Roxanna stood quietly in a sort of turmoil. The kicking and squealing around her of the sparring Olde herd had her feeling on edge. Of course, she had offered to participate and had claimed this was what she wanted, but the petite mare wasn’t truly sure that she was so ready for war. The word itself was daunting and had her wanting to take a step back, turn around and run for safer lands. She thought this for a while, a pit sinking in her stomach and having her feel like she should be braver. She had to be if she wanted to make it through the battle. She needed to prove herself, and it was now or never.
Her eyes flashed as another lone horse caught her eye, gangly and big eared, he looked almost awkward enough to make Roxanna feel some confidence. She was after all, much more concerned with one’s looks than their innards. The mare had always judged a book by its cover, and this book was not going out to battle, not like that and not if she could help it. She trotted towards him delicately, each step an elegant one and looked at him with faintly innocent eyes.
“Would you… Like to spar… Mule?” She asked questioningly, half hoping, half not caring if he corrected her with his name. She didn’t really care for his name, but she knew she could use it against him later. Roxanna had a way of cooing a stallion’s name in just the right way. She was pretty, and she half hoped that might distract him. Her legs after all, were much more dainty than his.

Eoos looked over the sparring partners about him. Hearing the cries of the fighting horses wasn't going to be like the deal with the bachelors: he knew that for a fact. But all that training and he had to spar others in his own herd was something he didn't expect.
So far he had been training on his own. As far as practicing his tracking abilities and his physical shape. His sense of smell was improving. It had alerted him from grass beasts by far. And kicking against trees broke his usual stamina. The mule stallion thought he was pretty good at the moment. But finding a partner proven to be more difficult than he imagined.
It wasn't like he could just walk up to one and asked "Would you like to spar?" Like anyone got the ear motions he was making. All the other big stallions seem to be taken as it is.
However his luck changed as he heard rustling in the grass behind him. His big ears changing to the direction of the sound before his head joined in.
It was...a mare??? Coming his way. He took one long sniff of her scent from the distance. For some reason, she had a faint fruity aroma of apples and clean cut grass. The stallion lifted up his head looking down at her as she approached. Wow. She was...tiny? At least two hands lower than he was. Definitely not in his herd. She must of been an Exile. Even her coat reminded him of apples, green eye like the summer grass and a blue one like the sea.
Eoos's ears flickered straight up as she asked to spar. What? Her? She had to be kidding. But by looking around...there wasn't so much to chose from at her level. Yet, there was a chance there was more under those big eyes of hers. He learned that after meeting a mare knight. He was a sucker for mares. Especially the pretty ones. Whose he kidding. ALL OF THEM ARE!! And those flashy eyelashes weren't helping. Not one bit.
With a soft sigh he nodded in agreement. Maybe he'll hold back a bit at first with her.

Roxanna paused in front of him, holding her frame in a curious way. He didn't answer her. She looked him up and down and felt instantly that he was mocking her, ignoring that she had every right to train as the next mare or stallion in the herd. He ought to accept her wishes, the red mare thought, and yet for a good moment the big-eared-half-jack just stared with even larger eyes. She circled around so that she faced him head on, judging her possible opponents assets. To Roxanna, he didn't have any, and his quiet demeanor surely wasn't helping her to like him in the least. Rather, she was thinking less of the horse by the moment. Finally he sighed. She mirrored him, letting out a sigh of her own, filled with a sort of annoyance he hadn't even answered her with his voice.
She backed a step then, before circling him the other way. It was the petite mares way of sizing him up. She wasn't exactly the strongest horse, she didn't have her gift, her only skill here was that of distraction. She intended to use it to her fullest. If she could use it on this "pure" Olde horse, surely it would work on the more sinful of the Bachelor horses. She blinked softly at him, a smile grazing her soft lips. The battle had begun.
"Soo.. Mule..." she cooed as she circled, her eyes caressing his withers, following down to his croup, "What makes you want to fight this war? Do you want to protect your herd, or a love perhaps?" Roxanna was good with words, and while they wouldn't be the best tool on the war fields, it was helping her confidence now. Roxanna, unlike Eoos, hadn't been training on her own. Unless one counted the long trek to meet the Olde herd as such. She was weaker, but she didn't want someone to go easy on her, she wanted simply to succeed.

Eoos followed her every movement. It was expected she got slightly annoyed. How else was he suppose to respond? With the air in his throat? If only she knew. Maybe he can..oh..nevermind he can't tell her that. The mule stallion kept his eye on her as she circled him. Probably checking out his size in comparison to hers. He slightly turned about as she went behind him only throwing his head in the other direction when she came about to face him again. OH. There she goes again with the smiling thing.
His foot stomped lightly onto the grass as he made his bells chime softly to her answering her question as he nodded to her. Marking his hoof to the down making an 'X' to mark Bachelor.
What was up? First she smiled...then annoyed...then she was smiling again. Was this one bipolar or what? Weren't they suppose to be fighting now? He ought to encourage it. He stomped both of his feet making the bells ring louder. Maybe that will get the sparring going...he hoped.

