"Hiding In The Shadows"PlotThe war is on the way and things are getting tense. Training for the Bachelors had not yet started (before objectives) but Kyanos is concerned he will not even make it through the training itself, let alone the war, with his current state. His eyesight has been fading faster and faster lately. He doesn't know if it's all of this stress that is causing it to go, or if his time has just run out, but it makes him extremely nervous. Not wanting to be left behind when this war starts, he has been going out on his own to train. He pushes himself harder and farther every day in hopes to make up for his lacking sight, but one day he pushes a little too far. The sedulous stallion has strained a leg while running and now has been slowed down greatly on his way back to the herd. Night is falling fast, and with the darkness and growing shadows come the one thing he fears the most, a complete lack of sight - and he's alone. Unable to make out anything but the light of the moon Kyanos attempts to find his way back to the herd, slow, tired, and scared. Before he can return though, he bumps into an unfamiliar face... quite literally. In This Threado1. Kyanos played by NaporieRizia o2. Illucid played by clockwork
Kyanos | Bachelor | InfantryHe'd stayed out way too long. He realized that now, though it was probably too late to figure that out. It wasn't like he'd done it on purpose, not this time anyways. Sure he'd hurt himself, but that was a complete accident. He had just been training, there was nothing wrong with that at all. Then again, there was something to be said for those who pushed themselves too far to the point of getting hurt... and that was exactly what he had done. At least this would make him stronger. That's what he told himself anyways. Injuries only made you stronger in the end, and that was exactly what he needed right now. Weakness of any sort could not be tolerated. It never could in the Bachelor herd, but especially with the war coming. War that horrid word sent involuntary shivers down his spine, causing his grey tail to twitch uncomfortably. This would be his end, he was sure of it. How could a half blind young stallion ever survive a war? Surely the herd wouldn't use their resources and energy just to defend him. They'd much rather just let him die. He knew this. After all, he lived in the Bachelor herd. As far as he saw it, even though it was called a herd, it was really every horse to himself here. You were lucky if anyone knew your name... scratch that, it was probably better they didn't. Those who did know your name probably knew it in spite or malice. This was how he'd been raised to see the herd, and this was how he was convinced it would always be. He wasn't complaining though. He needed a herd to live in where he could be at least somewhat safe from predators. It was better than living alone where he would certainly die in days. The other herds wouldn't want him, especially not now. He was stuck here, and he accepted that.
What he couldn't accept though was the fact that he was lost - alone, at night, blind... and lost. He wouldn't let himself come to accept that he had absolutely no idea where he was right now. He had tried using the faint light from the crescent moon that peeked through the clouds, but he didn't know which way to follow it. Not to mention it hid behind the clouds too often for him to use it as a true gude. He couldn't come to terms with the fact he was not only lost, he was helpless. A blind stallion with a strained leg, unable to run, in the middle of who knows where... lost... helpless. Darn it all he couldn't let this be his fate. Not ready to die tonight he picked up a painful, limping trot. His head was held high on broad shoulders made for such carriage. His one good ear pointed forward, occasionally flicking this way or that in order to keep a watch out for anything that might try and sneak up on him. His empty gaze stared stubbornly into the nothingness of the night, set toward a goal. He would get back to the herd, and nothing would stop him, not even...
Suddenly his thoughts came to an abrupt stop when he tripped over something large and sturdy on the ground. Within moments he was down, tumbling over the bulky object with a thud followed by a surprised grunt. His breath knocked out of him and all of his bearings bouncing about like a bag of spilled marbles, Kyanos quickly rolled onto his stomach, throwing his head in the air with a loud gasp of air and then froze, holding his breath as he just listened, unaware that the thing he had tripped over was a horse.

