Objective 4 | Loners Phase 3
Beartooth - SongsTheDeadMenSing Miraphy - Lilafly
As your remaining team members pass forwards, you make a startling discovery. Peculiar tracks lay scattered around a pond, pressed deep within the loamy soil. You decide to follow them, and encounter a rather surprising species. . .
Miraphy The paint mare took one step after another, careful to not make any noise that could attract predators, the quiver back bear - she had just found out its name through Ba'Yagu - had been enough for the day, actually enough for a lifetime. The scar she bore from her escape, from the beast, shimmered in red stripes on her belly and still hurt a lot. Thanks to Ba'Yagu it was not as worse as it once had been though. When Miraphy had still stumbled through the forest, with Ozzer's lantern around her neck, she had eventually given up to find anyone and through a lack of sleep she had been too tired to keep going on in the middle of the night. Ba'Yagu had found her then eventually and treated her wound as best as possible. It was something Miraphy was very grateful for, otherwise she would not have been able to make another step for days. She had given the witch Ozzer's lantern and asked her to return it to him if she would see him somewhere. It seemed wrong to the young mare to run around with something that was not hers and she was scared of breaking it. It would be more safe with the witch, that was for sure. Anyhow, Ba'Yagu had told Beartooth, a little roan mare, to accompany Miraphy and take care of her, in case the injury got worse.
And there they were now. Miraphy and Beartooth, alone in the forest. The sun was slowly rising, dawn stretching blood red over the sky. It looked both beautiful and scary. The arabian thought about that only one day ago she had been full of determination and energy, eager to win a race and explore the island further, but now she was nothing but exhausted. She needed a break, and may it only be for a short while! She shook her head, distracting herself from the tiredness and then took a look at Beartooth.
She had seen the mare very often in the group of loners, usually staying near Godric and despite her comparably small size doing her best. If she had come this far she either must have had a lot of luck or very good skills. Again, Miraphy could not help but being reminded of her best friend Zsa Zsa when looking at Beartooth. Even though Zsa Zsa was bigger and looked more elegant, she had also been a blue roan. When she had seen Beartooth for the first time with a quick glance she had even thought that it indeed was her friend from Olde. But Zsa Zsa was gone, she had not made the journey to this island and turned tail shortly after arriving at the great pine. The paint mare couldn't help but wonder if her friend was hiding in the Olde City or if she had somehow been wrapped up in the war. She hoped for the first, Zsa Zsa was the scared type after all, she would not agree to join a fight.
Miraphy shook her head again. She could not think about Zsa Zsa now, she was on the fourth island, still in the dangerous forest, together with a mare she barely knew. At this point she had given up to find out who was against her for breaking the seal or not, figuring that everyone who had made it past the wall had not been forced to do so. Someone who wanted to explore this area wouldn't be mad at her for making this option possible after all.
Looking ahead, Miraphy suddenly saw something red shimmering. At first she feared that it could be another predator, but then she saw that it was just the sky reflecting in a pond. The mare's tiredness immidiately washed away. Something to drink was exactly what she needed now. "Would you mind if we take a break here? I'm a little thirsty." she said in her naturally shy manner. She was still not sure if Beartooth followed her out of free will or only if the witch had told her to. If it turned out that the roan mare would not like her, it would look bad to act too friendly. So the insecure way it was, it had done the trick several times and to be honest, Miraphy really was anything but sure about anything at this point anymore...

