The bay roan couldn't believe it had all come to this. In the time since the Exiles who had decided to join with the Bachelor's had settled into their camp, he'd already seen several familiar faces. Faces from a past he never imagined having to face. With a deep sigh he looked almost petulantly towards the fields where the active fighters were sparing and preparing for war. Prime would be out there right now. His face became drawn and expressionless as he gazed at no particular silhouette in the shadow dance they played against the setting sun in the distance. A light breeze played through his mane and tail, and also brought to him a recognizable scent. Turning his head towards it's source he found another familiar face, but from a much more resent history. He'd know the black coat of Stormcry anywhere, with her unique and intriguing markings, and wild wavy tail. Suddenly a thought reoccurred to him as he turned away from the work he'd been trying to distract himself in, gathering herbs, and began to walk towards her at a brisk but calm pace. The fight that had broken out just before the vote involving his mate and the prideful dark hued guard had been on the edge of his mind for days. Granted the two had never been the best of friends, and Prime wasn't exactly the easiest female to get along with for some of the more headstrong herdmate's but he'd never seen such animosity towards her as shown by Stormcry that day.
Though their friendship was still relatively new, and the only time they'd really spent together was during the crossing to the East Island, he had treasured that time with the mare whom he'd seen as very level headed and strong willed. How she managed to inspire him in his time of need was something he held dear. To see her act in such a way towards the mare whom he loved more than life itself was hard to swallow, and for whatever reason, he'd been eager to find out more about it. Surely there was more story to it than just thinking Prime was an unfit High Guard. She had never failed in her duties to the herd, and was often an empowering flame for those around her so what could Storm possibly hate so much about her that she could not even look the other mare in the eye without sneering.
As Stormcry had also joined his particular faction of the war preparations he decided he could easily use that excuse as a way to coax her into conversation, and possibly learn more about what was troubling her. After all, Prime herself had asked him not to judge poorly those that had opposed her that day, and he had every intention of giving Stormcry the benefit of the doubt.

What was she doing here? She wasn't meant to be here. She was meant to be back on Olde, loyal to majority of the herd, to use her skills to protect them in this mad war. The dark mare's head spun fuzzily with stress as she looked around at the crowds of horses, many with the gruesome 'X' carved into their faces; she had come to warn Ghost, to tell her friend to take his mate and vulnerable newborn daughter to the safest place he knew of before the war commenced... So then why had she remained? Stormcry had seen the Olde troops; adrenalized and eager for blood, and doubted that some of them would restrain their rage when faced with the easy kill of a young filly. The thought disgusted her. These were warriors with no code, no chivalry. There would be no certain 'winner' in this battle, but instead a trail of grief for both sides, she was sure.
And, yet, here she was. Protecting the mares and youngsters. Though she was betraying her duty to her herd, the thought filled her with a strange warmth. No, she would not fight this war; but she would gladly tear apart any soul who had the indecency to attack the innocent.
Her silver-eyed gaze flicked up at movement approaching her, and defensively she raised her head as she took in their appearance in a bid to recognize them. Rowan. The name made her wince, and she stood uncomfortably, uncertain of how to take his form growing ever closer. He was Prime's mate- what he saw in her besides her obvious beauty she didn't know- and she was unaware of where their friendship stood now that her hatred of the imbecilic little paint had been made public. Stormcry looked to the ground awkwardly as he approached, unsure of how to now speak to him, visibly struggling. At last, words fell from her tongue in a sigh. "Greetings." She said simply, waiting for what he had come to her for.

Stormcry's discomfort was palpable as Rowan finally found his way to her side. She avoided eye contact and gave a somewhat weak greeting. Rowan actually found himself smiling realizing she was expecting his intentions. It was the look of guilt, or perhaps more likely, nervousness at knowing you'd done something offensive regardless of original intent. In her favor, and in order to keep the mood light for a long as possible Rowan smirked and avoided the "elephant in the room".
"Good Evening Stormcry. I'm a little surprised to see you here. I'd have thought for sure you'd have gone with the others to the Olde. What changed your mind?" he asked casually as he turned to stand parallel at her side. Rowan had never been a very judgmental stallion. In fact it was a lot of his more chivalrous tendencies that had always set him so far apart from the rest of the Bachelor colts. His mother had so firmly and passionately taught him the ways of a gentleman as he grew, that he'd always found the more barbaric attitudes of the brutes hard to understand, let alone compete with. As he gazed down at them all again, he found it a miracle he wasn't more scarred, but thankfully he'd always managed to avoid fighting whenever possible. With a touch of bitterness he realized he was still doing that now here on the side lines...

