger than him, it could work again. He only hoped that this other horse was as tired as he was. He wouldn't be fighting with quite the vigor as the last battle, he just hoped it would be the same with his enemy or else he was in trouble.

Evalynn | Olde | Knight The paintaloosa felt her hoof connect to the stallions' cheek, but as she turned, she realized she hadn't hit hard enough to incapacitate him. She let out an irritated cuss, and as he turned to face her, she planted her hooves deep into the churned mud, and tossed her head defiantly. A flash of pale lightning struck again in the distance, and showed her that he was lunging towards her throat, his teeth gleaming in the electric light. Immediately, she jerked away from his snapping teeth, raising up off her front legs slightly. At the same time, she saw his legs strike out, and she pulled her legs close to her chest, his hoof catching her own, chipping away a piece of her hoof, but otherwise mostly harmless. She realized had the kick hit one of her legs, it could very well have taken her out of the battle. As she came back down, she twisted her body, and danced just out of his striking distance. She had to think her moves through, but with the fight moving quickly, it was hard to do.
Evalynn figured this horse would be aiming for her legs, and neck, the two quickest ways to take another horse down. But if she did the same thing, it would come down to who was able to strike faster. And she wasn't sure if she would be the faster horse, not while she was tired from the first fight. So, she would have to go for spots that didn't take a horse down quite as quickly, but just hit him repeatedly. She would have to move fast, strike hard, and not let up.
With that thought in mind, she raced straight towards the stallion, crying out with a shrill whinny, and as she came right into his striking distance, she veered, and ran around to his right side, and slammed her heavier body into his ribcage, and aimed a bite at his hind leg. Her tired muscles seemed to scream at her, begging for a break, but she could not afford to let up.

Kyanos | Bachelor | Infantry His teeth clacked loudly as they hit nothing but air, missing their mark by more than a little. The sound echoed in his head, mocking his failed attempt to finish this already. The sharp sound of his hoof hitting hers also informed him that he'd missed that mark as well. This was not going well. She was quick, so he needed to be quicker. He didn't mind that the battle was moving so quick, that they were thrashing around and throwing attacks too fast to take a breath. If he stopped for even a moment to rest he felt he'd never get himself moving again. It was just better this way. Thankfully he had trained himself in stamina. He had learned long ago that his foalhood dream of being the fastest horse in all of Chevalin would never become a reality. How could one run without sight of where they were running? NO, instead he'd begun training himself in stamina - something common in his breed - and strength - something a bit less common. In this case though he felt even the stamina he had worked so hard at was turning out to be useless.
The short silence that followed when the mare pulled away was only enough for him to regain his head before she came charging at him. His ear was perked forward as he observed what she was doing, hoping to piece together before she reached him. Squinting to try and see her form just as she reached him. He quickly began to rear up when he noticed her coming straight for him... and then she veered. The larger horse slammed against his already aching side, forcing a pained cry from between gritted teeth as he twisted away, using the force of the hit to help move him. He felt teeth against his back leg and quickly kicked up, shoving the point of his hock right up into her chin and then kicking his hoof for her throat, hoping he'd make her gag so he'd have a distraction. Not waiting to see if he'd hit his mark though he swung right around and ducked his head, mouth agape and aiming for a front leg.

As Evalynn's body collided with the stallions, she felt her teeth successfully sink into his leg before his hock quickly came up to jam her jaw closed with a sharp 'click!'. She saw his hoof coming to kick at her throat, and she tried to twist away from his hoof, but wasn't quick enough, and felt it slam into her throat. She let out a pained whinny and started to rear up when he spun and caught her leg in between his teeth. Gritting her teeth, she twisted her foreleg to try and yank away from the stallion, feeling the thin skin around her leg tear as she jerked away. The cool air seemed to slice into her leg as blood poured from wound, and she pinned her ears back. If he got in one or two more attacks like that, she'd be done.
Evalynn backed away from the stallion, and let the fire in her veins take shape. As she stood there, small bursts of fire appeared on either side of her body, far enough away that it wouldn't singe her coat, but close enough to almost act like a shield from side attacks. Forcing the pain in her leg from her mind, she rushed towards the stallion again, in the same pattern as last time, but as she turned to veer, she watched to see if he'd fall for her trick, and jerked back, running at him straight on. She skidded inches from him, and reared up on her hind legs, and thrashed her front hooves, hoping to catch him in the head.

The loud click of her teeth as they were forced together met his ears with a sound of success. That was one target hit. Moments later his teeth came into contact with the bone and flesh of her leg. Finally he'd made a clear hit. He bit down harder, with all the force his jaws would allow, even as she twisted her leg and tore her leg from his grip. The fowl taste of iron filled his mouth but he shoved it aside. He was finally getting into the swing of this "stallion's" dance. He could do this. A few more hits like that and he'd win this one again. That was good too because with each passing moment he grew more and more tired. He just had to...
No! She backed away and he blinked to see her shape. Damn! He had wanted to keep his opponent close as to calculate their every movement. Even if she wasn't all that far from him, it was enough. He took advantage of this moment though, allowing himself to catch his breath as he stared toward the dark blurry shadow that he was quite sure was his attacker. Suddenly though there was light. He took a surprised step back at the appearance of the flickering flames on either side of the horse, illuminating them and outlining their form for him to see. Fire! He was both frightened by this new discovery as well as grateful to have the extra light with which to see. The other horse came charging at him, and this time he could see her better. He didn't have to try and predict which way she was going by her hoof-falls but could watch her silhouette as it ran at him. He braced himself, waiting - and then she turned. Able to see this small movement he could predict her attack and quickly veered to the side to catch her off guard... only, it was he who would be caught off guard. For the first time it seemed not having sight would have helped him as he fell for the trick. Noticing too late that she didn't intend to veer he tried to correct himself and duck away, but it was futile.
As hoof came into contact with skull his whole world came crashing down. A loud echo rang inside his head and for a moment his vision failed him completely. Left in the dark with his head spinning he couldn't tell which way was up and which was down. He fell with a large grunt of pain as he landed on his already aching ribs, knocking the breath out of his tired lungs. With the air he felt his spirit fly from him, jumping away as if for fear - probably running for its life. His tired body refused to go on any farther and the thought of standing made him sick. He lay flat on his side, gasping every unsteady, painful breath. Panic was clear in the storm of his cloudy eyes as he glanced around, trying to make sense of the black world. Another bolt of lightning flashed, making his hair stand on end, though he thanked any deity that might be that he had seen the bright light tearing across the sky. He wasn't lost to the dark... not yet. He gave a quiet sigh of relief, but than he remembered the reason he was laying in the mud in the first place - his challenger.
Suddenly stricken with the fearful realization that he might be killed he rolled upright, trying to pull himself to his hooves. His legs failed him though and he immediately stumbled back into the mud. His ear lay flat against his pole in determination and desperation as he gave another failed attempt to command his wary muscles, but it was no use. His head still spinning and his body battered and broken he couldn't pull himself back up. Kyanos let out a shaken breath as he let himself sink back down into the mud. This was it - his end had come. He would die. Too tired to care anymore he thought maybe it was better that way. At least now he would not be left alone in this cruel world. Maybe he could rejoin his mother. Or maybe he'd just disappear, fading out of existence. Either way he didn't mind. He closed his eyes as he awaited the Olde "stallion" to end his misery.