Beartooth had made it this far om the island and she sure as hell not ready to back down As much as her heart yearned to be with her lover Godric, she wanted to keep going, to further explore and hopefully unlock the secrets that the fourth island. There was something that kept pulling at her to keep going. Across the land bridge riddled with snakes, through the plains, and now through the forest where she had nearly been killed by snakes - Aphelion snakes as she recalled the witch telling her what they were. Such strange creatures. It made her skin crawl thinking of them. She wondered if her friend Jonah was alright. The last she saw of her was when they had encountered the snakes, Beartooth had taken off and didn't dare look back. She could only hope Jonah was alright. Dawn came to the land with a bloody-colored sky. She hoped the sun's warmth would help dry her pelt, which was still a little damp from the rain of yesterday. Beartooth was accompanied by the little paint mare that she had seen Godric with in the beginning of the race. The mare was about her height. As she recalled, the mare was names Miraphy - the one who had touched the wall. She was a quiet mare, much like Beartooth herself. Beartooth didn't mind her company.
As they walked, Beartooth had the sudden realization that there only remained four Loners now. Herself, Miraphy, and two otheer mares whom she did not know. Their numbers had dwindled quickly - would they really be able to survive the island as a band of four? Well...if including the witch, it brought the total to five. A pond laid not too far ahead. The red sky reflected off of the clear waters. A drink would be nice, and maybe she could wash the mud off of herself. Beartooth looked to her companion Miraphy as she spoke. She glanced over her injuries, which the witch had been kind enough to heal. She opened her mouth to speak however she soon noticed peculiar tracks that laid around the pool. Her ears perked forward and then laid back. "M-Miraphy! Wait!" She said, hurrying over to the mare. She nudged her. "Stop. Do you see these tracks?..they're f-fresh...," she warned her. Anything could have made those tracks, and on this island that they knew little of, she didn't want to risk it. She glanced over to the other pair of loners, seeing that they had noticed the tracks around the pond as well.

Miraphy was starlted as the roan mare suddenly jumped in front of her and urged her to stop. The reflex of jumping back let a sting go through her fresh wound and she grit her teeth in pain, shortly before concentrating again.
Fresh tracks!? Hopefully they are not of a predator... the mare thought and took a worried glance at the soft ground near the water. From what she could tell they were no paw prints and also not as big as the prints a quiver back bear would make, so that set her at a little ease. But what let her worry again was that she had never seen prints like these before. They seemed unfamiliar and weird. She tilted her head in confusion and then looked at the slightly smaller roan mare again.
"Who do you think made these tracks? Have you ever seen anything like it before?" she asked and hoped for an answer that would either be a headshake or the answer that it was not a predator. Judging by Beartooth's reaction, the latter was inlikely though, so Miraphy just swallowed and looked at the other group, consisting of Tierra and a mare she did not know the name of. They stared at the tracks with about as much uncertainity and confusion as Miraphy and Beartooth did.
Miraphy flattened her ears anxiously. Where was Ba'Yagu now? She could probably tell them which animal made those prints and set their minds at ease...or not. Either way it was not helping the situation to make wild guesses that would lead to nothing, so the arabian walked around the prints, careful to not step on them accidently, and lowered her head to the water to finally drink something. It felt good to taste the fresh water, but her eyes remained open and her ears moved in all directions to catch all noises possible. She would have proceeded further into the water to wash off the dirt from her coat, but with the newly discovered tracks a tension hung in the air, making the mare alert.
But even without a bath Miraphy felt refreshed after drinking the clear water. Her mind was fully awake now, which let her be able to function again. Without her mind she was nothing but a shy coward, but in fact she was a good analytist, at least she claimed herself to be one. So it came that, after several minutes of lingering at the pond, she came back to the tracks and gave them a close observation. She still could not detect anything familiar though, but the creature leaving those tracks was maybe the size of a horse, that's all she could read from it. This guess was only uncertain though, nothing she could work with or which would give her answers to her questions. With a sigh she looked up to Beartooth from the ground.
"Who- or whatever left those tracks is gone now, but I guess that we can't leave it at that." she said and lifted her head, looking into the direction the track lead. "Ba'Yagu said that we are to explore this new area, and I think that also includes its creatures. We better follow that track and find out to who it belongs to. If it's a predator we just run, if not, then we'll see if the creature is friendly. How does that sound?" Innerly Miraphy frowned at her own words. She has never been a leader, never ever, but somehow she had sounded a lot like one just now. Making a plan and proposing others to follow it... Maybe her insecurity was melting among this journey after all, or the incident with the quiver back bear had have more impact on her personality than she had thought it to have.
Or I just have a trauma from it and go insane. she added in thoughts and innerly rolled her eyes at that. With a questioning look she regarded Beartooth now, to see if she had a better plan on how to proceed or agreed with the suggestion Miraphy made.