Illucid | Loner | Messenger
--•--•--•--•--•--•--•-- With night falling fast, Illucid knew it was about time to look for a place to rest. After all, he didn't just look this good and have all that energy without getting to fuel back up. Being far from an insomniac, Illucid still wasn't fond of sleep. It took away from his time. Though he couldn't be all too hypocritical as he often needed to take breaks when and if he became injured. Many a time had a good night's sleep restored him. Who's to say that he couldn't enjoy an all nighter from time to time though? The buckskin knew better than anyone else how his body worked, and like it or not, he needed some shut eye. Luckily, he didn't have a herd to follow, so he could pick any place on the island, save the area the Bachelors were in. Sometimes he wished that he could have a place more permanent, but it was just too risky. There were always guards around, and Illucid didn't stand a chance against half of them. He doubted that even Cedrik could help him in that sort of situation. To retrace a few steps, the young stallion had to find somewhere to sleep tonight. Shaking his head, jaws parting in a yawn, Illucid stumbled along. It had been, what - two nights ago when he had last been able to close his eyes for a long enough amount of time. The sleep deprivation was starting to get to him. His eyelids hung half shut, what were normally bright blue eyes now dulled in the darkness. He had to admit, he probably looked pretty pathetic, but at that point, he didn't care. Eventually he gave up looking for some place secluded and simply plopped down in the middle of a field. The grass almost came to his back, so he was sure he wouldn't be all too easy to spot.. Hopefully. Legs now tucked underneath his body, Illucid closed his eyes and allowed himself to drift off. In his sleep deprived state, Illucid had foolishly allowed his walls to come down. He hadn't checked the area at all, nor had he so much as flared a nostril to check for scents. He had simply layed down without so much as a care in the world. And there lie his mistake. He hadn't been aware of the Bachelor stallion trudging alone nearby . It was only until the stallion had fallen over him that Illucid had taken note of him (though at that point how could you not). The encounter had been quite the uncomfortable one. All Illucid could recall was feeling something painfully strike his sides and then completely topple over. Through the whole mess, he managed to come out unhurt, though he was rather confused as well as alarmed. The appaloosa flew onto all fours, eyes wide with the whites showing. His neck arched and chest puffed as he tried to make himself look bigger, just in case.
What he saw only led to further confusion. There was a stallion laying there, approximately where Illucid had just been. His eyes narrowed as he tried to get a better look at him, though who could see anything in this dim excuse for a light? It didn't take long for him to recognize the scar though, and his muscles tensed as he made to flee. Illucid hesitated. There was something about this stallion that had kept him there, rooted to the spot. He was a bachelor, sure, but not a normal one. Why hadn't he been snapped at yet?
Curious, Illucid's head tilted and he gaze at the other. "Are you alright?" he asked, deciding polite was the way to go. "That was quite a spill you took there."

Kyanos | Bachelor | Infantry ~--~~--~~--~~--~ Kyanos was too busy trying to figure out if he was safe to really think about whether or not he was actually hurt from the fall. He listened closely, trying to determine if what he had hit was a threat or not. The sound of something large scattering to their hooves made him flinch. He wasn't sure if he should attempt to cower down and beg for mercy, or stand up and face whoever he had ran over. They could be mad... he really didn't want to be beat up for such an accident. He was tense as he waited, listening. At the moment, for whatever reason, he hadn't taken the time or energy to stand up. At the moment he seemed to shocked that he'd hit something and even more that he had fallen. He'd never tripped and actually fallen before. Would this happen more often when he was left in the dark eternally? Would this some day, some day far too soon, be his life? He couldn't bear to think about that, especially not right now, he had more important matters than that.
For example, the voice that rang from the darkness told him that he'd been found out. He almost let out a sigh of relief though at the kind question from this unseen stranger. At least he hadn't angered anyone, at least he wouldn't have to try and fight in this darkness. Am I alright? The question made his mind's eye turn to his own body, examining himself to see if there was any new pain or discomfort. After a moment he came to realize that he hadn't really gotten any new injuries, but he had for sure worsened the sprain on his leg. Now that he was thinking about it the sharp pain sparked up to his hip just from shifting. Ouch. Now he would never make it to the herd. Oh right, he'd been asked a question. He should probably reply to it. "Sure." came his gruff reply, his voice sharp and crackled from missuese. He rarely ever spoke a word, and it was very easy to tell just from listening to the worn, shallow sound of his voice when he did. If that didn't tip you off, usually any further attempt to hold a conversation would give him away when his awkward social skills began to shine.
