Makul watched the herd from a distance as he did his best to maintain a calm composure. War was upon them. War meant blood, blood meant the death of many, and death meant the destruction of herds. A shudder rippled across his body from the thought. Still, the colt couldn't help but feel disappointed. He had wanted to fight alongside the older equines in this war. Instead, he was stuck picking up after them. The only reason he wasn't over there now, sparring with his older sisters to prepare for war, was because Vassaka himself had told Makul he should stay behind. While the leader claimed that's where he needed the colt to be, Makul was convinced that Vassaka was too much of a chicken to disagree with his entire family. The colt scoffed at the idea and glanced over at pair sparring in the distance. His expression darkened and, ripping his gaze away, he walked a little ways from them. Jealously was bubbling in the pit of his stomach and he - no, his herd - couldn't afford that. "Dumb family, dumb rules...Dumb mebeingtooyoung." He grumbled under his breath. Okay, maybe he wouldn't stand much of a chance out there. But still! "I can fight..." He muttered to himself, and lowered his head to the ground. What were these plants called again? Makul racked his brain for an answer. His mood worsened when no recollection came to mind. How could HE not remember? Ellie talked about only ALL the time, and an elder mare had showed him it before. So, he was worthless on the battlefield AND off the battle field. Great. This was ridiculous! Spinning around, he decided to walk right up to Vassaka and demand that he be placed with the other adults. He looked down at the ground as he walked, planning each word he was going to say, calculating the various responses he might receive. Not paying attention to where he was going wasn't such a great idea. Imagine the shocked look on the boy's face when he accidentally bumped into a older (and taller) stallion. He stumbled back, shocked, and looked at the foreign face. "Who in the world are you?!" The question popped out of his mouth without much thought. The colt stopped and thought for a moment, then asked the next question in a smaller voice with some hesitation, "You're a loner right? Fighting for Olde are you?" If he wasn't, then they had a problem. But what Bachelor would dare come so close to the Olde herd in times or war? Logic screamed loner, fear screamed bachelor.