Iloué Words carried in the wind and swayed past the mare's curled ears, unfamiliar voices she had not yet registered. After the long and arduous journey set out to discover who had broken the wall, Iloué had a suspicion that the search was over. Her father would certainly not be pleased that she had ventured with the group, but in her eyes she was just as capable as the rest of them- Despite her disability... Her guard had always warned her to be cautious of strangers because there was no way a blind mare could tell if one was malicious or not. However, in her opinion it was better this way. Individuals shouldn't be judged by their appearences and this was something she couldn't see. "As fresh as the pond water" the elegant figure giggled out softly at the shapes near the pond. She closed her eyes and breathed in deep, causing two water droplets to dance out of the pond and float in front of them before dropping on the ground at their feet. Putting aside her fear of uncertainty, Iloué stepped into the clearing and tried her best to look in their general direction with a dainty bow. "Are you the ones who broke the seal on Aphelion's wall?" she questioned calmly, keeping her safe distance with her head held high and waiting for the response. She wondered that if they were regular horses, how they would react to seeing a unicorn presumably for the first time?

"Quiet." A tall, lean figure hushed the princess, waving his tail over her mouth. He wasn't even sure how she had managed to come along in the first place, sure that her father would have forbade his little girl from going on such a dangerous quest. His brows lowered just thinking about it, but he didn't have time to get frustrated over the young mare's presence. He just hoped her "babysitter" would come, rather sooner than later. For now, however, he would just have to focus on keeping her hidden away from the mysterious beings on the other side of - he turned around, and suddenly it seemed the queen to be was not there. His ears flattened. What was she--- oh no. His eyes widened as he saw the pale mare walk elegantly and pridefully out to the two strangers, completely ignorant that they might be in some sort of danger. He trotted out behind her.
"Iloue-" He winced, "I mean, My lady, please..." He stopped trying. The two strange hornless creatures had already seen them when she'd dumbly introduced herself, there was no point in trying to escape now. He grinded his teeth in quiet irritation.
"Of course they are! Now, what she means is - why in magic's name did you think breaking that seal was a good idea?"

With a soft sigh, Beartooth just shook her head at Miraphy's question. She did not know what made those tracks. They rather equine in shape, however. She watched Miraphy proceed to take a drink. The water's seemed to hold no danger to them. She stood nearby and waited for Miraphy to finish, all the while studying the tracks that were scattered around. There was no sense of danger here, but an uneasy feeling crept through her body, making her shift on her hooves. It was almost like they were being watched... The sound of a giggle caught Beartooth's attention. She jumped a little, startled by the sudden noise. She turned her head in the direction. The little mare couldn't begin to fathom what appeared before her. Unicorns. Her heart seemed to skip a beat. Was she hallucinating? Was this a dream? Perhaps she was still on the beach with the others and just dreaming this whole thing...Her bi-colored eyes widened in both shock and fear. Her knees buckled beneath her and she bowed to the unicorn, a sight so beautiful. If this was a dream, then it was surely one she did not want out of now. The unicorn's elegant voice carried through her ears and she felt that the creature would not bring harm. It seemed a friendly being. "Yes...," Beartooth finally responded as she got back up, her legs noticeably shaking. She blinked a few times and looked at the other unicorn. "We...w-we followed the witch here...Ba'Yagu...," Beartooth put her ears back, keeping her head lowered. She did not want to upset the unicorns. "She told us...we would have safety...w-we could get away...from the war raging between the o-other herds...Miraphy touched the wall..."