Deciding that he didn't want to be laying around here awkwardly on the ground any longer, Kyanos attempted to painfully pull himself to his hooves. That of course required quite the work from his back legs, one of which was screaming at him to hold still. Quickly plopping back down into the long grass below he pinned his ear back in irritation with himself for getting injured. "It's just a sprain." He quickly assured the... stallion right? It certainly sounded like a stallion, though he'd learned the hard way that you couldn't always determine through voice. He wasn't about to make that mistake again.

Illucid | Loner | Messenger
--•--•--•--•--•--•--•-- There was something about this stallion that bothered Illucid, but he simply couldn't put a hoof on it. Nevertheless, he watched quietly as the stranger took a few moments to check himself out. He looked a bit uncomfortable, and nothing less than upset. The buckskin wanted to help him out in any way he could - guilt rode him hard now. How dare he lay in the middle of the field in the dark? Of course someone was bound to fall on or over him, now being the best example. And if the horse ended up being injured, he'd feel much worse about it all. The voice of this stallion surprised Illucid, and it was clearly written across his face. Then again, what was he expecting? It didn't matter much now anyway. He merely gave a small nod. "That's good," he said. "I'm sorry that I was in your way. Honestly its a dumb place to sleep." Illucid's expression quickly turned to worry when Kyanos attempted to stand up. He had lied to the young loner, yet he felt nothing this time, not even a little surprise. All bachelors were always the same in the end. Even if you were nice to them. Still, Illucid couldn't just leave him here. He still felt the guilt of tripping him, and now he had an injury from it, for all he knew. Head shaking, the buckskin stepped warily closer, not wanting to make himself or the stranger uncomfortable. "Let me help you up. It's the least I can do," he offered. "My name is Illucid, by the way. What's yours?"[ sorry short post ;n; ]

Kyanos | Bachelor | Infantry Kyanos had honestly not been expecting the stallion to apologize for tripping him. He wasn't used to anyone ever saying they were sorry. It was a rare occurrence in his life. Still, it technically should have been him apologizing, not this stranger. He was the one who had so foolishly tripped over him. He should have been more careful. If he knew that he couldn't see well, he should have taken his time, moved slower, listened closer, anything and everything. He was supposed to scream at him to watch where he was going like everyone does. He was supposed to snap at him or kick him, heck even trying to kill him would have been a more expected reaction than this. But no, instead he apologized so meekly. How could he bow down to such a level as to apologize to the one who had walked right over him? Kyanos realized that such a thing took quite the internal strength and he almost admired him for it... almost. It took a lot more than saying sorry to gain Kyanos' true admiration.
Part of him would have said it was alright. Part of him would have assured him that it wasn't his fault, that he should have been paying better attention. Part of him might even have smiled - but that part of him had been squashed down over so many years of hiding behind his careless, stone-hearted mask that it could hardly get a peek out to look at the world around him. That part of him was, as far as he was concerned, long dead. Though, it did keep him from being quite so cruel as to try and snap out at this stranger. He was cold - his uprising had forced him to be so - but he wasn't heartless. He didn't say anything in reply to his apology, but in his mind, no words was better than harsh words, and kind words were too dangerous to throw about, not when you had to keep your name known as a bachelor.
He had been surprised enough by the apology, but what came next from his mouth was almost as shocking as the sudden fall had been. His ear flicked up as he turned his head to stare blankly toward him in complete shock. Had he just offered to help him? He didn't even know what to say to that. He just lay there quietly, his eyes scanning the darkness in front of him, desperately trying to see something, anything, only to give himself a dull ache in his head. His introduction helped distract him though. Blinking a few times he shook his head softly, trying to re-direct his thoughts, get them on a more prosperous track instead of letting them float around wherever the currents took them. My name? He thought to himself. For a moment he thought he had forgotten it. It was probably the shock still not worn off. "Kyanos." he finally answered softly, though his tone made it sound more like a question than a reply. He glanced back toward him, not even bothering trying to see anything this time, just letting his eyes settle on the dark shadows in the distance as if hopefully reaching for any light that hid over the horizon. Why would you help me? That was what he wanted to say, but instead he was stuck staring dumbfounded, unable to find the words that so often failed to come to him anyways.