He stayed silent, and the red mare barely kept her smile. She wanted to frown at him, and let him know just how upset she was. But she supposed he might be dumbfounded now, at least that's what she'd have to tell herself. Who wouldn't want to talk to a beauty like her? Roxanna sure didn't know, and was content to believe that he was just so stunned by her presence that he couldn't talk. Yes, that was it, she had muted him and her plan was working. Distract. Mind over matter. She'd find a way to get him down physically if only she could remember that principle of foolery. The way he looked at her now told the mare that she must have mastered it in some shape or form. She liked the feeling it gave her. Roxanna continued to circle.
When she finally stopped, the smile on her face had widened, a bright light in the darkening day. She glanced down at the ground for only a moment to see the X he had drawn. As she stopped, his bells rung out as a trigger for the mare. It was time to truly get things started, while the male still hand't realize Roxanna's sparring had begun long before she stopped. She leaped forward at him with finesse, her small lithe body charging forward like a panther cat. She was of course small, but it didn't mean she wasn't able. The Mule had underestimated that. In seconds she had her hooves above his withers. She brought them down- hard.
She hadn't meant to hit the grey horse with her hooves, and she sure hoped only her fetlocks had grazed his withers. The mare couldn't be sure. She dragged herself off of him to continue his circle as quickly as she had landed on him. It was an odd feeling to the mare- using her body for pain. In the past she had always been so careful to ensure pleasure. That was of course, what the Bachelor stallions had wanted in her time with them. And so the Arabian mix felt a swelling in her chest, carried with the thought that perhaps even she was some sort of powerful. It was a feeling she had never experienced before, not in this physical way. It was in the least. A good feeling.
"Did that hurt?" She cooed to the stallion, remembering her principles well, "Perhaps I should rub it to feel better before we continue?" The red mare continued her circle, ready for the silent stallion to say something in return, or at least make a move.

The mule kept his eyes on her. She looked flustered up now as she moved faster. However he wasn't fast enough for her as she charged unexpectly. She managed to hit him making his stumble to his side. His hooves dug into the earth preventing him from falling completely. He made a painful face for a bit as the hit took affect. It wasn't so bad to mortally wound him though. He shook his body like shaking off water as his body language changed from curious to fighting mode.
His footing changed to better stand up against hits as his stomped kicking up dirt. His ears folded back as he tried to look intimidating. At least that's what the only stallions been doing during training. Mare or not, he needed to go to battle for personal reasons.
She was fast. The mule stallion shook his head snuffing out a hot stream out of his nostrils. It was on. The stallion continued to move keeping his head locked on her. He waited till she got close enough before he reared up throwing back his head before thrusting his legs forward. His mouth gaped open as if he was going to yell but only hot air escaped. Her movements were swift. He got both of his forelegs on the ground missing her.
The mule snorted as he went from standing there to charging at her from behind lowering his head to buck her.

The power Roxanna had felt in the instant she hit Eoos had faded and a new emotion invaded the mare. She felt a sense that something was off with this stallion as he lunged and failed to hit her himself. He hadn't talked to her, and yet he hadn't hit her. Roxanna found herself rather confused now by the situation she was in. She was beginning to think the poor lad was dumb and she had taken advantage of him in this moment. It arose guilt within the confusion that she had found as she circled the stallion in an attempt to obscure her own thoughts. This was training for a higher purpose. All that mattered was that she made it through the war, not whether or not this stallion was dumb or intelligent. Taking advantage of was something she should have been used to already. The mix of emotions had downright flustered her, and it wasn't by magic that Roxanna felt he sensed her discomfort.
Caught up in her mind as always, Roxanna hardly noticed the second blow as it hit her. The impact was hard, and it wasn't a surprise that the mare was sent flying to the ground. Her much smaller body was no match for the stallions of the chevalin. She should have known that by now.
But the dainty half-pony wasn't ready to give up. Whatever his personal reasons for wanting to go to war were, Roxanna was convinced hers were greater. The red mare stood to her feet, knees shaking in the setting sun, he mane draped over her face. Beauty could not win this war, nor could it get her to the battle fields. The former slave didn't want to play dirty but she felt now was the time. She walked towards Eoos slowly, trying to appear as if she was ready to surrender, her tail hung like a white flag dragging on the ground.
"Wow-" She breathed, walking with her shoulder parallel to his. "You've got quite a kick there Mule, you're strong than I thought." her shoulder had reached his tail, and they were standing opposited. She pulled on his tail hairs playfully with his mouth. She hoped as far as he was concerned, this battle was over and he had won. "Why don't we sit for a bit.... rest and...." She moved quickly, teeth still hard on his tail as she wrapped it around his hocks. "...Chat!" She finished her sentence giving a hard yank on his tail. If she guessed right, the stallion would be on the ground - his tail like a trip rope- if she guessed wrong, she'd be found out and training would be back on.

The head buck forced the mare down to the ground just as he predicted. He snorted digging his hoof onto the ground now getting on edge. The mare was in for a sparring...and now got donkey sense emerging. He displayed his masculinity and so he called a threatening pose by kicking up his hind legs in the air like a donkey would.
Yet as the mare stood up, she looked like she was...tired? Maybe he hit her harder than he thought? Eoos tilted his head still huffing up steam as she approached. Oh it killed him. She fluttered those eyelashes once more. Why...Whhhhhhhy did his father taught him to be a sucker for the women.
He watched her walk along side of him till she pulled on his tail. The stallion felt the urge to buck his hind legs high as he kicked as he tripped. The stallion wasn't going down without a fight. He grabbed her tail while he fell. He didn't let go till grass was mashed onto his cheek. The stallion's legs kicked up. Burrowing the tips of his hoofs to sit up as quickly as he can.
Eoos didn't want to hurt her...but he had to go to war. His body squirmed to topple over Roxanna. Only able to get half of his weight onto her. Spitting out the tail hair, he aimed his mouth up to the back of her neck pulling harshly on her mane.
