Showdown at Sundown Objective 4, Phase 1, Tournament A Ghost-Ginger-Goddess & Prime-Greensmile ---------- ~*~ ---------
The silver stallion looked around the field as Cain finished his speech. So many potential sparring partners, yet none of them seemed interested in taking on the older horse. Searching through the faces, the appaloosa noticed the other Elites had already partnered off. Sighing heavily, he resigned himself to teaching one of the green stallions some moves instead of getting the chance to hone some of his own skills. Plodding along silently, he noticed a familiar face, one that he did not expect to see among the mass of testosterone ridden brutes.
"Prime." He spoke her name firmly as he approached, half confused half intrigued that the appaloosa brood was going to be allowed to fight with them, or even that she wanted to after everything that went down with the recent negotiations. The spotted brood had spoke out against the Bachelors quite venomously, and to be frank, the idea of putting her in her place made the olde stallion grin. Maybe the silly little mare would realize she was of more use elsewhere and not on the battlefield. "I see you haven't found a partner yet. If you really want to prove yourself worthy of fighting with the Bachelors, spar with me. Let's see what you've got." Ghost snorted as he spoke to the mare, a slight condescending tone to his words. Maybe, just maybe this brood could put her witchglass where her mouth was, or maybe she was just too arrogant for her own good. The large stallion thought the latter might be the case, but he was willing to give her a shot. Though she was obnoxious and needed to learn a lesson or two, he had to admit the spotted mare had guts.

As the cream gremlin finished his speech the spotted mare took her time to get a overall view on the others. Her amber gaze flickered as they found Ryder heading off toward none other than Cain. Unlike the brutes she knew what her 'brother' could do so she was actually not worried for his sake, he could hold his own. Her eyes vent towards Kanu whom was already going at it, while she had been unable to conceal her feelings on the events, the frustration had built up within the Captain and now she was sure it was going to show..she almost felt bad for the opponent. Her watchful eyes spotted the appaloosa long before his rasping voice reached her ears. He was not unfamiliar to the high guard..in fact he was to familiar for her liking. During her first encounter with the herd he had been one of the elites backing up Cain as he stole Cael from them. The memory cause the mare to pinch her eyes together in a displeased matter, Cain could call it what he liked it didn't change the fact, Cael in her wish to ensure their freedom and safety had been taken by the bachelors. She assumed the black mare had held higher hopes towards Olde. Joining the bachelors was not ideal but it was an advantage when it came to her own goal, to free the others and Rowan's sister. Her determination was unmoved in that matter despite the knowledge that others like Stormcry, despised her for it.. Some even seemed rather obsessed to be the one to break her. Like that Palomino at the meeting.. It was what the Bachelors did wasn't it? Break the souls in it.. Her mouth twitched at the stallions claim. Fight for the brutes? That wasn't her reason at all..but it laid something important in his words. If she wanted to be seen as more than a...brood she needed to prove herself.
Prime hummed and took a better look over the stallion, he was heavily scared and the fact he held such a high position in the herd was not unexpected. Still in her herd it was not favored to harm anyone even less the pregnant mares or elder. Nonetheless he seemed pretty confident in his offer. "You gonna get me in trouble aren't you? 'Gramps'" Prime gave him a sharp glare at his tone. "If you think you can keep up, then do feel free to honor me with your knowledge." Was she being respectful? Perhaps she found him more tolerable than Cain, after all she had noted his little bow towards Cael before. Prime gave him a wondering look over her shoulder and began to walk away a little from the mass she didn't want to get distracted, but she needed to be close enough to keep an eye out for her fellow Exiles.

"I am the very definition of trouble, dearie." The stallion said, pinning his ears back slightly. Gramps? Really? The grey stallion might have been the oldest horse in his herd, but he wasn't THAT old. He huffed loudly as she continued, seeming to show respect for his knowledge while at the same time insulting his age. "You should be the one worrying about keeping up dearie, not me. " He scoffed, looking down at the smaller horse. She might have some speed and agility on him, but he was strong and packed a powerful punch. This was definitely going to be interesting.
Ghost followed the feisty mare as she wandered away from the crowd enough to give them some room. The sky was growing dark quickly, fiery hues peering through the heavy cover of clouds every so often. It would be night soon, and that was just the way the older horse liked it. Low visibility paired with his gift would be an advantage, though he didn't want to let the brood in on his secrets just yet. No. He'd bide his time, waiting for the perfect moment to show exactly what kind of a force to be reckoned with he was. Old as he was, he still had some tricks up his proverbial sleeves.
Coming to a halt, Ghost shrugged off his firefly lantern, hanging it on a small but sturdy branch of a nearby shrub. It would provide some light, while not being a liability while he sparred. He made a mental note to leave it with Felicity before heading into battle in the morning. The thought of his daughter made him smile as he turned to face the spotted Exile once more. He shook his head slightly, forcing his thoughts to the present matter. "Shall we?" Ghost asked, cracking his neck and squaring his shoulders. "Bring it on, little brood."