Illucid | Loner | Messenger
--•--•--•--•--•--•--•-- The silence was a bit unnerving, but Illucid should have been used to that sort of thing by now. Being a loner, he was.. well, alone. Sure, he had his fair share of friends, but how often did he run across them? Not all that much. He spent a lot of time by himself, and even if he had belonged to some herd, he knew he'd probably be on the outskirts of that as well. Of course, this was how he had been raised, so imagining any other kind of life was difficult. By now, he knew the story of his parents, and he knew the scar on his forehead meant that he had once been a Bachelor, but that thought disgusted him now. Not that he cared much for him, he just couldn't see himself as one of those brutes pushing the mares around. Again, it all came back to his upbringing, but it was always fun to play these things out. What would have have been like, had his father accepted him? He was strong enough to survive the scarring at birth, and that had to mean something. Would he really have been like them? Illucid gave his head a shake, forcing the thoughts back out of his mind. This wasn't the right time to be day dreaming. His heart rate had already increased, and he knew it only went downhill from there. The scar on his head read Bachelor, but his pure spirit said Loner, and that was just the way he liked it.
His thoughts had finally been interrupted when he heard the stallion speak once more. He sure is a chatter box, this one, thought Illucid. The young buckskin shook his head, trying not to get annoyed with him, but to instead channel that into patience. Kyanos, he had learned, was injured, so perhaps he wasn't really in the talking type of mood. Nonetheless, the loner had just apologized for something that was only partially his fault, and a little give from the other end would have been great. He sighed. Bachelors were bachelors. Still, this one seemed to be okay by his standards. He had yet to be yelled at or be chased off for being on their territory, so he could handle a little quiet. "That's unique," he answered, gaze flicking back towards him. Should he ask the stallion why he was out here alone? It really wasn't any of his business.. he could do what he wanted to do. Then again, it was the middle of the night.. and who in their right minds traveled alone in these conditions?
Illucid's muscles immediately tensed. He had been so preoccupied with the fall that he hadn't had a chance to check if there were any others around. For all her knew, Kyanos could have been part of a patrol. And Illucid had just been dragged straight into the middle of it. The white's of his eyes flashed with the brief excitement, but he quickly realized that the idea was probably not plausible. If others were around, they would have heard the trouble and probably come looking to see what was going on. Besides, his quick scan of the area had come out ay-okay. No others around, from what he could tell. Illucid allowed himself to relax again and took a deep breath before letting his gaze flicker back over the greying stallion. What was he going to say to him? What could he say, really? Well, for now he'd help him back up onto his feet. The buckskin walked closer. "Let's get you up. Then you can tell me where you're headed, and I'll help you get there."

Kyanos | Bachelor |Infantry Kyanos couldn't help but wonder if this stallion couldn't see either, or at least not clearly in the darkness. Her certainly couldn't have seen the scar on his head, the brand that marked him as a monster to all who didn't bear it. Since the day it was given him, it had sealed his fate to be a horrid monster feared by most and hated by all. As far as he saw it, he would never have a chance at a normal life... not that the shadows gave him that chance anyways. Still, if this stallion could see the mark, why was he still here? Why hadn't he run from him before he could attack him? Why hadn't he struck him to the head while he was down and just saved them both the trouble? There were so many things someone might have done upon meeting a bachelor, but offering to help was not one of them.
Unique? His thoughts were once more drawn back to the present. He let them wonder too often. he wasn't good at this thing called socializing, even when it was forced upon him. Well, he was glad to know his name was unique. Honestly it didn't matter much to him at all. Besides, who was he to speak? This guy... Illio... no... Illucid, right, that was his name, he had a unique name just the same. He eventually told him it wasn't meant to be any sort of insult, probably not even a compliment. It was just a simple statement he decided and so he let it slide by as that, just a statement.
