Mystery encounter
Tierra: The sun stood low in the sky colouring the scenery in beautiful red and orange shades. The day was coming to an end as the group of loners wandered deeper and deeper into the unknown lands. As Tierra looked around she noticed that the group had slimmed down quite a bit. There were four of them left, five if you included Ba'yagu. She smiled at a grey-white mare she had not yet talked to. "hello, it is quite the adventure isn't it?" Tierra said softly trying to start a conversation. The palomino mare looked around and noticed a pond not far ahead of the group. They had been walking since morning without much rest and Tierra suddenly felt how tired and thirsty she was. They probably wouldn't take a long break, but a sip of the nice, refreshing water would definitely do her and the others good. "You think the water is clear?" She asked, thinking out loud. "It looks clear..." The little mare quickly glanced to the Witch and then made her way to the pond. When she decided that the smell of the water was pure, Tierra started drinking with big gulps. Completely refreshed again she lifted her head to invite the others with a big smile. "The water is real nice! You shou...." At that moment she noticed some strange tracks on the ground next to where she was standing. The mare fell still and brought her head lower to the ground to inspect the tracks better. "What do you think made those..?" Her tone had suddenly become serious.

Nimh was walking along the sidelines of the group. She kept glancing back and around, worrying about Bishop, the stallion she had left behind as she escaped from the Perditim moose calf. While her rational sense told her that Bishop was a large, strong stallion and would most likely be just fine, it was nagging at her mind. She had told Ba'Yagu that she wanted to circle back, but the witch had been very insistent that the remaining group stay together. Nimh had obliged with gritted teeth, hoping she'd see the shape of the large stallion any time she glanced around. She was feeling on the edge, and the constant company of others made her even more nervous. She needed space and time, but there just wasn't going to be any. Yet she was way too stubborn to stop, she felt she absolutely had to see what was behind the next turn. Of course she was worried about it, wishing the witch would be more open, but overly curious as well. From time to time she thought of the horses that belonged to herds and how they were doing. Was Ryder still alive, for example? Was Nimh ever going to get back to see the wartorn lands again?
Nimh's lavender gaze shot up at the pale mare's words. She formed somewhat of a half-smile, trying to look polite at least.
"Hi. Yes, it certainly is", Nimh responded simply. Her eyes followed the other mare's gaze and she, too, noticed the pond.
"Hmm, could be", she said pretty half-mindedly, checked on the witch and followed the other mare up to the pond. It looked pretty crystal clear and didn't smell foul either. Her mouth felt incredibly dry all of the sudden and she lowered her head to take a drink. Her long multi-colored mane fell down like a veil as she took a big gulp of the fresh water. She felt alarmed by the sudden cutting of the other mare's sentence, and looked up curiously.
She noticed the tracks as well, frowning a bit as she tried to make sense of them. They were nothing quite like she'd seen before.
"I have no idea... Do you want to go find out?" she asked, her eyes sparkling up by this new exciting turn. The tracks didn't look like any large predators she knew, so she was really intrigued and felt like she absolutely had to see. She glanced quickly at the palomino and started off, following the tracks but trying her best not to mess them up. She tried sniffing the ground, but wasn't getting much of anything that would help, as she wasn't really gifted with tracking. The tracks continued between the trees, and Nimh made her way forward in a very determined manner.

One felt a shiver down their spine as they heard voices, voices that one didn't recognize. Their green eyes shifted around, before looking back, anticipating some sort of punishment, their long leonine tail dragging on the mossy forest floor, and their white ears pressed down against their skull. Nothing good would be coming from this, except for their freedom - and one knew that they wouldn't be saved if one was to break the rules any further. Punishment would be swift, and perhaps fatal, however one had lived a very long life and it would be made better, perhaps, for knowing the mortal horses. The horses whose voices filtered towards one's ears, dampened by the curve of one's neck.
I made those... Sin thought as one heard the question posed from one mare to the other, looking down at one's muddy hooves as they sunk into the loamy ground. A thought passed through their head, perhaps their tail could be used to scrub out the prints left behind, but was it worth it? One's life was spent surrounded by the dead anyhow. Would the actual termination of one's life be so much different, aside from the pain? It seemed too much to think about. Sin shook their head free of the thoughts, lifting a knee as if to scrub them from their skull. Choices were so hard...
Once more, Sin's eyes scanned around, searching. Where was Heliconia? Though Sin was the mare's mentor, perhaps it would be best to let her take the lead on this one. One would feel much worse if compelled by outside forces other than their own curiosity. "Heliconia..." Sin said softly into the forest, hoping for the mare to reveal herself.