"Got something in your throat, Gramps? Perhaps you should have someone look you over before you even consider getting into this. I'm sure... someone would miss you ever so charming presence." She responded in a dripping ironical tone accompanied by another sharp glare at his scoffing. Clearly not found of his behavior. That was until she recalled how bothered he seemed to be about her little nickname for him..was his age a sensitive topic? As they stopped Prime took some time to warm up her muscles starting with her legs one at a time, a satisfying cracking of her neck to end it all. It seemed the stallion had the same thing in mind as he unstrapped himself from his light and hung it on a twig. She allowed her eyes to wander up towards the sky. It was as many things on this land beautiful..but it also just like most of things on this land whispered of danger to come. Was it possible even the weather could feel the tension of war? Her thoughts got cut off once more by that, annoying tone from the brute and she turned her head with a sideway smirk towards him. There was a ranging wind gust ripping in her mane at the word that may as well have been a kick in her stomach leaving a bitter taste in her mouth just to hear, 'brood'. What a surprise..He had the attitude of a overconfident brute and a obsolete mindset. "I suppose we better, you aren't exactly getting any younger are you?" Prime snorted with a huffing of her chest, her eyes narrowing down scanning her opponent. One of her front hooves rasped slightly against the ground. She hadn't much experience with fighting...equines. Rowan had spared with her a few times but she had a feeling he had held back, same thing with Ryder. Then again she had done many things she had never even imagined this past month alone. Gathering her thoughts the appaloosa made her move, her footing was well placed and her smooth shifting was...as if she danced. Swiftly she came up to attempt to bump her left flank into the brute's side just to see if he could do more than just bicker about his abilities. Also she was curious if he could take even a halfhearted 'attack', it was apparent that her herds morals was higher valued than his mockery at this point.

"With age comes experience, dearie, and trust me, I have plenty of it." He snorted softly. Fine, let the brood believe he was old and feeble. It wouldn't hurt him at all and he'd crush her like the annoying little bug she was either way. As Prime pawed at the ground, readying herself for what was to come, the spotted stallion stole a quick glance at the small Bachelor leader who was also paired off with an Exile. He looked out of his element, and had it been any other horse, Ghost would have worried...but there was something about Cain that made him believe that no matter what went down, the frail Bachelor king had a plan for it.
The elite snapped his attention back to the brood as she made the first move, gracefully charging toward him. He chuckled heartily as the spotted mare swung her hind end against his side in what Ghost would have considered a playful love tap. He didn't bother wasting his precious energy to dodge, as the mare was clearly holding back. Was it because she viewed him as an elder? He had heard rumors of the Exiles treating their older members as if they were fragile, but he hadn't really believed it til now. "Is that really all you've got?" He sneered, attempting to goad the mare into attacking him. "You'll have to do better than that if you plan to survive the battle. Why don't you run off like a good little brood and help the others with preparations? Clearly you aren't cut out for this. Leave the fighting to those of us who know what we're doing." He quickly lashed out towards the mare, maw wide open as he tried to take a chunk out of her fleshy thigh with his teeth. That ought to shake things up...

