The fight was grueling. All the training he had ever done was supposed to of prepared him, but he felt like a colt leaving his mothers side for the first time and encountering a cougar. Afraid, alone, and fighting for his life. The battle had taken a lot out of him, and the bachelor he was against now was large and had more energy. Nero couldn't of dodged. His opponents teeth sank into his neck, ripping back and causing warm life to pour forth. The red fluid mixed with the rain and mud that was clinging to his coat and caused him to weaken. The assailant went onto his next victim and the grey stallion struggled to keep his feet. It wasn't long until he was on his knees, coughing small ref drops into the muck and gasping for his breath. Darkness encroached on his vision, and his legs gave way, leaving the huge form to splash into the mud. The fighting grew quieter and bright flashes of lightning brightened the retreating bodies as Nero's eyes went dark.
It was warm, and bright. The sun was out and he was in a field of wildflowers. The silver wood? How could he? "Nero!" The familiar voice caused his young ears to perk upright. His childish frame stood erect, searching for the source of the voice. "Nero!" The foal whipped around and saw them. His mother and father, looking young and vibrant, how he remembered them as a young foal. His father was strong, and tall, standing proudly next to his pale mother. She wasn't withered and weak as Nero had last seen her, but full and her eyes were bright with life. Tears sprung to the foals eyes as he leapt forward, racing toward them. Oh how he had missed them. He wanted nothing more to be with them, but suddenly they were fading. "No! Please! Don't go!!" the child cried, forcing his wobbly legs faster. "We love you Nero," his mothers soothing voice rang through the trees as they began to melt away. "But not yet."
A bright light flashed and pain sprang from his forehead. Nero gasped for breath as water as far as the eye could see smothered him. Lightning flashed across the dark sky, illuminating each wave as they battered his young, frail form. "Mo-!" Another wave cut out his cry, forcing water down his throat. The foal coughed, breaking the surface again just as another wave stuck. He fought, but the water kept pulling him deeper and deeper into it's dark depths. Red mixed with the stormy sea, escaping from his face where a pain worse than any he had ever felt throbbed deeply in his skull. His small body weakened and he choked on the fluid that was flowing into his body. This wasn't the end. It couldn't be the end. Could it?