As he reached her and spoke, a wave of anxious irritation surged through her scarred skin. She knew why he was here, so why did he have to beat around the bush and stretch out the inevitable conversation that neared? Did he also feel regretful of the untested friendship that they were now sure to lose?
Chewing on the inside of her cheek, Stormcry gnawed at the tender flesh for a moment nervously before she cringed at the sharp stinging pain that flashed intently at her mind. She'd burst the small sores inside her mouth again, caused by the bad habit, and her tongue writhed in her clamped-shut maw at the vile taste of the blood that trickled into her mouth from the weeping ulcers. She only dared to speak once she hoped the flow had stopped or even lessened; but, when she allowed the words to pass her lips they were disappointingly accompanied by a small stream of the crimson liquid that dribbled from the corner of her mouth in a small red ribbon. "I came to warn a friend, to tell him that he should get his family to safety before the war; his wife and his daughter. Olde will not spare them if they have the opportunity. They are too caught up in their anger to care about the sin of killing the innocent, no matter the religion." She answered heavily, sounding regretful. "But he hasn't got the time, being an Elite, and I don't know any horses here that will trust me nor do I know a suitable hiding place where they will not be trapped if they are found. So-" She broke off a moment, then continued determinedly. "So I shall protect them, and the others too. Somebody has to do it." Her tone was matter-of-fact, but it did not cover the slightest of tremors as she finished the sentence. She was betraying the herd, her position as a guard, all she had known since she was little; but what did it matter? The herd didn't care about her warning of Prime's recklessness, and the only ones who seemed to give her the light of day when she spoke out anymore were Prophet and her son- even Kanu seemed to be distancing himself from her. The horses here appreciated that she was keeping them safe, that she would shed her own blood for theirs; why was it so hard for her own herdmates to see what she was prepared to do for them? Her lip threatened to curl into a frustrated scowl as she recounted the day of the vote, before she blinked back to reality, realizing she'd simply been standing there with blood trailing down to her chin, and shuffled her feet to bring her mind back to the issue at hand.
"Listen, Rowan," The black guard continued somewhat awkwardly, flustered in comparison to how she had spoken to him when they traveled the land bridge. "Whatever you've come to say to me, just say it."

//Not sure if we can keep posting but I wanna anyways XDDD sorry I've been such an inactive butt!//
Rowan gave Stormcry a calm and oddly gentle sigh with an almost exasperated smile. Always to the point. She was certainly on edge these days. Where was that proud, confident and kind mare he'd met during the crossing? "I really only came to see how you are doing...You don't seem quite yourself. I see no point in bringing up what happened during the vote. That was none of my business. I only wish to know if you're alright. I know these weeks have been extremely stressful for all of us. As you probably recall from our chat during the journey here...just being here is something that is very hard for me to shallow, let alone the circumstances of being thrust into a war none of us asked for. All of us...every one of us is only doing what we feel is right, and just at the time. Who are we to judge others for their opinions?" he spoke in soothing tones as he gazed off towards the fighters with a tint of pain in his expression.
He turned back to Stormcry with a genuine smile though, dipping his head politely. "I am glad you came...I would have worried for you if you'd gone with the others. Call me selfish, but I've gotten to know so few in this herd...I'm a little protective over those that I have gotten close to. That's the reason I chose this path. A mare I met early on...Seeker...She's out here somewhere and I needed to know she is safe. I needed to know that we can find a way to get her, and our beloved Cael, and any others that were taken from us...back where they belong. My sister is still out here too...For me there really was no other choice." he replied with a tired sigh. He turned back to Storm and smirked.
"Were you...trying to find herbs?" he asked trying not to chuckle at the flower's laying at the mare's feet. "If so, those there would do little but cause a slight stomach ache if eatten...If...If you like, I could help you? I've always had a way with herbs and medicines...given my slightly self deprecating training habits, it was a skill I had to become versed at." he remarked gesturing down to his many burn scars littering his legs.