Prime glared back as the brute seemed amused by her act. It seemed to tick him of as well...that she wouldn't take him seriously enough. Good. Though it was a dangerous procedure she was aiming to get the brute so frustrated that he would offer a weak spot for her to charge at. Madness perhaps.. But she wasn't foolish enough to believe that her mere strength would be enough to take him down, as if. As he snapped out towards her the mare launched out her hinds to retaliate towards his open maw with her sharp hooves. Her eyes widening as she felt his teeth rasping against her right ankle and instantly she threw herself rolling to the ground not the get her leg caught in his jaws. Better be quicker.. She noted to herself with a frown."Patient, doesn't that come with age as well? You bickering relic!" She spat back at him with a growl echoing in the depths of her throat. Her own patient was running low as she was still only getting the hang of blocking others from her mind, even so she didn't waste any time to get up on her hooves again, she wasn't going to be that easy. Snorting she kept circling the brute as she attempted to find something in the area to use to her advantage.. it was a open field, the only advantage really was space and the others fighting. Had Cain deliberant made this the..of course he had that gremlin. Prime grinned displeased with her findings until her eyes landed on the lantern! It must be rather treasured by him sense he didn't wish to fight with it. She hoped the known nature of a bachelors being possessive was as common trademark in this brute as his view on mares. Switching her direction the mare ran of to grab the firefly lantern. As the rope settled around her own neck she looked back towards the brute..This better work. She thought with a shallow gulp, it was a daring beat but she believed herself to be able to tire out the older stallion. Make use of what you got right? Prime planned to make use of his fellow brutes as obstacles for the old man to stumble into. That was if he couldn't keep up with her hasty turns. She didn't plan on mindlessly fight like some stupid brute, certainly not against such a thick wall of muscels. Who said she needed to fight like one of them in order to fight amongst them?

The mare struck out at the appaloosa stallion's jaw with her legs, nicking his upper lip with a hoof as his teeth grazed her ankle. He snorted, watching as she threw herself to the ground in an attempt to get her leg away from his massive teeth. The maneuver worked, but it left her prone and at a disadvantage. The mare spat some more insults from the ground, causing Ghost to roll his eyes. Again with the age comments? This brood was so juvenile it was almost funny. To think she was one of the Exile's elites. "I am patient when the situation calls for it." The stallion said rather matter of factly, noting how long it took the mare to get to her feet. The fact that she took the time to goad the stallion while she was down spoke volumes to Ghost's years of experience. The mare may have been quick, and graceful, but she was cocky, and seemed to be somewhat distracted.
Ghost stood, slowly turning as the mare circled him, her eyes darting about as if she were searching for something. The large stallion pawed the ground with his massive hoof, trying to bring her attention back to sparring. This was ridiculous. If all the Exiles were like this, there wasn't any use even including them in the fight. Looking up at the sky, Ghost noted that the sun was finally disappearing over the horizon. Dark clouds blocked the silvery moonlight that was making a futile attempt to reach the expanse of the fields below. It was nearly impossible for Ghost to make out the faces of those around him at this point, as everyone, aside from the mare who stood only a few feet from him, appeared to be mere shadows.
In a flash, the mare was darting towards his lantern and tossing the thick leather thongs about her neck. What was she thinking? The light illuminated her face as she stole a glance at the massive stallion. He slowly shook his head in disbelief. "I wouldn't do that if I were you..." The stallion said in a low tone. Maybe the brood would actually come to her senses before doing something incredibly stupid. Then again, maybe not. There was no tactical advantage to wearing the lantern that Ghost could see, in fact it would make the wearer a glowing beacon...an easy target, especially in this low light. On top of that, wearing glass into battle was a liability. If it shattered, the shards could easily get lodged in the wearers chest, causing much more damage than the initial attack that broke the jar in the first place. Ghost shook his head....just what was she thinking?

Prime tilted her head a little, her tail hitting against her hunches as a tiny smirk cracked over her lips. As expected he didn't favor this move at all..as well as being a little confused by it? Well it wasn't how a brute would go about it was it? But I'm no brute. Once he spoke the mare couldn't stop a short snicker from escaping her lips. Indeed it was funny and unnerving to see the old goose get ticked off by such a trivial thing as a lantern but when they had taken exile herd members it was alright? She would enjoy this more than she had originally thought possible. "You don't like to share? 'dearie' " Pouting her lips as she used his own little nickname still there was no warmth in her words. Once she had started something she saw it thru no matter how foolish or impossible others thought it to be. Still with the knowledge of whom she 'stole' the object from it made her consider to try a different approach. Nodding slowly the mare almost seemed regretful as she closed in on the stallion. "Fine unlike you brutes I am not found of taking anything from others, you may have it back..." She stated as she came up to his side lowering her head as if she was going to let the lantern down at his hooves. Only to swing it back up, her open maw dangerously close to strike into his soft belly fat. Recalling his quick snap from before she clearly learnt something from it as she backed up and rounded him with a sideway grin. "If you can keep up!"She exclaimed and attempted to whip his hind with her tail as she took off. If that wasn't enough to tick him off she didn't know what would. Her heart beats racing even faster than her hooves. This was crazy but...she was actually having fun. It was something with 'playing' with such a dangerous opponent brought her a familiar rush..one she only felt racing from the flames. Having the firefly lantern granted her a better chance not to run into the others around them, but she was aware that she would need some way to block out the light from behind so that the brute wouldn't spot the bodies as well. Her own body might be enough to block some of it..nonetheless to ensure that he would indeed stumble into someone she would have to have him being very close before she switched direction. And having that elite up her hind was not a good thing, ever! Still if she could gain what she sought with this..it would be worth it.