The arabian mare was more than just startled by a giggle that came from the surrounding woods. Seems like a search is unecessary now... she thought and partly hid behind Beartooth, an old and childish behavior of hers. Then, something she did not expect, happened. A unicorn stepped into the clearing, more beautiful than Miraphy had ever imagined the mythical creatures to be like. For a moment she could just breathlessly stare at the horned mare who made a dainty bow and then began to speak, her voice sounding clear and beautiful. "Are you the ones who broke the seal on Aphelion's wall?" At that, Miraphy swallowed heavily. Getting finished what I started, this is probably the time to do that now. she thought. In her head the theory sounded logical, but she couldn't convert it into praxis. She just stood there as if she was frozen, with wide eyes and did not manadge to make any sound. She was brought out of her shock when Beartooth suddenly moved, lowering herself shakily into a bow. The arabian mare quickly mimiced her. She knew enough of the Olde Herd to have memorized how one should act in the presence of a unicorn, even though she would have never believed to ever come into such a situation, ever. Everything about it just seemed so surreal that she was afraid that it all was just a dream. Maybe she fainted after the race from exhaustion and now dreamed all of this. It would explain the weird rules that let her pass the wall even though she lost. But even though she would love this to be a dream, she felt way too awake to let it be. In any case she would not dare to misbehave in front of a unicorn, dream or not.
"We...w-we followed the witch here...Ba'Yagu...," Beartooth stammered and Miraphy gave the shivering mare beside her a worried glance. Ba'Yagu had been trying to not speak about unicorns on the whole journey, she had been clearly at an end when the seal broke and overall had seemed a little more uneasy and worried since then. It probably was not wise to just tell the unicorns her name, maybe she did not want them to know. "She told us...we would have safety...w-we could get away...from the war raging between the o-other herds...Miraphy touched the wall..." the roan mare continued and at the last words Miraphy shrank back heavily, still feeling a lot of guilt for what had happened.
She just tried to build up enough confidence to speak to the unicorn mare, even though it probably would not be more than the stutter Beartooth had managed, when suddenly a second unicorn stepped beside the mare, this time a stallion. He said something to her, correcting himself while doing so, which let Miraphy assume that the mare was some sort of royalty. She could not even finish that thought - her mind seemed to run in slow motion all of a sudden - before the unicorn stallion turned to Beartooth and her. "Of course they are! Now, what she means is - why in magic's name did you think breaking that seal was a good idea?"
If possible, Miraphy shrank back even more at that, her ears pinned flatly against her coat. Even though she did not want to, even though she did not think that she had any voice left, she knew that it was her time to speak now. Being honest would probably be the best thing and then hoping that they would not execute her for her doings.
"I-I...I..." Miraphy shook her head and swallowed, trying to speak again without biting her tongue. "I-it was an accident! I-I d-did not mean t-to...b-b-break any s-seal. I just..." but at this point her voice gave up and Miraphy could do nothing but look at the unicorns with the most guilty espression she could manage.
Only now the gravity of her actions seemed to sink in. Sure, Ba'Yagu had been beyond mad, but so far, Miraphy had thought that the seal just prevented the predators like the quiver back bears to roam the part beyond the wall. If the unicorns lived on this side of the island, since Miraphy had clearly not seen any of them on the other side of the wall, then why was it of so much matter to them? She wanted to have these questions answered very badly to finally understand what exactly was going on, but she did not dare to ask. It was bas enough that she broke the seal, now she just needed to wait and see what the unicorns would do to her. She made herself ready to run back through the forest, in case she has to, and to take Beartooth with her. Her life was more important to her than to make up for what she did. In the end, her confidence was just an illusion. Deep down inside she stayed a coward.

Iloué The princess' ear flicked sideways as Pippin decided to join her but when she realized he was most displeased about the whole situation she lowered her head a little. Then, the greyish shape that spoke first seemed to lower herself in a bow and Iloue couldn't help but smile. The mortals respected them after all. This surely meant they were not here to cause them harm, right? Then a name rolled off the grey figure's lips that sent a chill down her dainty back, causing her to take a brief step back and her eyes to widen in shock. "B-Baba Yagu?!" she gasped as her eyes located Pippin's form with fear marked on her features. "Did she accompany you here?" her blind orbs tries their best to scan the area as her ears lay flat in her neck, mind racing frantically. If her father, the king, found out she was anywhere near the infamous witch she was sure his anger would tenfold. She wished Xavier had somehow found her scent and followed her there, so she could find comfort in his presence. "Pippin..." she spoke in a low voice "What do we do?"