Tierra smiled at the other mare as she suggested that they would find out what the tracks are from. Of course I want to find out! The palomino mare thought, That is what I'm here for. She quickly followed after the white-grey mare. A tickling sensation rose inside of her as they followed the tracks along the side of the pond and further towards the trees. It made her speed up her walk and Tierra had to use quite some self-control to not start prancing of excitement.
The little mare adapted her speed to that of her partner as the couple walked away from the pond. She looked as the bigger mare sniffed the ground trying to catch a scent but didn't bother sniffing herself as she knew she wouldn't recognise the scent. Just as she was about to introduce herself to her new companion, a gust of wind carried a whisper. Tierra froze on place as her head shot up and her ears perked forward. She wanted to ask the other mare if she had heard that too, but failed to find her voice. Instead she held her breath and concentrated on her ears to see if they would pick up any other sound.
Had she imagined it? No she thought, suddenly sure off herself. She could feel it in her gut, there was someone there...
She stepped forward again, following the tracks to were the whisperer had come from. With her eyes Tierra signed to her companion to follow her.
As the tension in her stomach grew, the little mare knew they were getting closer to whatever creature had left the tracks. It didn't seem to be moving away from them...was that a good sign or a bad one..? Something moved between the trees and once again Tierra froze. She looked back at the white-grey mare walking behind her wondering what they should do. Then the palomino mare spoke, knowing she sounded much like how she looked; fragile, harmless.
"Hello? who's there?...We don't mean any harm..."

All of Nimh's senses were on high alert, her spine tickled and she kept glancing around, wary. She let the little mare walk in front, making sure nothing would jump on them from behind. Her mind was going in crazy circles, trying to imagine what had left the prints. Would they ever find it? And if so, would it be a trap? It wouldn't be the first time Nimh's curiosity led her to trouble, and she doubted it would be the last, either.
She heard the whisper, too. It wasn't loud enough to make out the words, but it clearly wasn't a bird or another mindless animal. Nimh stopped too, holding in her breath and trying her best to listen for more. Silence fell down and she looked at the palomino shortly. She started off behind her, watching at the mud. The tracks were indeed much fresher now, they couldn't be far from the creature. A nervous feeling settled to her stomach, she was both eager to find out and afraid of what would come. But come hell or high water, this time she would not leave anyone behind, there had been enough of that and Nimh would not forgive herself if something was to happen to this little mare. Their numbers were so few, they could not afford to lose any more.
As the other mare spoke, Nimh stepped to side with her. She was standing upright, neck arched and eyeing in between the trees. She glanced at her much more fragile companion, dead set on pretecting her. And Nimh was indeed much larger and no doubt stronger.
"If it's something really dangerous, I want you to make sure you get to safety", she whispered as quietly as she could, her lavender eyes looking at the palomino very intently. She was not playing around, she was dead serious about it and she wanted the other mare to know that. Nimh could handle herself, she had her gift and strenght. Of course she wished it was something less sinister, but after her run in with the perditim moose, she was prepared for pretty much anything.

(I thought we were keeping an order but since no one is replying I will...I hope no one minds)
The little mare felt something inside her get pulled to the creature waiting for them behind the trees. She didn't know what it was, but she felt no danger just an overwhelming sense of wonder. Like the whole world had become brighter. As if in a trance Tierra kept walking forward. "It's okay...."She whispered softly to the creature, to the mare beside her who seemed prepared for the worse, to no one and everyone. She heard her companion speak, understood the words, but it didn't sink in. "It's okay..." She repeated.
One more step, the leaves on the trees rustled as a soft breeze blew through them. For a moment Tierra was blinded by the light of the sun resting at the border where the sky became the earth. Then she saw him, the creature that had made the tracks. Like a horse and yet not at all...
"Unicorn..." The little mare whispered with a smile of amazement and disbelief on her face.

