"Nothing's been the same since the fires," Delvin muttered, his mind wandering back to those wicked days. He'd seen fires on the island before, ones that sprung up during a great rainstorm, started by a lightning strike. But they never lasted long; the rain made the land too damp for the flames to spread, and then the storm would quell them completely in the downpour. It was beyond him how the most recent inferno got to the size it did, but that was a humbling time for the whole herd. You couldn't fight fire, and you could barely outrun it. The burns were just as bad. Nearly half the herd that made it out of the initial blaze was afflicted by them, and they took a long time to heal.
The bay shook his head; he'd gotten lost in thought again, and not in a good set of thoughts either. He snorted in agreement, "The brutal bachelor herd needs to bolster their numbers," he agreed dryly, "Afraid of the Unicorn-worshipers to the North. Not as mighty as they'd have everyone think, eh?" he said. You could only be so powerful for so long working the way those brutes did. There's bound to be dissension at one point or another in those ranks. Horses weren't born evil, they had to be taught it, and while the Bachelors did an efficient job at corrupting their foals, Delvin doubted every bachelor stallion agreed with their leader's ideals.

Ryder nodded. A more sober expression crossed his face. The fires that had destroyed their land had left more than ashes in its place. Everyone had been affected one way or another either emotionally or from the horrid burns that the fire had made. Ryder's mind flashed back to a memory of a small filly screaming among the flames. He had tried to save her, but a burning tree had fallen in front of him, blocking his path. Ryder had left the young foal to burn, and the memory of that haunted him to this day. It was also part of the reason he felt the need to help everyone he could. To make up for the mistake he had made.
Ryder shook out his mane, clearing his thoughts. No need to think about things he couldn't change. He chuckled at the older stallion's words. "Yeah, I suppose they have a louder neigh than a bite." He stated with a grin. The Bachelors certainly put on a tough guy persona, but Ryder knew that they were truly evil. The way they acted, behaved, everything they did was down right against nature. If there were anything to do about it, Ryder would want them stomped to the ground by Olde in a heart beat.

"Bunch of cowards," he snorted, shaking his head in utter disgust. They'd talk a horse's ear off about how proficient and mighty they were, but they'd just as quickly hide behind their mares. Or another herd's mares, he thought bitterly. "Anyway, with any luck we'll be rid of them soon. Maybe we can sneak onto the Northern Island," he added, "It's a big place, by the time the Olde found us we'd have time to recuperate a bit. Let our island recover." But Delvin decided that wasn't a very good plan either. "Bah," he grumbled, "But we'd still have to cross back over this Island to get home. And get our herdmates back..."
There just wasn't an easy answer to any of this. Delvin noticed more light was beginning to filter in through the trees, which meant they were nearing the edge of the forest. He glanced at the herb-laden scout beside him. At least he'll be able to do the herd a bit of good in the mean time.

Ryder snorted with a nod of his head. The Bachelors were certainly hypocrites when it came to how tough they were. One second they're telling everyone how big and powerful they are, and then in the next, they are running away with their tail between their legs. He shook his head in frustration. They were a bunch of two-faced monsters. "Hopefully. I don't know how much longer I'm going to be able to stand them. I think we should just take this island by force. Side with Olde long enough to take out the Bachelors, and then once our island is habitable again, we can move back there," he said around the herbs in his mouth, rambling his thoughts off. Hiding on Olde wasn't a bad idea either, but the trip back over this island to get to Southern would be dangerous.
His ears flicked forward as the sunlight became stronger through the canopy. It wouldn't be much longer before they were back at the herd, and then Ryder would get busy distributing these herbs to the horses who needed them the most. Some of the Exiles were definitely in worse shape than others, but they all needed food and water to make themselves healthy once more. This island was good for one thing he supposed. The area was full of resources for the herd even if the Bachelors only let them have a certain amount at a great price.

"You're not kiddin'," the bay stallion grumbled. They hadn't even been here a week and Delvin was already sick of sharing an island with those brutes. He nodded at Ryder's plan; it was a good one, as long as the rest of the herd would agree to it. "I don't think anyone would miss that herd," he seethed. It would be better for everyone if they weren't here to control the island like their own personal hunting grounds and prison. But, easier said than done. They'd have to make sure Olde was even on board for this before the Exiles could really do anything. It was a fact that the Olde were looking for war with the Bachelors, and vice versa, but it all came down to if they would trade shelter to the Exiles in exchange for more numbers on their side of the battle.
Delvin shook his head as the two stallions came out of the woods and back onto the grassy plains. The breeze sent waves through the long green blades, making it look more like water than land. It would be a lovely island if it weren't inhabited by such animals. And he wasn't talking about the Grass Beasts.

Ryder nodded, watching as the trees grew more and more sparse."Probably not." He said with a snort. Their island might have been beautiful, but it was hard to enjoy it with such a nasty group of brutes controlling it. There was plenty to go around, and the Bachelors refused to even acknowledge the fact that they could easily share this island until Southern was habitable again. They would hardly see each other if they agreed to split it for awhile. The Bachelors would never agree to that though. They were much to power hungry to just hand over part of their island.
As the breeze blew through the tall grass, Ryder let the wind blow through his mane. It was certainly nice even with the looming thoughts of war and death. The herbs in Ryder's mouth would be put to good use once they reached the herd. "Thanks for coming with me. It was nice talking with you, Delvin." Ryder said with a dip of his head toward the older stallion. It was nice to know that there would be someone in the herd that he could go to for advice or just a decent discussion. Most of the horses in the herd still acted like he was an outsider which he didn't blame them for since he had only joined the herd after the fire, but at least now, he could add one more horse to his list of people he trusted.

"Mhmph," the stallion grunted, giving the other paint a short nod. The old cob wasn't about to admit it, but he liked the scout. He had a good head with sensible thoughts, and seemed to know what he was doing for the most part. He obviously cared quite a bit for the herd, but that went without saying. Those herbs were the whole reason they were rooting around out here in the first place. He turned his gaze onto the brown stallion. They were within sight of the herd, but Delvin didn't intend to follow Ryder back into the middle of it. Instead, he stopped near the outskirts, giving the paint one last nod, "I'll be seein' you around," he promised. ((Woo we actually finished an rp ))