Ghost tilted his head, pinning his ears back as the smaller mare laughed at him. "You don't like to share? 'dearie' " Did she really think he was worried about losing something as trivial as a lantern? Ha, stupid brood. Well, she couldn't say he hadn't tried to warn her. As he watched the mare, her demeanor suddenly shifted, approaching him with what amost seemed like remorse. He took a step back, not trusting the little appaloosa as she closed in on him. She was up to something, that much was certain. "Fine unlike you brutes I am not fond of taking anything from others, you may have it back..." Ghost snorted as she lowered her head, letting the rope of the lantern slide down her neck. Maybe the mare did have half a brain after all. Just as quick as the thought came, it left. The mare swung the lantern back against her chest, attempting to take a bit out of his meaty underbelly. The old stallion wasn't about to have any of that. Quick as a flash, he brought his hind foot forward, attempting to slam it into her nose. Before he could see if any damage had been done, she was sliding around him with an obnoxious grin plastered on her face. "If you can keep up!" The mare taunted as she took off, flicking Ghost's rear with her tail.
The stallion sighed, watching as the spotted mare darted amongst the sparring horses. This was ridiculous. Here was, actually wanting to prepare for battle, and this brood just wanted to play childish games like a young foal! He had to reserve his energy for the battle tomorrow, not chasing an Exile mare all over the Summer Fields. Why couldn't she just take this exercise seriously? Ghost glanced skyward, as if to ask some higher power to just strike him down, noticing the sun had finally disappeared in it's entirely. A smirk began to grow on the stallion's face as he realized this was the moment he had been waiting for. He took off thundering after the mare, whinnying loudly as his massive hooves dug into the grassy turf beneath him, throwing up dirt clods and small stones. Yes, let her think he was giving into her childish games, let her think she had angered him. He would use it all to his advantage.

At first she thought the brute had simply given up. Perhaps she had been wrong to- All of a sudden it felt as if the ground began to quiver behind her and the mare casted her head back to see the stallion hammering away into the dirty with his hooves. A unnerving chill erupted from the base of her tail and continued to crawl up her spine. It was now at first she could even begin to understand what those mares coming from this herd must have felt like to be chased by the bachelors. However unlike them and she allowed him to gain in on her, without falter herself to let the intimidating display freeze her.Come on then gramps, let's see what you got.. As the sun had disappeared the thundering of hooves seemed to escalate around her. The first sparring couple she closed in on was an odd one, for one of the frames was not even caring enough built or height to place much attention on..Brushing lightly up to the side of the bigger of the two Prime dodged from the sparring stallions. Looking back over her withers to see if the old brute managed to do the same. It was only then in the glow from the lantern she realized why the shape was to tiny to be anything but...a foal?! No you must have been fooled, why would anyone allow a innocent foal to be brought into a blood bath? In the light from the lantern a reflection caught her eyes and the mare sought it out as her final stop. She raced in what would have been to some a reckless speed, slaloming in and out of the sparring couples. Just as light on her hooves in her turns as earlier even in this phase, there was a sly trick to her swift turns. Something not many could catch sight of normally and even less as she ran.

"Move!" Ghost hollered gruffly, barreling through the fray of sparring horses as he tailed the spotted mare closely. Snaking his neck out, he attempted to take a bite out of Prime's flank before she took of at what Ghost deemed an unwise speed. He watched as the crazy mare zig zagged amongst the sparring horses with easy. What she lacked in intelligence, she seemed to make up for in speed and agility. He followed along, slowing his pace a bit as he ran around one of the larger shadows, narrowly missing a hoof to his foreleg. This was madness. Ghost snorted loudly as a young stallion darted in front of him, charging full force into his opponent. At least some horses were taking the exercise seriously. The large appaloosa continued his pursuit of the foolish mare as he waited for the perfect moment to use the gift the witch had helped him unlock so many months ago.
The perfect opportunity struck as a large, sweaty stallion blocked his path, shielding him from the spotted mare's sight. Coming to a halt, Ghost closed his eyes, calming himself as he willed his body to disappear. The elite felt the familiar chill run down his spine as his gift took hold, making him entirely unseen to those around him, until sunrise that was. He'd become incredibly comfortable using his gift, especially over the last couple weeks. Something about using it made him feel young again...daring...alive. Smiling to himself, he trotted slowly out into the field, scanning the area for the crazy little Exile as he took the time he bought to catch his breath.