The unicorn's reaction to the mention of the witch raised red flags in Beartooth's mind. However she felt so awestruck by being in the presence of a unicorn that she pushed those concerns aside in her mind. She gently nudged Miraphy. The poor thing seemed so frightened, even more than herself. She couldn't help but feel bad for the mare. Whether Miraphy touched the wall or not wouldn't matter now though, because they were all destined to be on this island and the witch wouldn't have just brought them to keep them on the beach. She studied the unicorn, who was pale in color with eyes that looked almost like glass to Beartooth. From what Beartooth could see, her companion was a grumpy, dark figure. Opening her mouth, Beartooth hoped that this concern over the witch's presence would not be anything severe. "We do not know where the witch is currently...w-we were told to pair up and explore...s-she had met us here and there b-but...we have not seen much of her," she bowed her head after speaking. "The last I saw of her...she gave me my gift." Her voice quivered.

Xavier
A soft sigh filtered into the early morning air as the dappled stallion carefully made his way through the trees. Ears perked alertly and nose raised to the wind, he was determinedly tracking down a familiar scent- that of Princess Iloue. Long ago, when they were both very young, he had been charged with protecting the blind mare, and he had taken that duty seriously since day one. Xavier was not necessarily a high ranked unicorn, and having been given this task was a great honor. . . but the number of times he'd lost her, well, they'd gone past remembrance. With a gentle shake, the dappled horse readjusted his forelock, flicking it backwards from his eyes so that it again stood in his preferred style, swooping gently behind his razor sharp horn.
At least her scent is fresh. . . he mused to himself silently. And at least this way he knew he wasn't that far behind. However, as soon as unfamiliar voices reached his ears, the young guard leaped forwards, bounding a few steps before breaking through the undergrowth. To his great surprise, Xavier found himself facing two beings bare of horns, their faces looking oddly empty without them. The normally docile horse was immediately cast into a protective, fatherly mode, and not one blink later, he was standing between the hornless beings and the princess, teeth bared and horn lowered. His blue eyes were cold as ice as he stared them down, cocking his ears backwards to check the Princess' whereabouts. "What has happened here?" he barked, directed at no horse in particular. "Princess, are you alright?"

Unicorns. Real unicorns. Miraphy still needed to wrap her mind around that since so far they had been nothing but mythical creatures to her. Some that existed at some point of time, but not in the present. Well, she had been clearly wrong at that apparently and her theory about the fourth island being the home of the unicorns had been right after all, also when Ba'Yagu had claimed the opposite to be true. But her opinion of the witch seemed to waver anyway, especially after the white unicorn mare's shocked reaction of hearing the witch's name. It really had been no good idea to mention it after all, and with it, the whole situation had started to become more severe. In any case, the young mare could feel a thick tension hanging in the air, which made her feel even more unsure about all of it. Her instinct to flee the scene became clearer any second, but she simply tried to swallow it, being sure that the unicorns were faster than her and that she would not be able to come that far with her injury anyway. So the only option left for her was to just stand there, looking crestfallen, and hoping to get something good out of all of this. The gentle nudge Beartooth offered her soem comfort, letting her know that she was not alone in this situation. But still she felt very alone, since she had been the one alone to break the seal.
Convinced that she would not be able to productively participate in the conversation - no, it was more like an interrogation - she just kept her mouth shut, listening to the unicorns' words and waiting for any kind of decision or question that would be directed at her.
Then, out of nowhere, a third unicorn - again a stallion - appeared and he seemed to be even more upset than the dark one. Angrily he pointed his sharp horn at the two mares and asked, with a voice that sounded like he would not hesitate to kill them when they made just one wrong step: "What has happened here?"
Miraphy made a surprised little jump back, again hiding behind Beartooth, not wanting to become the target of the enraged stallion. She was more confused than scared though, which heavily surprised her. She contemplated about the fact that two unicorn stallions thought them to be a threat. Two small mares. Miraphy did not know about Beartooth, but the arabian mare herself was anything but strong and additionally she was injured, so what kind of threat was she regarded as? They were just trespassers, not furious predators, or did they look like carnivores for the horned equines?
In any case the situation seemed to become very messed up now. Three unicorns against two totally normal mares. Beartooth had said that she had acquired her gift now, which was impressive, but that probably was nothing in comparison to the unicorns' powers, especially not since she just got it and had no practice. And Miraphy did not have anything at all. Even her mind was a mess and therefore not of much use. But how did Zsa Zsa always used to say? If you are forced into a corner, you will either go insane or find some new strengh. The paint mare tryed to achieve the latter since insanity would only make the situation worse. So she took a deep, silent breath and stepped out from behind Beartooth again. The unicorn stallion did not look any less threatening than he had ten seconds ago, and Miraphy's mind was still a mess but he had demanded for answers and it maybe would be good to ease his worries.
"W-we are not here to harm anyone, we promise. All we were told was to explore this land. We couldn't have known that this was your land and we did not mean to trespass it. We can tell you anything you wish to know and leave afterwards, but please, do not harm us." Miraphy begged. Their life or at least their wellbeing in exchange for information seemed fair and she hoped to not have said anything wrong now. Watching the Olde Herd had not really taught her how to speak to unicorns after all or how to act in this kind of situation. If she had made a mistake and would be stabbed by the grey unicorn stallion's horn now, it would serve her right, even though she did not hope for this to happen. With a gulp she gave the three unicorns and uneasy view, not entirely sure what they expected of Beartooth and her to say or do.
I don't know if I'm the only one, but I'm a little confused of the posting order? Can someone enlighten me? XD