There was then a following silence. He blinked in a vain attempt to adjust his vision to see what sort of expression might be on the stallion's face. Had he seen something? Had he sensed danger nearby? His ear flicked about quickly checking all around, listening closely as he once more held his breath, completely still, so much so that he could hear the quickened breathing of this stranger. That was all he heard though, so why was he so suddenly aroused? An eventual deep, calming breath broke the silence and he told himself to relax. He had probably thought he'd seen something only to realize it was nothing. Whatever the cause of his reaction, it was safe now, Kyanos observed.
Quiet steps could be heard and the stranger moved closer to him. His immediate reaction was to tense and attempt to stand up, but the soft voice soon froze him once more in his place. He really was going to help him. Why? He refrained from asking such a question. Squashing down his pride which wanted to refuse help from anyone else he nodded his head in silent agreement, no words coming to him though. He couldn't refuse such help, it could be his only chance to get out of this alive. He had to accept it. As for manners though... well he knew few of them, and those he did know he hardly practiced, now not being an exception. He found no reason to say thank you, even though it might have been viewed as necessary to anyone else. Still though, he figured he should say something so he didn't seem completely closed up. "Alright."

Illucid | Loner | Messenger--•--•--•--•--•--•--•-- " You sure do like to talk, huh? " teased Illucid lightly, hoping to lighten the mood some. This other stallion looked somewhere between annoyed and miserable.. Or maybe not. The buckskin wasn't very good at reading others. He was smart, but it was pretty dark, even for his good sight. Not that he wasn't used to being out at night, it just unnerved him to be out with this stallion who was so suspiciously quiet. There; of course, wasn't any fear, but more of the annoyed streak. He wasn't in the mood to deal with ambushes or something of the type.
Illucid gave his head a shake, jumbling the thoughts around for a moment before finally pushing them far back. He really had this bad habit of getting carried away - he'd playfully go so far as to say it was a specialty. Still, he wanted to help this stallion to his feet and then get him to where he needed to be. Lowering his head, the younger stallion flicked his gaze over towards Kyanos.
" You can try to get up whenever you're ready, " he told him, not wanting to push him. He had no idea how hurt this stallion actually was, and he didn't know what his boundaries were. The last thing Illucid wanted was to pick a fight. " I'll let you lean on me for support, " he added after a moment.

Kyanos | Bachelor | Infantry Kyanos' ears... or more his ear and what was left of the tattered skin on the other side of his head, flicked back in first reaction to the stranger's - right, his name was Illucid - to Illucid's teasing words, words he didn't take as a tease at first. His lack of social skills made it very hard - if not sometimes impossible - for him to determine the difference between words of fun and those meant to hurt. Given a moment though he seemed to realize they had been meant as nothing more than a desperate attempt to break the ice between the two cold stallions in the dark of night. Kyanos though was far from in the mood to tease, not that he ever was. "I speak when necessary." He replied almost coldly, his ear perking as he cleared his throat, noticing how harsh that had sounded. He didn't want to upset this horse. As little as he truly cared for his feelings, the last thing he needed was to upset him and make him change his mind. "I suppose words aren't my specialty." He added quickly, trying to shape his crackled, poorly used voice to sound at least a tad cheerful. It didn't work, but at the least he didn't sound as cold and harsh.
When the stallion spoke once more he thought he could smell his breath. He'd lowered his head to his level, Kyanos concluded. He refrained from pinning his ear in defense. It seemed it was time for him to get onto his hooves once more. Lying here and waiting for his death seemed a much simply answer, but he knew it wasn't what he truly wanted to do. Even when his fear urged him to seek the end, his pride would never let him do such a thing. Slowly he shifted his weight onto his hip with the leg that still felt fine. His front legs sat his body upright. Pinning his ears in concentration he quickly pushed his heavy body up with a pained grunt. The moment his injured leg touched the ground he pulled it up sharply, rocking and hopping on one leg before he very slowly and carefully placed it down, being careful not to lean too much weight on it. Just a strain? He wasn't so sure about that anymore.
[Oh My Gosh!!!! I am sooooo sorry that this took so long. School kinda... stole me away. I went through and cought up on all of my rp's last week, but I forgot about the forum until today. Once again so sorry. I will be keeping up better now though, promise.]