((I was waiting for another admin to be involved, but she's fairly busy so it might not happen. |D ))
Nothing in response, just the continued words of the mortal horses, speaking to each other in hushed voices. One had been found out, they were coming for Sin and the unicorn had no choice but to abandon the idea of Heliconia's arrival. It was all in Sin's power, whether they found one or not. They didn't mean any harm, though...of course they didn't. Sin remembered at least that much from so long ago, when one had been of an age, before one was trapped with the others beyond the magic wall. Sin didn't mean harm either, but yet one brought it, for it was unleashed with the rest of them, carried on many sets of cloven hooves. Sin was not sure how the youngsters, those who had lived only a century or so, would react to these 'lesser' beings, but one could only hope that the mortals would not be demolished. Get away from here... Sin thought, though no words came to their lips. Curiosity and some sense of daring kept one silent, and perhaps even willed those mortal mares closer.
And closer they came, large and small reflected in the curve of one's green eye. The smaller one seemed the more daring, and the larger somehow cautious - and it was better that way. Why wouldn't this small one be cautious too, as she said her mantra over and over again. Said enough times, perhaps it will be true for you, little one. Sin thought, realizing that this was the end, there was no hiding any longer. Yes, Unicorn indeed. Sin lowered their head a little bit, knowing any time to prepare oneself had dissipated, and turned slightly, eyes shifting this way and that. What could Sin say to these poor mortals? "Whoever brought you here did you no favors..." Sin said, with a voice that was as absent of gender markers as the unicorn's body was. Once upon a time, Sin had been something or another, but even that memory faded, if one wasn't constantly reminded by the scorn.
Sin couldn't leave the mortals to what was coming, but helping them might mean one's death. An outcast already, that was the only way left to truly punish one. "You should hurry away from here. Hide..." Sin blinked their sage colored eyes before looking around again, fearing what might come next. Not concern for one's own safety, that had been dispensed long ago, but out of some concern for these poor mortals. They would never know what hit them.

Nimh pinned her ears in frustration as the palomino ignored her warning and just proceeded onwards. Such a fragile, little mare, why was she in so much hurry to die? They were not by any means immortal, Nimh had been reminded about it for the most of her life and she fully intended to keep on breathing even after this day. She murmured a curse under her breath, walking after the little mare and glancing around, anticipating something worse. They could be surrounded for all she knew, or either of them anyway. She was so done with the Loners and how they seemed to lack any sort of sense of how to work together to stay alive. After this time with them Nimh was more and more certain she'd do better alone. She missed being by herself.
Soon Nimh could see it too, a horse-like creature with twisted horns. Her eyes narrowed, and she certainly did not smile. All the things she'd heard of these creatures weren't positive, and to be face to face with something with completely unknown powers was terrifying. Nimh silently called the smaller mare many names in her head for leading her into this situation. She stood again, side by side with the pale mare, this time fully ready to stop her from getting closer if need be - no matter if she had to bite, yell, kick... Nimh didn't care anymore, they were not getting skin to skin with this anomaly.
The unicorn's words sent shivers down Nimh's spine, she instantly thought of the witch and all her doubts were multiplied.
"From what?" Nimh couldn't help but asking, her mind already hurrying, thinking back all the places she had seen. Where could they hide? From what? What sort of a hiding place should it be? Would it be better to just run? Run back? All the way? Would it help? Were they already doomed? So many questions, apparently so, so little time.
Nimh was ready on her feet, already half-way pushing the other mare away from the unicorn with her shoulder.
"We should listen", she said to the palomino. Of course they didn't know the unicorn, didn't know its motives or if it would just run them into greater danger, but if there was a chance of making it out alive, Nimh would take it. And some greater powers help her, she was going to do her best to drag her companion with her.

Tierra didn't understand. She couldn't feel any danger coming from the unicorn standing before them, but his warning seemed dead-serious. She remembered her doubts about unicorn tales, how she had found it strange that they had banned the other two herds even though they were supposed to be so good and kind and forgiving. She remembered the creepy song Ba'yagu had sung when passing the land bridge. She looked back to the pond Where had Ba'yagu gone off to?
" The wall is gone.." The little mare suddenly exclaimed "The wall was what held them on this island...it's gone..." Oh god, the herds...the war Tierra completely snapped out of her trance. "You're right, we need to go." She said to her grey-white companion. "We need to find the others and Ba'yagu...We found what we where looking for, now we need to stop them from finding us." Tierra started to turn around ready to run. "Maybe...Maybe Ba'Yagu can summon the wall again, if we are fast enough..." The little mare's thought rushed through her head, trying to figure out a way to stop what was coming for them.
She looked back at the Unicorn. "Can you help us? Please..."