Another unicorn appeared. He appeared suddenly and looked angered, quick to go to the 'defense' of the unicorn mare that had originally approached and initiated conversation. It was clear to Beartooth that the unicorns were not too keen on the idea of the loners being on the island. She wondered why and then she thought about the lore of Chevalin that was do deeply enriched in her mind. If the unicorns were here, then perhaps the Great Compromiser was here on the island as well. She pursed her lips and her ears flicked back. Her eyes moved to Miraphy and she watched the paint mare speak. The fear of the other mare radiated off. Although Beartooth couldn't say if she was really frightened or not, she was more so in awestruck. Shock of being in the presence of unicorns...real, living, unicorns. She let out a deep breath and lifted her head. She wanted to be confident, in hopes that Miraphy might be comforted.

Overwhelmed by the sudden talk that surrounded him, Pippin narrowed his brows in an attempt to focus on exactly what was happening. The bowing of the horse's only confused him further, all his life he had been taught that mortals had no respect for unicorn power. All his life he had been force fed this information that they were indelicate and dastardly souls. He blocked out the noise for a while longer, letting Iloue's question sink in. What where they going to do? He didn't know. Mortals were evil souls, he knew that. He also know that fraternizing with them was quite the offense to the Lord Valraldic. He sniffed. He did not want to anger the unicorn King. The mention of Ba'Yagu had unsettled him as much as it had Iloue. The stories they had been told of the outcast unicorn Ba'Yagu had been even more terrifying than those of the hornless ones. Pippin could almost feel his blood curdle with fear. Yet, these hornless beings seemed benevolent - oh how he wished for a simple right or wrong! What where they to do?
"Quiet!" He snapped again, this time louder and at the whole of the small group that had formed. He frowned realizing they had not been that loud to begin with. "Just everyone.. give me a moment" The chimera's eyes darted between his Aphelion allies, and the stranger mortals. What to do, what to do? His heart defied his calculating brain and begged him to run. That would be the simple answer, perhaps the mortals would forget they ever saw him. Pippin almost laughed allowed, the fear was speaking loudly to him now.
"It was an accident..." he finally mussed over what Miraphy had said, and he turned to the other stranger horse, "Can you confirm this was an accident? Ba'Yagu didn't trick her or tell her to break the seal. What did she do? Just run into it!?!" He snorted in disbelief, what game were these mortals playing?
(OOC:// Im also confused on the posting order I think someone skipped me -- Lets do it like this from now on: Pippin, Miraphy, Iloue, Beartooth, Xavier and so on.