It took her some amount of restraint to stop in her crazy march thru the vicious equines. The ire in the hearts of the fellow Exiles she could understand..indeed her own heart aches for justice to be dealt to these savages as well. But it was unthinkable, was it not? That they in the progress of it would become monsters themselves... To pay with blood was one thing but to lose the morals and values of the herd- Was that really the price to pay? Was that truly to the benefit of the herd? Seeing her comrades in the field even if it was a sparring made her question this event once more. This war had already changed so much for them, for her alone it had dared her to push the codex more than once. Likewise she had grown with the challenges from it but deep down she still listened to her own guide. Even if it in this very moment was hard to hear it she felt it within her whole core, this was her path. Looking back to the field of sparring equines the spotted mare frowned as the old brute seemed to have vanished into thin air. Ah! Lowering her neck she allowed the firefly lantern to roll down before she carefully placed it in a tree close by. With that done, the mare placed herself out of sight from the offered light, in a ambush if you could call it that. Concealed in the dark with her senses on highest alert, her hooves concentrating on feeling each thundering of hooves. Now all she had to do was to wait for the brute to be drawn in by the light. Then... (285)

Still feeling slightly winded from the chase, Ghost spotted what he believed to be the light from his lantern shining through the low hanging branches of small oak. Slowly, he approached the lantern, trying not to startle the mare into doing something stupid ...again. As he drew close, he realized the mare was no where to be seen, and had placed the jar there as a trap of sorts. He smiled, nodding his head in approval as he searched the surrounding area for a place the little mare could be hiding. She was definitely more intelligent than he'd originally given her credit for. She was playing up to her strengths, and that alone impressed the large stallion. Many of the bachelor horses, though strong, didn't know how to strategically tilt the odds in their favor, but this little Exile brood did. Maybe she did truly did deserve to be one of the Exile's elites, even without the bulky muscles and years of experience. As he continued his search, he noticed a slight movement out of the corner of his eye. Ghost whinnied loudly, rearing up as he leaped forward in his charge. Even if the mare couldn't see him quite yet, she would certainly know he was there. His hooves dug into the ground, sending out shock waves as he drew closer to the mare. Focusing his energy, his massive body slowly started to come back into focus, almost as if it were fading in reverse. If was was going to fight this mare, it was at least going to be as fair and honorable as he could make it. He had played her game, now the Bachelor elite wanted to see if she'd play his. War was coming, and they all needed to be prepared to take a life if the need arose.

Something was odd..for even though she could feel the vibrations in the ground her eyes could not locate the carrier. And just how could anyone miss a equine as massive as that brute?! Prime frowned and took a reluctant step forward. The bangle at her left leg was caught in the flickering light of the lantern. A sudden whine ranging loudly over the field made each nerve in her body tense, where was he?! Prime turned her head towards the sound and it was then that her mouth opened in a astonished matter for lo and behold, out of thin air the form of the giant began to appear! What-How?! The WITCH! Her mind raced at the concept that the mare would have offered such a gift to one of the brutes..was she really insane? However the growing vibrations in the soil left her no more time to think. He was coming not only into vision but also for her, hammering away like a bullock. It was unavoidable her little trick was over and with a shake of her head the mare shifted her legs to better prepare herself for the impact with the brute. Although there was one thing that kept bothering her in the back of her mind...why had he dropped his so obvious advantage? "You must be nuts.." She muttered with a slight twitch in the corners of her mouth but as he came within her reach the exile advanced her stand looking as if she was going to meet him head on. But she didn't stay put, no, that much she had gained from his earlier charge. He might be big but he wasn't slow. However she still had an ace up her sleeve, for while she knew his.. The brute had still to acknowledge her own gift. She could see him just fine now, the frolic look on his face...did he enjoy this? Crazy old man. Feeling then catching the smell of his heavy breath the mare rose up again, with a snarl. This time with her front hooves peddling to shield as much as she could of her frame from the brute. Her brows arced down over her fiery gaze, pierced on the brute's scared face. This far she had played on the card that he would see her as a weakling but was the moment she would show him that she was not. For the herd, for her beloved one...for hope she would go against the morals rooted deep within her core not to harm another equine.