Miraphy shamefully lowered her head when the dark unicorn spoke, since just running into the wall had literally been what she had done. Furthermore she noticed that the unicorns did not seem to have the best opinion of Ba'Yagu. What had been a reaction of fear from the unicorn mare was, well, mockering from the dark unicorn stallion? Miraphy did not really know what to make of it and her first instinct was to argue against it, to place Ba'Yagu in a good light, but she quickly thought better of it and kept her mouth shut about that topic. No reason to enrage them further after all.
Even though the unicorn had asked Beartooth to confirm her story, she felt like it still was her place to speak now, even though she might regret it later. "We were told to not touch the wall at any cost, but I was tired and curious and therefore did it anyway. I have never encountered anything like seals, so how could I have known that I would break one with it? If I would have known about the consequences I surely wouldn't have done it, it was very foolish of me." to admit it so openly made Miraphy feel even more ashamed of the incident. She had acted like a silly little filly, even though she usually was very careful with everything. The image of an uncautious filly would forever be stuck on her now probably. The ridiculousness of the whole incident made it fairly hard to believe, but she honestly did not have anything else to work with.
The last thing she wanted to do was to anger the mythical beings, but she could not help but to ask one question that had been lingering on her mind for weeks. "May I be so bold to ask what exactly the seal protected and why it was so important?" she lowered her head shyly and submissive, as to not seem rude. She finally wanted to know what exactly she set in motion, maybe she would be able to fix it again, though it seemed unlikely...

Iloué A slight wave of relief came over the mare as the mortals did not know the current whereabouts of the witch, along with an unsettling feeling that she could be anywhere really... "Gift?" Iloué's curled ears flicked forward at the grey shape's word as she felt curiosity tingle inside her mind. Was the witch unlocking gifts to form a defence of mortals against Aphelion, or was it really an act of kindness? Before she could ask what she wanted, a familiar scent hit her and surely enough Xavier emerged seconds later to form a protective barrier in front of her. "Xavier!" she called, not at all surprised that he had shown up in this moment for she was all to familiar with his impeccable timing. Xavier was always there when she needed him.
The blind mare took a step forward to brush her muzzle past Xavier's neck briefly, trying to nudge him out of his aggressive stance. "I am fine Xavier, please... They have shown us no reason to think they mean harm... As of yet." Truthfully, she did not know yet whether the two mares could be trusted or if they were even telling the truth but the princess sensed sincerity and respect in their words. Perhaps even- intimidation? All her life she had been told to beware of mortals, that they were twisted and never to confide in the idea that they were good at heart. A brief flinch came from her when Pippin demanded everyone to be quiet. When he spoke the words that Ba'Yagu was possibly using the mortals as tools to break the seal without their knowledge, she began to wonder how safe she really was around these horses. She was thankful that her royal guard had showed up and leant her shoulder against him a little wearily as her eyes flicked between the two blurry figures in front of them.
However, she could tell from the tone of voice the painted mare spoke in that they were just as afraid as she was. She could feel it drifting in the air. Iloué then decided to take a small fluid step forward, no longer cowering against Xavier for protection. If she expected sincerity and honesty from the mortals, she was to return it. The princess gently lowered her head so she could attempt to look the painted mare in the eyes. At least, attempt to with her lack of vision. She focused on the location the voice had been coming from and tried her best to find the point of the eyes on the blurry configuration of colours. "The seal was a protection for us, of the Aphelion Blessing, from the outside world. The walls kept us on this island and prevented mortals from coming near." She answered to the best of her abilities, hoping she hadn't angered Pippin or Xavier in doing so. "May I ask then, what war ensued and caused you to travel to this island in search of safety?" she paused, crystal clear glassy irises glancing over the two. "Surely there have been wars among you mortals before... From my knowledge, fighting is a common thing for the mortals in your herds- is it not? Why is the witch aiding you in your escape from fighting alongside your comrades?" Her expression as she talked was of nothing but curiosity, she was truly intrigued to finally meet the infamous mortals... But a question arose in her mind, had the witch hidden her true identity? "How well do you truly know the mare Ba'Yagu?"
